Where I come from there's a saying "every Gipsy praises his horse".
Having that in mind, I'm asking you, Xperia Z1 Compact owners, to reply here honestly, if you have any regrets and remorses for buying this phone.
It's a serious money for me, and I plan to have my next phone for at least next two years (I've had Motorola Atrix for three years), so please, serious answers only.
I have regrets buying it at launch lol! In my country right now the phone had dropped it's price for like almost 1/4 already. Could have saved some money if only I had waited a week or so.
Honestly for the Specs and Size. Its a "YES" for me. I had HTC One X for 2 years but the thing I don't like is the Battery life. Was thinking about Nexus 5 or Moto X which has very similar specs but i go for the "size", "battery" and IP57.
Z1C last me average 2.5 Days with 4 hrs screen time. (For normal usage)
Regrets on Z1C was only the screen had ASF (Thin layer of film to prevent glass shutter) which easily get scratch. (Solution - Get a good screen protector, prefer a Glass with 9H)
Liking - Battery, Water Resistant, Power, SD Card Slot, Camera and a slick design.
Not talking about the software side but I read that Sony quite reliable on updating their software + Firmware. Currently on 4.3 and likely to get 4.4 kitkat (Hopefully the battery will get better then).
Hope this helps!
No regrets!
I would not recommend buying a Z1c at the moment, not until it is seen if Sony bother to fix issues in the phone software. Unless you are happy to unlock + root, then go ahead.
The stock Sony software has so many quirks at the moment its driving me nuts!
calls answer to speaker phone sometimes
sound enhancements/ equalizer only works for walkman app
fast dormancy is broken, causes high battery drain
"superior auto" on the camera is a disaster in low light/ flash photo
Some intermittent weirdness with notifications and LED caused by stamina mode
volume randomly reducing itself and volume warning sporadically appearing
Some compatibility issues with 3rd party browsers
proximity sensor issue: 1-2 second delay in screen switching back on if it was switched off by proximity sensor. i.e when you make/receive a call, you have to wait to hang-up the call. minor inconvenience really.
And as already mentioned, the plastic ASF on front and back glass is very, very delicate. Leave the phone wrapped in cotton wool until you have protectors on front and back!
oh, and buy a dock or magnetic charging cable too, otherwise the USB flap comes loose (mine has after 3 weeks)

Thanks. Root + xposed is mandatory, unlock + custom ROM optional
calls answer to speaker phone sometimes <-- This is an issue with chrome browser not Xperia Z1 Compact.
sound enhancements/ equalizer only works for walkman app <-- Well the equalizer was polished for walkman. This is the same even on my HTC One except for beats audio at least.
fast dormancy is broken, causes high battery drain <-- It's not broken it's on by default unlike other devices which is off by default and just customized by network operators or depending on variant. Fast dormancy would really kill your battery if it's on and your network provider doesn't support it as it will keep on enforcing fast dormancy even if it's not available.
"superior auto" on the camera is a disaster in low light/ flash photo <-- Ok for a smartphone camera though... It's meant for average users for average results. Hence why manual mode is added. If superior auto was the best of everything then what would be the use of manual mode then.
Some intermittent weirdness with notifications and LED caused by stamina mode <-- Well stamina mode is stamina mode. It's doing its job. I would have been disappointed if it can't control system apps though... Android is all about customization. Would defeat the purpose if we can't control system apps here. If you want it to work with stamina mode then add it on the whitelist.
volume randomly reducing itself and volume warning sporadically appearing <-- Never encountered this yet.
Some compatibility issues with 3rd party browsers <-- Like? Been using Opera and firefox here since I disabled chrome because of the first issue you mentioned.
???
Another software bug needs to be fixed is 'proximity sensor issue'.
@Riyal the speakerphone big didn't go away by removing or freezing chrome here. It popped up again even after switching to boat browser.
But I have learnt to work around this by changing the way I swipe to unlock.
The real regret is camera. Nothing else. Everything else has solution so far. Camera is weirdo. Very inconsistent.
And no, that is not acceptable for today's high end smartphone camera. Nexus 5 trakes better and consistent photos indoors at the moment.using its tiny sensor. Sony should be ashamed of this.
From my Xperia Z1 Compact, in your face!
Comments inline, excuse the lousy formatting and typos, I wrote this one my z1c

Wasn't aware of this, thanks for the tip
sound enhancements/ equalizer only works for walkman app <-- Well the equalizer was polished for walkman. This is the same even on my HTC One except for beats audio at least.
Would be fine if 3rd party equalisers worked, but they don't.

