I don't use AOD, don't need it. However, I could see why it's only for radio-based notifications. It makes sense for AOD to only register for radio-based events (which are always awake anyway) and not listen to other app-based notifications as it may require additional wakes, etc. It's an unproven theory, I'd admit.

Since April update aod clock is stationary on screen, not moving around anymore. Factory reset didn't help, neither the last two app updates.

Battery life After Samsung Push Service app update

So I read that updating the push notification app in the Samsung app store is supposed to improve the battery performance of the S6 and Edge. I am glad to report, at least from my experience it has DRASTICALLY improved battery performance!!! I took my phone off the charger at 3pm EST time today at 100%. I have been using my device quite moderately(Edge) all day long and as of right now 11:32pm EST my device sits at 71% battery left. This is quite amazing! Not even half way through my battery and its almost midnight. Have not charged once! EXCELLENT job sammy! I suggest everyone go and update the Samsung Push Notification service app ASAP
i actually disabled it, not sure what thats going to do to my phone but well see

I'm at about 1.3 - 2% an hour right now. Not using it heavily but not letting it sit straight through. Going to let it sit tonight and see what the drain is at.
GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi, Gmail Sync, and weather all on.

It's a push service for Samsung apps like s-planner, chat-on etc. I don't use any of Samsung apps so have disable it.
My phone was on 100% before I want to sleep, woke up 7 hours later and it was showing 97%. This was with WiFi off and mobile data and sync on.
I got an update this morning (around 240MB, not sure if same as OP) mentioning photo editor improvements and some other things but I'm finding that my battery life has improved quite a bit. Not sure what Samsung have done but so far I've been 12hrs 40m on battery with wifi, mobile data, NFC, BT, location, sync all on, and screen on (auto-brightness/100%) for 3hrs and still have 45% battery left. Bloody fantastic! Was struggling to get that kind of performance from my G2!

Yeah, I noticed my battery is much better as well from that update. That's good to know we don't have to wait for a carrier approved software update to get help on this.

No difference here. Biggest change I've seen is disabling VoLTE.

op2 owners: any regrets?

If coming from op1 or any other flagship device?
SO far, none. The OPO was the best phone I ever owned. I just got the OPT and after 24 hours it has amazed me. Some glitches here and there but nothing a software OTA cannot fix.
None. Certainly not with all the development going on here already. I'll enjoy the heck out of my phone.
My gripes since I had to buy on swappa.com, as I ordered on 9/1 and still don't have the actual phone.
1) Exchange only through Gmail. Poor implementation.
2) Can't see battery as percentage. Prefer time in middle on top.
3) slider notification should be reversed
4) no stock Gallery app (only accessible through photo app)
The phone is beautiful but let's be honest here, it is a buggy mess!

Well to be honest, point 1 & 2 are the same for stock Android. What do you mean with 3 exactly?
And actually, you can change the battery as percentage. Head to Settings > Battery and tap the battery icon next to the menu icon. It gives you inter alia an option to show percentage.
#3 would be the physical notifications slider on the left.
Thanks for the battery percentage heads up.

In my opinion the placement is perfect, also for the other buttons. That's personal preference of course. You're welcome by the way.
My stock messaging app doesn't consolidate my conversations properly. It creates to separate threads for one conversation, it shows one thread for what I text and a separate thread for my friend's responses??? Does anyone know how to fix this so the "back and forth" is in one thread?
Currently the OPT has a big failure that may force me to sell it. My contacts are only synced with 'mobile' to my car radio. So I am forced to choose of 6 'mobile' numbers from a list of only ONE mobile number of my wife. Not really a big bug but a total fail for me because I daily call my wife from the car while driving home. This is the one feature that really has to work but it does not.
With the ONE all works as you could expect. The Parrot Asterroid syncs without a fail and offers me the numbers correctly tagged with 'mobile', 'work', 'home' and so on. The TWO fails on this. So not really my phone atm.
no regrets. just little bugs that need to be addressed. fingerprint scanner works perfect for me also
Guys, there's no benefit to lying. The fingerprint sensor is not 100% and sometimes doesn't even respond.

I agree. I've reset my fingerprints to the way I hold the phone usually. It's still hit or miss. If i've just been using the phone, it works. If I leave the phone to sit for some time, i need to use the power button to wake it, then the sensor works.

Mine works fine as long as I don't wake the device before scanning, if I do it doesn't respond for some reason lol. Software issue though, I'm sure they'll fix it soon.

For e, battery is a big disappointment so far. I hope with custom ROMs and kernels battery life should improve. Other than that, pretty much satisfied. However, does not feel like much of an upgrade over the one.
Battery is a big one for me as well, but I know future releases will solve that. The other thing would be heat. In 10mins of having the screen on, it jumps from ~26 degrees (where it idles) to ~40 degrees.
I'm surprised about the battery complaints. It's been really good for me. I can easily get 5-6 hours sot. Today I'm at 1hr 18mins sot with 78% battery left and exactly 14 hours since I unplugged it from the charger. Maybe I'm just lucky

I'm coming from a nexus 6 and you can really tell the difference between the screens the op2 looks washed out compared to the QHD screen on the nexus but apart from that I love it but I will still go for a moto x style.

very happy with it. Fingerprint scanner works 100% for me, much better than the crappy one of my previous s6 edge.
Only complaint is contact sharing with my car bluetooth makes the car system crashes......

