Potentially hard bricked Note 3 - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All -
My wife got a new S7 Edge, so I thought I would update from my N2 to her N3.
I originally rooted it before the bootloader got locked down, flashed a stock modified KK 4.4.2 ROM, and prevented further OTAs.
I can't recall if I installed a custom recovery, so i tried it and in the upper left hand corner it says Recovery Booting..., it fails to enter recovery mode and then rebooted normally.
So I installed Safestrap, booted into recovery, and backed up the Stock ROM slot. I then did a Factory Wipe and Advanced Wipe the system partition as per the instruction to install Jasmine ROM.
I choose then chose reboot into Recovery again so that I could use the SD Card to install Jasmine. Unfortunately, I'm stuck in a bootloop where it says Recovery Booting... and never gets back into Safestrap.
I've tried holding down the Power Button, Volume Up or Down, and Home and I can't get into recovery or download mode.
I also tried using a USB Cable plugged into my PC and the button combo thing, but no luck.
Any ideas guys?
Thank you in advance!

Pull the phone battery.
Wait 5 or more seconds.
Reinsert battery.
Start phone with Vol-Down + Home + Power. (as if you wanted to use Odin Download mode)
When the "do you really want to do this?" dialog pops up, select cancel.
This will boot to the normal OS (and also clear the boot communication block so that the next time you reboot it doesn't try to boot the recovery again)
For some reason this sequence won't work if you omit the battery pull. (Don't leave it plugged in to USB or a charger, either)
It works this way with MJ7 firmware; since this is a bootloader behavior, it is possible that it won't work the same way with later firmwares. Simple enough to try and find out though.
good luck

Good news!
I was about to select download mode finally, but only after I removed the SIM card!!
I odin'd 4.3 stock, towel-rooted, safestrapped, and installed Jasmine.
Thanks again all!

Bricked and won't boot following attempted Samsung update (16GB Wifi Retail)

A message popped up from Samsung to install an update (I had been pressing cancel for the past week on this update). It says click OK to reboot and apply update (something along those lines) so I do. Now I am stuck with a tablet that won't boot. If I hold the power button it says "Samsung Galaxy 10.1" after about 12 seconds, but then it goes away and back to darkness. Nothing else. Holding power and volume up does nothing.
Someone know what is going on and have any idea how to resolve?
The best way is to restore any backup you have from cwm recovery. Else grab a stock firmware and flash it with ODIN or if zip than CWM recovery. For luck, try clearing cache and data in recovery, first!Perhaps it may work saving you all fuss of flashing a firmware.
I cannot even boot that far too get into recovery. And I just noticed that although I can't boot, the backlight is on (on a solid black screen).... wtf
You can't hold volume down and power button to enter recovery?
Nope. I plugged into my computer and for some reason with the USB connectd it let me enter recovery. Flashed a backup and rebooted, but now I have no wifi... im confused.
it occured once to me when i tried to overclock, it never worked except when installing a new rom... Try to root the device and then install a new rom
OK, was a helluva night messing with ROM and kernel installs... I have yet to go back to completely stock (that's next up tonight, unfortunately), but I installed Starburst ROM and the Wifi still didn't work so I then installed pershoot's kernel and now when I boot the screen is extremely distorted kind of like this: http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTsKa5IoQxnesGdUjykWDDggoQZ38yZ2VXSgPAQ09NOCnETzl9-
As a side note, when I say the wifi is not working, it still shows all networks and allows me to connect just like normal. However when connected no apps can access the network...
Can someone point me to a thread on how to revert EVERYTHING back to stock so I can start fresh? TIA!!

Should have all the files you need. From where you are now I would flash the stock OTA 3.1 or TW then flash the stock recovery and do a factory reset from that recovery. That should get rid of the garbled screen.
Thanks buddy. On my way to grab the files now
I heard the update was pulled as it sometimes rewrites the bootloader improperly. You might need to send it in, unfortunately.

Boot Loop after installing a custom ROM

Hello..!!
I need some help here. I tried to flash a custom ROM (X-Note (build 6.0) for Galaxy S5 GM900F) and then flash a new bootloader, the problem is that my device will never pass the booting process. I was stuck with the logo and black screen. I have searched and tried tons of tutorials and fixes but have not solved it.
I even tried to wipe Dalvik cache, wipe data, format system. I even put out the battery and leave it for sometimes, then on but the problem is still there.
This link to bootloader that I downloaded and flashed using Odin (after successfully installing custom ROM) and also the instructions that I followed to install the custom ROM.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712475277
When I try to re-install stock Samsung via Odin, it shows a Fail message. I don't know where to go from here and I'm really worry that my phone will never come to work.
Please help me to solve it.