Fast dormancy would really kill your battery if it's on and your network provider doesn't support it as it will keep on enforcing fast dormancy even if it's not available.
My network does support fast dormancy, but there is still an issue with it. FD works for a short while after a factory reset (can see FD working), then at some point it stops functioning. (connection stays as "H" not falling back to "3g" and the wake locks start. Have replicated this 3 times.
"superior auto" on the camera is a disaster in low light/ flash photo <-- Ok for a smartphone camera though... It's meant for average users for average results. Hence why manual mode is added. If superior auto was the best of everything then what would be the use of manual mode then.
I'm more than happy to use the manual mode, and that works fairly well. One annoying "feature" is that the lock screen shortcut and camera key launch the camera in superior mode.... No good.
Some intermittent weirdness with notifications and LED caused by stamina mode <-- Well stamina mode is stamina mode. It's doing its job. I would have been disappointed if it can't control system apps though... Android is all about customization. Would defeat the purpose if we can't control system apps here. Again, a replicatable issue with notifications coming through delayed. You can sometimes get a notification for a text message or something whilst already reading it! (if you so happened to check the app just before it arrives - Verified on two Z1c's as my friend also bought one after playing with mine.
volume randomly reducing itself and volume warning sporadically appearing <-- Never encountered this yet. only happened to me a couple of times, and it has been mentioned on sony forum by someone else. It seems there is a timeout or something and the phone pops up with a warning message and reduces the volume automatically. If using speakers or high impedance headphones, this is not useful!
Some compatibility issues with 3rd party browsers <-- Like? Been using Opera and firefox here since I disabled chrome because of the first issue you mentioned. I've seen reports of others having lag/stability issues with other browsers. Not tried one myself. Was trying to give a complete list of possible issues here

Overall, I'm happy with the phone, it's just extremely frustrating to *have* to start rooting and flashing custom roms because Sony couldn't get it right..... We'll see what they fix.
I love it!! I had a Z and a Z1 before so I new what I was getting into software wise I just hope kitkat gets here soon. Love the size and performance of this thing
The Z2 is tempting but I remember not liking the Z1 because it was too big

No regrets here.
Of the previous listed 'weaknesses' the only one I regularly encounter would be the superiour auto mode in camera, but manual mode is quite fun to play with.
My main grip with auto is that it's limited to 8mp, to get 20 (yeah mp isn't everything, but it is nice to have) you need manual mode.
Sony are generally very nice with updates, so optimistic for 4.4 and beyond support.
no regrets
Only regret is not using a screen protector - the anti-shatter film (ASF) scratches very easily (front and back).
Couple of quirks, like intermittent sound distortion (almost only on GEL launcher, only happened once on stock launcher), occasional battery drain (but my 13 N7 is even worse the last couple of days so i aint even mad),
But other than that that the build quality, form factor, and general benefits far outweigh those few quirks, im quite smitten with it.
just waiting on kitkat now. Not even gonna bother rooting till there's a simple super-noob friendly method.
edit: i should add that after a weeks use my phones still completely scratch free. only precaution i take is to make sure it gets a pocket to iteself whenever i put it in my pants/jacket. Thats pretty much it.
Also, people have been mentioning its a lint / fingerprint magnet....so get the white one. The black store demo model i saw looked like it had been dipped in room temp bacon grease and covered in lint. The white one hides those kind of blemishes ALOT more compared to the black one.

My phone sometimes does this too. Very occasionally, and the trend I have noticed is when I receive calls from telephone numbers not in my address book. Maybe my idea was just coincidental. Anyway, can you ELABORATE on this idea that it is the chrome browser? How can they be related?

