Never thought I'd make this upgrade.... My Verizon Note 4 is being traded in for a ... T-Mobile Note 4.
10 years and 5 lines on Verizon. I don't see a phone I can actually upgrade to from the Note 4- so it makes sense to get a rootable, rom-able Note 4. I'd be perfectly happy with that. I don't think that trade is for everybody, but I see nothing coming in 2015 that's any advancement I want to live with.
Just to let you know how it turned out moving out of my Verizon Note 4 and taking my family with me (I think that's relevant for this forum- mods, if it's not, you can delete my post), here's how it worked (unlimited talk and text):
Traded my VZW Note 4 (6 gigs data Plan) --------> TMO New Note 4 (10 gigs).
Porting over a VZW Note 3, 2 gig plan -------->10 gig plan
Trading a Note 2 in for a New Note 3, unlimited data --> 10 gigs
Changing one flip phone to Galaxy core Prime -----------10 gigs
Porting over one flip phone -----------no data
VZW: 233/month. T-Mobile: 168/Month. Fortunately, In my area Tmobile actually has better data/voice coverage than VZW.
I think I'll take the extra dollars and get a nice big battery. I have no problem living with that for a year or two.
Are you doing their 4 lines/10gb special that they have going on? I saw it on their site the other day and was considering it. Not because of root, but because Verizon is becoming my least favorite company lately.
Are all the phones new? When I built the plan and added in new phones, I was only saving like 30 bucks difference from what we pay on Verizon for the same data and phones.
I am seriously considering doing the same thing. I'm looking into coverage maps now. Does anyone know some good, up to date (and unbiased) places to find coverage map comparisons for a particular area?

2 out of 3 are new. Note 4 new, note 3 certified, core prime (El cheapo, but ok android) new.
Hands down t-mobile wins speed tests here.
Vzw tried to save me. Told me their new plan would be awesome. I would go from 1 unlimited, 1 6gig and 1 2gig to 3 total gigs for the whole family. I said "that sounds crazy... ". They said... "no really, you can use wifi!!!"
I'm stupid.... but not THAT stupid.
And yes, it's the 10 gig/4 phones plan on tmo.
Just a quick follow up note on how my changeover (after 10 years with Verizon, with 5 household lines) turned out.
I'm sitting here with a brand new, rooted note 4 with a killer custom rom, set up exactly how I want it
-- on a much improved 5.1.1. Battery and lag issues: *Poof*
It gets better. I have an extra smartphone line in my 5 phone household... and I'm saving 50 dollars a month.
It gets EVEN better.
My employer can hear me now when I call into work. I wont miss them telling me my voice was "dropping out".
Oh, but it gets **MUCH MUCH** better.
In 10 years, I never saw over 20 Mbps from VZW, and most of the time at home, my Verizon wireless could have been beaten by an average Fischer-Price Modem(sic).
Fired up my new T-Mobile Note 4, turned off the home WIFI and ran the Ookla speed test. I almost fainted.

Ah ok. I live in southern California and get great coverage on verizon. I still have 2 lines on unlimited data, but if big red ever changes that I'm gone!

Same here. If ever they touch my data, my wife and I are out. I would not mind being able to have Root again. But for now, unlimited data is king. If only someone could find a way to turn all relevant radios for the Verizon network on one of the other networks phones. Then I would most definitely be getting another Note4. But it seems, even though there is a thread out there which proves it is possible, no one has tried. Oh well, it will happen eventually. Regardless, I still have Unlimited. To the OP, very happy you got more for less and better for that matter. I like to hear when those who can, do stick it to EVilrizon.

I was so done with Verizon screwing us over in terms of price, service, and locking down our phones that I threw away that unlimited line with all the others. Just look what it did to the character of this forum... it's a pretty dead place. 3000 posts in development here, 85000 posts in development at the T-mobile Note 4 forum. Verizon will lock down every significant phone into the future as quick as it can. I refuse to "moo".

I hear you on the being screwed part. Out of this world pricing. But, I just can not shake the unlimited data thing. $30 for unlimited? That is a good deal by pricing standards. But voice pricing? That is where I get screwed.

