I received marshmellow a while ago, but never received a security update,
Is there any news on that ?
Monthly security updates are for Nexus devices only. No other device or OEM committed to monthly updates, and given how long carriers take to approve software, OEMs couldn't make it work if they wanted too.

Hey guys,
Trying best to help in hopes of us having the LG G Stylo marshmallow update for cricket. After contacting LG, happy to know that we may be receiving the update for our device. See response below from LG:
"Hi, Thank you for contacting LG US Electronics. In response to this inquiry, the LG G Stylo will indeed receive the Marshmallow update for the Android system. However, at this time, I’m afraid we have no final release date yet even though some devices have already received the update. The reason for the release date variation is because software updates follow a certain process. For Android, it is faster to receive updates on Google products (for phones, that’s the Nexus line) or on unlocked/rooted units wherein the update may be installed manually (although not supported by LG as this is a customization). For carrier-specific devices, this may take longer and will vary. After a phone manufacturer like LG prepares the software with the help of the developer (Google who made Android), the update will have to run through carriers like Cricket in order for them to incorporate carrier-specific features – and also test the new software thoroughly on the network. After some collaboration, the carrier will then approve the update and push it out to your device which will then be downloaded and installed through the network signals from your carrier. As such, you may also directly correspond with your carrier if they already have an estimated date for the release of the update. In case that there’s none yet, I’m afraid we’ll still have to wait but please be assured that the G Stylo will indeed be updated to Android Marshmallow like the G series. We hope you find this information helpful. Should you have any other question, please feel free to contact us again via Email, Live Chat, or Phone by calling 800-793-8896. Thank you again for contacting LG! Have a great day ahead and a lovely week! Kind regards"
There is hope afterall! lol
they had previously said June of this year which hascome and gone. Now there is no date at all
And So, When we can see Marshmallow?
I don't think we are! Never heard of a phone that didn't get a single update. Should be class-action lawsuit or something.
I am wondering if anyone knows why the security patch level on my Verizon HTC 10 is from June 1? Isn't their a more recent security update?
Because US carriers are brutally slow to push out updates....
HTC has been the best OEM (other than google itself with the nexus phones) on updating flagship phones the past couple of years...even US Carrier ones...but obviously their unlocked ones get it quicker due to less red tape.

Thats kind of what i figured...I talked to Verizon support and they tried to convince me that it had nothing to do with them and that it was all an Android issue and that the carriers had nothing to do with security updates being pushed to their devices.
Typical BS Verizon response... I recall when I had a Sony z3v which was actually a nice phone, it never even got the advanced calling update it was supposed to! I couldn't use voice and data at the time time, then magically Verizon stopped selling it, and they kept blaming Sony. I know the Verizon variant was a little different than the normal z3 but I had it a year with no update! I think they finally stopped the phone at 5.1...
Hi guys,
It's been a few weeks since I purchased the Galaxy S8 and I totally love the phone.
I saw in the Samsung Blog that they will release Monthly Security Updates OTA.
I was unable to find any Security Updates in May 2017 other than the Update that was to fix the tint issue.
Even checking Settings / Software Update gives that The Latest Updates have already been installed.
Can someone please guide me here?
This is both Samsung being slow and then the carrier adding more lag. Even those of us with unbranded phones got May update just under 2 weeks ago.
May security update just started rolling out a week ago.
My G950FXXU1AQDG Singapore S8 is still on late April updates with April security patch. I am still waiting for May or June updates.

Same baseband on my eu s8, still waiting for that may update that other carriers got already in the country sight <_< .
In Sri Lanka the carriers do not sell the phones on priority. It's all separate sellers. So, no idea here then.
UK, unbranded phone and still on AQDG firmware with April's security updates. It's already June and I'm waiting for May's security. What a joke.

