D802 battery drains quickly - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
I have Lollipop, Kernel 3.4.0, Software Version V30-EUR-XX, original LG soft
Battery drains fast. I left phone in flight mode in sleep and it lost 8% in 6 hours. While usage it loses 1% in around every 1,5 min. This phone has so good opinion because of battery, so I guess something must be wrong. I replaced my battery a week ago, its still same.
I installed GSam Battery Monitor, no apps which would use battery significantly. By the way, no matter if I switch all the radios off or I browse web on LTE with full brightness, it shows between 26-30mA, it doesn't seem legit, does it?
I bet this firmware may be problematic. Wiped this phone twice already, by 1st time it was getting hot very quickly, by 2nd time it was lagging. It is not the way to wipe phone every 1,5 month though.
Do you know guys some quick solution on this or can recommend some other firmware?

ok, my phone battery life is messed up. Help please

Hi guys, this is not another rant post about battery life, but i'm starting to become really
frustrating with it, i tried almost all the solutions provided here on the forum but i can't
simply get the **** out of it. This is my story:
I bought the phone as used around 1 month ago (the guy who sold me the phone used it for around 1
month as well). I was quite satisfied about the device, but i noticed almost immediately the damn
poor battery life. With stock battery, my stats are (this is an average of the last 3 times i
used it):
Average duration: 27 hours
Average display usage: 2.5 hours
Average display %: around 45%
Average standby: Cell 30%, phone 15-16, other apps and android core 1-2
This with the following configuration:
3g off
gps off
background data off
bluetooth off
display brightness set to the minimum
no background applications or live wallpapers
No animations
No vibration feedback
No sounds
No widgets
Removed 5 touchwiz panels out of 7
Wi fi on (actually i noticed some small improvements by leaving it off)
The strange thing is, i noticed that the phone drains a LOT of battery while in standby. During
the night (7-8 hrs standby) my phone can drains up to 20% of the battery life. I read on the
forum that a lot of you guys have a battery drain overnight of around 2-3% which is 10 times
lower than mine.
So i thought about 2 possible causes:
1) Software related(processes or applications running in background)
2) Hardware related (battery ****ed up by the previous owner; phone not going in standby correctly)
Regarding the problem 1) i tried almost every solution provided here on the forum. Updated to new roms (JM5 and JM8) installed ultraslim roms, installed battery saving applications and task killers, performed some exotic "fixes" (removed battery stats file, tried to completely drain the battery following some procedures explained here on the forum). Nothing helped. To check case 2) i bought a cameronsino extended battery. Well with this battery i have exactly twice the duration of the stock battery. Last night i charged it to full before going to bed. This morning, when i woke up, the phone drained 10% (!) of the battery in 8 hours. So the stock battery is not the problem. What should i think then? that My phone is ****ed up? is There no chance to obtain a decent battery life? How is possible that a lot of guys have almost twice my battery life with stock battery?
I guess your phone may not be going into the sleep mode correctly ... try using system panel (from the market) and figure out which rogue app is causing the problem. Mine usually drains 4-5% at night.. (jm8 stock + voodoo)...

Horrible battery life

My Huawei has a horrible battery life. I'm using stock rom (rooted of course) and the battery drains really fast, like 5-10% an hour even in sleep mode. I have used a battery calibration app recommended by someone here in xda, but I don't think it made any difference. My last Android phone used around 1% an hour, even with data and sync on, but with pretty much the same settings, I can hardly make it through the day with my Huawei.
So, what to do? I don't need the battery to last for days, but having to recharge twice a day at worst is just too much.
My battery drops around 7-10% overnight.
Probably a defective cell?
mine after i installed custom rom (b160) and a battery calibartion in flight mode during my sleep after 7 hours that passed and woke up it was 1% dropped and now 7 almost hours afterwards in normal mode it has dropped 7% with very light use of course...
i want to say just that with gsm active it drained 5% more than in flight mode...
so something must be going wrong , like you don't have a good signal and it uses much power to keep your connection alive and have better signal....
i must say that i have a profile with setcpu when the screen is off with min 122 and max 460...
and just for the record i think that with custom rom also mine was dropping more...
i don't know why although...