I am going to try TMO I think, especially since I'm not getting the Note 5. I have gotten the new release every year, but Sammy really screwed the pooch on this one.
Here is a question. Is there anyone here willing to try and unlock the appropriate radios on their TMobile Note4 to see if it works with a Verizon sim? I am getting fed up with this Verizon Note4. This lock down is unreasonable on so many levels.

As many I'm sure are aware now either Tmobile or Samsung has locked the bootloader of all US variants. Are any of you guys returning your phone because of this? If you are what will you be switching too? I'm debating if I should get a note 5 or just skip out on Samsung this time for really pissing me off!
I really wanted to keep this phone. It is absolutely gorgeous and runs great. I cannot fathom paying almost $800 for a phone that I cannot root and truly customize to my liking. So back to Tmobile I go today to return my Titanium Edge. Still have some time on my remorse period thankfully. Will you still keep your phone knowing we may never acquire root?
Im considering it. I went from lg v10 to this. Might go back to v10 its only thing comparable but its lacking....and the g5 looks to be total crap.
i feel the same way. does the international version supports lte bands for tmo
I read about the locked bootloader yesterday.
I was ready to trade in my LG4 for the Edge, but I'll be holding off.
I may hold onto my G4 and take a look at the G5, although I don't care for the modules or smaller screen. Maybe the Edge ewill get unlocked. Maybe not. I'm in no rush to purchase a new device.
I just found some of the latest bootloader lock/unlock? news on xda:
http://www.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7-bootloader-lock-explained-you-might-not-get-aosp-after-all/
Well this sucks.. I've been flashing my phones since the G1 (HTC Dream) days and not being able to root is kind of a deal breaker... I do like the use of Samsung Pay but I would gladly do away with it if I could root my device. I'm hopeful the devs will be able to work around this somehow..
I'm still in my remorse period so maybe I'll jump to the Google ship and have full blown freedom over what I want to be able to do with my phone.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
I'll be sticking with mine. As much as I want root, Samsung did a fine job with their flavor of Marshmallow imo. Kinda sucks though, I switched over to T-Mobile from ATT and having an unlocked bootloader(At least history of this) was certainly a selling point.

The phone is a beast no doubt but this locking of the bootloader on even the TMO version is very sad. I had just put my Note 4 into its coffin and sealed up the package. I then proceeded to read the article on the front page. [emoji22] [emoji22]

Very sad indeed... Learning of locked bootloader was like a punch in the stomach. I spent many hours transitioning from ATT and was looking forward to extended possibilities of this phone on T-Mobile.
I've still got a small thread of hope that T-Mobile will take action on this. If not, hopefully an exploit will come to at least obtain root
I have faith that something will come our way. My G4 on T-Mobile didn't have an unlocked bootloader to begin with but we eventually got things working and I believe now you can officially unlock it.

I'm on day 2. Will wait a week to see if things change, otherwise I'll be returning it.
Since I'm a user of the gearvr I'm keeping it . There are some custom kernels that worked with the gearvr on the note 4, but eh. ..

Enabling/disabling it doesn't seem to do anything. You can't flash a custom recovery no matter what the status of that toggle is.
I remember Motorola did the same thing with the Atrix and At&T...but they still found a way to root it. Have faith people!
Jumped (JoD) from Note 5. Have til Tuesday for the remorse period but I'm keeping my S7E. Still a solid phone even without root, which I'm sure will get figured out soon even with a locked bootloader.
Plus, my 3 jumps reset in July and there isn't much between now and then to use my last jump on. G5? No. (M)10? No.
I'm happy with the S7E and root will be a nice bonus once we get it.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
I'll still be keeping it as it's a wonderful phone. Used my jump from a 6s+ but I also have a 6P in case I have a ROM itch that needs scratched
Just got the s7 edge. Awesome phone, I just ordered a case for it and should be coming sometime next week. Am I the only one who finds the edge a little hard to hold? I feel like I'm constantly pressing on the screen just by holding it with both hands. Back to the topic.. How big of an obstacle is having a locked bootloader? Someone please clarify and explain this like I'm five. Thank you! Regardless, awesome phone but I'm an android user for the root.
Haven't received my BOGO edge yet, but if my wife's S7 (non-edge) is any indication, it's a wonderful device. I've rooted everything I've owned up to my note 5, but I think I'll keep this stock for Samsung pay. I'll really miss the flexibility of root, but I'll still have my note 5 (and moto x pure for that matter) to play with, should I feel so inclined.
I never rooted my s6, still this isn't a problem for me.

