Hi, I bought an unlocked the mobile note 3, rooted with the 4.4.2 and I want to get lollipop. So I downloaded the latest release for n900t from sammobile to install with Odin but I have a question. If I upgrade in this way I'll lost the free sim unlocked? Sorry if is it a stupid question
When unlocking a phone, there are usually two separate things this can mean; either an unlocked bootloader or an unlocked SIM. Both are unlocked (via software/code) on a hardware level, if I'm not mistaken, as I've heard of folks unlocking their SIMs and flashing all sorts of ROMs with no issues. If it's all the same, unless you're flashing to a firmware that's not downgrade-able, you can also make a full backup, in case it turns out that the flash *does* re-lock it; That way, you can always revert back to your backup.

Hi guys one of my friends bought a S4 in the US, It's AT&T locked SGH-I337 so can't use it with sim in our country (South Africa)We have two models of S4 here, the I9500&I9505. Was wondering what the right steps is to get the phone working? Must I root the phone and flash custom Rom & kernel or just unlock sim card? I'm not new to Rooting or flashing Roms but haven't fidled with carrier locked phones before. And is it possible to use custom Roms from At&t in other countries thanks in advance [emoji2]

The Sgh-i337 is basically the same as the gt-i9505 EXCEPT for ATT locking the bootloader on that model.
You CAN Sim unlock it so you can insert your Sim into it. You will have to reach it a bit though. It helps if you know what firmware is installed on the phone. If it is MDB, MDL, or MF3 it would be easier to do I believe. Either way look for the threads about unlocking.
If you have NEWER firmware then there are separate threads for it, and it will more than likely need to be rooted, flash a older modem, then perform the Sim unlock from the menu. If you cannot find the correct post I can help look for it later.
Just reply back with WHAT firmware and Baseband you have installed on the phone and we should be able to help you further.
If you do have MDB or MDL firmware do NOF update it...

Thanks for reply ,I have NC1 firmware and I used Method 3 on this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595457 .SUCCESS!
Could you recommend a modem I could try other than MF3 as the signal isn't that great ?

Not sure which would work best for your area. You can download and try any/all of them until you find one that works best. You can switch back and forth with no issues without worries
Does the Russian lollipop update for the note 3 include an English option & can I root the Russian lollipop update for the note 3 & will the Russian lollipop update work any note 3's including the Verizon 1 as long as you can root it & put a Verizon radio on it?

I'm defiantly sure your phone would go straight into all Russian every word. So I would not recommend unless you can read Russian as good as english. Or you will be very upset. Be careful.

So there's no way after install to change the language from Russian to English?

I am in the uk with Verizon note 3 on vodafone network. Any one know why exactly I cant flash n9005 firmware as internal components are the same. Both cpu and gpu are the same. Both 32gb rom and 3 gb ram. Both use 13mp camera and both use 802 wifi. Same bluetooth. Same screen size and resolution. Are they not the same build? Not being a verizon customer I have no need for all the stupid bloatware. Not worried about root but I am interested in the faster and more reliable performance of European lollipop firmware. Have verizon done something or are there other reasons?

Because the Verizon phones are locked to only allow Verizon firmware (ROM) to be loaded on them.

Is it locked from the bootloader because my model shows an unlocked padlock during boot and says custom. Does that mean mine may be a developer edition in which case could I flash n9005 firmware?
If your bootloader is unlocked then yes you do have a developer edition and can indeed flash any rom you wanted to it. The only ones that have to wait are people with non developer edition note 3's cause they are locked to phone carrier roms by the bootloaders
Hey raze. Do you know how I can check if I'm developer edition?
Your model number should be SM-N900VMKEVZW instead of SM-N900V in the about phone section of your phone I think. I think that's the only way to tell if you have a developer edition or not.
What's the difference between a factory unlocked note 3 and a developer edition note 3
Apparently the developer edition comes with the unlocked bootloader so you won't void the warranty if you mess up the phone but unlocked version you have to unlock the bootloader yourself as it is capable of being unlocked but you can void warranty by doing so.
But shouldn't the factory unlocked version be the same way?

