Hey, what do I need to do to run my 6P on Google Fi? I ordered a Fi SIM card and I plan to use it for the month of June while I am in Europe (since VZW international rates are insane). Obviously I have to swap SIMs but I thought I saw a seperate Fi dialer and a few other tweaks needed to ensure all is working well.
Just don't want to have to figure this out at the last minute.
I am running stock OTA with custom recovery (TWRP) and Root (SuperSU). No other real mods...

As far as I know, all you need to do is download the projectFI app while you have an active internet connection (wifi is fine) and the app will configure the settings for you. ProjectFI currently just ships the phone with factory settings and the sim card, so you hook up to wifi and download the app and pop in the sim. Should work for you from there once you have signed into the app with your gmail account. Setup is much more simple than doing manual provider settings from an unlocked phone.

Hi everyone long time reader and I finally got an account. I read through the Sprint section and successfully followed imbmiller's domestic sim unlock guide. I got the sim unlocked but the problem is using a rom like Cyanogenmod, the versions are hard coded to a particular brand. If I download the Sprint release, I dont see any data usage registered (even though it downloads things fine, the data usage keeps saying no data was used), so I was wondering if its ok to install a Tmo rom on a Sprint phone. They are basically the same hardware, right? The TMO rom will simply not use the CDMA bands from sprint, but other than that it should be safe? I have already experimented with this, flashing entire tmobile stock firmware and stock rom on my phone. It actually booted up fine but once it started, I kept getting "com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" errors and it was unusable. Later I tried a combination of Tmobile stock rom with a Sprint Kernel and the phone was usuable for a while, and then started crashing constantly. I dont know if it was because I didn't have a working sim card at the time or what, but I am warey of experimenting right now because I must have overwritten the cache/system/firmware partitions at least 20 times and I'm worried about the limited write capacity of emmc.
Now I checked Cyanogenmod's releases and it seems they all use the same kernel, but the rom is just tweaked for each carrier. So to sum up my questions: would I be right to expect no problems in flashing the Tmobile version of CM on my Sprint GS4? And can I flash other Tmo roms on my GS4? Should I expect tmobile firmware to be compatible with the sprint phone, since sprint only has extra features on top of what tmobile phones use?
I would just install the Google play edition like I have on my spring S4. I use T-Mobile Sim and get hspa+ speeds.

Does that really work? When we install the Google Play Edition Rom for Sprint Galaxy S4 Model #SPH-L720
it unlocks domestic GSM function for T-Mobile??
No, you still have to do the SIM unlock separately. But if you then pop in a T-Mobile Sim and install that ROM, according to that it should give service on T-Mobile.
I am about to purchase this amazing phone, however I would like to use it in my country on GSM network. I want to know whether this particular model has factory GSM unlock like Verizon version or it needs to be SIM unlocked manually.
Also, if it needs to be unlocked separately, does any method available to do the same?
I looked around on XDA but could not find a clear answer.
Thanks..

dirty santa unlocks the uicc, flash the us996 rom or a aosp rom and put in your sim.
otherwise using a cdma phone on a gsm network isnt the best ideal and you should by the unlocked international variant to avoid these issues in the first place. Why buy a carrier phone when you arent using on that carrier? Seems like your trying to go a shady route to me..

Hello, i was using your magisk rom on sprint network but i decided to flash the deodexed stock version that i downloaded from the dirty santa root method since i also have verizon. The issues with that Rom is that it doesnt read the external sd card and it did not get 4g/LTE. It took me a long time and reading to finally 4g and internet working as well as the hot spot tether by replacing the apn.xml file with one i found online. But is there a way you can share a working kernel that fixes the sd card error issue on this deodexed stock rom? Thank you man you're awesome!

If ur using both. Id suggest trying dualboot patcher to swtich between the 2. You should flash a vzw rom with its matching vzw kernel to get it 100%.
Id try the angry albatross aka warewolf kernel or the konverged kernel as they are the most universal.
The kernels i use are for sprint and wouldnt mesh with the us996 rom. Try a Vs995 rom and see how it acts. Thats where you should be pulling the parts you need.
But sd card shouldnt be a issue on any rom as far as i know. May be a sd card error.