I didn't root my V10 when I had it. First Android phone where I didn't have a need to do it. I got 7 hours of SOT with this phone yesterday. I think I'm over the whole rooting thing. I was doing it mostly to block ads anyway.
So there have been announcement from Samsung related to stopping the production of the Note 7, but I have not seen anything official calling for a recall.
Has the CPSC launched an official recall?
Has Samsung said anything more than that we should stop using the device and return it if we can?
I am holding out for the official recall, as of right now Samsung is not even offering a bill credit for returning the device. The first go around they offered $25. I went to AT&T yesterday and they said they would take the device back, but there would not be another bill credit.
Just curious if there has been an official recall or process for receiving a refund for the device. I figured we could also use this thread as a place to track the options once the recall is made official.
Not official but att and as far as I know all other carriers take it back no questions asked.
They added original and replacement devices to the http://www.samsung.com/us/note7recall/ so I would assume both returns will prompt a 25 credit by the carrier or third party gift card.

from what ATT told me.... that to get the 25 credit, i had to chose another samsung phone to replace my note 7 I had returned, and also I had to eat the 20.00 upgrade fee too, ATT would`t refund that, only the first Next payment I had paid.
From ATT website:
Customers with a recalled Galaxy Note7 may select a Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, or Galaxy S7 active or any other smartphone, and may also return any Note7 accessories. If a customer chooses another Samsung device, he or she will receive a bill credit of $25 per device within 1-2 bill cycles.

Depends on who you get to talk to at AT&T. I got the $20 access charge waived from att for my replacement. This time I'm returning it and using my wife's iPhone 6+ until I get the iPhone 7+ 256gb I ordered. I think it's time for an OS change. I have never used an iPhone before so this will be fun.

yeah I thought about change to Iphone 7+, I got one for my wife for wedding anniversary present, and I played with the zoom camera takes really nice pics, but she has had some issues with hers, and it might have to get a replacement, sometimes when try to wake it up with the home button, it sometimes it takes few tries to get it to wake up, and taking pics the camera will just close with out touching anything, and she has had it lock up few times and just sit there and is not responsive at all, shes not power user, so who know`s, and when it happens........ she said i should have just keep my iphone 6+:silly:
I'm going to miss you guys D:
I want to hold out but can't help but worry about when or where it will burst into flames…. It's stressful I tell ya.. Lol. I don't want an s7 edge had it the first recall and didn't like it only one that even close is the. LG V20 but doesn't come out till the 24th or so…… so I'm just at a loss on what to do.

I think im just going to keep using my N5. If rumors are true the S8 should be good (if it doesn't explode lol) and they are going to bump up the release date to Feb next year. Ill tell you this much though, its going to have to be amazing and Samsung better offer a deal to those of us that had to deal with this n7 fiasco.

Here is my dilmemma. The Note 7 was my very first note and I absolutely love it? But with the nail in the coffin on it by Samsung, I'll reluctantly give it up. I have my S6 still as I bought the Note 7 outright to avoid using my upgrade. So what would you do? Get a refund, go back to the S6 and wait for the Note 8 (if there will be one), or go exchange for the S7 edge.
If I refund or go back to the S6
- I'll miss the AOD
- I'll miss the stylus for writing myself notes will screen off
- People edge
If I go with the S7 Edge
- downgrade to 32 GB (my S6 is 64 gb)
- has been out for a while now, so will be replaced in Feb 2017.
- no loss of Samsung Pay, Gear Fit 2 (same for the S6)
My 256 GB SD is on it's way from the last exchange. What would you do? Please not negative comments. It is what it is with the recall.
I refunded and when back to the Note 4. My opinion the Best Note in the series now that the 7 is dead. 2 year old tech I know but I wanted nothing to do with S7/7Edge or any other device. I have no problem waiting til S8 time
I have to wait until I can talk to sprint because I am in a crappy situation with all of this (I am sure others share the same issue) but I gave my old phone back in, don't have any other sprint phones, and I really think taking the S7 or S7E is a mistake at this point since they will be replaced so soon. The LG V20 looks promising, but I was thinking I'd just pick up a used Note 4 and use that, had a Note 4 with TMO and it was awesome and i could settle for it for now and await the new "S8 S8E" I am sure is to come or longer for the return of the Note line. Maybe we'd see an earlier release of the new Note since this one got botched.
Honestly if they just would "fix" the problem with the Note 7, even if it took until early next year, I'd happily own one again.

