ROM that doesn't have Bluetooth audio problems? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I *REALLY* don't want to buy a different phone, but.... I recently swapped out the headunit in my truck from a Clarion to a Kenwood due to phone audio problems with the Clarion. So now the phone over BT with the Kenwood works great but the audio over BT is skipping and breaking up. Seen lots of posts about this being a problem, but no solutions. Sometimes rebooting the phone helps, but not usually. Sometimes forcing Bluetooth Share to close will help, but not usually. I've deleted and re-paired the devices.
I am currently running the stock 6.0 ROM, build 24.49-18, only rooted. The phone says it's up to date.
On to my point... do any of the alternate ROM's seem to have the BT audio issues worked out??

Answering my own question.....
I ended up trying another ROM, AICP for clark, and so far AVRCP is working fine, it has connected/disconnected several times and has always come back quickly and without any skipping/stuttering. I haven't tried the phone over BT yet. And it's a pretty good ROM beyond that!!!

I was wrong, after a couple of days AICP started doing the same thing. Replaced XT1575 with an HTC 10, I wish the screen was larger but it's a really nice phone!!! And no Bluetooth troubles.

My phone is connected to my car radio any time I'm in the car, and not having this issue. I'm still on 5.1.1 stock but rooted. Headunit is a Alpine CDE-W235BT. I've had it hooked up 5+ hours at a time. No issues with media or phone calls.

Yeah, it works for some but not for others... I think it's more headunit dependent... my Clarion was OK for music but the phone was jacked up. Reverse with my Kenwood, phone OK but audio jacked. Either way, it had to go.....

Factory rom is the only one I can get to work properly with BT in my Mercedes

I haven't tried it on the Moto X Pure, but on the 2nd gen Moto X, Cyanogenmod had infinitely better bluetooth strength than the stock rom, or any other rom I tried. I'm not saying it's the same for the Pure, because they're probably maintained by different people, but worth looking into at least.

Bluetooth usually connects between my Moto X Pure and Mazda3, but there is a 35% chance that when I turn on my car the audio will connect in this really strange manner where tracks skip and the audio sounds horrific. The only solution is to disconnect and reconnect again, which takes another 30 seconds.
Every ROM I have tried on Moto X Pure has had this problem:
Stock, CM13, AICP
It's gotten so annoying that I've decided I am going to sell my Moto X Pure and revert to my Galaxy S4. Never have ANY problems with my old Galaxy.

Bluetooth pairing problems with all 2.1 ROMs.

So I've had this issue since the first Eris leaked ROMs. Basically, any 2.1 ROMs I've tried, INCLUDING what I'm running now, DC 2.07.2
When I turn on bluetooth, and then try to pair my headset, I get a popup saying:
Code:
To pair with "Motoroal H270",
confirm that it is showing the
passkey: 001328.
{Pair} {Don't pair}
The numbers that show up for the passkey are always different, but always 6 digits. I'm assuming the phone is not registering the correct profile for my headset.
Of course, it never pairs.
In 1.5 ROMs I simply entered 0000 as the passkey, but I do not get that option.
I've searched, but with limited keywords to search for... let's just say the hundreds of posts are a little difficult to filter through.
Is that an older Motorola Bluetooth?
I've paired the Motorola H720 with the leaked Eris. Smooth like butter. All I did was enter "0000." Worked fine. Try another bluetooth device, possibly one of more recent vintage. (Don't know how old a model your 270? is.)
I have not had any problems with my Clarion car stereo or my plantronics headset. In my car, in fact, the 2.1's have worked better than stock, since my car stereo picks up the phone and streams the audio automatically every time I get into the car without having to delete and re-pair (as I had to do with stock).

I have had no luck pairing my phone and any of my cars with any ROM based on 2.1. It pairs, but will not stay connected. Phone says "paired but not connected"; car says "paired, connected; then disconnected"; then endless loops of connected/disconnected. Sucks!
The sad thing is it seems most of these amazing ROM cookers do not use BlueTooth so it is not something they worry about. I bet this is what is holding up releasing the official Sprint update.
I too have tried searching through endless posts about bluetooth and 2.1. All I can come up with is there are some libraries missing from the 2.1 BlueZ; or something to that effect.
I love Damage's 2.0.7.2 ROM! But I have to go back to stock since driving and talking on the phone without a handsfree device is now illegal here in El Paso, TX.
I don't have a car or stereo bluetooth device to pair against. Just tried pairing my bluetooth with the new 2.0.2v2? Alysious ROM. Took 2 sec and nearly totally automatic. Amazing.
My issue with all 2.1 roms is that I can pair, dial and audio stream all day. I just cant talk as no sound or mic. I reflash back to 1.5 and all works well. BT in the car is now useless. sigh
2.1 paired fine, but its a crappy connection on 2.1, on 1.5 i had a better connection
finally used my BT last night with my phone ...worked like a champ! everything was clear to me....i don't have no sound probs and haven't used any of the fixes...
I pair with my bluetooth headset most of the time without problem. I do occasionally have to turn on and off my headset and the bluetooth on the phone to get it to reconnect. Thankfully, it only happens occasionally.....
Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones (this time) but I have been streaming audio from my hero to the car stereo while while using google navigtion, which politely talks over the music, and have not had any problems. I'll get an occasional skip in the music (probably during downloads of map data), but nothing worth complaining about.

