S7 (+ audio MOD?) vs HTC 10 Audio quality - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Could any one post any feedback on the sound quality using with mod on S7 and a comparison with HTC 10?

As far as I read on GSMArena, S7 audio is better even without any mods.

Audio is clearer on the s7/s7 edge yes but loudness is not really there, the 10 is far louder.

I´m using both too, the sound quality ( headphones and speakers) is better in HTC 10 ( for music and video), but the ringer volume in the HTC 10 is terrible and the ringtone only fire in the bottom speaker, sound very low .... very easy to lost call and messages

The volume is higher than both S3 and N2, but my personal opinion is that there still is missing some "Ompfff Ompfff Ompfff" comparing to other phones in my collection.

with poweramp?
have you set equ properlY?
I have been trying out different songs on the S4 I9505X on both bass boost and custom mode and normal mode with different songs vs my HTC one with beats on/off using ur beats earphones.
I tell you what the HTC is louder with beats on/off vs the S4 in bass boost/custom but the S4 has way more bass and is better to listen to imo.
With the S4 is normal mode the s4 is about three notches off being as loud as the htc one, so I dont know where on earth GSM arena get average volume levels from as the S4 is a beast for music I was so shocked at not only the loudness but the clarity as I have to listen to my htc one now with power amp to get proper bass but on the s4 i dont. It is far better than the S3/Note 2 aswell the note 2/s3 with power amp sucks imo its too distorted.
*The things I prefer on my htc one are
the screen but the difference isnt like it was with the one x vs the s3, as the screen on the s4 is nice.
*I prefer the fact i can send ten page messages where as on the s4 its only three page messages, also I prefer HTCs keyboard and spelling.saving words better
*I think video and defo video audio is better on the One
*Speakers on the one are better
*weather widget/clock
*the one is generally quicker as well
But there is alot of great things about the S4 and I cant wait to get one.

I have tried 6 different I9505Xs in the last 3 days in different shops the audio is the same, clear, loud and great bass. great phone the only things I would change is the keyboard, the text message limit of 3 pages, camera/video FOV and the audio mics and most importantly price lol.
Is there any background static at all? I will be connecting this to my car though and AUX jack and if there is any background noise it is amplified and thus very noticeable when no songs are playing.

I get some noise but my s3 did too. Think it's more to do with my wire/stereo. Thinking of buying a ground loop isolater to see if that helps. Its only noticeable in quiet parts though.

Does it sound electrical? Like if the you do something on the phone (scroll a page, load something, etc.) does the sound change? If yes, then its the phones fault and it will be much more noticeable.
Here is an example where someone else had a problem with a computer: http://www.sevenforums.com/sound-au...und-noises-my-headset-plugged-sound-card.html

I will do a test today, as i normally listen to music via power amp. I know i get distortion in some songs on power amp with beats on havent tried it with beats off. Tbh I do miss having a standard music player with customizations like on the S4.
I am very impressed with the S4s overall audio its better than the HTC for clarity, bass and its not far off the loudness either, for me to get the same sort of bass the s4 has I have to use power amp, I can only imagine how power amp sounds on the s4.
I mean I was so tempted to swap my HTC One for a S4 but there is still things i prefer on the htc, like messaging (especially as I often send very long messages (s4 limits you to 3 pages) and send messages to mutliple contacts (s4 limits you to 10 contacts), video/video audio, speakers, can watch videos when in a phone call using stock video player but the S4 does have a hell of a lot of easier to use features, like notification toggles and the gesture stuff and the fact u can use any gloves on the screen.
Audio quality is pretty okay, but take note of this if you use low impedance earphones:

Having been listening to loads of songs on my One, I have tried the phone with stock music player with beats on/off the sound is defo clearer with beats off on most songs other songs its about the same and then others beats audio on is better.
On power amp songs are defo clearer with beats audio off.
I also tried a few of the same songs on the S4 and didnt have the same problems in normal mode of bass boost or custom.
Btw I have found something interesting about the I9505X , the white models (and I have tried about 5 now in loads of different shops) have lower volume than the black version and I have done black/white side by side comparisons and the white version definately has lower volume wtf is up with that. Not that is concerns me as I am going for the black anyway but I find that strange.

