How to hide soft buttons WITHOUT GMD immersive. I am rooted. - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using pie controls for a year now, in order to save screen space.
Recently after clearing my cache the onscreen buttons came back.
I can not remember how to hide the buttons. I know for a fact that I didn't use an app.

Do you have Xposed installed? I'm certain that you can hide this with gravity box.

Multitask button on Nav Bar

Looked around and didn't see this being brought up. Is there away to out the multitasking app instead of the menu button and bring back the 3 dot menu button back in apps? Hate freaking menu buttons and having to long press the home.
I remember figuring out a way to add software nav buttons on an S4 manually by editing some lines in the system but since the soft nav bar is already present I don't think that would work. Any ideas? Thanks.

Root, and there's a few nav bar replacements in the play store that autohide as well.

I'm with you, I think its stupid to have a dedicated menu button when android already has this covered.
The apps the poster above is speaking of does not fix this issue as it also hides the buttons, which is just dumb. Just be patient, I'm sure we will have a fix soon!

This may be my only gripe about this phone, I have tried several of the options, but you have to hide it or tour home screen icons in the dock get lost.

While using the Note 2 I was able to go to the (root) system file and mess with the nav bar. Im going to play with this in a few. I'll report back.

With the S4 I was able to manually add the On screen nav buttons with a line of code. Default android soft buttons are back home and multitask LG edited that to the menu button which is annoying. Let me know what you find. I'm going to try some stuff my self

While I would like to have a dedicated multitasking button, I don't think the menu button is a waste or stupid. There are still numerous apps that don't adhere to Google's new rules for a software menu button and they result in a black bar on the screen. LG dodged this by adding a dedicated software menu button. If you want to see how annoying it is, just pick up an HTC One (or DNA, or One X) and it will make more sense. What they did is emulate the Optimus G Pro (and Samsung's Touchwiz) with software buttons to give the same feel (hold home for multitasking, back and menu). I see why they did it. But yeah, it would be nice if they'd add an option for a multitasking button as either a fourth option or in place of the menu. It would certainly make more sense than the notification shade toggle.

The main reason I did not get the One was because of the stupid buttons. First not on screen and second only 2 buttons.
I do think it will only be a matter of time until someone makes a zip to add the recent button back. Wish I knew how

So my solution to this after 2 days of fiddling with the phone and trying EVERYTHING actually turned out for the better. The setup I have is using GMD gesture control for my buttons and auto hide navbar to have the navbar gone. This app let's you slide certain regions of the screen and trigger different conditions. I have no buttons at all on my screen and have slide functions that work perfect exactly where the Normal buttons would go. Slide up on the left is menu, slide in middle is home, and slide in right is recent apps. My back button is set by my thumb and it works out much better than I could have hoped.

Apps that have their own 3-dot menu
Thanks for the research on this topic. Does anyone know if the GMD app allows an app to retain its 3-dot menu functionality? I've encountered several apps that won't work with the G2's menu softkey preventing you from accessing the app's options.
thanks in advance!

3-Dot Menu Disappeared

So many months ago I altered my build.prop to remove the annoying amazon navigation bar hogging the right side of my screen. To replace the navigation buttons, I've been using 'Button Savior' and it's all been working beautifully.
My issue is that, for a small number of programs, the menu button included with 'Button Savior' doesn't activate the options menu. And the 3-dot menu button seems to have disappeared for those programs as well. So for OfficeSuite and a CPU management app, I have no ability to enter the settings/options menu.
Is there a fix for this? Using Gapps ROM Version 2.
Thanks

I have run into this same issue using Auto Hide Soft Keys and the Press application. I have to toggle Auto Hide Soft Keys to access the apps settings button. Initially I thought it may just be a landscape quirk since the Fire OS side buttons are gone when they usually are there in landscape, but I've got the same issue in portrait mode too.

[Q] disable virtual keys in video streaming

hello members.. please, in my application payed for streaming footbal soccer italian tim league, in full screen i cannot remove the virtual keys in orizontal mode viewing. the orizontal mode is obligatory and in other apps (eg youtube) i don't see these keys... is there a way for removing these keys?
thanks
I'm not sure you can remove the softkeys on a per app basis
alternative is to root, install xposed and lg pie control, then install something like 'gmd auto hide soft keys' or lmt launcher (pie controls)

please i installed but not disappeared and how i return to visible the keys?
you have to activate lg pie control in xposed.. that will get rid of the soft keys on reboot
make sure to have an alternative controls installed though or you won't be able to navigate.. personally i use 'lmt launcher' which can be got from this very xda site, this gives you pie type controls which can be configured to your personal liking. I can't vouch for gmd controls because I've never used them, but they are popular.

Softkey Mods for nav bar

Anyone know if any apps either root or none root would allow you to customize the navigation soft keys? I would like to add a menu key option to the current 3 options we have now. Stock LG options dont allow it.
Ill second that miss the menu button

I just downloaded Swiftly from a dev here and I've never been more impressed with a substitute for soft keys. And soft keys are a huge complaint for me.

The paid version is worth it.

Disable soft keys

Enabled immersive to hide the navbar. I also have an app that does this, but getting the soft keys to not display when you swipe up is what I am trying to accomplish.
I have an app called OnePlus gestures to enable gesture Nav, have the Navbar hidden, but when swiping, the soft keys keep appearing. Also tried the hw key build prop file set to 1, doesn't work at all to disable them.
The Oneplus app from the store has a navbar hid feature that disables it, but it seems to have broke something with my AOD substrate I like to run and the percentage disappears on the AOD screen now at the bottom, something with the overlay I guess on the latest build.
Anyway, if someone know how to disable the softkeys so I can just use Gestures...would be great...the navbar hide function, no problem..but the soft keys annoying reappearing is the issue now.
Thanks
If your using an essential phone try adb shell wm overscan 0,-143,0,0. What are you using for navigation?
