Since some people are starting to receive their 6P's today figured I would ask if someone could check to see which of these are supported out of the box. I know on the 5X WiFi calling and VoLTE work but Band 12 does not. I figure the same for the 6P but given it ships a week later you never know.
There was a post by someone who got their hands on a device almost a week ago and he said that VoLTE and Wifi Calling works out of the box on T-Mobile, but there isn't band 12 support yet...I am sure we will get an update for that later like we did with the Nexus 6

I kinda figured it would be case considering the 5X is the same way. I guess it was wishful thinking that maybe the 6P would get it out of the box since it technically shipped a week later. I guess I can be patient. Looking to leave Verizon for T-Mobile but I know from friends that at least in Houston band 12 makes a huge difference so won't make the move until that is active.

Yeah, where I am there isn't band 12 yet, so to me it doesn't matter... But I have heard as well that it makes a huge difference in buildings... I hope we get it here in Utah soon as well...

LOL, it had been tested on Mars!
On reddit AMA, a google rep said band 12 would be functioning by ship date. Seeing as the 6P has been shipping has anyone been able to confirm band 12 support?

No band 12 yet.

Band 12 Support
This seems to confirm Band 12 support after the latest OTA:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/nexus-6p/600054-t-mobile-band-12-supported-project-fi.html
Granted it's on Fi, but given that Fi runs partially on T-Mobile's backbone, seems like good info.
I'm not seeing band 12 with the 6P on T-Mobile.
Odd that it works with Fi and not T-Mobile.
Tmo has coverage areas where they are on band 12 only and federal law requires that if the phone shows a signal it has to be able to place an emergency call. Since the 6P does not have VoLTE yet it can show a signal but be incapable of making that emergency call which is why the phone is coming with 12 disabled on Tmo but enabled on fi where the limitation does not exist.
My Nexus 6P is not picking up Band 12 nor using VoLTE with my Project Fi SIM card nor T-Mobile SIM card. And it downloaded an update immediately upon activation. However,my Nexus 6 will pick up Band 12 on both Project Fi and T-Mobile SIM cards. I think the folks who have said they have Project Fi working on Band 12 were not reporting specifically about a 6P. Just in general that Project Fi works with Band 12.
My 6P does now work with Tmo WiFi calling though. I hope the Band 12 gets enabled soon. And also VoLTE, which doesn't work on B4 either currently. It's one of the reasons I bought this phone.
My 6P is making VoLTE calls on T-Mobile.
Does VoLTE imply band 12? Have you received an OTA recently?
I did receive an OTA when I first started the phone. I have no way to test if Band 12 is enabled because Band 12 is not yet deployed in my area due to an active TV station.

VoLTE is required for T-Mobile to approve the enabling of Band 12 but having it active doesn't mean it's active yet which appears to be the case here. VoLTE works but I am guessing there is a wait for T-Mobile to certify the device. Project Fi can use it now since Google is an MVNO and likely decided they can always switch to Sprint if a user is on Band 12 and lacks the ability to call.
I only get band 4. I know I can get band 12 because my n6 got it. I do get HD calling which I assume is volte. And I do use WiFi calling
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA Free mobile app
My phone doesn't want to enable WiFi calling. If it does decide to turn on, it has issues sending SMS, they fail. I did manage to fix all the issues by reseating my sim card, however the issues returned and wifi calling disconnected and hasn't come back since. This is really frustrating. I'm on MDB08K
FWIW, I'm currently on the phone with Google Tech Support. I don't get band 12 on either a T-Mo sim or Fi sim on my 6P. I, too, updated to MDB08K right out of the box. I believe I read on Reddit that someone dropped band 12 support after taking the update.
I tested this alongside my Galaxy S6, and that gets great band 12 reception. I might have Google send me a new device and refuse the update.
Wouldn't it be easier to flash factory image for that version to test?

