Hello guys. I'm not new to the rooting scene nor flashing bit I'm coming up a bit short on root when it comes to the SM928F.
I was on an EE rom and couldn't bare waiting any longer for the release times so I flashed the BTU marshmallow as at least then I'll get the OTA's if I ever needed them. Downside to this is I'm sure CF hasn't done an update to the root method we used for Lollipop.
So my question is - what root methods are there for the sm929f on the BTU marshmallow rom. Also what ROM's are available that are 'decent' in the eyes of others if root and custom recovery are available to me? I miss CM but I can see no mention of the s6 edge+ for CM roms.

Hello,
I really want to root my G900W8 Galaxy S5 which currently has Lollipop, all I really need is root I would like to keep the original Rom. I've been reading a lot on this forum but most options need you too install a new rom as I understand it. I really don't care about nox either as I'm out of the warranty any how. Can you please provide a quick guide or direct me to one that would be best.
Flash this with ODIN 3.10.6
http://download.chainfire.eu/406/CF-Root1/CF-Auto-Root-kltecan-kltevl-smg900w8.zip
So flashing that will I still be at Lollipop 5.0 or does this downgrade me to 4.4.2 I would prefer to stay with 5.0 if possible. Also do I still need to install Super SU and gaps?
Yes it will stay on LP
No it doesn't downgrade you to KK
No you don't need SuperSU, CF Auto Root installs that for you
Why would you need Gapps? You're not flashing a custom ROM
There are no more steps needed or I would have included them in the instructions on how to root your phone - wouldn't be much good if I missed steps out or flashed your phone to a completely different version of Android when you asked specifically how to root Lollipop...
But you know, if you took some time to read some of the thousands of threads with all this info in them, you'd know all this
Shouldn't be messing about with things before you've done some self-educating, or your next thread will be asking how to unbrick your S5
I was already well experienced with Android (Different device) when I got my S5, but I didn't start rooting or messing until I'd spent a few weeks reading a shed load of threads in the S5 forums, until I was 100% sure I knew what I was doing
Word of Advice: Go find the EFS partition backup thread before doing anything else
Thanks so much for the help
Okay so I'm fairly new to the forums but I'm somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to rooting and flashing custom Roms.. At least one the Galaxy S3. So I now have a note 3 and I'd like to root and install a custom recovery and then from there a custom Rom after a little more research.. Because.. Eff touch Wiz. Now I got the note from a friend and it's been fully updated knox hasn't been enabled but has been fully updated and I believe the same thing for the security policies. Now this is where my question comes in I found a method on google (galaxynote3root.com) to root and install the recovery I just wanna know if anyone can confirm this method is safe with the new updates and what not? I'd rather not brick the phone obviously lol anyways the phone model is sm-n9008w unlocked but was a Rogers phone.. Android 5.0 stock firmware and recovery knox 2.3 any help would be appreciated
Which note 3 do you have? Are you sure it's not the sm-n900w8? Depending on the ROM you install, you may need to update to the latest bootloader and modem.
Edit: read your post again. Since stock LP is on the phone, Knox has been installed and the phone would be running the doc4 or doh1 firmware.
The simplest way to root would be to install TWRP and flash supersu from TWRP. You're going to trip the knox counter from 0x0 to 0x1. Also, make sure reactivation lock has not been enabled.
I ordered the AT&T unlocked S5 Active off Swappa from a seller that resells phones from corporate usage. It came with 4.4.2 and some modifications that lead me to believe the company does did not permit upgrades. That said, it was hell to get MTP working on it and it did not read any microSD cards (yes I troubleshot plenty). They offered to replace it and so I have a Verizon S5 (not Active) on the way instead, as I'm hoping for more official upgrade support (Marshmallow this month??).
Aaanyway, regarding root, updates, tips/tricks, etc, any suggestions?
I'm coming from the AT&T Moto X 2013 but have a good deal of experience with roots, mods, etc.

