I prefer these headphones much more than my old Apple ones. They buttons work fine without an extra app but the mic doesn't seem to work. Can't tell if it's a software issue or a hardware one.
Anyone else have some insight on this issue?
Try using different headsets with mic to make sure it's not your phone, then use the same headset with different phones to make sure it's not your headset, and use same headset same phone with different softwares to see. Then use same headset same phone same software but different audio file. Sounds complicated, but it's easier done.
I did some tests and indeed the mic is broken on the headset and has nothing to do with the phone. Thank you for the feed back!

You can leave your device in the pocket and accept or quit phonecalls.
You can set the volume of the incoming call to lowest with the slider left to the navi-stick, then other people do not hear your calls if you are 2-3 meters away.
I'd like to know a wired headset which shows the caller-ID in the microphone case, like the old sony walkman with the display on the wire, showing actual song and volume. The 3.5 jack will not support this, i know.
yeah you can just leave any 3.5mm headphones pluggged in, as long as they are plugged in before the phone comes in you can use the inbuit microphone.
The device still rings, so you just put the buds in your ears and answer.

I'd like a decent replacement corded set, don't like the sound quality from BT ones I've tried.
Had a USB one from gpsforless that you can plug your own headphones in just past the mic, but it wasn't well built and lasted about 3 weeks.

It works great with the Athena, there are a bunch of different types on ebay, just search for "Tytn Adapter" and you will find a bunch.
Pretty much any HTC Extended USB based adapter will work with the Athena.

i i can't send my voice through microphone headset,
my friend can't hear my voice wwhen made phone call,
that problem came after reflashed from original wm5 to wm6,
i tried 3 different wm6 but still in microphone headset problem,
have any ide ? thanks

I don't have such a problem with the original wired headset. The sound is excellent in both WM5 and WM6.
My wired headphones died pretty quickly, so now I use a pair of sennseisher buds, the microphone on the athena works when using standard earbuds, so although not hands free, it is at least a bit more private.

It gives you both 2.5mm and 3.5mm output so you can have your headphones in one plug and the headset in the other.
They have another adapter that goes from the USB for the same purpose but I don't have that one.

i have changed my original earbud with Senheiser mx500, same as you, died quickly, then again changed to original N6233 earbud, great sound for music
but maybe causing malfunction the microphone ?

somehow I can't get my BT Headset get to work with the FM Radio.
Only the regular headset (needed as antenna) produces sound..
Any suggestions?

Maybe im wrong, but i think you have already nailed this one the clue being the antenna bit.
I was asking myself the same question. I imagined two solutions :
1) Take an old headset, cut wire 20 cm maybe from the connector to have an antenna (sort of). But I wonder if there is no side effect (infinite impedance headset supported ?)
2) Maybe there exists special FM antenna who plugs in an headset plug ? I have searched such device, but not found.
But there is, with both solution, a potential problem : if HD detects an headsed (even a false one), maybe sound will not be routed to BT...
But I'll try the first solution one day or other
When using bt headphones, I plug a dummy stereo jack to disable the speakers. So, if the bt is disconnected, music will not go through the device speakers.
When doing so, I noticed that radio works quite well. However the sound is not routed to bt headphones so from the menu the only option is to play through the device speakers. Reception is ok with nothing but a stereo jack, but this doesnt solve the issue of routing sound to bt headphones.

The attached app is for re-routing audio to a paired BT headset. I've never tried it as i don't have a BT Headset
You'll still need to attach an antenna of some sort (e.g. a normal set of HTC headphones with the ear buds cut off so it look's sort of made for the task)

it's muting the regular output but still no output to the BT headset.
Actually, regular playback is also not working to BT when I use this programm..

I recently had purchased an adapter for my Fuze in order to use a headset for listening to music as well as asnwering/making calls. The headset is an over-the-ear headset (not bluetooth earpiece) and it has a mic on it. But unfortunately, when I used it with the adapter, the mic does not work.
It works with the adapter that came with the Fuze, but that one is a bit too bulky. Anyone know of one that works with the mic on a headset?

Is that the only one? I rather have one that is just an adapter and nothing extra. That one looks pretty nice since it has volume control on it, if I can find another like it. I have a microphone on the headset, so a regular adapter would be fine a well.

I know that software can choose between speaker and headset even when the headset is plugged in (since the FM radio can do that). But is it possible to force audio out of both the headset and the phone speaker? I ask because I have an audio docking that I'm going to use in the car, and if this is impossible, I'll have to put up an extra speaker and amp for when I listen to the radio but want TomTom to warn mea bout those pesky speed cameras... So is it possible with a sneaky trick to choose both headset and speaker?
That can only be done over at the kernel's and the framework's side. The best bet is to customize the kernel. Detection of the headset plugging/unplugging is done by kernel’s switch driver and the event is sent to 'HeadsetObserver.java' which broadcasts the intent 'Intent.ACTION_HEADSET_PLUG' with information about state as plugged/unplugged. This is received by 'PhoneApps.java' and the audiomanagerr is informed to turn on/off the speaker which further passes the information to Libaudio.so (AudioHardware.cpp). These information is passed to the kernel to switch between the speakerphone and Headset. This might differ with Android 2.3, but forcing the kernel to play sound to both the headset and the speaker might be the only way. The first few actions are done by the framework itself. You can try or suggest this feature to the CM team. I know this is not what you want, but for the time being, you can perhaps use a dual audio jack splitter and connect your headset and a speaker. Alternatively, there a few apps in the market which enables live streaming on your PC over Wi-Fi. You can try streaming the media so that the audi is played by the PC and the connected speakers. At the same time, you can plug in your headset. This should work, but no guarantees...hope this helps, and i have to say that it will be an awesome feature if the devs can find a way to cook this feature into a stable android build!
Android? Yuck! Good on tablets, totally hopeless on phones! Was going to use my brother's Desire for on day, begged him to give me back something that actually worked efficiently after two hours! No, I'm talking about good old Windows Mobile 6.5 here. Didn't really think I'd have to specify that in a thread about general HD2...

however, you can get audio through both headphones and external speakers using a special jack. it has a male part on one side and two female parts on the other.
of course. I've used the jack splitter on several things (I do a lot of work with custom installation of computers as whole house media servers). But I have found sort of a solution: Start the HD2's FM radio, switch that to playback through the speaker (which is why I know this not only might be possible, but is possible with software, since the FM radio can play through the speaker even with a 3.5 mm jack plugged in) and mute the radio. Then all sound will come through the speaker. Kind of a pain in the ass to do it that way. I have found a Mort script that does it, with a few modifications, but I haven't had the time to check that out yet.

So I can use other headsets without issue so the headset jack is fine. But the headphones that came with it don't work. Am I just out of luck or will samsung replace them? If so, is it worth the trouble?