Defo prefer the S4,
The sound quality on the s4 is far better than that on the s3. Music is the third most used thing on a phone for me after calls and texts, then its watching videos, then taking pics and videos.
out of those things the S4 wins on calls, music, watching videos, taking pics (in most situations) aldo video quality imo is as good as the HTC but HTC has better sound and I could really do with the longer battery life and memory card slot now seeing as I am rapidly eating into the 25gb that came with the phone

The CX300 supposedly has issues with the S4. But it may have been solved with later batches. Do report back whether it sounds fine at higher volumes!

The audio quality on this thing melts my face

Picked this phone up today despite the complaints. The first thing I noticed is the sound. The included head phones sound pretty good, but on my bose head set it feels like my face is melting. I don't know what they changed between the S6 and the note 5 yet but holy cow. Keep giving it to me.

Totally agree...i use Gear circle and Gear level U wireless buds and the sound is amazing and so much louder with my note 5 compared to my Note Edge...love it
Any idea if the boosted headphone sound works for bluetooth enabled headphones like the JayBird X2?
what about the call quality? In ear speaker loudness, loudness over speakerphone etc. I don't understand why these things are always almost not mentioned in any reviews, it is a phone first of all, right?
I also noticed that the sound in my via Bluetooth is much louder and clearer. I'm very happy with it.

yes the new note five will be running a higher bit rate for audio which will make audio sound better. More so if you have higher quality music files. Makes me happy you posted about this because I heard about the improved audio and now I know its true if others are posting about it

Yes just got my Note 5 yesterday also and did some testing between my iPhone 6 plus and LG G4 and the Note 5. The Note 5 is definitely the clear winner. The LG G4 is definitely sounding compressed, not sure why LG did this as the LG G2 had superb audio and was known for that. I honestly think the king now is the Note 5! ?

Anyone comparing the sound to the S6 or S6 edge? I have the S6 edge and the audio quality is not good, especially over bluetooth. Using the bletooth in my car or over my bluetooth speaker sounds hissy and pretty terrible while the same car and speaker sounded great with the htc one m8.

I agree with everything you said and I had those same devices. The only one that comes close to the Note 5 for me is the Sony Z3+, but I have so many complaints about that device that I'm not going to keep it. Anyway, my findings match yours and I couldn't be happier.

Not sure if this helps you since I don't use BT, but with IEMs via the headphone jack I find the Note 5 to be warmer and fuller sounding with less emphasis on treble like the S6 Edge I have. Also, while I initially thought the "UHQ Upscaler" was going to be a gimmick, it adds a surprising amount of punch to the audio! Overall, I'm like a kid in a candy store with this thing. I should also mention I use several high-end pairs of IEMs (Sony XBA-A3, MDR-EX1000, Dunu DN-2000j, etc.).

Why must Samsung insist on putting the speaker grill on the side where it covers it up.
Love the audio quality I am so happy. So happy.
The UHQ setting is actually enabling 192khz hardware output on the audio chip.

and do you or anyone knows what DAC is used this time in Note 5 ?

Hi there - I'm not an audiophile, but I do appreciate a good, quality output. I actually haven't used a dedicated player; the most I've done is got an E17 DAC/Amp for headphones, but it wasn't worth the trouble for me personally.
The DAC is anyone's guess, but it should be Wolfson (as were most, if not all the Samsungs before it with Exynos processors).
Cheers,

External Speaker Output Volume

Does anyone know how the external speakers compare on the s7 to the s6 edge or s6 edge plus? I was hoping for something a bit louder and better sounding this time around.
I wouldn't hold your breath, history has shown that Samsung don't really view device speaker quality as being overly important.

