Switching to MetroPCS. Necessary Steps + Unlocking? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
My 900V is currently running CyanogenMod 13.1. I am unsure if the device is unlocked or not as it was a floor-demo model. I do not have a SIM for the phone and I plan on converting my old AT&T SIM for use with the phone. I would have to unlock for this, yes? Or will switching to Metro render my current SIM useless?

[Q] Sim Unlock

I haven't been able to find any solid information on SIM unlocking this phone, so I'm asking here. Back on Verizon, unlocking a global phone didn't seem to help much, as it still didnt work on other carriers (such as when travelling to India). Will the S4 (originally on AT&T) when SIM unlocked work?

[Q] replace ATT S5 with T-Mobile

I think I can get a T-Mobile S5 and a SIM unlock and use it on AT&Ts network. Is this correct? I really want an unlocked bootloader and the abilty to run non touchwiz roms. Also, is it possible to create a hybrid kernel gto support AOSP roms under touchwiz. Never mind, locked boot loader can't change the kernel anyway, can I?
The other option may be the verizon dev edition phone. Is it possible to unlock it for ATT Network use? I'm a developer myself but just into android and cell phones in general, and I do not yet know what parts fit togrther

The T-Mobile S5 is capable of being unlocked and used on at&t's network.
I use a T-Mobile variant on AT&T and love it.
All the required bands, excellent speeds and plenty of ROM options.

I have an ATT SM-G900A S5 that is locked. I have the unlock code but don't know how to enter it. I have an old T-Mobile Sim but it is deactivated so it wont trigger the unlock fields. is there a code( *#xxx#) I can use to allow me to enter the unlock code?
Do I have to find an active T-Mobile sim?
Thanks for the advise. I just got this S5 and can do all but use it as a hot spot! ugh HELP!

First of all don't just randomly post in other peoples threads. Do you have a question? Thoroughly use the site's search function and search google. If, and only if, you haven't found your answer you start your own thread (not just randomly post in other peoples threads).
As far as I know you need a working sim card of another operator. I'm sure you can order them for free online.
Don't post in this thread no more. Make your own instead.
Here is a really good start for you. Good luck. :good:

Question about S5 (T-mobile) and unlocking sim/bootloader/running cm12

First off, sorry for the confusing thread title.
I'm currently running an AT&T Note 3 which has a locked bootloader and I've wanted to run CyanogenMod for a while now. I've ordered a second hand T-Mobile Galaxy S5 because I've heard the bootloader is unlocked and/or unlockable.
Can anyone here clarify how the sim lock/carrier lock works?
Will this require me to purchase an unlock code or will flashing the bootloader and custom firmware automatically unlock the sim? From my research I've read that I still need to unlock the sim, but I've also read that using a different bootloader can unlock it. Kind of confusing.

Will flashing a new ROM on a CDMA unlocked US Cellular variant relock the phone?

Hi,
Tomorrow, I will be paying a visit to the US Cellular store so that they can unlock my phone for use on GSM networks. I usually run the unofficial build of CyanogenMod 12.1. But I learned that in order for them to unlock it I must be on stock. My question is: after I get it unlocked, will I be able to flash back to my backup of CyanogenMod without relocking the phone? I know on full GSM phones it's more of a hardware thing. But I want to be sure once it's unlocked that it's permanent.
(Also, I forgot to mention it's the US Cellular variant of the Galaxy S5)
Thank you!!
ROMs don't affect SIM lock afaik, or you'd be able to unlock them with a custom ROM too

tmobile version actually unlocked?

hey guys i have the tmobile 6t and pay for it monthly on tmobile
i unlocked it and put latest 9.0.11 oxygen os on it
does this mean I can use it on ATT or verizon? I'm not sure if its actually sim unlocked without finding someone elses SIM in there. I know i had to sim unlock to unlock the bootloader but will I still be able to use it on verizon or ATT or another tmobile account?
thanks!

If you flashed the international's ROM, it's now SIM unlocked.

I read in the unlocking thread that flashing the international rom allows the bootloader to be unlocked, but not the phone itself. I don't have a different SIM to test my theory, though.
You must request a Sim unlock from T-Mobile. If you did the recent msmtool where you flashed to international version of oos. You would need to reflash with msmtool for tmo in order to request the unlock Sim code. Using the msmtool to flash international does not Sim unlock. That is done through the Sim unlock app installed on tmo 6t os. And must be requested and approved by Twitter for the unlock Sim code. Which you can do through TMobile Twitter, higher success rate