Dual boot patcher? ? i actually dont want it on sprint lol i have an lg g5 for my sprint account. I just wish i could get sd card reader working and thank you for the advice. I did try the warewolf kernel a few weeks ago before i got the 4g internet to work on this rom but performance sucked so i went back to magisk.
This is what im running on my ls997 currently working on verizon with hot spot enabled.
Put ur sd card into pc. And run the sd repair and put back in
Edit:
Try a Vzw rom fully. Us996 is unlocked rom and is gsm based.. Do VS995 rom.

My sd card is not corrupted. It reads fine from the file manager on cwm and any other rom. Is that a software for repairing sd cards what you are suggesting? And i am afraid to try any other roms that are not ls997, i dont want to brick or be stock on a firmware that is going to give me more bugs then what i have.

I would try it lol.. U have twrp backups and ur hust flashing a dif rom.Worst it won't boot but they are on us996 bootloader also. Shouldn't be any diff. May need to find somone with modem backup to get their radios.
Give me a min. Ill go find a vzw rom and flash it on my dualboot lol
You could also flash the rr aosp rom. Its nice. It would be better fit to run a dif carrier also.

As far as the picture messaging which is the second issue, Looking on google it sounds like it has to do with the apns-conf.xml file. Someone said they deleted the cbs parts of the file but if i do it and save it. The rest of the apns disappear from apn setting under settings. Here is the info i have on my .xml file

How did you manage to get 4g on the US996 rom? I am having the same issue with that rom.
@Ablazelemon2 Just several posts below is my short guide - please try it - you should be able to use non Sprint SIM.
Oooo Boost...
Ok. I hope Im posting this in the correct area. Please forgive me if I am not.
I purchased a refurbished LG V20 LS997. It's a Sprint model obviously.
It has a clean esn. Verified through the Sprint portal.
I am trying to get it onto the Boost network.
I previously had my Sprint LG G3 LS990 running flawlessly on Boost.
The V20 should work just as well.
My issue that I keep running into is that the V20 I have still has a SIM number attached to it. However, the device did not come with a SIM card at all.
Sprint WILL NOT free the SIM number from the device in order for me to insert and use a Boost SIM.
When I attempt to swap the device myself I am prompted with an error message about the SIM.
When I call Boost to get this process taken care of, they run into the same error.
Now I am aware that the V20 is not present on the list of accepted sprint devices.
However, there is a Boost mobile variant of the V20 directly through LG.
So I am CERTAIN this will work on the Boost network.
Only thing holding the process back is the SIM that is locked to the device.
Does anyone have any idea what I should do here?
I am lost.
Thank you in advance!

Check the software version.. If it is zv5 then you can unlock it from the hidden menu.. What you can do and what is available for you is dependant on the software version... If you are on an older software version do not upgrade to the newest since you will not have root options..

Thank you for replying!
I have the ZVB Software Version on the device.
Aside form that, I got it activated this evening at a local Boost store. It seems as though all that needed to happen was to get a proper SIM card for it. The employee used a "Bring Your Own PHONE SIM Card Activation Kit". It has an orange package vs. the white packaging for the incompatible SIM I had purchased from the other Boost store I had gone to.
The process was rather painless and took only a few minutes to get the phone up and running on the network.
It cost me $30 and a small amount of patients.
This phone is phenomenal and I am very thankful for the employee that got it working for me.
Thank you again ScottieRotten.
If anyone has any questions about getting the Sprint LG V20 LS997 onto the Boost network, feel free to ask me anything and I will gladly help.

Interesting. My wife used to be a Boost customer. I bought her a LS997 about a year ago, and I intended to just swap her old phone and stay with Boost. However, Boost insisted that they could not activate the V20 on their network. We therefore ported her number to Twigby, and the V20 has been working great on Twigby ever since. Boost lost a long term customer due to their stupid BYOD restrictions.
Note that this discussion is unrelated to the OP though. Boost and Twigby both operate on the Sprint network, so no SIM unlock is needed for them.

Yes it was a bit of hoop jump but as long as the proper SIM is used, you can use just about any Sprint phone on Boost. They swore up and down that "it wasn't a compatible device" but I just insisted they try until they did. And it worked!
Thanks!

