Screen does not turn on when SMS is received - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I guess I've a different behavior from others (who want screen remains off when SMS is received)
My sceen used to turn on when SMS is received. However today it does not, screen remains off when SMS received.
I just want to know is there a setting for it coz I can't seem to find it everywhere

I would love for it to stay turned off... When you figure out why its happening, please share lol

Just use Google's new Messenger app instead of the Samsung app and it will stay turned off

How to turn on the display when an email is received ?

When i receive an new email through activesync push (exchange 2007) i have enabled the option to display the message on screen and sound notification but the screen doesn't turn on automatically like when you receive a new SMS so basically its almoste impossible know when you receive a new email.
Can i change this somehow to act like when an SMS is received and turn on the screen ?
thank you
so basically there isn't a way for that ?
Yeah, also noticed that.
Would be nice to have a solution for that.
@Work i have my phone on table and sound/vibrate disabled.
So the only way to see a message is when screen turns on.
Ok, there's the LED, but in a bright room it can take hours till u notice that.
I googled this issue a lot, no luck.
I just get sound and vibrate, no screen message.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who find this odd
I was hoping it was fixed/added on WM6 but its not
Strange that no one has notice or even make a query about this in Microsoft, i find it completely stupid not to act the same way as an SMS/MMS since nowadays i use more the email than texting.
Lets hope for someone to do something about this if its possible
this is killing me!
any hard code developer can do something about this ?? it must be a way to trigger the same procedure that SMS uses in order to turn on the screen or something.
please please for this!

You'd think that Pocket MSN would also do the same wouldn't you? But it doesn't
this is by far the stupidest thing for the WM. I really can even begin to think why they did this, who is the genius behind this idea ?!?
Hell I think its a good idea. I'd hate my screen to come on everytime I got an email! I get a lot of email so that would majorly suck!
Yesbut why not just have it as a selectable option, that would make more sense!
exactly, at least put an option for it! email should be treated like SMS nowadays. yould you prefer creamhackered not to turn on the screen when you reseive an SMS ?

[Q] How do I disable vibrate on notifications?

I know i'm over looking something very simple. I see an option to disable vibrate for calls, but do not see anything for notifications.
TIA gents.
i didnt see it either.
I think they are in the individual apps. Like for SMS, there is a vibrate notification option in the settings of the SMS app itself.

Cool. I searched for hours trying to find out how to do that, lol. I guess that what happens when you're coming from WinMo.
Because it is clearly too much to expect google to make it as easy as windows or an iphone.
For this, and also for alarms, for selecting text, for clicking on phone numbers and urls (not all of which work) in email and calendar entries, etc.
I would be very surprised if froyo fixes any of this.
Maybe the googlies made too much money on the stock that they simply don't care because they already own iphones.
end of rant.

WHY? threaded sms is a top invention of 21st century. I can not think of one reason to disable that. Did you try Google it?

^ Indeed, why would you even want that inbox-sh*t.
i hate it too and would love to know if it can be turned off.... its the first thing i do on a winmo phone. sometimes i just want to keep one particular text someone has sent. maybe its a personal message or some important information i want to be able to get to straight away. id rather keep all the messages seperate so i can see whats what. with threaded texts its buried in a huge conversation. i can understand why people might want it, but theres plenty who dont want it aswell, so why not give us the choice?
I'm not completley sure, but I THINK Handcent gives you that option..
But I may be wrong and I'm kind of tired so don't expect me to be right.

Well you could scroll to the message you want , press hold it and select lock message. Thus of you delete the entire thread and not tick the delete lock messages button, what you would have left is only the locked message.

Me too, I just signed out of it, not only that it makes you "miss" certain notifications (like if someone at 00:12 "likes" your status, then someone comments on a separate photo at 00:20 you'll only be shown the photo comment as it quashes the previous "like")

I have read comments on marketplace about people having these issues and decided to not upgrade for this reason. You can always roll back to version 1.4 if it bugs you that much. I believe its available on android central if you search for it.
log in to facebook.com on a pc check your settings to make sure you dont have notifications checked?

It seems to only go online when you enter the chat panel.. As long as you log out from the chat screen and never go back into it, it appears to stay offline.

Notifications remain the most annoying thing with the app. It regularly misses notifications and will even set missed notification to read so they don't show up on the PC either! Also, it seems to refresh the panel every 5-10 seconds which is annoying
There is a bug report screen in the "about" panel which will report straight to the developer.
Craig
so many problems...so little time
You guys know you can "go offline" right? When you are in the chat panel, hit MENU, and it logs you out of chat...

[Q] How I disable operator balance notification?

Hi!
I am on annoying situation with this. I cannot disable this notification and if I use mobile hotspot long times, these messages start counting background. Messages start to appear after phone´s balance is under 5 euros, and they will appear on every situation after this. In worst case I must tap the screen over a minute and alarm clock is screaming background.
How the hell I can get ridden of these? I guess that deleting SIM-card toolkit will not affect to this.
I have tried to google it, but I cannot find the solution..
I´m rooted and S-OFF.
Help!

This looks like an operator issue, try talking to your mobile operator and ask them to disable the messages.

Not neccesarily if it's being sent / Activated by the operator.
Look on the operator's website. Giffgaff has something similar, and it's just a matter of typing the correct code in to the keypad to turn them on or off.