Guys, sorry to revive an old post but I am having this exact same issue as the OP. If anyone has found a fix, please post. Thanks.
Looking at FroYo they have updated some Bluez stuff (what makes out BT work) maybe it will be better when we get that.
Hopefully...

Bluetooth streaming audio stuttering persists in Android 4.3

Hi fellow xda'ers
I got the 4.3 OTA today for my Nexus 4 and the problem of stuttering bluetooth audio persists for me.
This is in reference to the bug described here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39633
I also unpaired my phone and re-paired it but still facing the same problem.
So, just wanted to ask around...
1. Is anyone still facing this same bluetooth audio bug like me in Android 4.3?
2. Can anyone who had this bug in 4.2.2 confirm that it got resolved for them in Android 4.3?
Thanks..

The issue now is much rarer than it was before.
I guess I need to test it out for a few more days.
Thanks..
Worked fine for me in 4.2.2 .... now in 4.3 LOTS of stutter and occasional drops. Very annoying and probably related to the change of Bluetooth in 4.3 ... hope someone comes up with a fix, otherwise I'll need to go back to 4.2.2 as I use Bluetooth for music lots. Anyone that can help ... ??
I was excited to see that as soon as I upgraded from 4.2.2 to 4.3 my bluetooth streaming worked flawlessly in my car for a 2 hour drive into the mountains. However, a couple days later the stuttering came back, just as you described.
This was the one thing I was looking forward to for 4.3 but it looks like we've been let down.

Odd, I also have a Clarion stereo. I'll be curious to try it out in another car with a different brand of stereo to see if it may just be that our phones don't play well with Clarion...
I've never had issues...I have a Sony stereo and I also play in my buddies new toyota truck and plays fine. I would try on other devices..my guess would be your problem is with the stereo than the phone

I'm not really sure, what's happening.
I tried earlier on with Poweramp Player (third party app) and Google Play Music, I had stuttering in both the apps.
Then I decided to unpair the phone/stereo, change the phone name and then re-pair. Just wanted a fresh start..
After that, I had the stuttering problem whenever I used Poweramp player. The problem happens within 5-7 min. However, when I use Google Play Music, it seems to work fine. However, I haven't tested it for long. Maybe 1 hour max, so can't say if my hypothesis is correct but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. After 7 months with this phone, I really need to get Bluetooth working.

I'm in the same boat. But I really am wondering if looking at the software/apps used is the wrong method. I've been doing the same thing. Over the past 7 months I've tried various ROMs, kernels, radios etc. and nothing changes it. I've talked about it with various friends with Nexus 4's and none of them seem to have any issues.
At this point my money is on the Clarion stereo being the issue but I still have not tested the phone with another stereo. This weekend we are visiting my parents. I will try using the phone with the bluetooth on my Mom's 2013 4Runner and my Dad's 2010 F150 to see if I can replicate the problem. If it works with both their cars then I will be in the market for a new stereo.

At the same time have you checked the reverse? Any other phones that work fine with your stereo?
I have and I can say all other phones have worked fine with my Clarion stereo.
If N4 continues to have problems with the Clarion stereo, it could be easier for me to sell the N4 and get another phone, unfortunately a non-Nexus one

@sn0warmy
It seems the problem is with our Clarion car stereo indeed. A lot of Clarion stereos have bluetooth issues:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t12082313-bluetooth_audio_streaming_breaks_up
http://community.crutchfield.com/car_audio_and_video/f/27/receivers/t/22006/clarion-cx501-bluetooth
Phones like iPhone 4, Lumia 920 and Moto Razr also seem to have these problems.
My stereo CX501 doesn't have any bluetooth firmware upgrade too. Though, they have provided some firmware update for some other stereos like NX501 and so on. So you should check out on their site for a firmware upgrade.
http://www.clarion.com/us/en/support/compatibility/bluetooth/index.html
I really think you're right. I tried streaming music through my girlfriend's car stereo last night and had absolutely no issues. I've also read the threads you linked to as well as a few others and the consensus is that Clarion keeps trying to pin the blame on the phones and not their receivers. Looks like it's time to change stereos...