Go back to the S6. S7 is nice, but Note 7 was...way better. It is not worth paying money for the S7 after having the Note 7. Save your cash for now and enjoy your free $250--256gb mircosd card.
Same dilemma, no other option but LG V20 and or Google Pixel XL. I hope Samsung will let us keep our note 7!

As much as I want to keep it, it doesn't make any logical sense. Accessories will disappear, support on here will die, will be no software fixes for anything along with updates, if your phone breaks, can't get a replacement. If you end up having any kind of signal problems you will be auto blamed for your phone. If your phone does catch fire (personally I think any reports post replacement are false hype to kill samsungs hold on the cell market) you are going to be held 100% responsible for any damages.
I still think they are going to get black listed. Don't forget the carriers forced this second recall, not Samsung. If you've paid for a phone they can't really make it inoperable, but they can black list it off their network.

You hit the nail right on its head with your post. I was thinking of keeping my replacement since I've had no issues but concerned more about support. This has been my favorite phone from any device I've owned. However I couldn't purchase a Zerolemon for it because of the issue, (received an email directly), no root support since mine updated out the box, updates and everything else is an issue. Back to my Note 3 I will go with Talk and surf with Moars Rom, exposed and etc.
On another note, (no pun), I went to Best Buy and was checking out S7 Edge. It's a lil smaller but it's does have the option to root, lemon charger cases available, the support and most of the features the Note 7 had..
Has ANYONE went to the S7 Edge and have no regrets?
I just picked up the S7edge earlier today. It is a tad bit smaller but, I don't really notice too much. I stuck an otterbox defender on it so it feels a little bigger now. Speedwise it runs as fast as my note 7 did. Has most of the features of the note 7 except the s pen of course. I like the spen but honestly I didn't use it that often anyways. I think in time Ill get used to it. I got my upgrade back some how in the whole process of all the exchanges Ive done so whenever a new one comes out Ill upgrade again. lol.

I have no idea what they did. The guy at sprint store was having a hard time with my sero plan so he got on the phone with sprint. Ten minutes later he gave me the receipt and I walked out the door with upgrade reset and the s7edge exchange. Will see if they figure it out later but I'm not saying anything. It remains to be seen how good the radio is in this thing. It works about the same for me in all the areas Ive been today. Good luck with your exchange tonight at BB.

My 256 GB SD is on it's way from the last exchange. What would you do? Please not negative comments. It is what it is with the recall.

I just exchanged mine today for a S7 edge
Exchanged mine for the S7 Edge. Real happy with it.
Could have gone back to my old phone and gotten my upgrade back, but upgrades are really crap now. They stick you with the $25 subsidized phone charge on the bill, comes out to $600 for the life of the contract.
I'll just buy all my phones outright and stay off contract.

I refunded and when back to the Note 4. My opinion the Best Note in the series now that the 7 is dead. 2 year old tech I know but I wanted nothing to do with S7/7Edge or any other device. I have no problem waiting til S8 time

agree, Note 4 was amazing, sadly my zerolemon 10,000mah battery killed it (weight when dropped) and had to revert back to note 2, which is solid also. I'm stuck too. S7E is almost dead. Google phones never live up to hype and well I'll I always said I'd never own an iphone but man...it's almost pushing me that way and my whole house is samsung, all tvs, washer/dryer, 5tablets, 4 cellphones, 5 laptops...lol

How much of a refund did you get? The full regular price for the Note 7?