The factory VZW note 3 can not be unlocked at this time. The recovery can be changed so that you can use safestrap but the bootloader remains locked.

no you still void the warranty it is just the bootloader is unlocked and you only have a warranty through samsung not verizon...
And the retail version cant be unlocked unless some type of blessing from above happens.
and if you have a dev version under the battery it will say developer model and unless you bought it specifically as a dev unit you likely dont have a dev unit. they are 700 direct from verizon.
So both the dev & factory unlocked versions are able to be rooted at this time because they both have a unlocked bootloader right? & retail cannot be rooted right?

what no how did you get that?
ONLY the dev unit and t-mobile and sprint have unlocked bootloaders. also if memory serves the verizon dev unit is still on a jellybean bootloader neither verizon nor samsung have provided updates and loading the retail bootloader turns the units to retail units.
the Retail of verizon and AT&T have locked bootloaders and as of 4.4.4 there is no root and no hope...
Factory unlocked is a verizon model and is sim unlocked only which is what factory unlocked means that from the factory it can go to any compatible carrier..
Hi guys,
i've got an oportunity to buy a SGSN4. It comes from USA with the AT&T simlock. Is it possible to install a custom rom on this (i dont care about the warranty) with european language? Is it possible also to unlock this phone to use it in every network?
Waiting for your reply, thanks a lot
The att Note 4 has a locked bootloader. Only a limited root is available currently. It resets every reboot and supposedly disappears randomly between reboots. A permanent root is still trying to be obtained, but it isn't clear as to if it will ever be obtained or not.
No root means that you can't install ANY roms or kernels. There aren't even any for the ATT Note 4 because we don't have permanent root yet.
You CAN unlock the phone though. I don't know how personally though, but it can be done. Go to the ATT Note 4 forums and read through there.

I'm new here but have been following xda for years. I'm not new to rooting or flashing custom roms but after a few days of searching I can't find an answer to the following question.
I have and unlocked Verizon Note 4 n910v running Android 4.4.4 on the Cricket (AT&T) network. If I'm going to install a custom rom, do I need to find a rom for Verizon or for AT&T? Also can anyone clear up the rumor about a locked bootloader on this device? Any help would be awesome!
If you have already unlocked the bootloader on the 910V, I'm not too sure what rumor you are referencing regarding a locked bootloader ::
As far as roms go, it's a Verizon device so you need Verizon roms and firmware.

For ROMs, you must install verizon ROMs because the phone uses verizon-customized hardware.
It is no rumor that this device comes with a locked bootloader. However, thanks to the talented devs here at XDA, there is now an official way to unlock the bootloader; but you have to update to Lollipop 5.1.1 and BPA1 baseband.
I'm using a T-mobile sim in my verizon note 4 without unlocking the bootloader on lollipop and BPA1, so you shouldn't worry about your sim not working after updating. Have fun!
you have a misunderstanding of unlocked. what you are referencing is that you are using the factory unlocked gsm portion of the modem in the verizon model phone. you are NOT bootloader unlocked as you are still on 4.4! if you want to truly unlock it (as in the bootloader) then you will need to upgrade to 5.1.1 (BPA1) via odin. There are several tutorials on how to achieve this, and unlocking (including one that i wrote on the main thread).
to answer your question about using a verizon rom or a t-mobile rom, you can try any snapdragon rom that you would like, but there is NO GUARANTEE that they will work as each developer compiles with or without certain components. what ever you do, do NOT try to flash other carrier (at&t, t-mobile, sprint, etc.) firmware. BIG NO NO! although you claim to have experience with rooting and flashing roms, i would advise you to ALWAYS stick with the carrier variation of whatever device you are working with until you get a better understanding of the different components to a phone i.e. bootloader, modem, rom, etc. xda-university has a nice explanation of these things. so go read up on these things. if you need help, feel free to ask.
Thank you for everyone's advice. Upgrade to lollipop via Odin and bpa1. Got it. As far as custom rom goes, use a Verizon carrier custom rom.
I have a note 3 with stock lollipop rom model n900w8 which is the canadian note 3 version. I just want to know if it will be sim locked again if I installed a custom rom like magma or darklord?
PS. I don't know if it was sim locked before, I just got it sim unlocked already.
Additional question: can I just go back to stock kitkat from stock lollipop without rooting?
How was it sim unlocked? With an unlock code, the phone should be permanently unlocked regardless of flashing a custom ROM or upgrading bootloaders and modems.

Most likely it will never re-lock itself
Every phone that I got from a carrier and subsequently unlocked via code, including the n900w8, or a free method (i.e. Samsung note 2, s3, s4) has never relocked after flashing a stock or custom ROM.