Well that stinks. Though, oddly the s6 edge+ actually had (marginally) lower volume compared to the s6 edge. So I figured maybe they'd change things around again.

Me too my note 4 is super loud and clear same goes for blutooth calls and music and any cans plugged into the phone.
When I tried out the S7 Edge volume in the Samsung store, it was loud and clear. I was impressed. I have never tried the volume on the s6 so I couldn't comment on the comparison.
I tried the s7 edge at a Vodafone store. It was just as loud or louder than my Nexus 5 with faux sound. I could hear the YouTube video over all the people in the store. I was impressed.
Having the speak apparently be at the bottom of the phone instead of the BACK is a big improvement coming from a GS5, IMO.
I wonder for those who have tested the speakers whether you have used the HTC devices with front facing speakers, how does the s7 edge compare to them? I ask as if I was to get the S7 edge, I'd be coming from the HTC One M9+.

I can understand the loudness - but when your comparing to the front facing speakers its not a contest. Quality is not even close and with the front facing you can set the device down anywhere and hear it - the S7 you have to really point it in the direction you want to hear it the clearest. I really wish they would have enabled the earpiece as a second speaker - even if it isn't as loud as the bottom speaker.

Again, thanks for the heads up.
So now that I got the device I can answer my own question, and for whomever it may be useful to.
The s6 edge+ and the s7 edge has the same (external speaker) max volume as far as I can tell. Music plays on average around ~90DB. This is slightly lower than the original s6 edge. That said the s7 edge does sound a little fuller to my ears, but again that's might just be placebo. For all I know it's the same exact speaker.
Just got this on release day, s6 edge to the s7 edge, the volume on the s6 was WAYYYYYY louder, my ringtone, text, playing music on an aux cable, everything was so much louder on the s6 edge its so weird the difference, maybe i just got a crappy one, because i have other things wrong with this phone, but definitely a difference in volumes
Think the loudspeaker isnt as good due to the waterproof feature

Audio quality?

I just purchased a pair of Beats earphones and tested them on both the S6 and S7 Edge and noticed that the overall sound and bass is much more louder and crisp on the S6 than on my S7 Edge. That said, has anyone who has previously owned an S6 or S6 Edge found there to be any significant difference in audio quality between these 2 devices?

I don't have the device yet but there should be a difference in sound. The s7 comes with a custom Samsung audio chip (Lucky is the name I believe). Samsung may be taking audio quality seriously now considering they now market high quality headphones.
Now as far as those Beats headphones. Audiotechnia or Vmoda are the way to go![emoji1]

I will definitely look into those but what I meant was that the audio quality on my S6 overall is louder and more crisp than the S7. My findings are only based on these Beats earphones but thought it was worth a mention. I know Samsung is using a new custom audio chip and with that you'd think the overall sound quality would be far superior to that of its predecessor but based on my results thus far, the sound just isn't up to par with my S6. It's tolerable though so I can't complain. Again, just thought it was worth mentioning.

I just received mine yesterday but I did notice something off from the s6. Tested via Android Auto (which uses USB audio) and my Jaybirds. Still good sound quality but not as crisp as the S6. Tweaked the EQ quite a bit but still have more work to do.

Seriously? I was hoping it sounds better than the s6 since its a new chip made by Samsung. The s6 I believed used a Wolfson.(don't quote me on that). Which apple used in the past. That is really disappointing if the quality is worse than the s6

Seriously? I was hoping it sounds better than the s6 since its a new chip made by Samsung. The s6 I believed used a Wolfson.(don't quote me on that). Which apple used in the past. That is really disappointing if the quality is worse than the s6

Looks like I just got confirmation from the user above. Good to know it's not just me. Now, don't get me wrong, the quality isn't BAD but it isn't great either. As I said, it's tolerable but just not as loud and crisp as the S6. We should have more options to enhance audio output once we have root but until then, I'm going to continue trying to play around with the EQ and tweak it just right to mimic that of the S6.
Beats are horrible. Read the reviews. Your issues are due to beats

