I'd like to ask everyone the changes done by 4 . 1.2 that weren't announced by samsung.
1 new number format in stock messages app which separates international code area code and number
2 S calendar during write mode. The write on/off on the pen button has beem removed. In order to move to another month you have to turn the whole write mode off (veeeeery annoying)
3 wifi saving mode / problems - disconnects a lot
4 new changes to qwerty stock keypad. Quick symbols menu had a revamp of sorts
Any other changes?

when you've closed all tabs in the default browser and you get to the about:blank page. previously on 4.1.1, if you hit the back capacitive button on this page, it will just go back to the last page you were on before you closed all tabs to get to the about:blank page, and you can continue to access the previous pages by hitting the back button.
on 4.1.2, after closing all tabs and getting to the about:blank page, hitting back will now exit the browser.
not really a bug. its something novel that i actually liked, and sorta shows that samsung are starting to think of the little things more.

Wow if this is true, then it's certainly a good news! Previously, there was no way to exit/lose the browser completely. Have to swipe it off the Recent Apps list to fully exit the app.
Im currently facing an issue with the Pen Detection within Samsung Keyboard settings. It's not working on the 4.1.2 firmware on my 7105.
The handwriting recognition itself works, but it's just not automatically activated when I pull out my S-Pen. Anyone else with this issue? I tried resetting the settings within the Samsung keyboard settings as well as Clearing Data within Applications for the Samsung Keyboard and it still does not work.
Edit: Duh. It still works. My bad. Turns out that you gotta pull the S Pen out before the Samsung keyboard pops out. Once it appears, pulling out the S Pen will not automatically change the keyboard to handwriting recognition.

I just hate this, I just hate this.
Haven't checked second point yet.
And the battery backup should be the major compromise we are facing. It's about 15% lesser than 4.1.1, which isn't good.
Oh, if you want to have an exit option in stock browser just check the CSC topic. It's easy.

I guess not every update is perfect. Still being able to rearrange my drop down menu is a big plus. Battery drain is a bit faster but that's expected of new features are added but it isn't noticeable. I just wish Samsung fully tests of their updates and provide a complete list of changes.

There is a bug in YouTube mentioned in another thread. My touchscreen lost some sensitivity which is really annoying. The battery life stated sucking a tad bit. It's always like this, better not to upgrade.
I'm gonna revert, just dreading backing up all my files.. Thought this wouldn't be an issue anymore, I think 4.1.2 is a step down from the previous version.

thank you for posting this up...honestly, the only thing I know in 4.1.2 JB update was battery life sucked very much.
and i was surprised that there are more listed.
No Back Jumping Animation
Ive found that apart from battery life that sucks after the 4.1.2 update, I have also lost the back jump animation. Now, pressing the back button takes you to the home screen/launcher rather than jumping to the other open app. In 4.1.1, after pressing back, the previous app would jump in from the top. Now that no longer happens.
Also the phone is a bit laggy, 4.1.1 was so much smoother. Auto rotation doesnt work smoothly and instantaneously.
I have read on other threads that doing a factory reset, solves the battery drain. Anyone tried it here?
Anyone else face this issue? im on stock 4.1.2 DLL7.

Mine always worked like the way you described. If you pull out the S Pen and hit a textbox, the handwriting mode is enabled, but it doesn't switch the keyboard when the s pen is pulled out during typing. I think it is working correctly, but definitely makes a lot of sense to switch it for you when you pull out the S Pen.

Hi all, my first post on here. I picked up my S4 last Friday (UK on Vodafone) and I've been loving it ever since, its a massive step forwards from my old HTC Desire.
Anyway, the only thing that's really bugging me so far is the stock keyboard auto-correct. I've got it set-up to auto-correct when I hit the space bar but I'm running into a problem, I'm typing too fast for the keyboard. For example I type "the" and hit space, yet auto-correct is still offering me "th" as it hasn't caught up so instead of "the" I get it auto-corrected to "th". If I slow down a little it works fine but this is missing the point.
I know I can switch the keyboard so SwiftKey, which I had on the HTC, but before I do that I wondered if there's a way to speed up the auto-correct?
can you tell me how you set it up to auto correct?
i came from the htc one and really liked the keyboard and the fact that it would auto correct most things but i find with the s4 that it gives me the a correct spelling of the word in blue above the keys but does not seem to insert it into the text ive written.
thanks
Yeah where's this option