Hi there,
I am prepared to go to an older version of Android. If I buy this tablet, will I be able to unlock it and get away from using Verizon?
Thank you.
Or even roll it back a version on Android?
Is there a Android 6.0 custom rom on XDA that I could use with this device in order to unlock it?
You can straight buy this tablet from Verizon like I did and it works great on my data only Google Fi sim which is TMobile LTE. Would like to root it myself.

I lately got my hands on the Zenpad Z8s but could not unlock it with my non-verizon sim. Would it be possible to root the device and use LTE on sim other than verizon? Where do I get the ROM for the task? Please enlighten.
Using the AT&T H910 outside of the US. Does that mean I will never get any update?
I heard that an active AT&T sim card is required for software or system update. Is it possible that I buy an AT&T prepaid sim card from ebay and use it solely for system update outside of the US?
Yes. As long as you are on an AT&T network. Roaming on another provider will not work. You have to have an AT&T SIM *AND* be on the AT&T network.
The other very LONG way, is to root your phone, and then flash the latest firmware. If you don't want to stay rooted, then you can flash the latest full stock firmware which will take you back to stock.

I have this issue as well, unlocked AT&T version on Cricket, I bought a GoPhone SIM hoping that just putting it in the phone would work, but it needs to be active.
Okay thanks for your replies. I guess there is nothing more I can do about it then.

If using 900ds on Cricket, will cricket push updates or can one use the att SIM trick? Ty
Hey guys, I could use a little help here. I've done some firmware flashing on phones years ago, so I'm not a total noob, just haven't needed to in a long time.
Anyway, I recently picked up an unlocked Sprint S7 edge (was a really good deal) and I'm trying to use it with Metro now. The issue is this. If I set the network to GSM mode, I can make phone calls just fine, but data is totally not functioning. If I switch it to LTE/CDMA mode, the data works beautifully, but I can't make or receive any phone calls. It just instantly hangs up if I try to dial out or goes to voicemail if someone calls me.
I've activated the IMEI with my carrier and verified that the phone is indeed unlocked. I'm guessing this is just some annoying Sprint bug put in there to make the phone not work right on other providers. Any ideas what needs to be done? Do I need to run a third-party ROM, flash a different modem to it? Something else?
I really appreciate any tips here.

Hi Ivpre,
Thanks for responding. The phone is running Software version G935PVPU6BRD2, baseband version G935PVPU6BRD2, it's HW revision 7.0 and Android 7.0. Kernel version is 3.18.31-12623509.
I've tried using a few SM-G935U ROMs but they all have failed so far and left the phone in a boot loop. Only by reflashing a Sprint ROM am I able to successfully flash it.
I assume I'm just not selecting or finding a ROM that the same or newer version, as I've read about the downgrade issues with the bootloader. Any idea how to match one? I'd be fine with pretty much any ATT/T-Mobile/Metro ROM since that should fix my issue for the time being. A factory unlocked ROM would be nice though.
I have a T-Mobile Sim (same network Metro uses) in my unlocked Sprint S7 Edge. Network mode is set to Automatic and everything works fine.
Did you Add the APN for T-Mobile? I had to add the T-Mobile APN https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-28006
And the ALSO add a second APN named internet, with no other values changed. The 2nd one is the one selected, not sure why, but it works that way.
I would like to flash a T-Mobile Rom or the U Rom but they are on Baseband 4, which will not work since our phones are now on Baseband 6(5th number from the right in the firmware version.)
Did you try changing the APN settings?

So you are using the Sprint firmware on T-Mobile? Everything works well? I'm thinking of jumping to cricket this summer, but one phone is stuck on b5 (the other is still rocking 4), so I was a little worried. So basically you just put in the SIM card and added the APN's?

Yes it was working fine with a T-Mobile Sim card and edited APN's. It is now back on Sprint because T-Mobile coverage is poor/non existent inside my work. I will be porting one of my SERO lines to T-Mobile but keeping one with Sprint. T-Mobile only uses Band 2 and 4 where I live, If you live somewhere that has band 12, it may not be unlocked in the Sprint Firmware.