thanks,
And I have no regret about buying this phone, just to answer the OP...
There seems to be nothing that is critically problematic, hardware wise, so future updates can address most problems.
No regrets.
The only regret is that I dropped it on the floor once. :crying:
I have no regrets.
I bought the Atongm W013 from efox and it arrived on September 2.
I only have it for one day so i will post first impressions and hopefully i will follow with further info.
Design :
The watch is slim and light , weighing 60 grams, it sits very comfortable on the wrist. The leather feels real and it should fit most people.
There is black outline of the screen is visible. The clasp feels plastic. The button on the side (rotating) seems sturdy but if it will hold, only time will tell.
The metal is prone to smudges.
The transflective screen is good. You can see the time clearly in almost all conditions. The lcd screen seems to have a low dpi and dull colors, which i suppose, is a consequence of the tech behind transflective.
Hardware:
You can find most of the specs on internet i cannot verify at the moment anything. If someone knows of an apk (or adb shell command) that will allow me to check this, please advise. Note: it must work on Indroid!
There is one button that acts as on/off/stby/wake switch and an invisible capacitive button on the bottom right corner of the screen which acts as BACK.
The touchscreen is responsive and feels ok. You can type on the onscreen keyboard with greatest ease than with the ZGPAX S8 i have.
The software:
It runs on a version of android 4.3 named Indroid. The firmware on mine is v1.6-x2-hwv1.1.0-20150402.
The heart rate and step counter work as expected: not accurate but close enough. Both functions DO NOT work on the background, which is plain lame. Once you press back it stops counting.
The companion app did not work for me when i was running CM12.1 on my galaxy s4 (i could no install it). I think it has problems running on ART. I downgraded to 4.4.4 and it works flawlessly so far.
Notifications work nice, the screen lights up automatically and the notification text is displayed in size 10 letters.
The vibration on the watch is perfect. Not to strong not to weak.
Audio is weeeeeeaaaaak. The speaker is on the back side of the watch and i can barely hear anything.
The settings allow some developer options but are very limited compared to normal android.
Ingenic provides an adb driver for the watch that works fine and i have been able to get root through adb and perform basic ops.
The watch faces are 8. 7 of them is -imho- crap and one (the digital display) is nice.
Remote control camera works but with some lag.
Remote music control, find my phone, weather, contacts sync, sound recorder and calendar work fine.
Overall:
Very happy. I payed 60 euro and it is totally worth it. I already have the ZGPAX S8( heavily modded both soft and hardware) which i use for my runs. So i wanted an elegant watch that i could wear at work and get notifications for calls, sms and mail. Most people do not notice that this is a smartwatch until i tell them and then most of them ask if it is the apple watch.
If this guys could come up with a decent firmware that would allow some sensible use of the sensors (like heart rate transmission through BT to phone, or heart rate sampling every 30 minutes to present data ,or just keep the step counter...counting) it would be better.
Hi, I got the same smartwatch yesterday. I have the Prob to find an App for sync to my smartphone. The Link of QR Code isnĀ“t exist. Where can I found the sync App. Please help me. Thanks.
Helloo, I recently buy that phone, and I'm confused a bit, I would have your point of view about the positive / negative thing of the Z5P
To my mind I find the design awesome af, on this point there's no problem (maybe the +/- volume key are not at their better place, anyway)
Then the fact there's no other way to get root than unlock the bootloader.. Hm I don't really like that, the + is being rooted, the - is losing warranty, what to say to convince me?
It also seems development (Roms, etc.) for Z5P looks slower than other high end Xperia device.
The second point that grind my gear is the battery.. I entirely read the XDA thread about it and it seems to be such a poor battery compared to the phone spec's
I haven't confirmed on my own the SOT or battery life day (I'm still using my Z2 instead of testing Z5P, just why xD maybe Z2 > all) but in less than a hour I lost ~20% battery and I wasn't using it in heavy using, (adaptative brightness lower level, wifi, no location, 9gag a bit, installing play store apps, & kind of usual things)
So after all these points raised, I'm full of doubt, I need halp :3
Does he worth it? Let's share your feelings, your opinions in this thread and maybe it'll help me to keep / reject that ^-^
See ya o/
With 6.0 the speed improves a lot according the people..
Battery drain i hope that improves with 6.0...
Personally I think the audio quality (through headphones) is great, although the speakers are a bit low on volume IMHO.
Screen is ace, camera could be better (Had the LG G4 before this and the camera on that was phenomenal). Love the physical camera button, though. Video quality is great.
Rear glass panel isn't as scratch resistant as the front... as such the back gets scratched easily...
Overall, phone is great, screen is really nice, battery, i have seen better but it lasts me through the day, biggest downside is that damn glass rear side, making phone sooo slippery, already dropped it few times.
Thanks for replying
some of you have unlocked the bootloader ? does it really decrease photo quality ?
Pros:
- Quality display. Very beautiful and accurate. 4k is noticeable.
- Although it's 1080p upscaled to 4k it looks very sharp
- MicroSD expansion up to 200GB
- Camera takes very nice pics in Manual mode
- Build and construction is solid and feels good.
- Fingerprint scanner is fast when it works.
- Hi-Res Audio. DSEE HX is OK. Only noticeable on low quality mp3. Turn off if you listen to lossless. Downside is that you can't use an EQ along with DSEE HX bitrate upscaling.
- Support for Apple Lossless files (ALAC) ty Sony!
- X-Reality makes photos look very good in Album.
- Performance is fast and snappy. Clean ROM compared to others like LG/Samsung. I don't feel like I NEED to install a custom ROM. I am happy with stock.
- Emoji Autocomplete/Quick Typing on stock keyboard. Didn't feel the need to download Google Keyboard or Swiftkey.
- Battery life is OK. Takes me through the day without a problem. It's NOT a two day battery. For some reason, battery sucked in the beginning then got better somehow. I didn't update the phone at all it just got better over time.
- Sony gives you the tools to unlock and play with stock AOSP (Careful about losing your DRM Keys!)
- Front facing speakers are good. I never accidentally cover them so I can always hear the sound.
- PC Companion software is actually good. Didn't try Bridge for Mac but seems pretty standard.
- Sync music from iTunes via PC Companion.
- Keychain strap area!
Cons:
- DPI change without root will mess up UI. No fix unless factory reset.
- X-Reality only works on the phone. The photos don't look as nice when you export to PC or share on social media.
- Speakers could be louder, Notifications are really loud still.
- Ambient light bug (hopefully fixed in 6.0)
- Slippery surface and sides. Can get oily from fingerprints.
- Android Pay isn't working for whatever reason.
- Only 32 GB internal. Fine for most, not enough for me. (6.0 will integrate microSD as internal)
- MicroSD swapping requires phone to restart because it is on the sim port. Dual sim does not restart due to separate MicroSD port.
- Camera takes pics too slow due to post processing
- Front facing camera sucks a lot.
- Only stock camera is good, all other cameras suck on the Z5
- No 4K .MKV playback support only MP4
- Gets hot at times, but not too hot to touch
- Fingerprint scanner is sometimes too fast (not accurate). I touch it a little and it thinks I'm trying to unlock the device even when I'm not. I just wanted to see notifications on my lock screen. I hate this a lot because I graze it with any part of my hand and it says wrong fingerprint all the time. Then it says fingerprint functionality locked. Very annoying.
- Always changes orientation when I'm just using the phone. A slight tilt is all it takes. Because this is a large phone, it tilts a little in 1-hand use. And then everything goes in landscape and I have to tilt the phone back. I hate having to turn on rotation lock because I need to turn it off when I want to use in landscape.
- No way to stream any 4K over the internet. No YouTube, no Netflix, etc. Must download/shoot your own 4K videos and put it on the phone.
Things I wish it had:
- USB Type-C
- Wireless charging
- Sandblasted instead of polished metal sides. It's slippery god damnit. And make sides more flat instead of round, just round the edges.
- I wanted an all white edition (Chrome and Gold too flashy for my tastes. White is classy and professional. So is black. I have the black one.)
- Matte finish glass backing
- Wish fingerprint scanner was higher up by a little. My car mount either covers the power button or presses the volume keys.
I hope this is thorough enough for you. Feel free to add to the list.

