For permanent change, go here.
For temporary change, go here.
Temporary change is easy to do, but MAC id will change once you switch wifi on/off or reboot.
Permanent change, might work or not depending on the kernel, and is surely a complicated process.
So the choice is yours
use Pry-fy

Detailed Procedure which i found working on my device ( Lenovo A 6000 + )after lots of attempts. Hope it helps someone.
1. Take backup of all data.( Incase of data loss, which i haven't experieced with expeerience of araound 20 times rooting)
2. Root your phone using kingoroot (via PC ) (my preference --you can root any way you want )
3. Check root sataus using root checker app (Its in playstore )
4. Make sure you have Super User (App which guarantees root access) .Its is installed automatically when rooted via Kingoroot software.(Or install it from playstore)
6. Install ESFile Explorer from playstore (again its my preference, you can use any root explorer )
7. Enable root explorer option in ES File Explorer(Grant root access when asked)
8. Directory to change mac id
Device -> sys -> devices -> soc.0 -> a000000.qcom,wcnss -> wcnss_mac_addr.
9.Open the file in ES Note Editor and change the mac to whichever you want.
10. Switch on aeroplane mode and off it.(Then only mac id changes).
Note:-
1. Mac ID is reset when resetted .(Switching wifi on and off doesn't affect)
2. The above procedure works in stock ROM (lollipop and kitkat )
Plz reply if any probs...I figured it out after too many attempts as i am quite new to these things.

Hi there,
Newcomer to the forums - go easy guys!
I'm wondering what's the safest one click .apk I could use to root my LG GT540 using the stock Android 2.1? If possible I would like to revert back to a unrooted device within oneclick as well.
The only reason I am interested in rooting my device is to overclock it - by adding more power when needed, and to lower the frequency when I'm not using it.
Any help is appreciated guys, thanks!

Sorry, but you cannot overclock the phone without installing a custom kernel. But for rooting your device, I recommend z4root, it gives you the option to un-root too. Download the .apk from here: http://www.gamefront.com/files/17562655/z4root.1.3.0.apk/
Just put it on your SDCard and install with either APKInstaller or ASTRO File Manager from the market.
Hope it helps,
Jack
Okay, thanks!
Sorry to double post, but what benefits can I get from rooting my device?

You will have full control over the android filesystem with certain root apps (eg. Root Explorer) but rooting is actually quite secure, you have to allow or deny apps when they request superuser access. It will also allow you to WiFi Tether so you can use your phones internet connection on your computer (Your phone broadcasts a wifi signal that your computer can use for an internet connection)

Hi there, thanks for your help so far! Would I be able to change the top white bar (where the battery icon is) on my now rooted Android 2.1 stock?

For that you will have to find and download a moded/themed framework-res.apk .
You will also need to instal SDK tools and ADB bridge on your computer ( there are many tutorials on the net - google it )
After that you simply connect the phone to PC via USB cable , open cmd on PC and give the next comand :
adb push [directory of framework-res.apk ] /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb reboot
For example - adb push C:\Downloads\framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb reboot
if you have any more questions feel free to ask

I found a simple way to change wi-fi MAC address on Ace. Only watch you needed is Root Explorer. Follow this instruction:
1. If your wi-fi is on turn it off
2. Open Root Explorer and go to the /data folder
3. Find and select via long touch the file .nvmac.info
4. Use the option "Open in Text Editor"
5. Change the MAC address to the what you want (I suggest to insert the letters as big characters).
6. Touch the menu button and select "Save & Exit"
7. Torn on you wi-fi and connect to the preferred network. You Ace should connect to the network witch the new MAC address
Note! This change aren't permanent, when you reboot you phone the MAC address goes back to the original. Only test on CyanogenMOD, but working on other rom's based on CM. Not tested on stock rom's and other custom rom's (if you can test it on stock rom's or stock based rom's and it works tell my I will include this information to the post). Use at own risk.
What is the practical use, may I know? Does it help clear timed downloads?

ok i don't know about you but if this tutorial ends up as a means to perform MAC spoofing, the user will end up on the wrong side of the law. Be warned.
Can i use laptop mac address?
satti8893 yes, why do think that you can't?

don't be so sure. some home users don't even enable authentication OTA from their access points and some just enable MAC filtering.
fyi, encryption results in a degeneration of the 2.4Ghz radio signal to a limited extent. As a result, some people resort to broadcasting in open and only using MAC filtering.

No such file in CyanoGenMod v10 (but I have an Asus EEE Transformer). I did a search within all directory structure: it is not there .
So this system is not valid for any CyanoGenMod ROM.

Hi. id like you all who are sharing your knowledge through this fantastic forum and special thanks to the developers of this website. ive recieved my nook simple touch with glowlight firmware 1.1.5 just 5 days ago and was successfully rooted. then i wanted to add arabic language so i followed the this method which is mentioned in one thread by using the CWM method after rebooting my device got stuck at the screen of downloading the five dots and the screen was flashing without stopping.
i was so irritated knowing nothing to do and searched the net for any solution but at the end i found one sying that you can try the factory recovery by using CWM method.
it worked but now im not able to copy any app to system. file explorer says your device is unrooted.
please what should i do? recover my nook or re root it again.
thanks in advance
You did a factory recovery, therefore it's not rooted anymore.
Something you did before annoyed your Nook.
If the dots are running you can sometimes get a logcat.
You will need to have gotten ADB working already, which requires rooting.
That's a bit of a bind.
A console log might show you something too, but you'd need a shell to run dmesg or to solder in wires to access the UART on the board.
So, what exactly did you do to get Arabic working?
Try doing things in small steps and see where it locks up.
then
thank you Renate for your reply. now what do u think i ve to do whether to root it again directly or ive to make recovery to the system first by using backup because i cant copy any file to system so that ill be able to add arabic fonts.

nop, my IMEI is there, but the mac isnt... mac:unavailable
im too i dont have something wrong on my imei and mac addr.. anyone can solve this ???
Try this
Backup your IMEI if it is not null
1. Your phone should be rooted
2. Download and install 5iromtoolbox
3. Open 5iromtoolbox app you installed and look for "backup imei"
App backup your phone's imei. And after that, when your imei nulled, root your phone if it isn't, install that app again and look for "restore imei"
And don't delete any folder named "5irom" or similar. It contains 3 img files. They are important.
Get back to a official GB and check your mac adress, if it's null get back to android 2.2 and take note of your mac adress
Root your phone
install the rom you wan't
check your imei, if it is null install 5iromtoolbox app again and look for "restore imei"
Override MAC Address:
-Install Terminal Emulator from Market.(with data or via PC)
-Run terminal and enter these commands: (where is "11:22:33:44:55:66" you should place your original mac address)
su
setprop persist.sys.wifimac mac_param=11:22:33:44:55:66
Hope it helps
Sorry for my bad english
doesnt work and now.. my wifi cant connect to router. i do flashing.. but wont work stil disconnect. maybe a driver or something else???

Hello
I've got a problem to flash back my LG G2 to 4.2.2 (from original 4.4.2)
I've tried both ways of this guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476) but my access was both times denied ( 1. time running Automatic Offline Procedure.vbs 2. time saving the hosts file) by windows ( I'm running windows 8.1 )
What should I do now? (Of course I'm the Admin on my pc )
I would appreciate every help and tip.
Thank you very much in advance for your answers,
reboot computer.
go to hostfile, manually edit the file. dont save as text but as all files.
follow tutorial go back to root. check firewall to allow https program, and virusscan to allow https.
boom done.
reboot, change hostfile back. reboot and done.
