Zenfone 2 Laser 5.5 S? - Zenfone 2 Laser Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Asus has released in the Philippines what appears to be a new model in the Zenfone Laser series. The strange thing about the Zenfone Laser 5.5 S is that it retains the same model number as the Zenfone 2 Laser 5.5 (without the S), ZE550KL. The details are fairly sketchy even at the Asus site itself. There's no ROM download page, only an order form at the PH section of the Asus online store.
store.asus.com/ph/item/201604DM210000004/D5512
Apparently the phone has an upgraded Snapdragon 615 SoC (from the SD 410 found in the original phone) and increased RAM/Storage of 3GB/32GB (from 2G/16GB), but some of the other info I've found is contradictory, so I'm wondering if other users can confirm the specs. In particular, I'm not sure if the phone is 802.11ac capable. The SD 615 is listed as wifi AC-ready, but Asus could have crippled the phone so that it can only connect to wifi N networks. Also curious if this phone can be "unlocked" using the same method as the other 5.5/6.0-inch Zenfone Laser models. An non-unlockable bootloader is a deal-breaker for me since I'm planning to debloat the ROM or maybe even flash Cyanogenmod.

Different hardware K3 Notes ??

I need to buy 2 more notes.. Mine was a K50-T5 china model. Overall I am happy with that now its on marshmallow and would replace with same
Looking on aliexpress theres K50-T5 and K50-T3 which is slightly cheaper but seems to have the same specs ??
Is the T3s inferior ?? Runs the same ROMs ??
Any ideas ??
I think, hardware is same. Only difference is in stock ROM, T3s has less LTE frequencies.
On ali, you can read: "Surprise!!!After we install Custom Firmware, after flash custmoized rom, K50 T5 and K50 T3s Have same network frequency". Somewhere else I read, that you can use same ROMs for both versions.
I'm going to order the T3s
if the hardware the same.. why is there such a price difference ??
Can anyone confirm if the stock ROMs for the T5 work the same on the T3 ?? I need to buy a few so the saving is helpful, but it must run the new 6.0 stock rom nicely.

I have the same doubt. Do you have any news?
I just bought 2 more T5 versions..
I need to set them up and leave them with employees.. I cant be worrying about if MM wont flash onto them for the 20 buck price difference.
To clarify : The hardware is exactly same apparenly, in aliexpress the sellers says they flashed a rom that allow all FDD LTE frequencies (they have screenshot of available frequencies).
But officially : T5 = Worldwide version with FDD LTE
T3S = China TD-LTE only.
Its the same sroty with Redmi Note 2 but officially they decided to include also FDD bands to allow users of China Mobile to use 4G when they travel overseas.
The only thing I still need to find out is that if flashing a T5 rom on T3S works (I'll try VIBE 3.1 tomorrow) or if the guys in aliexpress really use a special rom to make it work or if T3S rom actually has all FDD frequencies activated.
About price difference : Officially the T3S is only registred to be used on TD-LTE so they do not have to pay for FDD licenses. That's why all brands like Nubia XIaomi ... are cheaper in chinese version than worldwide.
Hello,
I m new user of t3S .
I registered to this forum, after reading this post.
I've wondered about this compatibility.
If it can help you, I've flashed (4 days ago) a custom rom (with vibeui/android 6.0 found on needrom) designed for the T50 on the "k3 note t3s" (Edit : without any modification) with success. I can't say for the 4G frequencies because i don't use them, but I didn't encounter any problem .
I have the t3s version from Ali Express too. I wonder what changes the seller made to the ROM.
The ROM is listed in the settings as VIBEUI_V3.0_1604_7.209.1_ST_K50-T3s
It's not listed on the XDA page of downloads.
Also, this ROM doesn't provide OTA updates.
But before flashing it, I think it would be a good idea to save the ROM as flashed by the seller. Just in case it doesn't work with this particular hardware. Also, I don't want to lose the 4G.
I'm not sure how to do that though.
Thanx Very Much

Any luck on rooting the ZenFone 3 Max 5.5 (ZC553KL)?

Been checking around XDA periodically for TWRP for this model... It seems the ZC520KL already has a solution, but this one hasn't. I figured the 5.5" Qualcomm version would get a root solution faster, but not yet. Is there any hope for this model before I start pulling out all my hair in sad, sad frustration? :'(
A question
Sorry if I'm in the wrong g spot but I'm wondering which model I fall under
Cups shows:
Board MT6737
Hardware MT6735
Phone Asus X008C_US Phone
Build MRA85K.US
Is this the one that is or is not unlockable boot loader and please direct me to the proper page if possible to follow the progress
Thank you
This is ridiculous zenfone 4 is out and zenfone 3 max zc553kl does not have a root method, nor official or anofficial, Asus is disappointing me, they need to give away free devices to developers, samsung has unlock for every model, what's wrong?

Has anyone managed to root or flash custom firmware? I have searched, and the last post for this specific model was in august and no one had found a solution. i have access to a pc, but no experiance with rooting other than one click, no pc methods. Kingroot and various other no pc methods have failed.
MODEL INFO
4G LTE using CDMA (Verizon) service
Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
WiFi
Bluetooth
GPS
Voicemail, Caller ID, MMS/SMS
8 MP Rear Camera/ 5 MP Front Camera
Size: 3.09" x 6.0" x 0.30"

2 GB RAM
16 GB Internal Memory (Up to 256 GB memory with external Micro SD Card)

Obviously, there has been no responses on this model. I have been looking with no avail. If I even knew where to begin working on a ROM for this I would atleast give it the going try, I have two of these and I found a stock firmware ROM that I may be able to use for recovery.
Have you heard anything else on this???