Naw, I was on Easy Pay option so I just paid the tax on the phone.
Got that full amount back along with Zagg screen protector and Wireless Charging stand refunds

So I would imagine since the Note 7 I have is paid off no contract or lease, I will get the full amount back for my phone

I have to wonder about those folks that bought them from eBay and/or Swappa. Sprint "says", it will take all. So I wonder at what price will they be refunded or credited towards another phone.
Ok so many different forums started... I'm leaving my rant here.. Haven't read all these and I'm not...I'm on phone right now with Verizon as I'm writing this... I ordered the s7 edge to replace my note 7. She said
(1)Samsung is going to send out an update to disable our notes.
(2) when you trade in your device your locked into a 2 year contract. The 1 year upgrade Samsung doesn't apply to us.. She said that it only applied to new devices... She said that the note 7 is being played add if it never existed. So I asked well my phone is cracked on the back I can go through insurance and get a s7 and keep my upgrade. She said no assurion is acting like the phone doesn't exist also.. What about the money I paid into the insurance.. She said today should be refunded also back to you.
So in saying this. Buy the phone you want for the next 2 years, make sure the refund you also your insurance money. I don't know what I'm going to do or get now... As I told her if the phone never existed I would still have my note 4.. Not locked into a 2 year contract for a inferior phone

That's why Verizon and Samsung can kiss my ass. I'm not downgrading to make them happy. I'll take. My chances. Something happens, I'll buy a Note 4. Screw them. The Verizon people are clueless idiots anyway. You ask 10 of them, you get 10 different answers.
Call back, you will get a different answer. If you don't like that one, go to Chat and get a different one again.
Like this one. "There will be no further updates to the Note 7" then.... "Samsung will send an Update to disable all Note 7's".
heh heh heh....

If you block updates then this isn't an issue but the carriers may disable the IME#. Normally if an IME is disabled the phone doesn't immediately stop working, it can just no longer be activated.
Ha, well I've been ignoring the green battery update for a while now, and I'll continue to ignore it. I cancelled my order for the S7 Edge even though the clueless Verizon tech told me that upgrade wouldn't be held against me and I'd still be able to upgrade anytime if something I like comes out. I'm not green enough to fall for that one Big Red! Taking my chances also, until the next Note drops or something similar.

Yep. If an IMEI is blocked your phone gets "suspended". It's like you didn't pay your bill. This is a bad situation for every Note 7 user out there... Very disappointed but hopefull for a killer lineup next year

Killer line up that I'm not eligible for until the year after lol

Is there a deadline to return the note 7 and get your money back? I'd like to keep it until the s8 or new note comes out but worried they will charge me in full for it.
I just got done discussing the whole deal with a manager. Told me that all Notes must be returned or we'll see a charge for the full amount in our next bill. Take it for what it's worth. I wouldn't put anything past these a$$ clowns.

Like we've been saying talk to 10 different reps, get 10 different answers. I'm not sure they can do that, if you haven't broken anything. Recall or not.

Hey, it's something. But I don't recall anyone's data catching fire. Besides, the real injuries were suffered having to deal with the phone swap....twice. But looking on the bright side I suppose $2.67 is nuthin' to sneeze at. That is, for the lawyers because they can multiply it by 2 million.
I actually called them, to get in on it lol...But waiting to hear back from them to see if they can put in an addendum to add the carriers. About locking is into another 2 year contract.. Now if that could be achieved it would be worth it

Hope it works out for you. I know there will be other lawsuits in the future. One's that may yield a bigger settlement to us users.
It's pretty typical for members of a class action suit to have to agree not to hold Samsung accountable in the future when the suit is settled. This mean any subsequent suits are not able to be brought by the members that signed on to the last one.
Oh I'm not signing up to be in lawsuit.. Just wanting to give more ammo..I mean you're right..About more lawsuits, but the next one and the one after that will use the info from the previous litigation I assume

If Verizon tries to charge me for a device they willingly erased all charges for they be facing a class action lawsuit. This recall is also voluntary. Samsung had to put the recall out, but we don't have to participate. Verizon just wants us to, to clean things up on their end. I don't foresee them being allowed to charge us for something they dismissed. People don't participate in recalls all the time. They don't repossess or pull car notes if the owner doesn't participate.
Where does it say in the text message from Verizon that this is voluntary.. Everything I see from Verizon said this is mandatory..ok I'm wrong. Samsung is saying it's a voluntary recall, but if you call Verizon they say it's mandatory... And they will be turning off phones.

I used up a lot of my minutes and went over my minutes trying to get this whole thing handled, so I asked verizon for an refund and the refund was provided. Very easy.