Settings, Language and Input, Samsung keyboard settings, enable Predictive Text then pick the Autoreplacement option
A mate has just tried using the "swipe" like input method on his S4, it makes the auto-correct lag issue look simple. Its so bad that its effectively unusable for quick text entry!
I've found it sometimes to be SLOW. as in , i type a whole word like KEYBOARD, and the predictive text didn't keep up and it replaced my word with "."
then sometimes, i've found the keyboard to be super QUICK!. not sure what the hell is going on.
This sounds like a bug. how do we notify samsung?
clearing the customized learning makes it REALLY QUICK, but then you lose your common words.
even you type a word in like KEYBOARD carefully and slowly it will replace it with its default word...
stupid really. if i typed it in slower and careful, i dont want it to be replaced.

Hi,
The text select cursor (the blue pointy thing) gets hidden behind the keyboard when the text I am entering or selecting is just above the keyboard. I've attached a screenshot to illustrate the issue. This wasn't always the case.
Also earlier the drop down with the word suggestions and correction options would stay over the keyboard but now any part of it that flows over the keyboard is hidden behind it. This also wasn't the case earlier. I couldn't replicate the issue for this thread. But I hope was I explained is clear enough.
I'm running the stock ROM on my N4, version 4.3, build - JWR66Y.
Stock keyboard. I dunno what other information I could share.. do let me know.
Thanks a lot for any help.
I've tried searching for a solution for the problem and I've got none. Hope I ran a search the proper way and didn't miss out on another similar thread.
There is a part of the email body missing on top and bottom. It appears that you are zoomed in. Are you using the stock kernel? Have you changed the resolution of the phone? Are you using any of the accessibility settings?

No, I've just typed enough to scroll the screen up a bit. No zooming. No accessibility settings. No custom kernel. Like I said, it's stock.
Ok got you. I just went and tried to replicate this with gmail, as I am using the stock rom and kernel. I basically get the same behavior, except I get no cursor at all. Is that something you enabled somewhere?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
It's got nothing to do with Gmail specifically. I just chose Gmail to illustrate the issue. The same issue / behaviour is exhibited on all apps which have text boxes - messengers, social apps, notes, etc.
The blue pointer cursor won't appear on it's own. You have to tap the text the way you do when you want to move the cursor to a particular point or when you want to select a piece of text.
The cursor shows up upon tapping the text once. From there you can drag it. My point being that it is nearly impossible to drag since 95% of the curson/pointer is hidden behind the keyboard.
Ok, I follow you now. I don't have that problem within none of my apps that use the keyboard. I am rooted but running stock rom, keyboard, and kernel.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
Now see, that's exactly how it used to be for me as well. That's normal behaviour. Hope someone can point out why I'm facing this issue and rectify it.
Thanks for the help.
I am having this exact problem. Is there a way to fix this?
Help
Is there or has there been any updates on this? I ran into the same issue on my 2013 vanilla Moto X. Now I have that issue on my brand new Nexus 6P. I really want to resolve this. Not only is the cursor hidden, but spelling corrections and other items are being hidden. The keyboard I'm using is by SwiftKey, but the results are the same using the Google Keyboard. Help!
Example 1
Example 2
Facing the same issue on my Note 4 rooted with kitkat 4.4.4 on Stock Touchwiz and Xposed. Driving me nuts. Any solution, guys, please help. Tried with multiple Keyboards. Same issue across all apps, not just Gmail. The blue curor just disappears behind the keyboard. In my earlier note 3 the page would scroll down as I keep selecting, here the selection stops upto the keyboard point.
Anyone? Please help......
Update
I have an update on this issue. It's not a solution unfortunately, but it might be a clue for someone.
I was using the Facebook Messenger app earlier, messaging someone in a chat head (the hovering bubble for anyone who doesn't know), and both the cursor and the spelling corrections were on top of the keyboard. Not hidden behind. What does that mean? That's the first time I've noticed those things working properly
Yes in my previous 4.3 Note3 thats exactly how the text selection cursor behaved so I could continue selecting text. In Note4 it goes BEHIND the keyboard and stops selecting further and in fact just disappears. Only the text selected till that point remains highlighted. Need a mod to bring the cursor on TOP of KB instead of behind like Rawk3rSix pointed out. Some expert developer help and input needed....
An update : I tried the stock Email App instead of Gmail app today and to my surprise the issue is not there at all in Email App. Works like a charm. Im able to select text even with the cursor going below the keyboard. Problem solved for now. Something in the Email App which is there or not there in the Gmail App.
In that stock email app, how do the spelling corrections work for you? Are they ok?
I dont really use spelling correction from the stock Email App. I hate autocorrect anyway.
I use Xposed Module TEXT AIDE which serves the purpose anywhere pan-device

