Hi,
I was posting this on android forums so i thought that I should post here also for those who does not check all forums
This is for accessing any kind of file over local network
This is what I am doing on Samsung Galaxy
1) I installed cifs manager ( you have to download cifs kernel module along with that which I attached).
2) Then I shared my drive on my computer
3) Mount the directory on phone using cifs manager
4) Now you can use any application on phone to access the mounted files. Video files will run like you are running from phone
I tried allshare but that was tooo slow and does not run all formats. This method can be even used with rockplayer which plays everything
Any question let me know as this is working great on stock rom.
Given the MTP limitation on the GT 7.7, the only "stock" way to get data onto the Tab is via Kies.
A much more elegant solution is to install "Samba Filesharing" (free app on Android Market) which turns the GT 7.7 into a full SMB server that you can mount -- I did so with my MacBook Air. You can then copy files across via WiFi (no USB cable!).
You may need to perform the SD card hack listed elsewhere in this forum to write to the SD card when it's mounted (even via SMB)...I didn't have any luck until I did that.
Of course there are other alternatives such as Dropbox (or my fave Sugarsync) but these require a sync to the cloud and then a download, which both eat into your broadband data (caps) if you're worried about such things.
Just thought I would share!
Why not use AirDroid? Imo the best tool out there. And you can manage SMS, contacts,... everything too with it!
^ I tried AD and don't like the web interface. The nice thing about Samba is that it's integrated into the Finder so you can use the native file copy tools. Makes batch copying a breeze.
Thanks for this info, I always assumed that the Tab7.7 also had the debug mode where I can just plug it in like the Galaxy phones, any links to that mounting options for the Sd card?
adb push anyone?

Unfortunately not. MTP mode only. If you are on Windows, you can still use explorer to copy, but on Macs you must use Kies...which is why Samba is a better option for me.
Id prefer a file copy over wireless so I need to know how to use that Samba thing..
ES file manager allows you to administer files from the tab and access network shares including streaming 1080p mkv files. Pretty nifty, but doesn't mount the tab.
What's the speed of "Samba Filesharing" ?
I use DooBlou Wifi file explorer (was one of Amazon.com's free apps of the day) to dump files from my Mac to the Tab. You have to be rooted to write to the external SD card, as with other non-bundled apps, however.
adb push
adb wifi
webkey
ES File Explorer
The USB OTG feature is ROM-side or Kernel-side feature ?
Right now I'm running PA 2.54 with M-Kernel Plus a11 and did the "Jay's Recipe for Buttery Goodness" .
Before this I was purelly 4.1.2 stock and USB OTG was working.I used to connect a flash drive and an external 1 TB HDD and access (read-only) the data via an app. called Nexus Media Importer and even trough ES File Explorer too.
Now it doesn't work anymore. The flash drive has a red light on it which blinks and now when I attach it it doesn't even turn On anymore. It used to do on Stock.
It has been stated countless times that Stickmount does not work with 4.2...That is until today when Stickmount was updated by the dev. It works now with today's update.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that PA 2.54 is based on 4.1.2 , so it's the same base I had when I was stock.
Today after trying Nexus Media Importer and ES File Explorer, I tried Stickmount too.
I'm afraid you didn't understood my question.
Hey, i just bought a Nexus Player, but i've question :
I can read my USB drive ES File explorer, but i can't found it on KODI/VLC ? Why ?
or how it's possible to do that ?
Thanks you.
edtion : after update to Android M, i can see my usb drive on my apps ... but only FAT32 is supported :'(
I've found an app to fix Usb otg not mounting issue in CM roms !

I have flyme os and tried with root explorer and mixplorer too. Says mounted but USB otg tab is not shown. Es file explorer shows the option but I don't wanna use ea. I installed stickmount too but again not shown. How can I fix it