I'm too busy today to describe this in detail.. but here are a few comments that may help you.
First, it is fixable. Usually it's enough to boot to recovery mode (phone off, then press and hold home + volume up + power buttons). Then from the recovery mode menu, choose wipe system cache. Then reboot. If you still have an issue then try a system data format from the Settings menu (this will erase user files!).
And as a last resort, restore a backup (if you have one) or a full, stock firmware image with Odin or Heimdall. Odin is infamous for being a bit picky, so don't panic if you get a failed message. That happens to all of us. Look for a detailed Odin tutorial or how to flash back to stock firmware thread that has Odin tips e.g. use a different USB cable + USB port. Temporarily turn off anti virus on your PC.. If the Odin write fails, do not close the Odin window. Just pull the battery and USB cable from your phone again.. put the battery back.. go back to download mode (home + volume down + power), plug the USB cable back, then press the start button in Odin again. It's important that the Odin window was open the whole time.
It may take a few tries (Odin can be frustrating) but you'll succeed.

Thanks for your words, you give me some hope because I thought my phone is now useless. I'll try again as you said.

Can't reboot recovery S4

First, thank you to the mods for putting my last post in the right place (and now I know where the right place is).
Anyhoo, my previous problem was a hardware issue that I've had repaired.
Now, this is no longer critical since I bought a replacement phone (Xperia Z if anyone cares) that is happily rooted and running CM. However, I'd still like the S4 rooted with CM and ready to go in an emergency.
The downside of the repair was that the shop I took it too re-flashed it back to stock (I wasn't happy, but hell, it gives me something to do, practically risk free now). Having soft bricked the I9505 three times, I've brought it back to life. However, I'd like to get twrp on there (Honestly, CWM is stepping backwards rather than forwards IMHO, dumbing down to the lowest common denominator). I have the flash files, and for good measure, I have a stock G4 recovery.
Now my problem,. whilst the phone will boot normally without an issue (I said I brought it back from dead), I can't boot to any recovery, either from the phone itself with HW keys, or via adb. It simply sits there at the Samsung logo pretending to boot. This is with both TWRP and stock, so I'm stumped.
I get the Samsung logo, with the little blue too tiny to read text top left, and there it stays. Normal reboot works just peachy with both. Not rooted as best as I can tell (though it should be). i.e. In developer options, none of the root stuff (enhanced reboot, root options etc.) are missing.
So, whilst not critical (it will still be a handy backup phone), any ideas?
you wouldn't have any advanced reboot options unless they were in the rom, and you can't have TWRP without root. maybe the phone shop left you with nothing as a recovery because they forgot ???
In Odin, uncheck everything except f.reset time, flash the tar version of TWRP in Odin, when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove USB cable from the phone, remove battery, wait 5 seconds, replace battery, use buttons to get into recovery.
Getting into recovery.
*Press the three button combo of vol.up+home+power button
*As soon as Samsung appears relase the combo and in a jiffy press only the volume up+home button.
Hurray! :')
In order:
I've reflashed TWRP, stock, and CWM - all the successful, but same result
No Odin,. Linux user exclusively - so Heimdall
Three button combo starts recovery reboot (the giveaway is the too small to read blue text top left), but there it hangs. Using abd results in the same.
It simply hangs on booting recovery, whichever recovery, but will boot normally without a problem. Tried with and without SIM/SDCard/both/neither.
Probably worth adding, I'm not new to rooting (done it with my last 7 phones, including the one I'm currently using (Xperia Z)), and the S4 was rooted with CM13 before the shop got their hands on it.
After flashing twrp, are you letting the phone auto reboot from Odin?
How many times. Linux user - no Odin (that's Windows) - Heimdall, and it's not just TWRP, it's stock, TWRP and CWM
Personally, recommend trying to flash with Odin. I use Mac OSX myself.
I only have two options for Odin, either via a VM or using wine, and neither lets it detect the phone in download mode.
However, heimdall has always worked well (previously on this phone) so I'm not convinced that's the problem.
Don't know why, but it's finally worked.
How do I mark solved?

Stuck in recovery boot mode, odin doesnt work

Hi, I'm new to everything so please bear with me.
I have a samsung note 3, I just tried to root it with kingoroot, and was successful. I then downloaded clockworkmod recovery. I also downloaded the new darklord rom, and a darklord kernel.
I booted in recover, flashed cache, data, etc (as per darklord instructions), 3 times, flashed ROM, flashed kernel. Then I rebooted. It just rebooted into the 'factory reset' version of samsung galaxy immediately., ie within 2 minutes. So I restarted the phone, this time it started going into a lengthier reboot/install. Again, approx 10 minutes later, back to the stock samsung os.
I rebooted once again, but then the phone just kept rebooted over and over on it's own. I tried the vol down, home and power button to get into odin, pressed vol down to 'cancel', but then back to the reboot loop. Went back to odin, pressed vol up to install, and it stayed stuck on the installing screen for greater than 15 minutes.
What can I do next? Holding the vol up and down button only brings it back to the recovery boot loop again.
edit:
A few things I've tried, with no success, after reading more threads:
Taken battery out for extended period of time (1.5hr) and then retried boot...
restart in 'odin mode' numerous times
vol down + home + power key while in odin mode
hold down these three buttons with battery out, while holding buttons down, insert battery
Why have you not flashed a stock rom through Odin??