Do you use ambient display?

So guys, was wondering if you use ambient display and if you do have you done tests for the difference in battery life?
I use it, the amount of battery that it uses is negligible.
Never works for me. Always turns on in the dark when laid on table idle. Never bothered to look into fixing because it's not a necessity for me.
Don't use or require for my usage...
I have it switched on, but it really doesn't matter, once I pick the phone up, I switch it on.
It drains a lot
Does it? How much?

No it really doesn't.
I use it. Battery drain is very low. Anyway I wish it was more accurate. The screen turn on every time I put it on the table and sometimes when I take it, it should be the opposed.
I feel with native notification light, ambient display is kinda redundant.

Hmm interesting I've been going on a little bit of a wake lock crackdown lately and ambient display adds another wake lock....... Didn't know if it would destroy battery....... Haha

In my usage in a 12 hour period, my phone is only awake for less than half an hour when I'm not actually using it.
I don't. I find it annoying personally. I like setting the brightness manually via the drop down menu to exactly where I want it when I need to.

Nope. I found it comes on way too often, whether I pick the phone up or not. I use double tap to wake, so I just double tap the screen when I need it on

LOL yes.....thank you H!
I do use ambient display. I find it a very simple yet extremely convenient feature.
I would if it worked properly. It's just so inconsistent. Sometimes I pick it up and nothing. Other times it works. Just very inconsistent.

100% agree. It would be a great feature, if it actually worked as intended. But since it's so inconsistent it's more of just an annoying gimmick. I turn Ambient Display off first thing whenever I flash a new ROM.
It's a shame to see that Ambient Display isn't working for some people, it works perfectly for me, every time. I receive a notification, it triggers. I pick my phone up into an upright position, it triggers.

Only get ~2 hours of on screen time - "Android System" battery drain

I am on the latest 7.0 beta, T-Mobile version, I am getting pretty frustrated. I only get ~2 hours of on screen time. Right now at 30% and Android System has used 1350 mAh and CPU total is close to 5 hours.
Attached some pictures from yesterday and basically the same exact thing - maybe one of the packages listed is killing the battery?
I know there are a lot of posts about this issue but nothing that I've found useful unfortunatlely.
Did you try a factory reset? That help me get good battery life.

Been thinking about doing that, but not sure why it got really bad all of a sudden. I could get 3 to 4 hours before.
I think I'll wait until the official release is out and then do a reset - hopefully it comes out soon.

I am getting pretty fed up. Thought the new updates would make it better but no go for me.
If only you got root, I strongly recommend using Myandroidtools/disable service. Samsung roms sucks pretty bad, I have never ever experienced something like battery drain on other phones. Since I disabled 80+ Google Services and some samsung bloat, android system takes about 2-4% drain after a whole day. I am using Renovate on nougat.
Looks like a lot of you are very unlucky. My battery life is superb! At the end of the day I still have ~35% battery remaining. I recharge every night regardless of how much battery I have left, so it does me just fine

I would strongly advise to stay away from any of those 'fancy' package disablers.
They do no good and often deteriate things. I have on average over 8hours SOT and never used disablers.
Most Samsung apps don't put any drain on the battery. It's things like Facebook etc that hog resources.
Yeah, if only i got Facebook apps installed. I have fully working locations, notifications and other stuff - most of services I disabled are feedbacks, silent loggers and stuff I dont need or use. Only corrupted app is Gmail - which I don't use.
I got sync switched on, lots of calls, auto brightness, voice assistant and usually get 5 hours SOT during my usage which isn't bad at all.
So not sure what did it, but I installed Greenify and also changed from 1080p to 1440p and I get about 3ish hours on screen time. Still terrible but will do for now.
My phone also feels faster after changing resolution back to 1440p. So weird.

I remember Samsung saying it only consumes a couple a percentage points.
This article tested and it's nowhere near 40%. And I use the phone about 15 hours before it gets charged again so it should have a huge impact.

I really don't think you're right as that's not my experience either. I cited the article because usually the tech websites have some experience - my anecdotal data, or yours, doesn't carry much weight.
As posted before, my screen time has increased and keeps going up. Got near 4 hours of on screen time today. Greenify must have killed a process that was putting the CPU on overdrive and which showed up under Android System. I shouldn't have to take the time to find fixes however since Samsung and the Doze feature should be doing this already.
I appreciate your advice, no need to get upset we're just having a discussion...

I don't really see a discussion in the fact that AOD uses a lot of battery if you keep it on all day, it's pretty much guaranteed that AOD is the main culprit. And your own experience with your phone and its settings is worth a lot more than the experiences from some tech website. Everyone's phone/settings is different.