Noticed this myself. i use spotify alot on the phone, walking, bicycling, at the gym. and it drains a whole lot of power even in offline mode. but if i set it in flight mode the phone last for hours and hours without even dropping 5-10% of power. but when gsm or data traffic is on the battery life just drains out so quickly! so it is definitly something serously wrong in this rom. Im hoping gingerbread is coming soon to this phone, so maybe all these small issues has been fixed.
I've found highly variable battery life. Sometimes it's awful, almost 50% overnight when it's sleeping on my nightstand, other times it's much better and only drops 7-10% under those conditions.
One thing is Google Maps, even when not in use it seems to suck battery like crazy if it's loaded (and it has a habit of getting loaded even when you don't run it or any apps that use it). There's a long thread on this in the Google support forums, but no sign of a fix from Google yet.
I've found doing a 'force stop' on Maps if it's running often helps, another thing is to reboot the phone after you charge it, that seems to fix it for several days sometimes, but then it starts sucking juice again for no apparent reason, so I tend to reboot it after each recharge. There can also be other apps that due to bugs can suck battery, for a while there app killer did this but the author put a fix out pretty quick and it shouldn't be an issue now.
Just noticed that there's an Android update from Huawei now available for download, maybe that'll fix some of the irritations and help with battery life; I'm off to install it!
where can you find that update? through phone's settings->check for update (in my case it says i got the latest version) or online?
My phone has been on for nearly 48 hours.. charging it right now. I played, connected to wifi, browsed the net, facebook, gmail etc.. and I really played hard on it for a few hours.
30mins ago it switched off, dead battery.. I'm quite pleased with the battery life

Exactly the same problem here. I formatted now both the internal and external SD card, let's see if that helps.
edit: No it doesn't. The problem seems to be that my phone doesn't sleep properly. I charged it to full, then turned the screen off for one hour. App called Spart Parts shows that since last unplugged, time spent without sleeping is 36m.
it took mine 2 weeks to get to the full battery life. now i get 36-48 hours from it.

After 5 weeks i get about 12hrs. No GPS, no 3G. About 10min ago i took the charging cable off. Now Battery History in Spare Parts show that "Since last unplugged" time spent without sleeping is 10m 33s (99.9998%), and time spent with screen on is 3m 23s.
im thinking of buying this phone is it available in India ? also can this device be rooted n what about the custom roms ? are they available as there is nthng on XDA :'( . And what about its battery life even being 1500mah is it so awful ?

Now after factory reset it seems that this is fixed. Over night with Wi-Fi and all sync's enabled, it took about 20% which is quite ok.

The problem is back... For some unknown reason the phone doesn't go to sleep and starts to use more battery.
Battery History:
Other usage, since last unplugged:
Running (100%)
Screen on (3,2%)
Partial wake usage, since last unplugged:
Android System: Total time: 13s
Dialer: Total time: 0s
Maps: Total time: 0s
It seems that reboot helps with this every time. After reboot, running-% is 32.9 when screen on is 6.5%. It would still be interesting and helpful to know what causes this.

Do you mean it's a common bug, or is it normal thing for Android to not go to sleep after few hours of using the phone?

That's not true. My battery history shows that correct(as far as I can perceive) running time.

I get most of the time also. But after charging, at one point (after some time) for some reason the time spent without sleeping goes to 99%. The problem is, that the partial wake usage doesn't show that something is wrong. Usually restart helps, but sometimes it can be already late, because 100% running has already taken quite much of the battery.
Also, when the time spent without sleeping is 99% or 100%, the CPU is still NOT in heavy use. So something just prevents the phone to go to sleep mode, and it seems that it is not the CPU that causes it.

I got it through the phone, it was the 2.2.1 B136SP02 update. Not online at Huawei website. It doesn't seem to have improved battery life alas (or the frequent WiFi dropouts I've had since new, particularly while downloading app updates). Main feature of the update is WiFi tethering/hotspot support, at last...
What seems to have worked for me after a couple of weeks++ of REALLY crappy battery life is a battery stats wipe.
FullCharge while the phone was off. First boot in recovery, battery wipe and then i just let it run close to dry before the first charge (almost 48 hours of medium use). Note here that i am now using the charger that came with the phone because i noticed that my generic usb one had an output of 0.7A instead of the full 1A of the factory charger.
Another point arose however. Does anyone else have stability issues when battery drops below 25%? I am talking about some serious crash/reboot/lag/noradio issues.

