So for those like me who purchased a virgin mobile legend we won't get it. Not sure what to do then.
Although it is a virgin phone, all I did to it was unlock it to use with Rogers. What should I do?

i have a virgin legend too so am in the same boat...not really surprised that virgin is not coming out with the update - welcome to canada
i really want to flash the unbranded froyo rom that came out today but unfortunately it doesnt look like its possible now...
until we can change our cid's or have a resigned ROM with our cid (BM___001) we would have to root and go with cyanogen 6.1 or another custom rom (not my 1st choice)..
if anyone has a workaround please help us out...thanks in advance
Well I wouldn't mind trying a few ROM's, but I'm a complete join with this stuff. I suppose I need to learn now...

I bought a Legend from Virgin mobile in August. I became tired of their games and recently purchased a sim card from Bell and put it in the Legend. Guess what? It worked no problem. I can tell you I never unlocked my phone. The Virgin Legend did not have any Virgin mobile software or wigets in them. The only place I saw the word Virgin mobile, was in the network operators list, (mobile network settings), and in network operator name,(about phone, settings). These changed from Virgin, to Bell when I put the Bell sim in. I am now wondering if my phone is still branded to Virgin. If it is not, I would suggest to the OP that you terminate your account with Virgin on the basis that they ended your upgrade path, then take your phone over to Bell, or maybe even Rogers. that said, how do we know that rogers would care to license an OTA upgrade for a phone they never sold? At least Bell sold the phone for a few months.
I got my phone from Virgin as well and I am using the modaco stock froyo rom. It is basically stock except it's rooted. The experience will be exactly the same (unlike using other custom roms) Trying to make the new ruu work on a Virgin phone is probably not gonna be much simpler than rooting, so you may as well go the rooting route.

you realize bell=virgin right? bell discontinued the legend so you wont see an update from them either...
Not so my friend. Check out post #14

I figured they (virgin or bell) would either do it really late or not at all. So I debranded it, but got the same error as in the other threads during the upgrade.
Then I decided to try CM 6.1, and the only thing i regret is not trying it sooner. Never going back to sense again, CM is cleaner, faster, with lots more options.

It's based on the vodafone rom that came out couple weeks ago but there is nothing about vodafone in it (no logo nor junk app). It should be identical to the one that came out today (at least from the end-user point of view anyway)
Here is the link:

You guys really need to stop emailing unknowledgable "support staff" and wait for official announcements like this one from the Virgin Mobile Canada twitter feed:
"android update! we'll be offering android 2.2 froyo update for htc legend in mid-january. stay tuned for details."
Looks like official Froyo for our Legends after all!
couldnt possibly wait until jan and dont want any bell stuff on my legend so installed the official htc unbranded froyo rom....

Yeah, I couldn't wait either and put Cyanogenmod on my Legend. My wife will be getting the Virgin update when it's available
Hey guys!
Just to be sure, is Virgin Mobile software version the same as the Bell one?
If so, that means if Virgin get the update, us with a Bell phone will get it to?
Virgin announced the Vibrant's update, and it was rolled out to Virgin, Bell and Sasktel so I assume so yes.

Enough already.....when is this thing gonna be released?
Probably sometime after they are done with the U.S. Be patient.

Ha, that's just plain funny. Back in May when Mobile Syrup (quite wrongly) announced Canada was getting the ics update for the gtab 10.1 by the end of the week, there were literally pages of Americans *****ing and complaining about how it was unfair that Canada should get it first.
As per normal, you got it first and are telling a Canuck to be patient!!!!!! LOL!!!
p.s with a name like BretonGirl are you originally from Cape Breton?
Edit. Love your reply in the jb thread too!

Telus is the same - they need to go through all of this "internal testing". Man I'm on AOSP Jellybean and am so happy I'm almost not caring when and if it comes out. I might flash back to my stock unrooted Nandroid just to do the update for experience's sake when it does happen.

I hold dual Canadian/US citizenship and my family is from Cape Breton, yes. We had to be patient too while Europe and the UK got it first. I never complained. I suggest complaining to your carrier. I bet they are busy shoving as much of their crapware into it as possible. Most carriers love doing that.
Just install the uk one, it works perfect with rogers

Cool,
I am actually very happy with my tablet as is, much better than my Wife's ipad2. I am looking forward to better app compatability, configurable screenshot button, editable mini app tray etc....but that can wait.
I have the wifi version so no carrier to complain to, not that I would anyways my post was meant as laughing at others been impatient (Yanks and Canucks).
Cape Breton is awesome, I used to fly for Air Nova and was based in Halifax with tonnes (or metric fucton????) of Sydney overnights.
Take care,

They are all one big happy company....Rogers owns both Telus and Fido....Which is why you can switch from one to another just by swapping Sim cards on a carrier sim locked device. Found that out when I was unlocking my G1 got an old telus Sim and try to use an unlock code , it was already unlocked for telus, and fido. but the At&t sim from ebay forced the unlocke pin query.
You'll get ICS/JB on an update from rogers when you fork over anonter couple hundred$$$$$ for new hardware.

P.S if it sounds like I'm anti Rogers ....you should stand way back when I talk about Bell..

