Is there an app for adblocking in the galaxy store? I thought I read about one a while back. I searched in the store but nothing came up.

Well that's odd. I used it for a while and it ran just fine.
I've been using Adgaurd for the past week and it works just fine for me. Haven't noticed a hit on the battery either.

This. Adguard is so awesome I purchased the Lifetime licence. (40% off until the 5th). It blocks browser ads as well as app ads. And while it can (and will certainly) show up in the stats with a pretty high usage, that's not the truth, as it used a local VPN to remove the ads, so when Adguard shows up in the stats with X mb consumed and Y time on, those are just really other apps that went through the VPN.
Here's a really detailed report about Adguard and battery usage.
AdAway is my favorite, but I don't think it's in the play store anymore.
Edit: oops, forgot that AdAway requires root.

Block This would kill my internet, and NetGuard would kill itself off constantly. AdGuard works well, and yeah, I snagged the lifetime license with the sale going on.
So far adblock plus seems to be working well for me. Thanks guys. What is that vpn stuff some of them have going?

For those of you using a vpn based ad blocker like adguard, do you leave it on 24/7 or only turn it on whenever you need it?

First phone ever that I don't have root right off the bat. Biggest thing for me is all the ads. It's driving me crazy! Anyone have a non root block ads method? I've tried adblock plus and adguard. Neither does the job.
Adguard does if your premium otherwise I believe it's only browser ad blocking

Ah. Didn't know that. Looks like I'm going to have to breakdown and buy the premium
Good recommendation I had never heard of this app. Works great from what I have seen so far. Thanks again!
Yeah I use it on all my devices personally, works well

Root is the reason I haven't bought the S7 yet. Waiting a few to see if it becomes available. If not, I'll stay with my S4. Pathetic I know lol. But I FINALLY was able to root the S4 on OF1 a couple months ago and there's no way I'm going to go back to a crippled phone.
What kind of ads are you talking about? Ads outside of a standard pop-up in the web browser?
Ads period in browser, free apps that have their ad banners etc
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
Like MrWicked says. For example, if you play words with friends, yeah, I know, I'm lame, it has and ad banner as well as an ad after every move. Sometimes it's a video ad and there is no way to just exit or skip it.
There is a link from their site back to the dev link that opens an xda discussion on it's release back in 2014. It's 51 pages long, whew! I'm going to check it out as it sounds very good if it works with my antivirus and firewall, Bitdefender. They may bump heads.
Thanks for the info!
I know they've been mentioned in other threads, but can't remember which ones. They're probably also super buried in those threads. So, yeah, what do you use?

The vpn is local, not going to a remote server - you aren't passing any data to their servers (outside of the licence check).
I've been using Adguard for the past few months, works great.

You can't, it's part of how Android does VPN.
Adguard is very good.

nah.. I get about 6 hours sot and 22hrs with it enabled all day. Also use it while streaming music with screen off on YouTube. My battery doesn't last much longer without it enabled. I think you think it uses a lot of battery because all traffic goes through it so it looks like its power hungry in battery stats.
Adgaurd browsers for android ?
Started using Block This. It's great. Creates a local VPN on your device and filters out all ads. https://block-this.com/how-to-install-blockthis.php
Sent from my SM-G935T using XDA-Developers mobile app
I ended up removing Block This cause it was causing problems with some Tmobile services like Wifi calling and I think it was the reason why some apps were unable to launch.
Netguard. Works well with wifi calling and open source
Regarding Adguard, is there anyway to remove the "VPN is activated by Adguard" in the notification list?

I'm asking because I always used adaway on my rooted note 4. When I updated to marshmallow the old version of adaway I had been using for years wouldn't run. I tried adguard and it blocked that too. I'm not rooting my edge so the adaway that works on rooted marshmallow is useless. I don't want to update and be agreivated by ads.
Mine works fine
Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
Mine works fine. Although google blocked SSL filtering with user certificates for apps outside of the browser which sucks.
Is this a unicorn? Can I block ads while on mobile data and/or WiFi?
Adaway?
Adblock plus?
Something else?

Blokada is the app I use. Both are open source and no root solutions.
If you have root, try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mx17.overridedns

AdGuard is what I've been using for years now. Paid for lifetime licenses for 2 devices. No root needed.

I get ads in free apps, while on cellular but I don't on wifi with adaway.
AdClear does, but you have to install the package from their website. It also blocks in App ads.

I use this to block adds

Does a good job blocking adds for me.
I use moaab (mother of all ad blockers). I'm not sure about over Wi-Fi since I don't use Wi-Fi often, but I think it might work on it.

MoaaB works on both... It uses the hosts file which is system wide and even in apps that call home...
If you want white space removed... Blokada does this... But... AdGuard does it better...

It depends on what you want. If you want to block ads on websites, install Firefox Mobile, and then install the uBlock Origin extension. It will block most ads on web pages, no matter if you are on wifi or cellular.
Anyone using a VPN and ad blockers on the s10+? I used to use adguard, but now it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions on what to use?

I can confirm this, coming from a OnePlus 6t the one thing I was missing not being able to root was ad blocking. I got Adhell3 up and running, pretty easily actually and now I don't miss root.

I'm using the Adguard (3.0.291), and it works fine.
You need to download the app from their website.
https://adguard.com/en/adguard-android/overview.html
I was also able to use AdGuard (3.0.291). I moved to Adhell3 to use in conjunction with a vpn.
Both have worked great though.

The Adhell3 dev put together some scripts that pretty much automates building:
https://gitlab.com/fusionjack/adhell3-scripts
It's much easier to me than trying to hack a prebuilt app. Plus, you know you have the latest and greatest version.
Most annoying party will be rebuilding every 3 months when the edu Knox key expires.

Dns and vpn in general are not a threat.
A malicious dns provider could redirect your traffic to a clone of your banking site.
A malicious dev or vpn could play man in the middle and copy or snoop on all your traffic.
Really is about who you trust. Turning vpn and your selected dns off means you trust your service provider more. Which is prob fine.
My vpn is provided by ProtonVPN, I trust them. I use the OpenVpn app and trust them, so I leave VPN connected 24/7