Bam. Random. Battery life from amazing to crummy

running a flashed stock 4.0.4 ICS ROM, Rooted.
everything was running great. battery life was one of the more amazing parts of this tablet. then one day last week i had it on the charger half the day, went to go grab it, wouldn't turn on.
after lots of button pushing, swearing, about 30 minutes of it, i put it back on the charger. 10 minutes later i got a blue battery symbol charging and i held down the power button for 30 seconds and it turned on. since then have had no issues with it working, except battery life is poor. the initial time after i used it, the thing lost like a percent every couple of minutes just sitting there. it was dead within an hour and a half or so, barely touched.
i charged it fully, and reset the battery stats via battery calibrator (even though google says that is useless), then i let it drain to 0 with usage and charged it up again. now the battery life is pretty average. i lose about 10% every half hour on wifi browsing the web, screen at anywhere from 15-30% via Lux, and checking to see if anything is running nonstop in the background. so that gives me only 5 hours of total battery life just browsing the web. before i was watching HD movies 2 hours long on almost 100% brightness with some browsing and messing about in the middle and losing 20%.
i have better battery stats installed and the tab is going into deep sleep very well. also it is barely utilizing full speed, it is rarely at 1.2ghz, usually at 500mhz or 200mhz if not deep sleeping.
a couple times i had some partial wakelock issues but nothing bad. but every other day, the battery life just goes fast just doing regular stuff. nothing unusual going on in the background.
anyone else have this happen?
if i do a full reset can that help? or is this a hardware failure and time to call samsung.
The best battery life I have ever had was on Quicksilver 0.9. I got about 13,5 hours with the display on (WiFi off and airplane mode on)...
On a stock rom u should get about 10 hours with the display on.
On cyanogen-mod ROMs I am experiencing the same thing as you. The battery is dead after ~7 hours.
I would suggest to restock the tab, wipe it and just run with the apps you really need. Maybe even try Quicksilver and to be 100% sure u could even flash the ROM when the battery is at 100%.
What does the battery stats in the settings-app say?
battery settings shows nothing that could be a culprit. this thing deep sleeps like a champ.
screen off just laying around i won't even lose a percent an hour. just all of a sudden i went from being able to browse the web on wifi for 10 hours, to 5. all after that weird time the battery drained super fast.
i wiped cache and dalvik cache, same thing.
going to try reflashing with the newer ICS posted recently. UK Q2 based and see what happens.
P.S. how long until i can post more than once every 5 minutes?

Standby Battery Life is awful! N910C

As the title says, standby battery is awful.
I have all the bloatware disabled, only things on push are gmail and facebook messenger.
Cell standby is also sitting at 20% battery usage, no matter what, 2nd on the list behind screen time. Note 3 had exactly the same issue where cell standby is concerned. None of my other phones have had this issue, including my S2 with buggy as hell CM11, OnePlus One, Moto G LTE, etc.
No matter what I do, even with everything disabled and on airplane mode, there's a constant 1% battery drain every hour.
In my Note 3's case, this only happened on stock samsung firmware. When I flashed CM11, the issue went away completely. Something like 0.3% drained per hour instead.
So to me the issue is with Samsung's crappy software. I know the battery life was woeful on the Note 4 anyway before an update came in to fix things up a bit. Maybe they're saving the fixes for 5.0?
I know a new update for the N910C was released a couple of days ago too, but not available on European models yet.
Anyone else having these issues?
I dont have this issue at all my friend if i were u id try a complete wipe 1st, some people have had this issue too so returning could be an answer
Same here...
I only lost 4% battery overnight and don't have this problem too
20% battery loss on standby but mobile data was enabled.
^ you may have a bad app and/or bad signal
I have 4 bars lte at home, 2-3 bars at work, wifi always full signal at both work and home, one is ac 5ghz, other n 2.4ghz, no difference in drain either way.
Ive done a factory wipe 3 times now, even through recovery once. No change. Better battery stats and gsam both report no rogue apps, and ive also tested by having no apps installed, with and without bloatware disabled.
Im not really keen on the idea of voiding my warranty to test other kernels etc, and the only other option is to flash the ank5 update to test.
Ive attached another screenshot showijg the issue better. The drain gets noticeably worse after the first 50% or so, but that could be caused by many things, like inaccurate readings.
Like i say though, 1 of my 2 note 3s had the same issue. Could well be a faulty wifi/cellular chip.
Ignore the time its been on, the same thing happens during a day of heavy usage when in standby, same level of drain constantly.
1%+ may not seem that much to a lot of people, but with my usage i should get through 2 days regardless. It should be less than half of what it is. From the curent reporting in the battery stats, im losing almost 50% of my battery in standby over a day and a half or so.

