How do you block a number starting with? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

I'm getting scam calls with spoofed caller IDs. They all use the same area code and my first 3 digit number to make it look unsuspicious.
Is there a way to block a number "starting with"? I want to block "503-267-****".
I can't find the menu on my S7 Edge. I know I had this in previous phones.
Tmobile instructions shows that this menu exists, but I don't see it in mine.

How to hide your number (not shown on the receiver Caller ID)?

In my old Hermes (Cingular 8525), there is an option in the Phone Settings to hide my caller ID, so that when I call someone they will not see my number on their phone.
However, with my Mogul, I don't see that option. Does anyone know how can I do this?
I miss this feature on the mogul too. But you can type *67 and the number for example the number is 18001234567 type *6718001234567
P.S. if you find a patch to do this from a menu I would love to hear about it.
Thanks for the info. But that means I can't use my "Phonebook" to dial, as I have to manually enter *67 and then the number.
Maybe some of our resident hacker can figure it out?
Do you just want to permanently hide your number from everyone you call? If so, you should be able to ask your carrier to add a "No Caller Id" code to your account...
you could edit the phonebook entry or make an aditional one that is blocked and call it their "other" number or fax or something
Hi all,
Thanks for the suggestions. I don't want to permanently block my caller ID, only for select number. I prefer to be able to change the caller ID feature on the fly without editing the phonebook, but I guess I'll have to do so until Sprint implement this feature.
Hi
I'm with Bell Canada and we have a option on their web to block caller ID. I selected this option and in my contacts I added *83 to the number I want to unblock my ID. So if I dial a new number I know that my block caller ID is on.

Is there a "Block Number" app?

I was wondering if there are any apps to block specific phone numbers? Sometimes I get spam from party promoters and I have no idea how they got my number. And clingy ex-girlfriends As far as I know the only way to block numbers is to get your service provider to do it (I might be wrong?), so I thought it would be nice if there were an app that could do it for you, like you could enter a list of the numbers you want to block, and when you're looking at a list view of your text messages or call history, there would be a "block number" option. Is there anything like this?

I haven't tried this myself as I don't get any calls I need to block at the moment but this is supposed to do what you want (CallFirewall):

App to block calls by area code?

Is there an app to block incoming calls from an entire area code? I get telemarketers from Phoenix on a daily basis. No matter how many numbers I block, they always manage to call from a different number.
Alternatively, is there a call blocking app which has a list I can edit by means of a text file? If so, I can just do something in Excel and have it increment by 1 until I have all 10 million numbers blocked. Of course, that would have to be a HUGE text file!
I program I use which is really great, but not free, is called MagiCall. I think it's well worth the money though cause it lets you block not only calls, but sms and it does incoming and outgoing. This program will let you block a whole area code, or any other way you want to block a number. You never even notice when it blocks a call, unless you want to notice it, then you can set it to show a notification

Call Firewall... Free & works well.....

I bought MagiCall and installed it but I don't get how to block by area code
EDIT: Figured it out!
Examples:
To block the entire area code 852, enter (852)* or (852)???-????.
To block any phone number containing 7, enter *7*.
To block all other phone numbers except 12345678, enter ~12345678.
If you want to block phone number 633-7777 but not care about its area codes or country codes, just enter 633-7777.
Each item consists of a phone number and an optional comment using one space as the separator, so please don't leave spaces among phone numbers. To separate multiple items, use ';'. For example: (123)456-7890 Jack Will; (987)654-3210 Peter Lee; 135-790-8642
No more calls from the 602 area code for me!

When I get phone calls from my contacts, the names aren't displayed.

Just switched my VZW G5 from VZ to ATT (unlocked, non dev)
I'm noticing my synced google contacts don't show up when I get a call.
When I call them, it works, the phone app shows their name and number, but when they call me, I just see the number even though that number is in my contact list.
I have noticed when I call out, the contact number is displayed with the country code ( 1 ) and the 1 isnt there when I get a call. Could that be it?

I believe that is your problem. I had to change my numbers to 9 digit instead of 6. (area code) 123-4567 if any are not the 9 digit format they only show up as a number with no name.
All my numbers stored have area codes. Another weird issue: when i call people back from the recents tab of the phone app, i get a busy signal or an error for making an international call, when its my area code.. I look at the number dialed and its just the same number with a space between the first and second digit, altering the number.
Bump
Same issues here - Verizon S6 (G920V) on AT&T, ever find a solution?

Block/unblock number

In order to block a number from calling your phone, there's a section in the My Account Preferences within Sprint's dashboard that allows you enter the number you want to block and it'll stop calling you.
On the GS7, when you go to the call log and tap on the number, it gives you a screen where you can delete that log item or it says "MORE" in the top right-hand corner that gives you an option to "Block/unblock number".
I don't believe these two things are related but does anyone know how they differ and if I should avoid using the feature on the phone instead of going into the account?

I personally think that they both do the same thing. It's not unheard of when dealing with Sprint. You can also do the same thing (block a certain number from calling you) within your messages app. Just open your messages app and select the message you want, then again in the top right corner of your screen select the "more" option and in the drop down menu almost at the bottom there's a "block message" option that if you select that, another pop up will come up that has 2 options: #1 is to block all calls from this number #2 is to block all texts from this number. All these things I believe do the same thing... IMO

I called Sprint to verify that using the phone to block numbers does not relate to blocking numbers on the My Sprint account. I don't want to block #s locally because if I change phones I lose all those blocked numbers and have to start over again.
So yes, they might do some of the same things but one is localized to the phone and the other is global to the Sprint account for your phone number. I prefer the global blocking via the Sprint account since it should be phone agnostic.