Exactly, I also have unbranded and waiting for the updates.
A couple of weeks ago there was an OTA firmware update. If I remember correctly it said that it fixes bluetooth issues amongst other things. My Android security patch level shows 1 May.
I have the US unlocked S8 (no carrier branding/bloat) and it's on April too. We haven't received the May update yet.
This is my security patch level. unbranded sri lankan version. still on April security patch. not good samsung

Strange that it is not rolled out to all unbranded at the same time.

This isn't a google phone so you really shouldn't expect monthly updates, no one else does them anyway, maybe blackberry... maybe.

Yes, I'm aware this is not a Google phone but the whole point of monthly "security" updates is a bit moot when Samsung (or any other vendor) is unable to release them... monthly. We're not talking about extra software features or new Android releases. These are security patches supposed to keep your device safe and up to date with the latest threats.
Finally, "no one else does them anyway" is a ridiculous excuse. They all should and especially with devices at this price range. We pay premium, we should at least have proper support. It's about time companies got their head around this unacceptable situation with late updates and support.
Yes they should but they don't, now what? This is a google issue too, hopefully this new treble project will speed this up, until then it's wishful thinking.
Samsung does indeed release new builds with security updates every month and sometimes even more often, just not for all the regions. So you'll see one region getting a new build and the next month another region gets a newer builds but not the previous region. The only way to be sure you're up-to-date is manually downloading and flashing the most recent build with Odin.

I've noticed that to, I've got the S8 Unlocked and haven't seen one update yet.
Sorry for bringing up this thread, but I'd like to know more about Samsung's update policy.
For how long are monthly security updates guaranteed? And what about system updates? Thanks

I'm not aware of any guarantees but history shows 2 major Android version upgrades and 4-5 years security updates (not necessarily monthly though)
I am still on april security patch and its december now.
Thought I should share this for anyone having the same problem as me.
My TA-1033 was no longer receiving OTA monthly security updates, last patch was January 2018.
Apparently, the February update was the full 8.0 upgrade which hasn't been released into the Australian market but was in India.
So I did a factory reset with no SIM inserted, download a VPN connected to an Indian server, did the check updates and, lo and behold, there was the full Oreo upgrade waiting to download. Since then, my phone did all the security patches right up until May. For the 8.1 upgrade, I wasn't connected to the VPN so it had a verification error, I just connected to download again and it worked fine.
I assume Nokia don't want to do an OTA update in Australia because of band differences or something but haven't noticed any problems so far (disclaimer:that's not to say I won't but am prepared to take the risk knowing I'm getting all my security updates).
Maybe the Australian market has been too weak so they're not developing here but it's pretty ****ty because I always had Nexus devices before they were discontinued and bought a Nokia on the basis that it was vanilla Android with full, up to date security patches. It's poor form for Nokia to leave us hanging like that.
Anyway, hope it helps someone else searching for a fix to the same problem.

Its because Australia has only 10 millions of total population and among those not everyone bought Nokia, but Indian market have 1.25 billion people and among those arround, not sure but, 2-3 million peoples bought Nokia 6, thats why it lauched India first, please don't take this as country insult, m just telling thay marketing works with only people not with country
China have the largest population in the world, thats why every Nokia phone launches first there then everywhere.
I think h get my point
My V35 doesn't want to update to pie with the $10 AT&T prepaid sim card, i tried forwarding the date 5 days and it checks for updates but it says that its "up to date" i've done this method more than 10 times and no success. The sim card did work at first updating the phone from the december update to the april update (security) in June.
Android Version: 8.0.0
Android security patch level: April 1, 2019
I know I'm right with you. I'm in straight talk and have gotten all the updates to the march security patch v350AWM12j. But have not gotten any ota for Android 9.0? I recently ordered an ATT sim to give that a shot but I guess we will see. Just wish LG would release a downloadable version!

AT&T won't let them.
Same with Sprint LG phones.
Ugh! Well them both working together to because this is truly unacceptable! I don't know what the difference is between a security update and a software update as I received security updates just fine.
Got to
A update this morning and brought to awm 20 c.
This was at my house which has no AT&t signal so I'm just on Wi-Fi
Guess it's just a waiting game then? Slow rollout!!!