Stock mail app so much better than GMail :
a. Text selection error resolved
b. No forced Conversation View
c. When forwarding a message and trying to edit the forwarding text, no ridiculous ">" symbols before each line
I use Inbox and Outlook for email
The issue wasn't solved for your texting or messaging app though, right? I use Facebook Messenger and Google Messenger
Yes texting not resolved but since text msgs are usually much smaller, I can live with it.
Clue : Apparently this issue surfaced after the last Kitkat update 4.4.4...... Probably may or may not be there in LP/Marshmallow
Is anyone out there?? This issue is getting old and very frustrating =( help!

Wow bro i was exactly in this moment post this issue.
I have the problem to i cant type in the upper app whatever the app is, i also use siwftkey. Have you find any solution? this happened to me after upgrading to kitkat sm-n900.
I tried undocking swiftkey and it worked, but it can be the complete solution. There are some pics of different apps , another issue is that when i want to edit the multiwindow apps the option to go play store is not available.
I donĀ“t know were to look, if any of you know something please share
Thanks
Nope, sorry man. Currently i'm just sticking to swapping the top screen with the bottom whenever I need to type. Tedious though
I have this issue too. I noticed that the stock keyboard doesn't have this problem.
As a temporary solution I used tasker with the note buddy plugin to automatically switch the SwiftKey keyboard to stock.
I know it's just not the best solution since you always have to pull out the s pen, but it's something.
For those who don't have tasker, there's the SpenBoardswitcher.

Has there been and solutions or updates to this? Driving me nuts. I noticed that after I updated my note 3 to 4.4.2 on att this issue presented itself
Swiftkey doesn't support Multiwindow. It has never officially done so.
Ugh. Quite frustrating but it is what it is. Thanks for the response.
So I have found the keyboard to be somewhat fraustrating. Not because it is virtual, but because of the software behind it.
First of all, it is rather strange that you cannot set more than one keybaord. Essentially, the device can have two keyboards that you might regularly swap between: the hardware keyboard and the one screen keyboard one might use while in tablet mode. The hardware keyboard uses the autocorrect of the keyboard you have set as your software keyboard. You cannot set seperate keyboard engines for the hardware and software keyboard.
As I said, the autocorrect/engine behind the hardware keyboard is dependant on your choice of software keybaord. However, as far as I can tell, only the defualt TouchPal keyboard provides any autocorrect for the hardware keybaord. The stock android keyboard offers no autocorrect with the hardware keyboard.
On a related note, TouchPal is awful. The autocorrect works pretty badly and is basically very annoying to use. I won't bore you with the details, but things like autocorrecting to a new word when you go back to edit a mistake. This makes it almost unusable.
Also the touch pad is very bad. No two funger scrolling means that again, it is pretty much useless.
I think the Yoga Book is a great device in most respects. Its intersting that all of these problems relate to the software and could potentially be fixed by Lenovo or there may even be fixes out there now.
Has anyone found any solutions to these problems? Thanks, Liam
I completely agree with you and am having the same frustration with the software behind the keyboard. So far the best solution I have found is to use SwiftKey or Swiftkey Beta (not sure which is best yet). With a bit of tweaking you can get decent auto complete and auto correct using both the halo and on screen keyboard. Much better than Touchpal at least. A couple of issues I have found using Swiftkey and halo keyboard: 1) auto complete seems to turn off when resuming from sleep mode (tapping the keyboard button on the top row reactivates it) 2) in WhatsApp Tablet app, after pressing Enter to send a message, the next message gets double words - I. E. Auto correct adds to what you type, doesn't replace it.
I can confirm that switching to SwiftKey makes the hardware keyboard usable! I'm actually using the keyboard to type this now. Naturally, I'm making tons of mistakes but it is catching and correcting almost all of them!
Can confirm that SwiftKey easily switches between physical keyboard and on-screen keyboard when the physical keyboard is toggled on and off.
If anyone is still using the default software keyboard, switch now!!!
Thanks for the tip! This makes a big difference! Have either of you found a way to get auto capitalise to work? The setting is enabled but it doesn't do anythig.
My issue with SwiftKey is that there is no good ways to select a suggested word. You always have to click with your finger on the screen which completely ruins ten finger typing for my.
So I ended up with disabled word correction as it's faster to remove some mistyped words and type again, than to click on the screen.
How do you handle suggestions made by SwiftKey?

