T-Mobile carrier aggregation problem - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having a problem with my 6p using CA - carrier aggregation. Both bands 4 and 12 are available and my phone is only using 12. I flashed an older radio that does not have band 12 and band 4 is very fast data speeds. If I flash the newest radio in the very same location my phone only uses band 12 and I see that band 4 is available using Lte discovery but I get very slow data speeds. My phone is not combining both 4 and 12. Does anyone know a fix and have you ever had this happen to you? I've even flashed factory image with no luck. Thanks

It happens to me all the time at work, it's very frustrating. Usually between 7-9am I'm on band 4 with download speeds between 40-50Mb, and after that it seems to switch to band 12 and stays there all day with downloads speed of between 0.22-1.0Mb down...it's ridiculous
I also notice that it can happen when I reboot. If I come to work connected to band 4 and then I reboot I will reconnect to band 12 and never connect to band 4 again until I leave my work area. I don't know if it's a T-Mobile issue or a software issue...It seems more like a software issue, but who knows.

It seems to be software issue because if I flash a radio for 6p that doesn't have band 12 enabled then I will connect to band 4 and have very fast data speeds. ( LTE)

It might be done intentionally by t-mobile. My fiancee's S7 Edge does the same thing.
I flashed an old modem as well to get faster speeds always connected to band 4.

I think it is because band 12 is the lower dBm signal which is stronger. I've asked for a dev to make twrp recovery flashable radio zips and no one ever did. It sure make it easier to flash radios on the fly. If I knew how I'd make one

[Q] Nexus 7 3G HSPA+ 32GB

Hi there,
I bought online the 32gb version of Nexus 7 with 3g capability.
Actually I'm leaving in Australia using it with a Vodafone prepaid microsim with data bundle and the navigation is not fast like in mine galaxy nexus i9250. First of all during the internet navigation I noticed Nexus 7 switch between 3g and H always so i checked with network widget if there are differences in connection speed with Galaxy Nexus that is working with Vodafone as well.
I discovered unfortunately my nexus 7 is always in HSPA with a speed of 700-1700kbps and my Galaxy Nexus works in HSDPA o HASPAP with a speed of 1.4 Mbit - 14Mbit or 10Mbit - 20Mbit in the second case.
So is it possible to force the Nexus 7 to operate at higer speed ?
Thank you in advanced

I have exactly the same problem. On my galaxy nexus i get hsdpa and hspa+ depending network load. With the nexus 7 3g I only get hspa. I tested with two providers and both gave the same results.
Anyone have any ideas how we can get the nexus to use hspa+?
Running 4.2.2 with 1231_0.17.0_1205
When you make this comparison, are you using the same SIM in both devices? Same APN?

Exactly same thing here!
Navigation speeds seems ok, but downloads are slower than my smartphone on the same network.
According to my carrier, my 3G (HSPA, HSDPA, HSPA+) signal is located on 2100Mhz Frequecy...

I dont know if this is possible, bit I'm thiking that the tablet only works HSPA+ on 1700MHz or 1900MHz.
Because these frequencies are the most used in USA for 3G connection.
Can someone comfirm this?

Mine gets HSPA+ on 850 MHz from Bell Canada, but apparently only regular HSPA on Wind Canada's AWS band network.

That's interesting...
But you are really sure that in your region Bell uses 850MHz for HSPA+? Because they use the 1900MHz too...
Just asking...
Is there a way to email Google about this? Maybe a Software correction can fix this, because the frequency is supported, and maybe some upgrade on baseband (modem settings) can enable HSPA+ on other frequencies, like 2100MHz...
Regards!
I have a phone that can select bands between 850, 1900 and usually when I check, the default band it's connecting to is 850. I could cross reference when I have a moment to try it out.

How I wish have that speeds on my devices...
In my smartphone with HSPA+, I got 5Mbps/1,2Mbps
On the Nexus 7 (regular HSPA) 2Mbps/1mbps
Unfortunately, the only device I own which is capable of selecting individual radio bands is not cooperating anymore with the SIM card that I use in my tablet. So I wouldn't be able to tell you whether it's running on 850 or 1900. Also, I could have sworn that in the past I have seen the tablet report HSPA+, but at the moment it is consistently reporting only HSPA. Nonetheless, I am still getting exemplary speeds.

hi guys
reviving this thread as i have just noticed my N7 2012 only showing HSPA not HSPA + but my moto g using the same sim & apn shows HSPA+, i am in singapore if that helps

Why aren't I getting LTE?

