TongHai? (MST786) Stuck in boot mode, found metal washer inside unit - Android Head-Units

So I have a TongHai unit (I believe). it looks like this unit:

One my way to work one morning, I was listening to the radio and was about to check Waze or switch to Rocket Player and noticed it was still in boot mode (playing audio from the last radio station that I was tuned to), showing my Chevy Logo.
I didn't root it, or do anything like that, it was just like that when I started the car that morning (1-1/2 to 2 yr old unit).
I don't know what software was on it. I have pics of the unit and the inside, but I can't post pics, or links to pics yet).
I got a paperclip and pressed the reset button. That just lost my radio station, so now all I heard is static.
I said screw it, and pulled the unit out to see if there was something inside.
When I removed the unit, I could hear something moving around.
upon removing the cover and the DVD player, I saw a metal nut on the main board.
It appears to have come from one of the cooling fan's mounting screws, as there is only one screw and nut holding the fan in place now.
I don't see any burn/shorts on the board, nor do I smell anything out of the norm.
It does have the ARM MST786 chip
I found this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Tonghai_Create_AN-21_U
and tried to load system version 2.8.6.
It look like it loaded, but I am still in reboot loop.
Although now it isn't showing my Chevy Logo, it is showing an android logo.
Don't know where to go from here

were you able to fix this issue? I have the same problem with mine. can you please help
[email protected]

Nope. I haven't spent any more time on it.
I keep wanting to look at it some more, but just don't have the time.

I am trying to work this through, I think its and issue with a corrupt logo. just guessing and reading from other forums. please do let me know if you have a solution. I will keep trying and post any successful stories.

I will once I get back to it. Please keep me informed if you find out anything as well.
I don't think my issue was a corrupt logo.
The only thing I can remember that I did that day was turn the car off and back on real quick (with the door open, which cuts power to the radio). I didn't notice it was stuck in boot mode until I was at a red light as the radio was playing.

A metal washer dangling inside and shorting various connections on the motherboard is a sure way to damage one or more chips. These units get stuck during the animation logo simply because some driver fails to load due to a damaged corresponding hardware or you get kernel panic. The only hope to find what's wrong it being able to boot in verbose mode or somehow examine the boot log, so you can see exactly what is happening. I am not sure how to do that though.

rebooting/freezeing problem

i have a tmobile wing. it randomly freezes while using it, fades to white then off, turns off
sometimes only way for it to come back on i have to take out battery and put it back.
when i turn it on sometimes itll loop the tmobile thing, maybe make it to the windows mobile green page then turn off and try again.
ive reinstalled the tmobile rom, installed open touch, still the same thing.
i read about the memory card having a loop porblem so i took it out, still. tried installing total commander and renaming the file but it wont let me rename it.
thought the screen ribbon or another wasnt in good so i took it part and made sure i put everything in good.
maybe the fact that a pin that touches the battery it broken? see how they make an arc or so. and the 1 is broken. is that the problem maybe?

That may well be the case. The first thing to try is to plug the phone to the charger and see if the phone works properly. If it does the next thing would be to get a new battery.
I had the same problem and it was solved by installing a new battery.
Best of Luck
yes it does do it while plugged into charger. a little less though.
and ive noticed that when i try to fix the back cover, doesnt fit right so it pops off on 1 corner, i take it off and put it back on tight, from me pressing down the phone likes to freeze and reboot.
ive been thinking about a new battery. i guess ill go ahead and get one then.

[Q] Hd2 having seizures!!!