The only things enabled for sync right now are the basic google apps such as chrome, calendar etc. They rarely sync though, and no other phone I've used in the last 2 years has had an issue with them.
Samsung sync constantly returns errors so I leave that off.
Last thing I'll be trying tonight is a full wipe without disabling any built in apps. Its doubtful, but maybe one of the core shamsung apps are trying to communicate with a disabled app or something. I really don't know.

My n910c is terrible too. 15% battery loss in 3 hours of standby alone! Wtf! Tried every battery saving trick' no location on etc...
i would suggest u do few thing while u get on bed next time,
Full charge your phone and unplug before you on bed,
1. Restart the phone while on charging, after restart go to home screen and lock the screen and unplug then go to sleep, check it at the next morning u wake.
2.Left the phone with your daily apps running, full charge and unplug then go to sleep, check it at the next morning too when u wake.
this is how i solve those apps running not right.
like the screenshot below,
An apps running at night drained 30% battery within 6hours & 30mins & without switch on the screen or touch anything since i'm asleep *with wifi on*
2nd screen shot shown that cm browser running and consume 94% of processing among 30% battery
while cpu only running 20mins since i had weather & sync on during night.
After that i report to cm team and they send me latest version,
after re-install my phone just back to normal.
now my N910c note 4 is consuming 1% every 1.5hours standby with wifi/3g connected *my area 4g only 1~2 bar so i changed to 3G*
average daily usage were 4.5~5.5 hours screen on time with social apps, browsing infomation, checking e-mail every 1or2 hours, reading news with flipboard, news app, drawing something, watch some youtube video & with auto brightness but indoor most of the time.
hope this would help you

I did a full wipe, installed ANK5 update, unplugged at 10pm at 100%, woke up at 7am with 97%. This is what it should ALWAYS be.
However, after the 2nd charge after the full wipe, it's back to what it was, if not worse. Last night I unplugged at 11pm, woke up at 7am with 92% left. That's bang on 1% an hour again.
There is nothing keeping the device awake at all. It's very frustrating.
I can only assume Cell Standby is so high due to the fact that the phone isn't actually doing anything while the screen is off. After a 20hr day with only 1 hour SoT it's sitting at 72% battery left, with cell standby at 31%, just above Device Idle at 29%. It's a mystery to say the least.

Thanks for your post. I'll definitely try restarting etc again beforehand. I'm also considering another wipe, as S-Voice being disabled seems to cause quite a few errors in the camera app. The battery drain increased after I opened the camera app too, even after force closing etc. That could just be coincidence though.
1% every 1.5 hours still seems like a lot to me, but it seems like you have a lot more apps and things running, so it's actually very good!
Very tempted to just root the thing now and throw on a debloated OS and custom kernel.
Last night i go sleep with 10% of battery left, ( im not force closing any application at all - just exit ) when i wake up ( about 7 hours of sleeping ) phone was showing 8%
No data/wifi/gps etc. If you are not using mobile internet, switch to GSM! It takes more than 30% less battery power than 3G
I'm thinking this is a hardware fault of some sort. Maybe battery, I'm gonna replace and see cause tried from full charge placing it in airplane mode to see if signal was causing the problem, didn't touch it, screen off whole time for 2 hours. Upon looking at it I saw I'd lost 7% battery! Omg! In airplane mode?! In 2 hours?! In standby?!!
In normal use there are no Rouge apps or strange readings in battery stats at all. May be hardware fault.
I've had the N910K exynos, 6 hours plus sot battery life
I've had the N910F snapdragon, 6 hours plus sot battery life
This n910c give me 3 hours sot. I'm pissed lol. Right off!!
Thats really weird, it can be issue of the battery. My 910C has about 8/9 hours of SOT ( wifi only ).

At work its pretty poor, usually a bar or two on lte, but no other phone ive had has displayed battery drain like this in standby.
That still doesnt explain why it drains 1%/hr with nothing happening at home though with 4 bar lte and full wifi signal.
Ive also noticed voice calls are taking up significant battery. A 3min call used more battery than 20 mons of screen time at half brightness apparently, unless thats normal.
If its normal, then to me the cause seems to be battery related. If not, then faulty cellular chip.
Also heres some more screenshots.
This is over the course of the day with barely any usage.
The chunks where its awake, that's just when I'm playing music, not a rogue app.
Note the big standby drop at the start, then the standby drop later, both completely different amounts of drainage, yet both when doing nothing.