I have spent the better part of an hour searching for a specific answer to these questions. So far, I have found two sources that claim band 12 works on Tmo. However I have only seen one review on Amazon from a couple weeks back that claim the phone does not support volte on Tmo. If it doesn't, that's a deal breaker for me. Can anyone, with the latest update, confirm or deny whether B12 and VOLTE on Tmo is working or not. Thanks very much in advance.
At *#*#4636#*#* testing menu there is band selector for United States and Japan
For sure at Tmo US if there is certification for this handset, VoLTE should be supported

To the best of my knowledge band 12 works. Multiple people here have even posted screenshots with the phone operating on Band 12. Sadly I live in the Chicago area and we are the the last major city to get Band 12. So I cannot personally verify it since it isn't up and running here yet. As for VoLTE that is a two way street. Lately Sony has been working with various providers to get it enabled. Basically it's all good on their end to a degree but for a phone to operate on VoLTE the carrier provider (in this case Tmo) must also flip a switch on their end as well. So in the end yes it probably can but no clue if we will ever get it here in the states. The following is to a link that explains the current situation. http://www.xperiablog.net/2016/11/30/sony-to-add-volte-support-to-xperia-x-concept-shortly/
P.S. Side note the phone info does have a switch for enabling VoLTE provisioning. However for now it does nothing (simply switches back to default radio when exiting the screen).
Oddly enough the switch got turned on for Band 12 in the Chicago area today. And yes it works and it works on UK firmware too.

If you could answer couple of questions that would make things easier for me to get this phone.
1) So when your phone is on band 12 and you make a call, does it stay on that band or goes to band 4?
2) VoLTE is working properly?
3) Any word about having WiFi calling available?
Band 12 works fine. No volte. Other than that it's been flawless on tmobile!

I didn't know that it is possible to make a call on Band 12 when phone doesn't support VoLTE.
As you might know, the Mi 6 was announced today. The specs look great for the price (see http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/new-product/mobile-phone/xiaomi-mi6-news-release-date-price-features-specifications-3653263/) and I thought I finally found the phone I really wanted.
But then the old story hit me again. No support for LTE band 20. As I live in Germany this means no matter what provider I have, I will be affected with less LTE coverage.
So I created this thread to gather any news that involve the possibility and efforts of unlocking the LTE band 20 on the Mi 6.
I hope there are maybe similarities with the ongoing efforts of unlocking the bands of the Mi 5 (http://en.miui.com/thread-242834-1-1.html or here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/how-to/progress-trying-to-unlock-bands-t3337476).
When the Mi 6 is shipped, I hope this will get some attention and we may find a way to unlock it together. :fingers-crossed:
I have the Mi Note Pro and I never spotted anyone succeeding in unlocking band 20.
I live in France and band 20 is one of the 3 main bands but I never suffered any need for band 20. I even had a Sony Z5 premium which had all French bands and I had to switch to 3g because it wouldn't receive well when I am in bed.
Depending on your carrier if you have just another band and live in a city, not having band 20 is not a deal breaker in my humble opinion.
If you really need it I wouldn't wait for sure for a way to unlock band 20.
Mi6 can work with AT&T network?

Yes that is a valid point. As I live in Berlin I won't have any problems here. But since I travel around a lot for work countryside coverage would be a good benefit. But as you mentioned band 20 won't stop me from getting the Mi6.
This thread is just if anybody comes up with a good idea on how this could be done. Just as a 'bonus'.
The most active in unlocking lte bands are people in the OnePlus forum as far as I know.

Because it needs to do a lot, such as patents, internal structure, and so on.
Maybe Xiaomi note3 will behave better.
Band 20 in mi5 CAN NOT be unlocked. It is hardware limited. Please read thread mi5, page 76.
You only need schematic diagram, then you can see.

You could say the same for Oneplus's global and China variant. They must have their reasons. I'm sure everyone, let alone, Xiaomi, know that they don't benefit for locking the bands. So, there's no point speculating on why and rather to just accept the obvious that it was not for the US market or any other country that It's not being sold officially.
Yeah, I know it's been asked before but I don't feel confident enough to pull the trigger on it to test. I am on Verizon, I have a SIM card I could use in it that's already activated ( currently in a iPhone 6 Plus ) I see it does support CDMA and LTE bands, So does it really work fully with no drawbacks?
Thanks
Verizon/Mi Note 2 GLOBAL EDITION
2G: cdmaOne (IS-95)
3G: CDMA2000 (IMT‑MC), 1xEV-DO
4G: Band 2 (1900MHz), Band 4 (AWS), Band 13 (700MHz)
Verizon also offers LTE on
If you presently have any friends or family living/near where you would use the phone day-to-day with an Android phone on Verizon, I think this works best if you've rooted it, download the LTE Discovery app from the Play Store and use it to determine which 4G bands you are encountering primarily "in the wild" during your day. According to Wikipedia, Verizon only offers LTE on Bands 2, 4, and 13 in the US. So in theory the Mi Note 2 GLOBAL EDITION supports all of VZW's bands.

