[SM-A500FU] Install CyanogenMod 13 - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

So, I have searched a lot, and found the same instructions everywhere.
They tell me to make a backup, copy the zip and then wipe everything, but the stock OS.
But won't this wipe the backup, and the zips to install?
I have rooted my phone, and I have TWRP.
I need a backup because I have a LOT of contacts and music, and would like to keep them.
Can anyone give me clear instructions, with pictures maybe?

You just wipe system,data,dalvik/Art and cache thats all.your zips are in SD,so its still there because u didnt wipe this.

[Q] Help phone already rooted

Hi my phone has already been rooted and loaded with a rom as far as i know. someone did it for me before but i completly forget how he did it and dont know where to start. Was reading the guides but i dont quite understand how to do it from when i already have one loaded in. Any chance someone can lead me to the right direction. Also have Cyanogenmod 7 not sure if that makes a difference and clockworkmod recovery v3.0.0.5
Flash latest recovery through rom manager, download rom you want, verify md5 sum, transfer onto sd card if not already there. Then this it's what I do-reboot into recovery, use trackpad to scroll and select items, perform a backup of current rom (nandroid), factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, format system (very important), choose install zip, scroll through your sd card files until you find the zip, select it and let it do it's thing. Once done, reboot phone, let boot and leave alone for 10 minutes, reboot into recovery again, fix permissions, reboot phone and let sit for 5 minutes (should load a lot faster), then set up phone how you want. Use apps from the play store to back up app data, text messages, etc. just don't bother backing up system apps, can cause issues. Download any apps you want directly from play store (under my apps) before restoring data to them. Make sure you don't wipe sd card unless you have it backed up on a computer and are willing to transfer everything over in recovery...it all sounds complicated but after you do it a couple times, it doesn't take very long. Main thing is to ALWAYS make a back up before flashing anything (rom, kernel, mod, etc.) To flash a kernel, you just need to wipe cache and dalvik cache only and fix permissions.

installing a rom

hello i have a quick question. I want to install optimus rom .My question is in order to install the rom i must do a full wipe which is to wipe delcache/cache/ data/system. But on the lgg2 d800 all my apps and games are stored on the sdcard partition of the internal storage. if i wipe everything will it also wipe these apps ? i dont care if it does im just asking because in the past i dont think it did. I think the rom installed and all my apps were still taking of space on my storage but i wasnt able o access them.
Also if i download the rom file to my phone how am i supposed to install it if i have to wipe the phone out? Am i supposed to use lg flash tool to get my phone back to stock ( meaning unrooted ) and then reinstall a kk rom then recovery ,root, then a new rom?
i only ask this because it seems like everythime i install the stock tot kitkat rom file here on xda theres always some issue with it.
It is generally advised to wipe data/cache/dalvik when flashing a new rom. When wiping your installed apps, messages, settings etc are deleted. Everything on your internal storage is not however.
Download the appropriate files,(Rom, gapps, etc), wipe and flash.
You can backup all your apps before flashing with Titanium backup, backup+, helium and so on..
If you are on stock you will need to root and install a recovery.. You'll find the appropriate guides in the forum..
Good luck.

Sokkoban's Deodexed Rooted Custom Rom B574

I wish to move from stock b574 to sokkoban's.
My biggest concern is that in the description given, it requires wiping data. Given that I am already on marshmallow, is there really a need to wipe data in twrp? Won't cache/system wipe just do? I don't want to wipe my internal sd plus file structure/dates. Plus all my apps!
Call me lazy but am yet to find a backup system that will return all my files & apps as they were pre-flash.
Any ideas?

actually, huawei has pre-installed backup app.. and it works great... you can backup every app plus app's data too... but backing up all those may take time..

in teory no you dont need to wipe data ...
as you know sokkoban rom must be installed via twrp
so you can :
fisrt
install twrp
make nandroid backup
install sokkoban rom without wipe
if does not work you can try to
wipe and install sokkoban rom
recovery from your previus backup the data partition
Thanks guys. I can confirm you do not need to wipe data to use the custom rom. A simple dalvik & cache wipe did it.

Wiping everything in TWRP and Cyanogenmod

Everyone, I have searched and searched for the answer and I have not been able to find it. I have a VZW Galaxy S5 with an unlocked bootloader. I installed CM13 on it. I tried wiping data, cache and dalvik and there are so many files and folders that still remain. Is there a way to wipe it clean and get rid of all those trash folders and files? Can I wipe internal storage, then while still in TWRP re-install CM13? Will everything be ok? How can I get rid of all those trash folders and files? Are they somehow needed still? Thank you so much for your help. I swear I have looked everywhere and I just can't find a definitive answer and I am afraid to wipe internal storage because I don't want to have to ODIN back to a stock rom and reroot etc.... If anyone knows how to get rid of all those trash files, help!

Don't worry you can wipe internal storage and reinstall CM13 no problem! But making a backup and then restoring it would be easier!
I would recommend you to do this, and before you do it make sure you are on twrp 3.0.2-2!
Firstly make a backup and plug your phone in to the computer, copy all your files from your internal memory to the computer just to be safe.
Remove sd card and then boot into twrp. After that go to wipe and click format data. This will erase everything on your phone! After that turn off your phone, insert sd card, go into twrp and restore your backup.
If you don't have a sd-card your backups are probably stored in your internal storage. That means you have to transfer them from your computer to your phone after the wipe is complete to be able to restore your backup.
Good luck and I hope this helped you!

factory reset on custom rom

I haven't been able to find an answer upon searching and haven't come across this in my time reading forum posts.
So if I go to settings - backup and reset and do a factory reset from there.
I will lose all my data on internal storage, yes. But will the Android system boot into the same rom with Gapps and all just without any data at all? Allowing me to set it up as a new phone completely.
I'm on official Resurrection remix.
Edit - here's what I did. Thanks @Sam Nakamura
1. Clean flashed the ROM I wanted to use. (wipe everything except internal storage)
2. Booted into the ROM and set up Google account.
3. Booted into twrp and wiped internal storage.
4. Rebooted into system.
Everything is good as new. Setting it up from scratch now.
Isn't better doing it from recovery?

Trying to find out how. Want to delete all data including internal storage.
Want to lose all apps, files. Basically exactly as a new phone, just with a custom ROM.

Just use wipe data/factory reset function in TWRP and use the advanced wipe options.

Not if you don't wipe system partition, where ROM and Gapps are located. Just if something goes wrong, you should have a way to flash these zips. You can use TWRP to transfer them.
Basically I'm not sure which partitions to wipe. As I don't know what is contained in which partition. Which is what I'm trying to understand
How to use twrp to transfer them? I lost you at that.

Wipe data, cache, dalvik, and internal storage partitions. Don't wipe system.
Data contains your apps. Cache works as cache for apps and dalvik has a similar function afaik. Internal storage stands for the internal memory, where files that you download, transfer or receive, are located.
I'm trying to say that you should have a backup of ROM and gapps just in case something bad happens, which I don't think. If that happens, just boot the phone in TWRP and plug it to a computer. Then transfer zip files of ROM and Gapps to internal storage, and then flash them. Voilá, clean ROM and full operative Gapps.
Sorry for taking so much to reply, I didn't see notifications in the forum.

Thanks for the explanation about the partitions.
I managed to achieve what I set out for.
Did a clean flash of my ROM. Then went on to wipe internal storage in twrp. Now have a new rom and everything. But clean slate for internal storage.
