Hi,
I recently rooted and installed Cyanogenmod 13 on my S5 however I've been having issues with the battery. I lose around 20% on idle in an hour. Under clocked my CPU to about min 900 and max 1000MHz and its gotten better, however, still got battery and a little bit of over hearing issues. (gets a little warm on idle which shouldn't at all)
I'd heard its the NFC that's causing these issues so wanted to delete that but I'm unable to mount the system as read and write and I've tried with many programs and the terminal.
Any suggestions? Thanks

I have previously set root access for both apps and ADB. However, still cant mount the system as rw.
What are you trying to set it R/W with?
Just use ES File Explorer, enable Root access in the tools left side menu, and edit whichever system file you want

I tried ADB, root explorer, Solid Explorer, Mount /System RO/RW, etc ... and even as you mentioned ES file explorer, however so far none has worked :/
With ES file explorer when I try to mount as RW, it fails to do so for only two folders in the device. both /system and /firmware-modem which I find odd and yes I have enabled root and granted permission.
Any other suggestions? Thanks
System is already RW with ES File Explorer if you have granted Root permissions to it
What are you trying to do?

So basically I'm trying to delete system/app/NfcNci folder. I have attached a photo on how my es file explorer looks for mounting rw and ro. I can mount anything to rw except for the 2 that are ro and remain ro even after setting them to be rw. I have granted root through superSU and the developer options
Thanks
I wonder if it's because you've flashed SuperSU, when CM13 doesn't need it, maybe it's conflicting with the developer options root toggle
When I flashed CM13, I didn't flash SuperSU, I just went straight to developer options, and enabled root for all apps
What happens if you just go ahead and try to delete that file/folder with ES File Explorer (After enabling root in ES left side panel) ?

Yea unfortunately I didn't know cm13 had such option only after flashing with SuperSU
When I do so it just say the file is read only and doesn't delete.
I'm updating cm13 atm. If that doesn't get me anywhere I might full unroot through SuperSU then root with cm13.

I'd just wipe SYSTEM & CACHES from TWRP - flash the latest version of CM13, root from Dev options, and see how you get on there
By doing that, you don't touch your data, installed apps, or anything else, they are on separate partitions - so they'll still be there when you boot back up
So I couldn't just delete caches and system. Because after doing so and flashing CM13 it wouldn't boot up and I tried multiple versions so I ended up wiping everything except for SD data and then installed the latest version. Then rooted through CM13 itself and then was able to give system RW permissions. So all is good now including the battery life. Thank you for your help Detection
Good stuff
Most Samsung users reported that V4A is not working after upgrading to lollipop cause of the unswitchable SELinux, switching SELinux mode compromises the security of the device, so here is the solution without flashing custom kernel:
Note:
*This method should be used with Systemless SU(not magisk) installed*
Con's:
Not working with some music apps with built in equalizers
Steps:
1. Assuming that you have installed systemless root, but still check if /su/bin/supolicy exists...* WORKING IS NOT GUARANTEED ON OTHER SYSTEMLESS METHODS eg. Magisk*
2. Download the latest build of V4A in this thread: https://www.google.com.ph/url?sa=t&...uRG6XJ1DsKgOZngeg&sig2=O8sZ4LawAMMb_9I4inOJ-Q
3. Install the apk as a system app and reboot, after open Root Explorer and create su.d folder in /system partition , set permissions rwxr-xr-x
4. Create 50viper.sh inside the folder and edit and paste:
#! /system/bin/sh
/su/bin/supolicy --live "allow mediaserver mediaserver_tmpfs:file { read write execute };"
5. Save and set permissions rwxr-xr-x
6. Now launch V4A and grant permissions and install drivers.
7. After finished installing of drivers, reboot
8. Disable and clear data of SoundAlive in settings and reboot
Tested with my device: SM - T235(Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 LTE)

The option to turn off the shutter sound has been removed by Motorola in the Marshmallow update, at least for the Indian market. ( I don't know if they had added this feature in the future updates but 6.0 doesn't have that option)
The only way to remove/disable the camera shutter sound is to remove the camera_click.ogg from the system for which you need a Rooted device.
* Grant root access to ES File Explorer, navigate to /system/media/audio/ui/ & rename camera_click.ogg to camera_click.bak
Reboot the device.:good:
I had a problem writing to external storage (Micro SD card) on madOS (android 7.1.2)
After an install I just could not write to the SD card , even after root ...
And this is a problem that affects android from marshmallow onwards (android 5.1 and later)
So here is how I solved the problem...
1) I downloaded on my computer and then transfered to the SD card the following files:
1-- a recovery image of madOS (android 7.1.2) I got from here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=16842#downloads
2-- the pico package of opengapps from here
http://opengapps.org/
(choose your platform , your android version and the pico variant)
3-- magisk manager (an apk ) and the magisk zip from
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
magisk roots like SuperSU , but its the new form of root called systemless root and to pokemo go , safetyNet etc , it appears like your phone is not root and you can use them - but you can do much more with it than the other root applications !!
2) I inserted the SD card into the phone (a jiayu s3 ) and booted into recovery (by pressing the vol up + power button untill the phone switches on and then releasing the power button but keep holding the vol up
I already have twrp 3.1.1-0 installed (madOS requires its own version of twrp otherwise you can't install it. You can download their twrp from here - scroll down on the page to find the link https://forum.xda-developers.com/jiayu-s3/development/rom-unofficial-aosp-n-jiayu-s3-t3451923 )
3) I wiped everything except system and external storage (I wanted a clean install !!)
4) I installed madOS
5) Without doing a wipe I intalled opengapps then wiped cache and delvicahe and rebooted into system
6) I did a few settings on the phone then shutdown the phone and booted into recovery again
7) I installed magisk zip file , wiped cache and delvic cache , and rebooted into the system
8) Now I was rooted (by magisk) - a systemless root , which means there is nothing writen to /system and so it looks like the phone is not rooted to applications that check root !!
9) I installed magisk manager apk , loaded the app , saw that I was properly rooted (be connected to the internet), clicked the downloads button , and clicked to install "App Systemizer". After the install you get a "AppSystemizer" app
I then installed the apps I want from google play store
What App Systemizer does is make a user installed app behave like it was a system app.
SYSTEM APPS CAN WRITE TO EXTERNAL STORAGE SD CARD !!! because they are trusted by the system !!
So I opened AppSystemizer and choose ES file explorer to make it a system app ( when you save you have to reboot phone) , and after that I can use ES file explorer on SD card without problems !!
I did the same to some other applications that I wanted to be able to write to the SD card ...
AND THE GOOD THING IS YOU DONT HAVE TO GRANT ROOT TO ANY APPLICATION !!!
I was always afraid to grant root to ES file explorer because while its the best or one of the best file managers , it has many ads , requires too many permissions when it installs , writes some files to /system when you give it root and I beleive its a chineese spy software .
So now I can now use ES file explorer as I want and without root and so without fear !!!
10) Another good app to install is adaway - it stops all those adds from applications , including ES file explorer
https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/org.adaway
After this you will have a smooth android experience
I beleive this is applicable to any marshmallow and Nougat rom (stock or custom)
Hi
I've rooted via the magisk method and root is working fine. I am able to mount system as rw but none of my changes to system files are sticking after a reboot. Am I missing something?