NP. Oh and unlocking the bootloader will disable some of the post processing in the camera so yes, camera quality suffers. I have not tried this myself, but from image sample tests in other threads I can see a very minor difference. AFAIK the biggest difference in camera quality will occur in lower light situations.

I would wait since 6.0 is coming now, but good luck if you are still going for it. Keep in mind you also lose DSEE HX, X-Reality as well. They will show up but don't do anything.
I got my 6.0 update today. I have some changes to my review since they managed to fix a few issues.
First on that list is the fingerprint scanner. Wow it works really well now. I still get the occasional missed fingerprint but that's more on me than the device. When you want it to work, it works.
Second, the ambient light/auto brightness bug has been fixed. (Finally)
Third, Sony did not add in the ability to merge microSD with internal. I'm bummed out.
Fourth, Android Pay works now. I can finally pay for my coffee with my phone.
Some new pros:
- Doze helps save battery on standby
- Smarter Do Not Disturb mode
- Even better performance
- Better stock launcher with smaller icon size options and page transition animations (I would use it, but Nova Launcher is too good.)
my biggest complain is how they are not taking advantage of the 4K screen and screen size at all. Should be a row of 5 icons by default And youtube still doesn't do 4K video after MM update. That is like the biggest no brainer to add into the update. Right now its just basically 1 lazy version of Android OS for all the Z5 line up and they only rely on a couple of their own app to take advantage of the screen.
Hi everybody, i upgraded to the OP5 midnight black from my OP3 with LineageOS and as last year, I'm trying to stay on OxygenOS for as long as possible
Basically I like OOS, but there are some things that just don't make sense to me (those things are not new, but I noticed them when switching back to OOS):
- Dash charge sound: when i plug in the dash charger, i see this lightning animation followed by a sound/jingle. I can't check right now, but I think this only happens when the screen is not unlocked, but also when the phone is on silent/DND mode. At least give us an option to deactivate it.
- Ringer volume to zero: I'm perfectly happy with the stock android volume management. All, DND, and silent - most of the time my phone is in my pocket or in my hands, thus i do not want a ringtone. Sometimes the phone is on my desk and i'm some meters away - that's when i need a ringtone. On LineageOS/Stock Android, i could just raise the ringer volume from zero to the volume i want. On OOS, things are different and I do not like it. Why change it in the first place?
- also i'd like to control the media volume with the volume rocker keys by default (i change ringer volume maybe once a week). this used to be an option in one of the LineageOS / Cyanogenmod versions I think.
- camera disables flash when battery is under 15%. Most of us are grown up people who should be able to decide for themselves if they want to save battery or take a good photo.
- minimum brightness is to high for me and auto brightness is buggy.
- button backlight is too short / only lit after a button is touched.
What do you guys think about these things? Are you annoyed as well or do you think these "features" are legit? If you know of mods/hacks/tricks to fix one of the problems, feel free to share. thanks in advance :good:
Most of these things have already been criticized on the OP3/T and brought to OnePlus' attention months ago.
They didn't listen unfortunately.
Especially the fact that we can't mute our phones with the volume down button is mind-boggling!
Been this way since OOS 3.5 Marshmallow Beta1 on the OP3 and users started complaining. We are at Beta 18 + numerous stable builds later.
I think it speaks for itself.
I'm missing DND mode + vibration because of this.
Also when the device is on the upmost slider position (silent),
it will also silence android wear devices and render them useless for notifications!