Hello,
I've had my hd2 for about 6 months now and about a month ago it started randomly crashing. I'd have to take the battery out and reset, but when i'd start about 1 out of ever 4 times it would show the inital launch screen, but the numbers in the bottom left would never come. So i'd have to remove the battery again and reboot.
Then it started happening more frequently. Random restarts, crashes, and the phone didnt like to boot at all most of the time.
Last night, it gets really bad and i am able to get into the phone once. After that it freezes always when you initially power on, you see the boot splash, but no numbers in the bottom left, no moving forward.
AND NOW when i power on, the screen stays black, and it just vibrates and will not stop at all unless i remove battery. In fact, as soon as i pop the battery in, it starts doing this.
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anybody
Try doing a HARD RESET.
If that does not help it means you have a damaged HD2 motherboard, try contacting T-Mobile or HTC for a replacement.
I'm 100% sure it is a heat problem. I do have the same problem. With my HD2 disassembled I checked that "freezing" the motherboard make my phone boot without a problem... and it worked properly as long as it stayed cool.
I'm trying to replace the motherboard by myself as I do not live within the USA...
Hope it helps.
Same exact problem here, although it happens less often for me. How do we keep the motherboard "cool" so it won't happen? or is this a sign of motherboard going bad soon and it'll be replaced sooner or later??
I think it is a sign of a dying phone... or at least a dying motherboard.
Maybe (just a theory) these are signs of a "cold joint" similar to what happens to the Xbox 360... and the way to fix it is to "reflow" the motherboard... but we need a more technical point of view on this one...
Thanks for the replies. I have tried the hard reset, but it just vibrates with the screen off still, no success in any attempts to do anything. I guess i will have to contact htc since i did not purchase the phone from tmobile.
I did notice before this happened that the phone was getting hot after even a few minutes of use. So i have to assume it is a damaged motherboard or whatever it is inside of my precious hd2 that makes it bring me joy.
Now i am joyless and sad.
Back to the old 2g iphone
*cries*
Im having the same problem too,its not even 3 months yet since i got my phone.can i still have tmo replace my phone?istill need to flash it back to the original shipped ROM.right now ive been flashing it with diff custom roms and still having the reboot issue.

[GUIDE] Nexus 7 Motherboard Pin Repair (WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC)

I've had my 32GB Nexus 7 2012 (grouper) since it was released. I love it, or well, I did. Until about 12 months ago, the WiFi reception and speed plummeted into what may as well be hell in the stone ages. I couldn't find the problem. I thought it was something to do with software, as I had recently upgraded to a newer version of Android at the time. So, I dismissed it, and waited patiently for a fix. Nothing. So, it has been sitting there since KitKat was released, doing nothing.
Until now that is! I decided that I didn't want to look at it doing nothing anymore, so I researched far past page 2 of Google (Desperate times people, desperate times...) and I found this gem!
I strongly recommend you DO NOT perform that guide. It can damage your device even more. Instead, please use the guide below:
YOU WILL NEED:
Small knife or Electronics opening tool
Soldering Iron (Sorry)
Solder
Basic soldering skills
[URL="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11400.m1842.l5919/7?euid=f15f56b658ee4efebf0c8f34c466567e&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fpayments.ebay.co.uk%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewPaymentStatus%26transId%3D472422032026%26itemId%3D390820734137%26qu%3D1%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AL%3AOC%3AGB%3A5919&exe=11193&ext=27012&sojTags=exe=exe,ext=ext]Contact Fingers (As many that are broken on your device)[/URL]
Right, lets get started...
(Oh yeah, and to make sure you can't sue me if you mess up, I am not liable for any damage you cause to you or the device you're performing this guide on. This may also void the warranty on the device you are performing this guide on)
BEFORE YOU BEGIN!!!
Turn off your device
Ensure that your device is unplugged from any power source
1) Open the Nexus 7 carefully.
2) Find the broken contact(s). The red circle in the picture below annotates where one of the WiFi contacts is broken.

