Note 4 SM-910C horrible LTE - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I picked up a Note 4 model SM-N910C which is the exynos octacore WITH LTE. I am using it with Tmobile USA in Chicago. I get horrible horrible LTE signal. At my apartment I get .53 dl and 3-4 Upld.
When I first got it I went to about phone and it had arab emirates firmware lollipop. Ive tried at least 2 others and still get crap signal. i had a similar issue with a phone before and I fixed the issue by getting into a secret menu and messing with the lte and prl settings. This phone will not let me do that though. Do I need to flash a different radio? What can I do? I am doing the KIES recovery/reset as I type.

I'm facing the same problem here. I have a SM-N910C from mexico but the original carrier, Telcel, didn't provide android 5.1.1 so I flashed a rom from another country. The problem is that now my signal is really bad, when I'm lucky I get two bars but most of the time is just one or none. I can still receive and make calls outdoors but I loose service as well as data almost inside any building. I was wondering if I can solve that with some configuration or reflashing the radio but I'm not sure.
Could please anyone provide some help and guidance?
Thanks!!

Note 3 Rubbish Signal... wrong modem? help needed

Hi, I bought my note 3 in UAE and I am using it in the UK. I am on Vodafone. I always get rubbish signal in my house. It is on "emergency calls only" nearly all the time. Also the LTE/4G has NEVER worked since I got it on launch (Sep). Whenever I turn the 4G on the H+ sign never comes up. Some people may argue that Vodafone is a rubbish network. I agree too but I think I may need to flash a different modem? My model is a SM-9005. Do I need to flash a different modem to get the 4G to work? Thanks

You can actually try a different ROM or maybe a custom ROM? At the same time, reception might just be poor in your house. So you might need to make do with regular 3G or EDGE. I no for a fact that in my friend's house i ALWAYS have to switch to 2G because 3G reception is never available, I have SM-N900 tho.

what if i flash a different rom/modem?
I just checked and vodafone operates 4G/LTE at 800MHz. On the samsung uae website it says that the note 3 supports 800MHz 4G/LTE
ROM's won't make a difference as it's the hardware on the device itself.
I also noticed the note 3 doesnt have a superb signal reception... For example in my house my moms s3 and dads s4 have full bars where i on my note have one bar less than they do. Little dissapointed

Check phone status in settings and compare it with the S3 and S4 - you'll see it's just the bar's that show different the dBm's are what counts. You'll see it'll be identical to the S3/4

The device itself has the bands. But you cannot access them by changing the modem. The N9005 supports many many bands but different MPN Codes on each device limit it to specific countries.
It's all a legal thing. Radio frequencies are controlled, unless the UAE version supports the exact same frequency that your UK carrier runs on it won't work. Upgrade to kitkat and test it.

[Q] Galaxy Note 3 modem version - improves signal strength?

Hi,
I have had the note 3 since release here in the UK. I have a unlocked version from car phone warehouse on the three network. However I have poor signal at my desk at work if I hold my phone in the right spot I have H+, but the right 'spot' moves around unfortunately. According to their coverage map I should have LTE signal indoors and out. I do have 4g signal if I leave the building. (I am in the center of London)
So as it appears my signal is close but not quite good enough, I was wondering if there is a good modem firmware out there that people have found helps? I am running the latest software updates (the last 1 I installed was the KitKat upgrade).
Thanks in advance
I am on Giffgaff, they use O2. Currently using the NC2 Modem with no issues and great data speed.

Short off topic, but i dont want to create a new thread: You can only upgrade modem in odin of you have "official status", is that correct? How about a TWRP backup of the modem partition? If s.o passes me TWRP backup of the modem partition, can i upgrade/downgrade modems?

Thanks for the info
my current baseband version is N9005XXUENB1
so the NC2 is slightly newer isn't it? am I right in my understanding that the version number is the last 3 characters of the baseband version?
Is there a good resource where I can get the latest modem version from?

My status is not official. I powered off the phone, waited a few seconds and did the button combo for download mode, and it flashed fine
I have a backup of my current rom/modem in TWRP, i havent had to restore it yet so i couldnt tell you.

Yes it is slightly newer by about a month. If you go over to the alexndr Rom thread in the android development section, in the first post he has just the odin package, its about 50mb.

Katkat modems don't seem to be any different btw, seems they've just rebundled and named the original one - Carrier modem *may* (I say may because I seen no difference) be tweaked slightly different but ultimately it's just a placeholder for APN settings really.
Indoors, always tricky.
It could be related to the frequency band your provider is using. The 800Mhz band penetrates solid concrete with ease, but the higher bands can't.
Any metal in the walls? Killer for any digital signal.
Does anyone else experience the same issues with other phones on the same provider in the same spot?
3G is always weaker than 2G, and 4G is even less powerful than 3G. (Because of the higher required frequency). Have you tried enforcing GSM mode? It'll kill your data speed, but at least you're more likely to get a signal.
Thanks for the help guys.
Yes other people have signal issues too, so I am just looking to get every ounce of signal strength I can.
I had a chat with my network last week and apparently before the end of the month they are rolling out a new spectrum but the support guy didn't know which frequency it was. he was confident it would fix my signal issues. (how true this is or not guess I will see!)
I have tried restricting to gsm and it is still unstable unfortunately
According to the coverage map, 4g signal in my post code is very strong, DC-HSPA i'm on the edge of a strong section. but right on the edge so I can understand dodgy signal. Ive just got my fingers crossed over the next few weeks
Silly suggestion, but... Have you tried opening a window? it could add just enough strength for the signal to stabilize.