You should at least check if there is a firmware upgrade available for you on Clarion's support site before spending on a new stereo.
Unfortunately, it's not available for my stereo CX501.
I have stuttering too on both my A2DP devices. Both are cheap: one is from DX, th eother is from a local 'dollar store' (where it was 10 euro or so).
The one from the dollar store seems to work fine after pairing, but not when connecting again.
The one from DX (z nice plug for the aux in of the car, with a mic and henadsfree speakers through the car audio) seems to stop stuttering after a few minutes. The audio level is a lot better with 4.3.
But no difference in stuttering beween 4.2.2 and 4.3.
Problems remain
I have found no improvement with my Nexus 7 with Android 4.3. I get stuttering every minute or so. I've done a bit of reading and found that Bluetooth is hellishly complex - and would be very difficult to debug. For instance to set up audio streaming, both devices need to agree on a codec to use. There is a default base level codec. As I have found that the issue is worse on some bluetooth receivers than others, I can only guess that the issue relates to Android's selection of a codec or other parameter on some devices. I certainly have no issue with any device streaming from my windows laptop (no matter how busy it is).
I have the exact same issues with bluetooth stuttering.
Using 4.2.2 PACman rom on my Note 2 with a Sony MW600 bluetooth adapter, the audio would switch off for a second every minute or so, whether using Google Play music or PowerAmp, but it seemed to happen less on the former.
Updating to 4.3 has made it worse, the audio now switches off for at least 5 seconds to the point where i have to check if the phone or app has crashed each time.
I never had an issue with the Revolution HD rom (I think its called?) but I believe that's mostly stock?
It kinda feels like the bluetooth can't handle the bandwidth depending on the size of the file. I think there's less stuttering on lower quality files - could just be in my head though.
I have a Galaxy S3 i747 running latest 4.3 CM10 rom. My audio stuttering actually got worse when upgrading from 4.2.2. Using platronics 903+ and a bluetooth stereo unit for my motorycle helmet.
Very disappointed. My work iPhone doesnt skip a beat.

Anyone else get these bluetooth issues? (hardware/software?)

My phone connected via bluetooth to my car no problems until yesterday. All of a sudden it stopped working, i noticed no other changes, so i proceeded to try to pair both from my phone end and the car, still wasnt working so i unpaired and removed the device from my car and phone and tried to repair, the car (2012 sonata) tells me to pair from the phone, and on the phone it cannot find the bluetooth of the car.
I was freaking out and thought it was the car, but i tried my tablet and laptop, andboth are able to pick them up, ive tried turning bluetooth on/off and restarting the entire phone,
Has anyone else experienced their bluetooth going out on the s5 yet?
and what do you think would help? factory reset, or manufacturers return for hardware error?

I've been experiencing some issues with my bluetooth in cars and with wireless headsets. it has annoyed me enough to search the forums today.

Issue with Pandora and bluetooth controls can pause, cannot resume play with Aftermarket Sony deck in my truck (don't have the model handy).
Built in player sometimes has the same issues, I see more issues when the phone is locked. Fingerprint scanner on.
Today bluetooth locked up totally and had to reboot the device. I did not power down my headset before I left range of my phone and came back and it would not re-connect. I unpaired and attempted to repair and it would not. rebooted powered everything off and repaired and it started working again.
Bluetooth has issues on the S5 phones in my opinion. My iphone 5 has no issues at all with everything. locked or not. Was thinking of rooting to see if I could fix some of these issues as I prefer Android as I like the apps better and the openness to get stuff done.

No, it's not a S5 issue, it's an Android issue and it's been continuous since the beginning. These problems have happened with my previous 3 phones too, so don't delude yourself into thinking these are specific to this phone. Or that they will be fixed for that matter...

I disagree.
Bluetooth has worked on all the android models I've had in the past.
Past Android phones:
HTC Hero - worked great, slow though
HTC EVO - worked great
LG Nexus 4 - worked great
Motorola Zoom - worked great
Samsung Moment - Slow but worked
Samsung Epic - worked great
Samsung S3 - worked great
But if you want to blame the OS go for it. I think your alone there. Its a software issue with Samsung crap in my opinion vs security and all the bells and whistles they are trying to use. I think Android has nothing to do with the issue at all.
I have a moto headset with my s5 and no problems. Had no problems with same one on my s4 either so I wouldn't blame all the phones. It's electronics. Things can go won key when you have a lot of parts. It's probably just that. It happens. Even on iPhone's.

I have problems too. Very odd tho. I can pair my phone and listen to my music just fine. However if I try to use my gps while the BT is connected, no audio will cone from the phone or the BT radio. But as soon as I turn off thr BT on my phone, I can hear my gps through my phone just fine.
I haven't done a factory reset yet, but I have cleared thr phone from my car and re-paired.....still nothing.
The even stranger thing....every one in a while it will work, 9 times out of 10 it won't work. It has worked 2 times since I bought the phone, April 25th.
Never had a problem like this before, with other phones.