Frankenstein device

Hello everyone
I had Note 4 with Exynos chipset (N910C) with no brand (European version).
After some issues with LTE connections and SIM card recognition I have bought used N910F motherboard and installed in my device.
First boot shows that motherboard is from Italy device with Wind operator applications installed.
Next I flashed device but forgot to record IMEI, modem version and bootloader version.
I have restored device using Samsung Kies and during restore process Kies reported device as:
PDA: QG3
CSC: QG1
PHONE: QA1
After restore system setting shows:
Model: N910F
Modem: N910FXXS1DQA1
Version number: MMB29M.N910FXXU1DQG3
1) Now I have a problem: should I use TRLTE roms or TRLTEXX?
When I put "Note 4" in TWRP website search it suggest "Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Qualcomm (trlte)" - so it is TRLTE device?
On the other hand most of N910F images are tagged as TRLTEXX.
2) Can I mix TRLTE TWRP with TRLTEXX ROM image (and vice versa) or they should always match?
3) I have tested few roms and faced problems with not working camera. I know that latest official Android version for Note 4 was Android 6.1
and most roms (RR, Lineage) are based on Android 7.1 If this is the reason of problems? Because official Samsung kernel with working camera
supports Android up to version 6.1 and customs kernel used in 7.1 have some camera issues?
4) What is the relation between kernel version and Android versions? Its like Android 6.1 requires kernel 3.x.x and Android 7.1 requires for example versions never than 4.x.x etc?
I will be thankful for answers to my questions. I know that they may be naive for experienced users but I try to good understand the process,
rather than blind flash roms until device will work.
Your device is basically n910f now. You should use twrp and roms for n910f
Your camera is nonfunctional because Exynos based units use Samsung's ISOCELL modules, and Snapdragon devices use Sony's image sensors. Your network connectivity should be gone as well for that reason.

Ok, but still, if it is TRLTE or TRLTEXX because both tags comes with N910F roms.

By network connectivity You mean that antena design is also different and will cause signal loss?
I forgot to mention that I have also switched front and back camera to used ones from N910F.
From original N910C only body, USB port and scrren left.

Precisely. If you replaced those too, you should have no issues
Questions 1 and 2: Both use Snapdragon chips. Trltexx is the unlocked international N910F, while the other one is usually sold by carriers (T-mobile, AT&T and the likes). You should be able to mix 'em with no issues.
3: To get devices working on non-OEM firmwares without direct support from official drivers, developers write bundles of code called SHIMs. The camera is one such device, and because in most cases the driver is based on the manufacturer's own proprietary code, it's usually with blood and tears that our dear devs are able to get everything working even as it is. That's why you may face almost-working equipment with AOSP ROMs. You can read more about SHIMs here.
4: "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" applies here. There's no direct correlation between Android versions and which kernel versions they use, and manufacturers are sometimes slow to move to a higher version number because of how little meaningful improvements it brings. Recently, Google has mandated that all devices shipping with a SoC manufactured in 2017 or later must come with kernel version 4.4
Hope this clears things up. Anyone is welcome to correct if anything I've said is in the slightest incorrect.
Cheers,

Possible Help From Rooted 5q Owner?

I have a friend who purchased a Zenfone Max M1 Pro made for the market in India (and maybe elsewhere) for use in the US. He did not realize that the bands used overseas would not be helpful in the US. I am trying to help him. He is on T-Mobile and really needs LTE band 4 so he can use his CellSpot device at his home. Sadly, the device he bought lacks this band.
I have been reading and trying several things since I rooted this device. First I tried the well documented approach using the QXDM utility. It turned out this did not work on this device. Not entirely sure why. But this user <https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79713339&postcount=3> claims it is because the phone in question "does not have a programmable radio firmware" and "Network parameters are pre-installed in mcfg_sw.mbn files, also the per carrier volte parameters are embedded in this folder". He then says "mcfg_sw.mbn files can be deleted and installed by QFIL in QPST. "
So I am willing to try going this route. In looking around, it seems that users looking to change their phone's Qualcomm configuration have been finding users with "compatible" phones online and getting ahold of their files of this type and installing them + some additional properties changes. Sadly, Asus did not make a version of the Zenfone Max M1 Pro for the US market and so I have been trying to find another Asus Zenfone that seems possibly compatible from which I could try to do the same.
This brings me to this forum and post... In looking at the specs, the Zenfone 5q and the Zenfone Max M1 Pro seem to share many common features. It is true that one uses the Snapdragon 636 while the other uses the 630. But from what I have read, they employ the same modem. So I am hoping that I may be able to succeed using files from the 5q.
So I am asking to see if some rooted (you need to be in order to access the folder/files in question) 5q owners/users might be able to help. On the M1 Pro, the files are all located under this folder: /firmware/image/modem_pr/mcfg/configs. So I am guessing/hoping that the same location will be used on the 5q. It it is, could someone possibly zip up the contents of that entire folder and make it available somehow? I could then compare what you have to what I have here and maybe try some file swapping.
Any other tips/suggestions are always welcome too.
Thanks