I have found that SwiftKey enters the main suggested word when I press space. This is good for most of the time, but annoying when:
-I want to select a suggestion that is not the main suggested word (particularly a new word that it doesn't recognise)
-I want to add punctuation directly after the main suggested word (here, because I input the punctuation rather than pressing space, the suggested word is not entered)
I have certainly found using SwiftKey to be the best experience. It's quite a passive autocorrect that doesn't get in the way too much. I got so sick of TouchPal which really gets in your face with its incorrect predictions.
But still there is a lot of room for improvement. It's such a shame that it's terrible software that lets down this keyboard. In particular I don't understand why:
- Some keyboards (like the Google Keyboard) don't offer any correction or prediction when enabled. Does Android maybe treat the Halo keyboard as an external keyboard (which I suppose you wouldn't want predictive features for)?
- Keyboards that do offer prediction don't seem to respond to changes to their settings (I can't get SwiftKey to auto capitalise the first letter of a sentence for example). @thespinner02 mentioned tweaking with SwiftKey settings- I assume they meant for the onscreen keyboard because these settings don't do anything for the Halo keybaord.
I wonder whether there is a keyboard out there in the Play Store that works better with the Yoga Book. I'll try a few and let you guys know if I find one.
I tried several solutions but couldn't find anything good. Hardware keyboards are not that common on Android platform, I guess.
Even using Swiftkey I sometimes get different results depending on the app being used. Auto capitalise is working OK for me, in Word for example.
There are specific options in Swiftkey for Physical Keyboard: in settings, Typing, Voice & Other Input. In Physical keyboard section I have Autocorrect and Auto capitalize on. Everything else off.

Thanks! I didn't notice that- smart spacing etc makes a massive difference!
Pretty much my only problem with SwiftKey now is that it sometimes creates its own weird textbook instead of typing directly into the text field. But that's not a massive problem.
Also I sometimes accidentally change input method. Maybe I'm using a keyboard shortcut by mistake?

Went into Swift settings in onscreen. How to get settings for Halo?
With Yoga Book in laptop mode. Settings / Language & input / SwiftKey Keyboard / Typing / Voice & Other Input
You also need to make sure 'show input method' is not enabled in the keyboard settings/selector popup.
Does anyone else experience a problem with SwiftKey where in some text fields your text goes into a little popup text box at the bottom of the screen as well as the intended text field? And then to get rid of the popup text box you have to tap 'next'. This occurs in the Facebook messenger app for example.
Any way to disable it?
It seems to do this when the text field is small, but other keyboards just expend the text field as you type. The popup text box it creates doesn't expand anyway, so it doesn't offer extra functionality and is just an annoyance.