S7 edge 935FD mobile data issues on t-mobile

I got the S7 edge 935FD on t-mobile , I am running Superman room. I noticed that sometimes having full bars of LTE , my connection is really slow I check it with Speed Test and it is under 0.3 Mb. I installed the recommended Modem and Bootloader, and I also try with different CSCs , like XEF,XSG and XSA. At some places with 2 or 3 bars I got 60Mb with speed test , and in others that my old phone get 18Mb , I got 0.2Mb , and my connection is too slow. I tried also other rooms and I am getting similar results. What I am missing?, Could be my phone?, Is this happening to the S7 international versions in the US?
Thank you

Definitely APN settings are right, I checked in tmobile website and I also call them to be 100% sure.

What band is being used when you connect to LTE?
Dial *#0011# when you're on LTE and click STACK 1 if it's in the first SIM slot, and STACK 2 if it's in the second one.
It'll show you Band information.
Secondly, it could also be because of the carrier aggregation stuff, maybe the Exynos variant of the S7E isn't compatible with T-Mobile's Carrier Aggregated LTE network and hence only uses one band for LTE, which will result in poor speeds for the user.

Bad or inconsistent LTE speeds with International S7 Edge Duos on AT&T

Has anyone experienced bad or inconsistent LTE speeds on the International S7 Edge Duos while on AT&T? I was out walking the dog yesterday and my speeds were ranging anywhere from 0.3 megabits/second to 12 megabits/second depending on which block I am on. This morning, on my commute to work, I had anywhere from 2 megabits/second speeds or 32 megabits/second speeds depending on where I am on the road.
Is the International not nearly as good with using AT&T band LTE? Is there perhaps an APN setting I should be making? Or should I just learn to live with this?
Thanks in advance
No one has encountered this at all? Perhaps it's emblematic of a potential defect?
Im on att using g935fd, no issue with lte. Im ranging from 15-30 mbps depending on the area. im in boston,ma
in dallas with a 935FD and i've been getting average 29mb down/19mb up... check your APN and also consider testing with another sim card if you have one available.
I'm having the same issue. There is definitely something going on with the Duos. I'm on T-mobile and experience weaker signal (10-15 dBm) on Duos than I get on my 935T sitting next to it. I've flashed several modems, csc's and firmwares. Nothing has helped. Even lost signal last week at a clinic and had to tether of my wife's T-Mobile s7 edge.

It got so bad that I am returning the phone. The speeds I was getting was just too low to make it a useful device.
Maybe its the rom. What firmware you guys are using? I flashed the stock g935f PHN firmware, CSC, AP and then OntheedgeLite UX rom.
There was another posst with OP having similar issue. I have issue as well. But flashing BTU csc ap bl and cp helped me gain better 4g around my home, so I thought problem was fixed. but when I go to poor reception areas and phone is switching to 2g/3g bands, I lose 4g unless restart or messing with sim options switching 4g between sim1 and sim 2.
currently on stock samsung touchwiz rom. BTU cp, csc, ap, and bl
Is it missing the appropriate at&t bands ? I'm looking at note duos as an alternative to the ATT version a day it's meant to be the same chipset and that misses one of the LTE bands.

LTE on a Sprint S5 on a European network provider?

Hey everyone,
First of all I want to say that I am not very experienced with flashing. I have done it 2-3 times before on my other 2 phones, so I will not undestand everything you say but I'll try to do.
Yesterday I got a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5 from a friend. As far as I know it is unlocked so I decided to put another ROM that doesn't have that much bloatware. I first tried LineageOS (the latest nightly build for SM_G900P), flashed TWRP before that with Odin, but then I noticed that I cannot connect to my carrier, so then I decided to flash this ROM:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...ment/rom-g900ppca-6-0-1-stock-rooted-t3387717
I flashed the ROM from the recovery, then I flashed the bootloader and modem with Odin. After that success! The rom fired up after 15 minutes of loading and there it was. I was connected to a carrier and had mobile data and I went to bed. So today I noticed that I couldn't get LTE everywhere I go and I started browsing the forums, but I couldn't find anything that could help. The only thing I found was this https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059 , but all the download links were down.
So I decided to directly ask you guys and gals if you have a solution on how to get LTE signal on my phone.
Thank you in advance and sorry if I misspelled or said something incredibly stupid.
From what I know, the best connection you can get with an S5 in most countries in Europe is 3G. Sprint has the necessary band (2100 MHz) that connects to 3G in most countries in Europe. However, when it comes to LTE, the sprint S5 only has bands 25 (1900MHz), 26 (850MHz), and 41 (2500MHz). This is fine in the US for the Sprint Network, but European countries rely mainly on bands 3 (1800MHz), 7 (2600MHz), or 20 (800) for LTE, which are not found in the sprint variant.
I actually spent lots of time myself trying to unlock more bands using the link you posted, but I just couldn't do it. I couldn't access some menus that were necessary for the unlock during the process.
Also, from what I know, the carrier/data connection can only be acquired by using a stock rom such as the one you found. Custom roms like LineageOS will not connect to a carrier.
So every time i travel to Europe with my Sprint S5, i just put stock rom, and have to stick to 3G. So, that's the current situation with Sprint and LTE in Europe. I would be happy to hear any success stories.
I can confirm Band 3 1800 Mhz LTE works on Galaxy S5 900P Sprint on a network in Europe.