Honestly, it's a very easy procedure I was hunting and hunting when I got mine (about a month ago) so I've done plenty of research.
Mine had 4.4.2 on it as well. There is a downgrade process which is fairly simple and straightforward. It requires using Odin. I also followed a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/tut-root-tripping-knox-t2803951 which helped me a lot. I also read that towelroot isn't working, so I found one set of tools which has towelroot plus v2 and v3. v3 worked for me the second time. Try googling some stuff, there is tons of information, I'm looking for a good ROM or at least a pre-rooted updated stock ROM. I have version 0A8, which is the first OTA lollipop update. I'm looking for a ROM based off of lollipop there are tons based on kitkat kernel thou. CM is working on I think 12.1 So I may downgrade again because the downside to having Verizon lollipop installed, TWRP will no longer work. Stay with kitkat, install TWRP, and go from there, think I'm going back to kitkat to find a decent ROM, I like having recovery. Hope I helped a bit

Helped a ton I was thinking of sticking with the Active so I wouldn't need a case, but with all the development here, I'm glad I switched. And the Verizon model seems to be doing better than the AT&T one in terms of OTAs.
I was on a 4.4.4 for a long time as OTAs lock bootloaders.
I am happily rooted on 5.0 running a TW stock rooted ROM.
Beware of OTAs..... they can kill you. LP is Def better!

I'm sure this has been asked and answered, but my search through the countless threads has been frustrating and fruitless. My apologies for a likely rehash.
I have a GS5 for Verizon that's rooted using the towel root kernel. It has terrible battery life no matter what I try and I've confirmed it's not the battery itself. I am to the point where I either try a custom rom to get a different kernel in it, or maybe upgrade the phone. Can anyone recommend a rock stable rom with good performance, debloated, and excellent battery performance. I'm not looking for bleeding edge, just stable and battery longevity.
I'm leaning towards a resurrection remix rom currently, but I can't figure what version to go with or if that's a good choice.
I'm happy with this ROM (CQI4) and G900V firmware (DQI2).
This super-lite ROM is very nice too.
I'm just now working up the courage to do this. It looks like superlite requires marshmallow to be already installed. At that point, I'd also need to figure out how to get on MM without losing root. I can't tell if DevBase needs a certain OS or not.
After a bit more research, it appears that I probably need to upgrade to either Lollipop (5.x) or Marshmallow (6.x) prior to installing a custom rom. I'm currently on KitKat (4.4.4) and the guides I've found indicate that I may have issues upgrading to Marshmallow with root and not tripping Knox (currently 0x0). I'm not going to use this phone for work so I'm not sure that Knox is an issue but I have read that some updates don't work after 0x1 (upgrading the modem possibly).
I have found some guides, but I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction before I update something I can't undo. This is my only phone, so if I break it, I'm hosed. The battery is terrible, so I need to do something anyway, but bricking it isn't all that useful!
FWIW, I checked CID and I have type 11. And this is the guide I was currently looking at using:

Hello everyone, someone among all those present and absent could inform us of how to revert to the official OREO firmware to a G950F with TWRP and OREO custom Rom ????.
I guess the first step would be to flash a stock recovery and remove the root since it seems that the error is given first by the custom recovery and maybe also the supersu.
This problem we have many users of the S8 that, for trying or for not being satisfied with the custom rooms we want to return to the official romm.
Any advice is appreciated in advance.:fingers-crossed:
Since this topic does not have any "solver", I had no choice but to try to solve it myself and at this moment I have installed the OFFICIAL version G950FXXU4CRJ5_G950FOXM4CRJ3_PHN which is the last one to date from the Samsung ovens.
The only necessary material is the file "] "RMM-State-Bypass.zip" flashed with the TWRP after having deleted the root. That is the solution that has allowed me to return to the official Rom.
you can download your version on the internet if you search and flash it with Odin....look at S8 Guides etc...