I use Lux (on playstore) which completely overrides the built in auto brightness with an easier to control alternative. To use plugins requires root but I am not using plugs on my OP5.

I didn't have any issues with it on AICP Nougat 7.1.2 on a TabS SM-T800. Now on the OP5 (v4.5.4) it works well although occasionally it does not seem to start on a reboot but with so many OTAs so quickly I can't nail when that started. Its also not a consistent issue. Once started it sticks and works as advertised. Lux has been part of every Android device I've owned for a long while now. I really like using the profiles for example one for inside, outside and watching videos (Youtube, Netflx, Plex ...).
Title says it all. I will keep it short and sweet.
Upgraded from an OP8. The Oppo definitely feels heavier in the hand and pocket but can attribute this to the ceramic housing. Feels good in the hand, even with the stock case. I did receive the gift pack which had the Kevlar case and that is lovely but the top, bottom and side buttons are exposed to the elements and that has put me off using and I am continuing with the stock case.
Camera - good. Better than the OP8. Better than a Pixel6 Pro? No, almost as good. I am no camera expert so I don't tinker with all the settings, I am more your regular point and shoot user. I rarely shoot video so can't comment much but again no issue, playback is nice and crisp, sharp smooth quality.
Good battery - charges quick, although I'm not convinced the wireless charger is as fast as it claims i.e. 50W.
User experience - this is where I have some gripes. On the whole it is fine and slick and snappy most of the time but...
1. Sometimes there is a moment of freeze/lag/sticks when I have tried to leave an app or switch to another app- not snappy.
2. When I am listening to YouTube via Bluetooth in the car and somebody calls me, the YT playback continues so I hear both the caller and YT. The caller does not hear the YT playback but can hear me. I have tried the various permission settings but no joy.
3. Screen sometimes wakes up with fingerprint. What I mean here is I can place my thumb on the screen and it signs in. However sometimes I have to double tap the screen to wake it up THEN apply my finger to unlock.
4. Power button - does not power down. Have to use volume up and Power button. Not a biggie but quite annoying.
5. No lockdown mode. I badly want this, but again this works in tandem with the power button.
6. No alert slider like the OnePlus range (which I hear is ditching the alert slider which means they will be using and rebranding Oppo hardware going forward). I usually have my phone on vibrate or silent, very rarely on Loud/ringtones. A helpful XDA user advised me to use the vibrate button to switch between silent and vibrate.
7. I use the Podcast Addict app. The player appears in the banner (pull down) even after I have closed the app. Annoying. This did not happen on the OP8, ever.
Appreciate 6 of the 7 above are software issues and this might be a ColorOS thing and needs tidying up. If anyone has answers to the above that can help me, please do let me know.
I like my phone. Is it significantly better than my OP8? No... better camera but on a day to day, that's it. Again this comes down to what people use their phones for. I am not a gamer so the new SD8.1 will be of use to others.
Thanks all
I trust user reviews more than the mainstream glowing it's great reviews...
All Androids need to be optimized to get the best performance. Workarounds need to be found for issues.
Try modifying the notification settings for Pod Addict. For badly behaving apps I will turn off notifications for them completely... or just take out the trash