I guess you misunderstood my post.. First of all, Beats headphones aren't as bad as you claim. There are both pros and cons just like any other piece of technology. Some like them, some don't. They're just decent in my opinion.
The whole point behind my op was that I first noticed a difference in audio quality when comparing the sound outputted from these earbuds on the S6 with that outputted on the S7. The overall sound is definitely much louder and crisp than on my S7. That's all I was saying..
But since you think Beats suck, what would you recommend I try?
Yup. That's why these Beats earphones sound just fine on my S6, right? Once again, you've misconstrued my OP but it's cool... No need to reply. Have a good one.

Perhaps bash_array's xda acct. has been hijacked? Hard to believe someone with more "thanks" than posts is a lazy reader AND belligerent. Your s6/s7 comparison is clearly valid regardless of earbuds used. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I use BT in my car and have noticed significant audio quality and clarity
Have you checked under audio experience section in settings?
The dac the exynos devices use is a Wolfson one. All the last generation galaxies use the Wolfson chip since that's what's paired with the exynos. Qualcomm always used their in house dac which is not bad but it's not as good as the Wolfson dac. So that's why the sound quality may differ. I have the note 5 and contemplating getting the exynos s7 edge because of this alone. And also due to the fact that I think I'll be done with rooting

have you or anyone heard any sort of static or crackling with the bluetooth audio? This was an issue for me in my Note 5. I went through 2 other Note 5's to see if it was the phone and for whatever reason, each Note 5 would play crackling and static audio via bluetooth to my car (a '15 Honda Civic). My nexus 6P works fine though.
Bluetooth sounds great. Plugged into headphone jack and it definitely not as clear. Midrange is gone, treble low. Same aux port on radio, just different 1/8 plug in...one bt, one line in. Headphones don't sound great, but are ok (tolerable)...tried the couple I had around.

S7 Edge headphone output quality?

I am coming from a One Plus One with V4A and Dolby Atmos, I use my Bose Sie2 earbuds and the music sounds phenomenal. How is the audio output for high end headphones sound on the S7 Edge? It's a major buying criteria of mine, thanks!

The volume is very low on mine, even at max volume. Once it's rooted I think we can change this but until then you'd have to use a headphone amp.
Simply not good. Noticeable static noise unless turn on UHQ upscaler in settings. (im using shure se535 btw)

That's a bummer. Does turning on UHQ and playing around with the equalizer make any difference?/ have you used V4A on the s7? You say it's not good, but coming from a One Plus One would it be significantly better?

Looking to pick up the S7 Edge next week, and headphone sound quality is pretty important for me aswell. What variants do you have? im in the UK and have read/heard the Exynos variant has better output
Exynos version here, Shure SE535s, and sound quality is fine. It's not "Audeze open-airs playing FLACs through a custom-tuned amp", but it's good for what I need it for. No static, highs are high, lows are lows, not getting noticable cross-talk or anything like that.

Ah brilliant. Ive been using my Shure SE535s with an HTC M8 for the last 2 years, so its good to see you are getting good quality with S7 Edge then with the same earphones, Thanks for the reply man! Aslong as its no worse than the M8, then im not fussed

I have my s6 and an iPhone lying about - I'll try comparing it to those two.
I will say that I don't have a volume issue with the Shures - even walking through Paris or riding the Métro, I never turn the sound from Spotify (downloaded locally, Extreme quality) up over half or one notch up from there. I do use foam tips.

A comparison would be cool mate if its no trouble! Oh wow thats pretty good tbh. I tend to have my M8 on 3/4 or so on the volume slider.
I had noticed a slight degrade in quality.
Rooted and Installed Viper Audio and noticeable improvement
S7Edge, tried them with my 150ohms Sennheiser PC350SE. no static, volume is good, and quality is great.

Exynos
Thanks for all these amazing replies! Also confirmed for a few users that had a One Plus One that the audio is greatly superior to this phone.
