With all N1 alternative threads, I'm surprised I haven't seen the synapse phone mentioned more, so I thought I would start a thread
I am quite heavily considering it. Tho I think I wanna wait for series 2, just to make sure custom rom community is there. Being rooted and unlocked bootloader from factory. But I think I should buy one to ensure there is a series 2
So who else is considering one of these synapse phones? To maybe replace their N1

wtf how cheap is this phone to start with? They're charging you extra for the most basic smartphone features...like a 3.5 mm jack!
*edit*
just modified my phone to personal liking, almost $900!
Read the remarks for a good analysis:
http://phandroid.com/2010/10/19/ger...g-custom-built-android-2-2-handsets-possibly/
Not going to happen.
So not a scam, but prob not gonna happen considering company resources
Damn

Man that seems like such a good idea....
The first day someone posted about it on gizmodo or something, I went and looked at the prices. I "built" a phone using all of components that would put it above similar phones spec wise, it was going to cost about $900 USD.
Considering I spent my entire summer savings on my Nexus One ($580 + ~$20 for screen protectors, case, etc = $600) It's not necessarily a good or bad value. If I had that type of expendable income, I would totally go for it!
The concept is cool though - make a phone that caters to your needs. I wish an American company would try this! Maybe Google? "Nexus 2 - Have It YOUR WAY!"

hahahahahaa. Somehow, equating a $500+ phone to fast food just doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth. lol
It's an interesting idea - I won't be in the market for a new phone until September 2011 so will keep an eye on them until then. That should be enough time for them to succeed / fail.
I like the idea of a 3 year warranty..
sounds like a good idea, but they are being jackasses, 256mb of ram as the basic mode want more ram? well pay up, which is just plain 2008 or wifi, 3.5mm as options when these are basic necessities for a smartphone.
Seems more like a dream idea than an actual production device

Alright I'm bumping this thread up just to show everyone there's a better alternative to the Nexus S.
And the website is pretty much working for me now. Though there's no option for me to preorder yet, but I'm more excited about this than the other phone.
Synapse-Phone.
If this true I will buy one for sure...just wanna see some in the wild and read some reviews...I will most def pass on the Nexus S

Prices are not that awful for what I need, I end up at 500 or so USD
Obviously, I didn't put 4G and hdmi, radio, etc. since I don't use them and 4G won't be appearing in Canada for a while ^^
I'll see how it gets when they start actually selling the phones...it's an awesome idea honestly, I just hope they succeed! Go germans go
3 years warranty? Amazing if true. That alone is worth it! And finally a xenon flash for an android phone.
Custom spec phone?
I would say you're on your own as far as custom ROMs go...?

How in the world could anyone leave a super AMOLED screen for an LCD? Samsung has the best camera and the best video player out there. I realize they aren't the best in regards to updating their firmware, but yikes. Samsung has the best hardware, hands down. I don't think I could ever leave them.
Droid charge FTW, by the way.

Agree 100%, you can't beat samsung when it comes to hardware.

A good friend of mine just upgraded from the Incredible to the Incredible 2 and the only thing I like about it is the front facing camera. Other than that, it's MEH. The screen size is smaller than (or same size as) Fascinate, the speed doesn't seem to be any different, they are still using the LCD, crappy 1 Gig of phone memory, shipped with a small SD card... I'd take a stock, bloated Fascinate over the I2 any day... much less my fully customized, sweetly configured piece of artwork.
Bottom Line: The Fascinate is still one of the best out there, it's an amazing phone that is easy to use with great results. My kids watch movies on it all the time, the screen rocks! Games play flawlessly most of the time and it's just a very nice piece of hardware.
I do wish good ole VZW hadn't jumped away from the GalaxyS II. Now my future plans for an upgrade later this year are going to be put on indefinte hold because I really prefer Samsung.
its sad that the samsung phones tend to need modding to show their true potential, nice phones out-of-the-box, but nowhere near their potential till you start modding.
I am on hold for my upgrade as well to see what verizon will do, may have to change carriers if they dont come up with something from verizon to replace my fassy
I have a funny twist to this story, I have an inc2 but will be switching to a fascinate in a few days, unless my wife wants it. I just want a new toy to play with and it looked like a good phone and I didn't wanna pay 350 for a replacement of her inc 2 she broke, so I ordered a fascinate. I have been reading these forums, and the terminology seems different and some things are new to me "whats this odin thing lol" but I'm really excited to mess with it and try stuff out as I have already done/tried everything available for the inc 2 since it came out. I made a thread under q&a if anyone is so kind to help a fellow flashaholic out...

I saw a different kind of Flex Cable design when I was looking for replacements the other day. It was a flew cable made out of a silicone like material. The actual Cable was inside the material. Even the Ribbon itself looked different. From the Pics it looked like a lot better design. I just wish that company made a replacement Flex Ribbon Cable for the Shift.

Can't tell if srs or trollin.
Hello members, so i was reading about the GooPhone that is supposedly patented with the Iphone 5 design in China. They are apparently ready to sue apple once the phone is released.
Anyway it led me to a site that has android/windows/blackberry devices.
Now they seem legit, have looked around and seen that there are some reviews, only negative comments are about the long shipping.
My question is, has anyone here ever ordered from this site.
http://www.fastcardtech.com/
I was interested in maybe ordering a device playing with it for a while, then maybe sending to a dev to see if the components would match that of its US counterpart to see if custom ROMS would be able to be installed.
So please read, look, get interested, and chat about the site!!!!

If she really doesn't do anything on it then I would get out for her because 512mb of ram is the same a an IPhone which has fast enough speed for every day tasks not sure if she will need more than 4GB of space but there is a microsd slot up to 32GB so that might help 1GHz processor is beyond overkill for what you said she does so sure why not!

After some careful research, and some digging into chinese forums. These phones are complete fakes.
It seems that they may not ever make it stateside. They also have IMEI problems, so they may work for a week, but after that they seem to start having disconnect problems. Also looks like the GPS will not work, being that it is based in China satelittes will not transmit here.
I almost bought one today, like 3 times, but after more and more digging, I have decided not too.
This seems to be a complete scam. There are a bunch of sites claiming fraudulent accounts among the site as well.
What seemed so nice quickly slips away.

Ouch... Buzzkill... Guess I should've done a little more digging before posting those sites. BTW, do you have any reference links?
I first went on www.fastcardtech.com/forums and was reading the results of users. Alot sounded pretty upset. Although there are not very many replies, there are some feedback.
I asked a question about a device, and then asked the same question again 2days later, and got a different answer. I will do it again, and get a screen shot so that I can show you all. There was another forum in XDA about the site, there are some saying its legit, others not so much.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561534
Will post back with more.
I am still considering ordering one, just havent decided yet. I know as soon as I do that they will announce the Note 2 for Tmobile.
I have found a few more credible sites, there is,
www.koobay.com
www.exportandgo.com
Upon searching the fastcardtech site brands devices to companies that dont actually have these devices. For instance, I have found the HDC (china phone maker) and they list their products, then you reference the FTC site and there are thousand of HDC branded devices that are not actually HDC brand!
I've seen an apple S4 by them. The screen res is terrible.it had virtually no memory. Build was terrible. Do not waste your money. I'm sure no rom with work on them.

any of these knockoffs will not work with any of the regular roms, you would have to make a rom for that knock off device model.. as you can imagine without a lot of people owning them your chances of getting a good rom is slim.
First of all, I'm sorry if this forum isn't meant for hardware discussion, but I still very badly want to share something I found.. And there are other HW topics out there, am I right?