According to this map http://ltemap.org/tmobile there are LTE towers in Carrollton and Garland, which means I should be getting LTE in the Plano area. I have the .33 radio flashed, the APN right, and set to LTE/GSM but I'm still not getting LTE? Do the tower signals really not bleed into Plano or am I not doing something right with my phone? I'm on Carbonrom 5/25 nightly. Thanks

You also have to enable LTE on your nexus, unless you jump through hoops, it has to be done every boot because the device resets itself to wcdma preferred. Dial *#*#4636#*#* and hit phone information. Then scroll down until you see a pulldown with "wcdma preferred" and change it to gsm/CDMA/LTE. It then will take good 5 minutes to connect usually. After that initial long time, it usually connects pretty quick if you lose signal.

Maybe they are still testing? Back in March I ended up enabling LTE on my nexus because DC area was supposed to have it up and I got LTE at my house, just no bars to go with it. So when I would test, it was around 7mbps or would drop the signal, would not work anywhere else really, and was spotty. I disabled it and the. In early may decided to try again. Now, anywhere I go I get really good LTE speeds, signal rarely drops. I would say that I'm connected about 95% of the time, and I'm up and about the city a lot, or Virginia even.

You also need an LTE enabled SIM, and if you already have one, you may need to sort things out with the carrier. I know some my American friends had trouble getting LTE to work on AT&T using Blackberries imported from Canada, even though they had LTE sims and LTE plans - they had to call up AT&T and jump through a few hoops. Also at least on AT&T and Canadian carriers, prepaid plans aren't allowed to access LTE (lame) so if you're on prepaid that could be the problem. I don't know anything about TMo, but I'm guessing they may have similar bureaucratic BS to AT&T.

Nexus 4 network type problem

Basically I'm swing two different things on my nexus 4 about my network settings. The note I'm in UK on three service provider and in strong area where I get 8-18 Mbps down and 2 up on (h). Here's my issue when i type: *#*#4636#*#* this shows: network type - umts. But in the settings on about phone this shows: mobile network type hspa. Take note I'm on wcdma prefered. Am I just being a noob or is there something not right. And ibfound this when my speeds dropped to about 5 to 11 Mbps down but this was during 11pm to 2 am. Can anyone help I've tried every other option like changing band to LTE and CDMA and gsm but nothing works and thanks.

Getting ready for 4G?

HI, the three network in the UK is rolling out 4G this weekend, what rom do I need to flash my nexus 4 with to get it working ???!!....I wan't super fast lol !!!!!!!
I think it's only starting in like 3/4 cities if your lucky enough to live in one of the cities. Also nexus 4 only supports one band on 4g if your also lucky enough for three to be using the supported band.

itll work on the n4 only if its band 4 lte, and no other frequency for lte. and its not about flashing a rom, its about flashing a hybrid radi, having the right apn, and changing the phine info to lte/gsm. there are threads that explain how to do it.
Yes I live in London.....but since updating to the latest 4.3 I can no longer select 4g LTE in the service menu. How would I find out if three is using the correct band !????

for 4.3 the option is in the phone menu, . and you need to ask them what band they are using.

band 4 for lte only. the hybrid radio lets you use lte if band 4 is available.

it goes back because you need to use either the .27 hybrid radio or the .33 hybrid radio. google disabled lte for 4.3, and you cant enable lte in the settings unless you are using one of the hybrid radios.

nice rationalization, but not true. the chip works great, everything works. and since switching over to lte permanently, ive been seeing 6-7 hours screen on time regularly. imagine this, when you download things it takes time for it to finish downloading, especially large files. the slower data speed, the longer it takes. the longer it takes, the more battery is wasted. on lte, i average about 30mbps download speed, so downloads finish in seconds. so less battery is wasted. i download 2gb games from the play store in about 13-18 minutes. the newer lte chips are much better on battety than the old days, better than hspa+, hspa, 3g, and 2g.
How can that be possible ? The LTE chip in the nexus 4 has no antenna or amplifier :/ hmm I'm baffled

Battery life is the same with LTE enabled. My N4 has it enabled my wife hasn't let me to it to her's yet and our battery life is the same, but my data is much faster than her's. I get LTE signal with my N4 in the same places as I do with my Galaxy Tab 2. So I would say it works perfectly fine. Yes I am on T-mobile in case anyone was wondering.
3 UK is going to use LTE band 3 and 20 only, so the nexus 4 will not support it (unless Google is going to release a Nexus 4 LTe version, which is pointless because you should get the Nexus 5 anyway.)

Carrier Aggregation, needs to be enabled?

Nexus 6P supports Carrier Aggregation, does it need to be turn on or is it auto config?

Where is this documented? The specs of the phone say there is no CA, especially B4-B12

If u have T-Mobile and you flash the old radio you will see that the phone has CA. The radio is the one for using band 12. There are threads for the radio. My speeds Lte increased dramatically when I flashed that radio. It uses CA for b4&12 or b12 & b4.