Currently I have a iPhone 6 plus and established I use band 4 at my home and work, Global version supports all LTE bands I read. So yeah it should work right? Just pop my current sim in. I talked to another guy on this forum who posted a screen shot of it working on a pre paid Verizon sim and he said it's worked fine. There's just so little info on this phone working on Verizon and it make me nervous.

There are no reasons why it would not work. It supports all 4G LTE bands which Verizon uses, which means it should get the fastest 4G signal anywhere that Verizon's spectrum reaches. That represents the best case, as in phones sold by Verizon for use on their network can only be at most on par with it for 4G support.
It also appears to support all 3G protocols and voice protocols which Verizon uses.
Hard to say whether it will work immediately upon having your present SIM inserted. You may be required to make some kind of contact with Verizon to establish a change of handset, which may be as simple as having the phone's unique IMEI read to them over the phone (or even dialed in after phoning an automated system).
There's no need for any contact with Verizon. Just put the active SIM in and it works fine. I have my Mi Note 2 Global working just fine on Verizon including VoLTE. This required no contact with Verizon nor any inputs in the device info pages on my Verizon account online. In fact I would probably *not* provide an IMEI to Verizon as they will almost surely not allow activation with the Mi's IMEI...though I don't think they'd block it or anything.
I'm the "guy" the OP is referring to above...I've confirmed that all LTE bands including 2, 4, and 13...and CDMA 1X calls and EvDO data all work fine on this phone...not sure if it's CDMA BC0 or 1 in my area (I think it's 0) but both should work. VoLTE is also confirmed working perfectly right out of the box.
To the OP - what additional information are you looking for to determine whether or not this phone is right for you? I'm happy to help but I'm not understanding what else you might need to know as pretty much everything has been revealed vis-a-vis Verizon and the Mi Note 2 Global and it definitely works fine...if you're nervous about it I probably would suggest a different handset unless you really need the dual SIM functionality with Verizon...in which case it's either this phone or the ZTE Axon 7 that you'll be limited to...the Axon 7 is a better phone all in all IMO but is more finicky software-wise in my experience and takes a little more user tweaking to get Verizon to work as well as it should (some people have really struggled with the Axon 7 on Verizon but I had smooth sailing except that I had to use a GSM SIM for initial setup and also after OTAs to sort of "clear" the radio out). The Xiaomi Mi Note 2, on the other hand, has much better connectivity and has given me zero problems on Verizon...I'm actually really impressed with it in this respect.
But at the same time I find the screen on the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 to be grossly inferior to that of the ZTE...the speakers too. And MIUI is kind of meh but I know some people love it...but I guess that's kinda off topic!

In my case it's to improve data coverage but for most people it's because they travel internationally and need a second operator in the other country or they do it so they can have a work-related phone number and personal number in the same device.
"Vis-a-vis" just means "in relation to" for all practical purposes.
Can anyone verify this actually works? Got this phone with the intention of having better coverage from band 12, but i've never seen lte discovery show anything but band 4.

In short, band 12 is a low frequency signal. The towers can broadcast huge coverage areas with the low frequency at the cost lower speed than their band 4 coverage areas. Band 12 for is great at penetrating buildings with thick walls.
Very few phones support this freq on T-mobile and I was hoping the mini could do it.

Are you testing it in the same place(s) you've had other phones show band 12 on LTE discovery? Officially it should work as of the Jan 2017 update. I'm pretty sure I have had it show band 12 when I was on stock (not rooted). I don't have a way to verify this now as my Mini is on LOS which currently does not support band 12 nor Wi-Fi calling. It's also my "secondary" phone until I get time to return it to stock (or LOS gets that functionality).

Does your phone stay on LTE when making a call (VOLTE)? If yes, the phone is working on band 12.
According to these website, the A7M should work with Band 12 and VOLTE & WFC:
https://www.androidpolice.com/2017/...ini-t-mobile-volte-december-security-patches/
http://www.spectrumgateway.com/compatible-phones
You need to make sure your phone is on at least the Dec update, if not newer.
Spectrum gateway is pretty reliable. I would use them as a first resource when considering a non-Tmo phone. I am supposed to receive this phone tomorrow. Will update if B12/VOLTE/WFC works...
I got the phone today. I can confirm that both VOLTE and WiFi calling work on TMobile after installing the update from the ZTE website here: https://www.zteusa.com/axon-7mini#support
