my question is.. once you install them.. if you dont like them.. how do you restore back to the original?
Any help would be appreciated! Thankyou!
f*** sorry didnt see the thing about not posting here til now.. delete this! i will go Q&A section
sorry!
Ask a mod to move your question into Q&A.
And to your question, if you unlock your bootloader and push a kernel using adb you'll have a recovery installed, use it to take a backup.
If you only want to have a rooted device with locked bootloader, install CWM recovery for locked BL's and take a backup there.
Easiest way is backup your phone framework-res, and SettingsUI apks.
Flash theme and if you don't like theme, then manually overwrite with earlier backups files over new themed framework-res.apk and SettingsUI.apk.
You can do this over adb, fastboot, or I recommend you "android commander"
No need then mess up with Full rom backup.

Of course your described method is efficienter, but I think for newbies a backup with CWM is a lot easier.

ROM Manager can't install CWM recovery on our Xperia devices.
We've to install it using ADB and by the way I think the problem is solved either way.
If your device has locked bootloader. Still you can flash your own firmware without userdata partition. Then root device again

you can backup the rom via cwm and copy the file something that is names as 2-1-2012-2- something in the clockworkmod folder on your sdcard and paste in in the same folder of your sisters phones sd card in the clockworkmod folder, and vice versa...give it a try it wont brick
Yeah it works.
I've done that before because I lost my own backup of stock rom when my pc went bonkers. Apparently you need a backup of the backup. Lol.

I tried a few methods but could you tell me how to install CWM permananently on the galaxy y? I have the temporary one. As in I have to flash it repeatedly everytime I use it!
Help me out
Also, I tried backing it up using the temporary CWM it won't install. Quite a long back up goes on for a while and in the end it says "can't mount /data!". Tell me how do I back it up because I'm dying to put in a new rom
Lastly, what roms are there for this phone? Good ones?

There's no permanent cwm recovery for SGY yet, ya i know that's sad!
Good ROMS? Try creeds 2.0 and Hybrid
but doesn't creed's have a lot of bugs? I have seen a lot of threads on XDA saying so.
What about the error while backing up my system? it says "can't mount /data!" in the end and that's it! though there is a backup file generated in my sd card
creeds 2.1 has bugs, anyways, try Hybrid! i didnt try it but was following the discussions and its not buggy!
I didnt have any problem with nandroid backup, may be problem with your cwm! try another cwm and ensure that you have atleast 500 Mb (worst case) free space on SD card

Try doing it. I mean try restoring it. I tried so before flashing my new rom and it worked fine for me.

4. if i successfuly flash it in cwk my phone will not be rooted and go back to its stock rom?
1, yes
2, don't understand
3, don't think so, its simple. Maybe... One time I got issue, when the backup was unsuccessful because of lack of free space, but I didn't see it, just realized the problem when wanted to restore.
4, yes, if the backup was made in unrooted state.
bye

Oh By the way
in question number 2 i used cwk moded by skin-1980 (its up to you if what cwk you will use, Just look here in the forums and test the best and suits your needs)
Hope this help you ^^
Greetings,
I am embarrassed to say I have messed up my S5
I was in Safestrap and evidently formatted an incorrect partition
As a result, it just boot loops to the first splash screen
I have unsuccessfully tried to Odin back to a custom image...except that particular .tar/process is for the developer variety.
Is there any way to get SafeStrap back on or recover through Odin?
My tail is between my legs!
Best,
Landlocked
First....please don't post questions in the Dev section.
Second : grab the tar from here and flash in ODIN. That will restore you back to stock. At least it will be working again.

Howdy! Please post in the correct sections. There's a whole section devoted to questions & the section you posted in (development) has specific rules about what is acceptable. Basically, if you didn't "create it" don't post in development.
Moved the thread to Q&A where it belongs, thanks!

You have to dirty flash your Rom to get out of the bootloop then find out which Xposed framework you need to flash. If you've flashed the wrong one then it will result in a bootloop.

I'm sorry but may be I wrong but you need deodexed rom and root access first of all. After that you must flash latest lollipop version and install the same apk.
BTW, we have a section for help, Q&A and troubleshooting here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s6-edge-plus/help/
I anticipate that the mods will move your two thread there soon.