I'm not sure how to do so. Where is the option to flash anything? All that I can see is to either "cancel" (vol. down) or "start" (vol up)
edit: sorry misunderstood what you were saying -- I will try what you said

flashed rom thru odin, said 'pass', rebooted phone, still the 'not seandroid' error, and then switches off, instead of reboot loop. I'm going to try to download a different stock rom -- dunno if that'll do anything... they take so long to download/access...you'd think it would be an easy access repository? A lot of paid download links, or restricted speed download links....
If your stuck on a BL reboot loop, there is a good chance you haven't turned OFF reactivation lock. With any Samsung Rooting adventure, turning off Samsung Reactivation Lock in Security Settings is a fundamental must. If you have forgotten to do this. You can...
A. Start again by reflashing stock firmware with Odin (when you setup your stock rom, just bypass logging in to samsung and you wont need to worry about a reactivation lock being present.
B. http://idlekernel.com Download just the bootloader file for your N9005, flash via BL field in Odin and this will bypass the reboot loop and you will save everything on your phone except your recovery which is easily reflashed back.
What i would do as well is flash a stock rom, when your in odin make sure you have auto reboot untick. Pull the battery for 30 secs and start your phone up then. When your phone restarts with the stock rom, you can update your phone through the regular system update or again go to odin and flash twrp 2.8.7.0 recovery tar file. Make sure all your new files to flash is the correct one for your phone.
Sent from my SM-n900p using XDA-Developers mobile app
thanks everyone -- i downloaded a different firmware upgrade and flashed it through odin -- successfully. I then tried to install the rom again, and similar problem - stuck on the 'samsung logo' screen... for up to 40 minutes.. restarted, same thing.. had to flash through odin again.
NOW the back button doesn't work..... didn't realize being a newb would complicate things so much.. :S

Its a question of reading and understanding first .
,,successfully. I then tried to install the rom again, and similar problem - stuck on the 'samsung logo' screen,,,
You Factory Reset .
You make sure its a rom for your model and follow the instructions .
Flash the rom again through recovery .

Please help, S4 does't start or go to recovery mode

Hi all,
I have a weird problem with my Galaxy S4 (i9505) as follows:
-The screen was broken, then replaced the screen and worked for fine so I upgraded the phone to the offered 5.0.1 OS.
-It worked fine for two days, and then suddenly turned off, and kept stuck on Samsung Logo.
-It only could go to Download mode, but never to Recovery mode.
-If connected to the wall charger, it keeps vibrating and displaying the battery symbol alternatively for ever.
-I tried every all the tricks I could find on the forums such as
----Using a new battery
----Writing the official firmware 4.4.2, 5.0.1, recovery firmwares (4 files AP, BL, CS, CCS), all completed successfully.
----Tried PIT files (disparately reset NAND).
-It kept showing "Memory Booting ..." message either when starting normally or with Recovery mode.
-Installed TWRP (latest) and then it showed "RECOVERY BOOTING ...", "RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING", " Set Warranty Bit : recovery".
-Lastly installed official firmware 4.4.2 and again showing "MEMORY BOOTING ...".
Your help is tremendously appreciated.
Also, I've noticed that I can go to the download mode only by pressing (Power + Vol Down) buttons, without the need to press the Home button, does that mean that the Home button is already pressed all the time (could be a faulty screen?).
I have an s4 sgh-i337m that will also go into download modem by only pressing volume down and power. The phone does function properly and I can get into recovery without any issues.

Thanks audit13, now the possible home button issue has been eleminated.
Any other suggestions?
Have tried flashing the stock rom with Odin 3.07 as a single tar file in the pda slot and performing a factory reset before letting the phone both for the first time?
When booting to recovery, are you letting go of the power button after the phone starts to boot?
Yep, I did all possible firmwares 5.0.1, and 4.4.2 either in one file or in 4 files, also I've tried every possible combination but didn't let me into Recovery mode.
Sounds like there may be something wrong with the phone's internal memory.
Only thing I can suggest is getting the phone flashed via jtag.

Happy to do anything in this stage, any guidelines about this jtag (never used before)?.
Thanks a lot
You'll have to take it to a cell repair shop to flash it.