I'm pretty sure that Bell owns Telus. I know that Telus uses Bell towers for its signal. Your correct that Rogers owns Fido.
I have Rogers for my cell and Telus for my 3g tab 10.1. I can have no signal on my Rogers phone but have 3 bars on my Tab so they are definitely on different towers.
Telus keeps saying they are going to upgrade the Tab and then pushing the date back.
I think developers had forgotten about Honeycomb on Tablets and I wanted to be back on the main path of Android so I thought I would try rooting.
Now on the CM10 experiment by Pershoot and its great. Exactly the reason I will continue to buy Android products. I don't have to rely on some big stupid corporation, I can go to the great developer community and find all kinds of awesome stuff to run on my devices.

Rogers does own fido however they do not own Telus. Nor does Bell own Telus. However Bell and Telus have an agreement where out west Bell uses Telus towers and out east Telus uses Bell towers.

Telus
Well call me stupid ( should use Google search more), Telus is indeed a separate company not associated with Bell or Rogers.
Though I do remember an article 5-6 years back about Rogers buying a portion of Telus. That may have just been an investment by the financial arm of Rogers( diversity is a good thing).
tg
They're all bullcrap. They all need to push updates sooner.

Well, someone got it correct!
Bell and Telus used to be cdma carriers, when they wanted to launch their hspa network a few years ago they agreed to share the cost by building a network together, hence the "Bellus" term! But.....they are two very separate companies and are going their separate ways with lte.

So, I was at a bar this evening and I happened to come across a person playing poker with a very familiar looking device on his table, I asked him about it and my suspicion was confirmed, it was a grey Desire 816 running on Sprint with spark capabilities, he was an employee and had early access to the device, but its a coming!!!!!!!!

HSN is selling the VM version for $199 (total cost-deal of the day) including car charger and styus. How difficult would it be to change PRLs over to Sprint?

i dont think it would be as easy just changing the PRL's unfortunately
on a side note, QVC is/was selling it for $199+tax as well, but you can opt for the 5 easy payments of just $43 as well.
Way back I remember some talented devs were using a VM base for Sprint ROMs, so I didn't think it would be too difficult
---------- Post added at 07:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:11 PM ----------
Wonder if I used CDMA workshop I could make it work.... Hmmm might be a fun project
He was more than likely testing for VM. I do find it interesting that the Virgin Mobile 816 comes from the factory with all 3 boot animations installed. (Virgin Mobile, Sprint, and Boost Mobile). Going through the files I noticed it also has prop files for all 3 also. I imagine that there's a script that tells the phone what carrier it's for during activation which pulls the right boot anim and prop files.
I guess theres a possibility that the phone could be going to the other carriers but I honestly think Sprint had HTC install everything just in case. Maybe they hadn't figured out which carrier or carriers would get the phone so they had them build one unit that could be activated on either carrier.
Chatting about a Sprint 816, hoping, preying, begging, won't make it come out if it won't, or make it come faster if it is.
I actually put a 4G LTE Spark capable device ESN/MEID on my VM 816 device and the startup actually changed from HTC stock to the Sprint Spark Startup. Although without being able to update the IMEI on the device it is not possible for it to update and grab spark capabilities/LTE even with a brand new UICC card. I didn't update the HA/AAA keys since I didn't have a donor for these. If the IMEI writes it will automatically generate these.
So 1x with unlimited talk&text and a corporate PRL on Ringplus with a blank UICC card until the IMEI is able to write. This will only be possible with S-OFF / SuperCID though like on the HTC One M8.
Combination of QPST, open sesame door, zero out 0&1943 and EFS Professional. Write PRL in DFS.
Done. Lol

With the new T-mobile ONE plan coming soon, I want to switch over before it gets here.
Was hoping to bring my HTC 10 over, TMO's compatibility checker doesn't have it on the site. Does anyone know if it will work fully with their LTE?

I always got updates bas quick as Essential released them.
June Telus listed the PH1 as EOL (end of life) and pulled all products from their store.
Now I have yet to receive the July update. Anyone else?
Is this how Telus decides to do things? As soon as a device is EOL ignore it and pull out the "we have to run extensive tests to make sure the manufacturer's update is compatible with our network and systems" excuse to hold up updates (ie, ignore the device) to get you to "upgrade".
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
Pull out the SIM, restart, and check for an update. You should get the update direct from Essential. I use a Telus device, albeit with Bell and everything has been smooth sailing when it comes to updates.
As for the carriers in Canada I think we can all agree that their best name is Robellus.
Already tried that.
I suppose it will show eventually.

The same here, no July updates on stock 8.1 / Koodo. Makes me think to ask for refund
So your phones are not unlocked eg they are locked to a carrier?
All Canadian phones are unlocked.
Telus was the only carrier (and it's subbrand Koodoo) that sold the Essential so Essential lets them handle the updates.
Usually, in Canada, when you place a sim card in it is "provisioned" for that carrier. The updates are then handled by that carrier.
For example, my HTC U11+ (a phone not carried by Telus) needs to he on Wifi to get an update notification.
Hence the "take the sim card out" suggestion.

Well that is unfortunate.

Put in a sim from another carrier to get the update. I have a chatter sim I use for the purpose.
I know we did the Sim swap thing on Motorola devices and it worked fine.
Well that would work if I had a sim from another carrier!
Might be worth buying a prepaid sim for that purpose though.

You don't need an active SIM, just any other SIM.
That's what most people do.
Finally got "P' pushed by Koodo today. 1047M update to .091 build.