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3) Put the replacement contact finger(s) in place
4) Solder the new contact(s) onto the motherboard ensuring that the solder is only touching that contact
It's important that the solder is only touching one piece of metal, as otherwise the circuit will be shorted and your device may be damaged.
If you have messed up the soldering, there are tools to remove the solder, or you can re-heat it and try to wipe/scrape it off. The tool you want heats up, and sucks up the solder off the circuit board.
5) Leave the device for at least five minutes
6) Once you have left the device, check to see if the angle of the new contact is the same as the other ones. If not, gently bend it into place.
7) Place the casing back onto the Nexus 7, and press to lock it into place
8) Boot up your device
And that's it, you're done!!!! If this guide helped you, press thanks, and if you're feeling generous, donate

Broken Link
Hi,
The link you have provided is no longer valid, I just thought that I would see what I could find and this is one of them:
hypertext protocol:worldwidewebdotdigikeydotcom/en/product-highlightslashwslashwurth-electronicsslashwe-secf-emi-contact-fingers
I can not be sure which one to choose. I see one very similar to what my N7 has just not 100% certain that it would be correct one and or fit.
Regards,
T
how does this apply to NFC? my NFC is not working and i opened the case, saw one pin was bended (NFC section PIN), tried to put it back up and it broke. You think that by fixing the pin will it work again?

Why not? If that was the reason and you rectify it, it should work.

Screen not displaying correctly (Green block lines, moving down the screen) - Fix???

Phone Specs
Stock O.S (5.0.1)
Rooted (and as a result, has voided the warranty)
I9505 Version
Battery in phone is Stock Battery
What Happened
I was using Instagram on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9505), after leaving it for a few minutes. Upon returning and pressing the home button, the screen began to fill with green block lines moving down the screen (as on the video).
Current Issues
When I turn my phone on, the center of the screen is filled with green block lines moving down the screen (as on the video). Rather than showing my installed apps etc.
The same occurs when I try to use recovery and download modes
Videos and Screenshots
I have uploaded a video and screenshots of what my phone currently looks like on boot, after the above:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=nlCvsjQEqkY
I've checked, there are no marks or damage to the screen.
And upon unscrewing the phone and looking at the motherboard etc., there doesn't seem to be any damage to the hardware either as below:

Just because you see no physical damage to the motherboard does not mean that the motherboard isn't the culprit. Another gentleman was having a similar screen issue and ended up reflowing (applying heat so the existing solder melts) the GPU in an attempt to fix it. I don't recall if he did get it fixed or not, but whether he did or didn't isn't relevant. What is relevant is that you clearly have a hardware issue here. Take the phone in for service.

Have you had experience with this fault before, do you know what the exact culprit is and how to repair? Thanks

There could be multiple causes for the problem you're having. That's why I recommended taking it in for service.
Although I'm glad someone has responded to my thread, you haven't actually told me anything of any real usefulness. Instead you've just told me to get it fixed (which is why I've came to this forum, so I could be told how to fix it myself)
My primary reasoning for coming to this forum, was to be pointed in the right direction when it comes to fixing the hardware i.e. replace this or that cable etc.
If you could help in that regard, this would be fantastic
No, I told you to take it to the service center, because they can pinpoint exactly what is causing the problem. Otherwise you're tossing darts blindfolded. You're guessing where the bullseye is and hoping you hit it. In short, it's not something you can fix yourself, unless you happen to have a solder reflow workstation.

I replaced the battery and the charging port and after putting it together a perfect radius of blue has formed on the right side of the screen. Touchscreen is still working just fine on the whole screen. Any suggestions for how to fix this? There isn't an cracks on the screen. Any suggestions? Is it possible I bent a pin on any of the ribbons? Could someone point out which ribbons go to the screen hardware? Maybe I can get a magnifying glass and figure out which ribbons needs replaced. Thanks for the help.

Go look in one of the many bootloop threads.... but not here- this thread is not related at all with the BLOD.
Ok, finally saw your photo. It does appear to be a cable issue, unfortunately it would likely be the screen cable in which case you would have to replace the entire screen to fix it.

The black cable that is only partially exposed on one end?
Not sure which one you're talking about. The one on the right of the motherboard that goes under the battery is for the LCD I would also check that no filters around the connection have been damaged.
