In the Messages app, under Notification settings, I have "Play notification sound" unchecked, but when I receive a text message, it will still make the Notification sound. The only way to prevent the sound is to set the "Notification sound" to silent or unchecking "Received notification" which disables showing the notification in the status bar. I have tried basically everything (i.e. restarts, hard reset, checking and unchecking), except for a factory reset. Is anybody else having this issue or any ideas?
FYI, I've confirmed this is a firmware issue and hopefully will be fixed in a future update. So anybody who has this phone should be experiencing the same issue.

My Magician has mysteriously stopped notifying me when I get text messages! The notification is enabled in the Sounds & Notifications settings panel, but still I get nothing!
Anyone got a clue how to solve this?

My notifications settings are unchecked for Text messages, and yet I still receive notifications for them. In fact all "display notifications" are unchecked. How do I fix this?
Also, the text message notification window is so small that I can't see anything. Any fix for this as well?
I'm using ChompSMS on my Sprint EVO and love it, but after I answer my text message, the notification stays in the task bar until I pull down the task/notification bar and "clear it". I'm running froyo and when in my standard factory messages app, press "menu" but there's no "settings." When using my standard factory message app, after I view and/or answer a message, the notification in the task bar goes away. But with ChompSMS, it doesn't, thus requiring me to remove it manually (I'm also running call notification so it beeps at me every two minutes until I clear it manually). Any way to stop messages from appearing in the notification bar? Or is that mandatory for my "call notification" to work? Any way to make chompsms clear the notification after viewing and/or answering the text?
Go to the stock message app and uncheck received notification. Use chomp settings for your notifications.
In the Phone app, I go to Settings/Calls/Voicemail and uncheck vibration and select a different sound... the settings seem to stick, but the notification always vibrates and plays the default notification sound.
I have added 'storage' to the Phone apps permissions. Anyone else seeing this?
After updating to Nougat, I can no longer disable message previews now with out disabling all vibration and sound.... WTF?? Of course Samsung removed the System UI Timer access too so that option is out. Anyone figure out how to hide message previews? It's annoying as hell when you're trying to show someone your phone and all your messages are hitting them right in the face.
Solution is here.

messages setting and then notification to disable message preview
Yes, but you missed the "without disabling all vibration and sound" part.