Anyone else seeing higher idle/overnight drain with 9.0.11?

Hi folks,
A few days ago my never rooted & bootloader still locked OP-direct 8/256 6T took the 9.0.11 OTA, updating from the prior 9.0.7. Each night since then I've had a much higher overnight idle drain than before the update.
For the week or so I had the device prior to the update, I would loose 2-3 % total for an ~8-9 hour downtime. Since the update, I'm losing 10-15% overnight.
Accubattery is installed; it didn't give anything useful but it's limited due to lack of root I think. BBS I don't think runs at all without root.
Of the 370mAh used, only about 15 mAh are accounted for by app usage tracked. The device was in deep sleep for 98% of the time. It doesn't show what else has drained the battery anywhere I can see. Cell standby, wifi, etc.. The phone is kept in a place where wifi is reasonably strong in the house; there's cell service here no problem too.
The device has been rebooted a couple times since the update.
Any thoughts on figuring out why the drain is higher now? I've installed nothing new since day one when I got the device.

Haven't noticed any additional drain on 9.0.11 on mine. Yes, you can run BBS unrooted, you just need to do a couple of adb commands to give the app permissions.
I started using the "deep sleep" mode to turn the phone off at midnight, and back on at 6am, since I don't use it overnight
at all. If I unplug it from the charger at 9pm, at 6am (after it turns off at midnight), the battery shows 99%.
OK thanks. I'll first do some investigating after I get BBS running via ADB commands, and consider the deep sleep option as well if I can sort out why it seems to drain a lot at night.
Normally, on my rooted devices, I would backup, flash the latest version (I'm on latest so no problem), factory reset, then restore the apps/data I care about. But without Titanium backup I'm reluctant to wipe so quickly since backup and restore is more involved. Still trying to avoid rooting this one... but may give in and enjoy the ride.
I didn't get around to messing with this yesterday, but overnight last night I only lost 3%. Not sure why the previous two nights were relative disasters. I'll keep monitoring.
I have heard, that sometimes after an update, it might take a day or two for the phone battery level to stabilize.
I don't root/custom flash anymore. (after I stopped buying bloated carrier branded phones). Stock is "good enough"
for my use, but, I've never had a battery drain on stock, but I've heard that some do.
If it continues, it might not hurt to clear the phone cache.
android has to rebuild its optimization cache after every update. it's normal.
No problems here 6t McLaren all stock, 4g all the time, bt always on
try wipe cache from recovery .
Oh yeah & its quite noticeable after using it for over a week even after wiping Dalvik / Art Cache. @funkwizard
As an update, some nights I lose 3% which is sort of my baseline, and other nights I lose up to 15%, and I have no idea why. Apps are using negligible power. Need to get BBS permissions (I'm unrooted) to track it down I think.

I've been losing about 1% an hour overnight and it's very frustrating, not being able to pinpoint the cause. I am rooted and have better battery stats and gsam battery monitor and all I can tell is that Android system is using a lot of power and there are a lot of wakelocks happening up to 40 or 50 times an hour that seems to be keeping my phone from consistently being in deep sleep
Interesting, and thanks for the reply (thanks button hit!).
Today was my first normal day back to work since getting the phone, and it was a busy day so I didn't use the phone much. It was at about 95% charge when I got to work (topped off in the car, so almost full), and 8.5 hours later it had only lost about 17% power, including about an hour of screen on time due to use during the day. So, 7+ hours of standby and an hour actually on in a few minutes here, a few minutes there, using up 17% of the battery is incredible, best phone I ever had. What I don't understand is why sometimes, not others, it uses almost this much power in 9-10 hours sitting alone, unattended, in an area with decent (2-3 bars) cell signal and very strong wifi. Note when it sits at night it always reports ~95+ % deep sleep (typically 98%), so wakelocks aren't my problem as far as I can tell.
I may go ahead and clear the cache through stock recovery and see if that changes anything. Not sure why it would, really, other than some extra power used to rebuild the cache.
It's a busy week so it may be the weekend before I can do much of anything other than observe...