As I reply to this one person said they have no problems, one said they have problems. I have had the same issues with syncing and playback on my 2 previous phones, neither of them the S5. There are idiosyncrasies that exist in the software (like any software ever) that just don't work sometimes. I don't know why we should think this phone would be any different.

My Continued Bluetooth Nightmare

OK,
So I'm trying to get some help regarding this issue. I will continue to try different ROM's and what not to see if it can be resolved. I'm simply at a loss to where the issue lies though, however as of today, every custom ROM has been giving me trouble. My plan for today is to flash a stock ROM via Odin and then if that works go for Imperium, however I'm hoping with your help I may be able to solve it on something like CM12 or what not because I prefer the flexibility of a proper custom ROM.
OK, so the issue I have:
I have a car head unit which has bluetooth built-in. Music plays fine through Bluetooth, no jitters or issues. However, when I try and call someone and I'm listening to the radio or something non-Bluetooth, the phone does not send the signal (?) to the head unit to switch to Bluetooth. This means the call will be made via the dialer app and while the audio IS being routed through the bluetooth channel, the head unit does not know about it because it hasn't received the signal to switch to Bluetooth. I can switch it manually to Bluetooth and make and receive calls, but this isn't convenient at all and probably quite dangerous when I'm driving a car. The same applies when receiving a call.
Here's the thing, if I go into Bluetooth, select CAR KIT and go configuration, if I disable Media Audio, then it works fine! The phone correctly sends the signal to switch to Bluetooth and the head unit does so. The call goes through and it all works fine. This is repeatable.
Therefore, the issue I'm having lies in the fact both Media and Phone Audio are enabled at the same time. Has anyone else had this issue and does anyone have a suggestion to fix it?
Before someone suggests "just disable media audio". My answer is no, this isn't convenient at all. I use Bluetooth media quite a lot, and simply disabling and re-enabling it everytime simply isn't an option.
So far, I've had this issue on:
CM12.1 Optimized
CM12.1 Nightly
Mokee ROM
DirtyUnicorns
CM12 Nightly
I'm yet to try a stock Lollipop ROM. I know for a fact however, that stock KitKat DOES work.
I really could do with some help here, so any suggestions would be awesome.
all the roms you have tried are aosp....aosp is not designed for the s4 as its not an officially supported device (its not a nexus) so things like bluetooth and the camera will always be broken as the required stuff needed is proprietary to samsung
go back to stock and your problem will be solved

The Bluetooth itself is fine. Audio quality is fine. Call quality is fine. It just seems like a tiny little thing that's causing all these issues for me, because if it could trigger my car head unit to switch, I wouldn't even dream of stock. Also the camera seems fine to be fair?
I'm not keen on going back to stock.... at all, so I'm thinking Imperium. It's a shame though because apart from this BT issue, CM12 is fantastic on this device. Takes a 2 year old phone and makes it feel like a brand new phone.
I really hope someone can fix that Bluetooth bug in CM12.1. I may even look myself, it must be something pretty small from a coding perspective because as I said, the functionality is clearly there as evidenced by the fact it works with Media audio turned off.
Regardless, thanks anyway
Changing the modem did not solve my problem.
When did you try the Optimized and the nightlies? There have been a lot of fixes lately regarding bluetooth.

Strange bluetooth problem after upgrading to 6.0

Hello,
Where my bluetooth previously worked on Android 5.0, ever since upgrading my i9505 to 6, Bluetooth does seem to connect, but calls still go though the speaker and I cannot change it to Bluetooth mode (my car, however, sees it). And when hanging up the phone, the phone will say "Hanging Up" yet still stay connected for what seems to be an indefinite amount of time - or until I restart the phone. Needless to say, callers on the other end cannot hear me. And, when playing music, the car's head unit does show that it's playing but again, music comes through the phone's speaker only.
Any advice? I've already tried flashing AOSP 6.0 and Kushan CM 13.0 and it's the same thing on both.
Thanks.

Simple
6.0 Rom bugs.
Wait until they are fixed
They all are based on the same code. So if one roms has it they all have it.
Keep in mind that MM is brand new so you just have to be patient for it to be fixed.

In a strange coincidence, I had all sorts of trouble on my i9505 with Bluetooth on 5 but is mostly resolved on 6 (CM 13 official).

same here, but now i have new one's like connecting my mi band at all :/
I also had problems with BT with the CM13 Official Nightlies, and also with the Resurrection Remix.
But I now use the JDCTeam 6.0.1 ROM, and I don't have BT issues, I only use my BT in car, but I can send and receive phone calls, and also stream my music via BT.
Furthermore, almost everyone complains about the no sound with the calling issues.
I also had those issues back to the official CM13 and the RR 6.0.1 versions.
For me, this ROM is really good, you would maybe give it a try.
I use an old bootloader, the FNB8, but it seems to work pretty fine.
