Hey, I have this problem for about a year (I use to have OnePlus phone and I thought it was the problem but no...)
I've tried update all the drivers, uncheck all the auto power save options
nothing seems to work.
The computer is the new Alienware 14, the phone is Samsung s6 edge+
Check your cable/ usb port on your pc.

By not working, I mean that my device isn't recognized in windows. I have installed the proper samsung drivers, I have turned debugging mode on and off, I have also swapped cables, all with the same response. "USB Device not Recognized" It works fine on my home machine but I am currently on my laptop and need to get data off of it. I am using CleanRom so I am not sure if that changes anything. Any suggestions?
What kind of phone is something you should always mention, a Samsung Galaxy, Android version __ etc… But always leave debugging on, always. There could be a problem with the computer not recognizing it, it's happened to me. Or it could be something with the phone but more info would be more helpful. Never mind I didn't see it was under att gs4.
Sent from my brain to your eyes, to your brain, using my Galaxy S3, running Cm 10.1. I'm in your head now.
Make sure your drivers are correct and up to date. Make sure you hit "accept" on any messages displayed on your phone (connection). Make sure the USB cable you use is working,. Try another USB port on you PC.
You said you did many of these things, but I would check them again. You can always try to see if ODIN or KIES detects your phone. If not, it is most likely a drivers / cable / port issue. Good luck.

Figured since it was Galaxy S4 forum that might be obvious, but it is the ATT version. Still no idea, gonna reboot in a few to see if that solves it. Will report back
Didn't reboot system, instead I turned phone off and plugged it in waiting for it to show the charging symbol, turned it on, windows saw it fine.
I have a quick question. It seems that my tablet has lost its ability to connect through USB recently. I was unable to send pictures to the pc one day and have bought numerous cables to no avail. Looks as if, somehow, it just wont connect through usb. The original cable was acting up during charging anyway. My main question is, how do I root without the ability to connect to a pc? Is this at all possible? I was rooted before but since installing the newest update, 10.6.1.27.5-20130902, i noticed it wasn't rooted anymore.Am I pretty much SOL? BTW, nowadays the tablet wakes up and beeps like every other minute while charging. Dont know if its related. I wish I didnt do the update altogether.
Updating to the latest firmware (at last check) hides the developer options from the settings. Your problem might be that USB debugging was disabled or never was enabled.
To add developer settings back into the settings, you need to go into the "about tablet" in settings and tap the build number 5 or so times and then developer options should show up.

If its a cable problem, the cable only costs 5$ on amazon.
I'm on my third replacement cable already. Also, developer options are turned on. USB debugging is on as well. They charge fine but connecting them directly to any computer i have does nothing, almost like not plugging it in at all. Have tried on three different setups that worked before, Win 7 X64, Win 8 X64, Win XP X86.

Disable the developer options and USB debugging. Windows may be trying to recognize the ADB instead of trying to mount partitions.

Tried that too. Doesn't seem to work either way.
Which worries me severely.
If you haven't already, install the google sdk adb drivers and see if that works, though from what it sounds like that's not the problem.
I'm thinking bad usb port on computer... try wireless adb if you can...

might be that the plug at your tablet got damage some how? maybe not fully damaged but partialy, do u have a dock? if you have you have any problem with it?
sorry for my bad english
Greetings!
Don't have the dock. Went to the Best Buy out here and they don't got it. Worst case scenario, my port is jacked up, can I still root without it? If so what steps can I take to do so?
depends on if you have a custom recovery like twrp if you do, then you should ok flashing supersu package, otherwise you are in the worst case scenario...

I really hope you found a solution. Ive been looking an answer for this annoying problem for 6 months!
Ive read almost 50 threads in differents forums about this problem but no solution at all.
- Tried changing charging port. Cost me a few dollars but no solution.
- Tried USB debugging on and off from developers menu.
- Did MTP+ADB option in *#*#0808#* menu.
- Turned Low Battery Dump "on" in *#*#0808#* menu.
- Tried 10 or more different original Samsung cables.
- Upgraded PC USB drivers.
None of them worked for me.
Hope you have made a progress.

Following on from another thread I posted about problems after updating to Android 8.0.
I have now discovered that I cannot actually connect my device to any PC / laptop.
When I do, it either doesn't register as being connected, on either the laptop nor the S8 (doesn't charge) or I get a pop up telling me its slow charging and I do not see it within Windows.
This means I cannot transfer files from device to device nor run any adb commands, which, oddly, id like too.
Has anyone else seen this?
Ive tried many things, including:
reboot S8
clear caches on S8
tried different USB cables
tried different usb ports
tried a different windows machine
changed settings in S8 developer options (set to MTP transfer)
update windows drivers
uninstall and re-install Samsung drivers on windows machine
Nothing seems to work anymore.
Occasionally if I plug it into my Windows machine, Windows gives me some sort of error message about the device not working correctly and so cannot be used?
Any help would be much much appreciated, as my device is no bordering on being completely useless.
And the Samsung customer / tech support is literally THE worst I have ever experienced.
Thanks

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.
But it doesn't help me really. As I can not get windows to even see my device, not does my S8 acknowledge that it's plugged into my laptop.

and today I woke up to a moisture detected notification...so cannot cable charge at all now.
My S8 has never even been close to liquid of any kind, always kept in a fitbag sleeve case, inside my pocket.
F**k this phone and F**k Samsung and their crappy Android update.
A crazy expensive device that is now rendered pretty much useless due to their last update
to summarize, following the Oreo update:
- cannot cable charge at all now
- previously could only slow charge via cable, fast charge would not work
- cannot connect S8 to any other PC / laptop to transfer files
- battery life is absolute garbage - need to charge 2 times a day at least
- WiFi is laggy, slow and drops connection
- Some of my Cast devices (Google Home and Chromecast) are not seen by the S8 - have to disconnect and reconnect to Wifi several times
- pretty sure the phone is randomly rebooting (every so often I'm asked for my PIN rather than biometrics)
Last update 10.05.18 - G950FXXU1CRD7
Im sooooo glad I have 1.5 years left on my contract with this phone....

Took it into my providers (EE in the UK) store, and they were about as useful as a chocolate fireguard..."have you tried turning it of and on again innit"....
after lengthy discussions, in which I explained more than they did, it has been sent for repair.
Could take up to 14 days, depending on the fault.
From what I can gather by Google fu, the moisture alert is a common fault, and ive come to the conclusion that Samsung f**ked up the Oreo update / roll out, but are burying their heads and forcing the carrier providers to take the brunt of the complaints from the end user.
Bad form Samsung, BAD FORM
I think this S8 will be my last Samsung device. Ever.
Im have the same problem today i realized i cannot connect to pc through usb and i cant not fast charge only slow charge when i connect it to usb port it starts charging but cant transfer files or flash another firmware to try to solve the problem?
so did they find the problem?

How about the USB Debugging of your S8, after upgrade to Andorid 8.0, the USB Debugging may be disabled.
Hey everyone, so when I try to use any tool that relates to fastboot, be it the Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot tools, the Mi Unlocker or anything, the phone simply isn't detected and I can't start the process.
When I plug in the phone I hear the sound indicating it's connected, but then whenever I try anything like refreshing the Mi Flash tool or opening the ADB/Fastboot tools I hear the disconnect sound.
I've tried reinstalling the adb fastboot drivers, tried everything I could and for some reason this only happens on my PC.
I should also note that ADB works perfectly though, and I've used it to debloat my phone with no issues.
My setup is as follows in case someone can point out what's wrong:
AMD Ryzen 3 2200G
Gigabyte A320M-S2H Motherboard
MSI AMD Radeon RX 570 8GB
1 TB Seagate HDD
240GB ADATA SSD
Windows 10 1903
Thanks in advance for the help!
I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think that turning off driver signing enforcement in Windows could help

That was the first thing I tried as well. and now it says on the corner of my screen "Windows 10 Test Mode"
I did it through both the cmd and the advanced startup
I also faced this. I found the complete solution. I thought of making a new thread for this but got too busy.
So If am not wrong, whenever you connect your phone in FASTBOOT mode the phone immediately reboots or Shows a message at the top left corner "Press any key to Shutdown" and it's already been disconnected from the PC.
The reasons behind this mess are vast.
In most cases it is happening because of the Ryzen CPU.
Let's be clear with one thing. WINDOWS HAS GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. So please don't waste your time installing a new windows. Windows 10 is just fine. (BUT I KNOW IT SUCKS! ?)
So what is it with Ryzen? Well people have faced issues with Intel too. But the masses had this with Ryzen.
USB PORT! Is the problem. Even if you use the inbuilt USB port that's USB 2.0 NOPE! It's not gonna work for the most part. And even it works by luck, the next time you reboot your PC? Be ready to screw your head again.
Solution?
Go beg borrow buy or steal a USB 2.0 HUB for yourself.
A cheap low end one. It works like freaking charm.
Or just go for another PC with the 2.0 ports. PC Lappy all the same but make sure the Lappy is not a new generation one.
HUB is the best solution to go for.
Chao!?
