Connect your compatible Z3 device to a computer with a USB cable.
Xperia Companion will open automatically
Make sure you have Xperia Companion version 1.1.24 or later. If not, download the latest version from here.

Welcome to the update guide for Xperia SP
Updates are small packages that get installed in your phone by the official product company (in this case Sony) that improve your phones performance and fix some major and some minor bugs.
To get the latest firmware released by Sony you can use 2 methods.
1st method : Simpler method using SUS (Sony UpdateService)
Software you will need :
Sony Update Service (by Sony) (You can get it here : http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
Hardware requirements :
Phone with and older or even lastest firmware
Usb to Micro b usb cable (the one included in the packaging of your phone)
Steps
Download and install Sony Update Service from the link given above
Follow the onscreen instructions
Ckeck the agreement box
Press Start
Then Select your device
Press Next
Shut down your phone
Wait about 5 seconds (its says 30 but 5 will be enough)
Connect the phone into the port WHILE holding down the volume down button
Then it should download the update file and flash it on your device
After the instalation is finished you can disconnect the device
Boot the device and enjoy your firmware
WARNING this method (1) will erase your data phone apps , contants etc
2nd method : This uses flashtool more advanced but you will not lose your data by flashing kernel but it wont work for large update (Example : it will work from .245 to .254 but not from 4.2 to 4.4 )
Software you will need :
Flashtool from here : http://www.flashtool.net/download.php
Hardware requirements :
Phone with and older or even lastest firmware
Usb to Micro b usb cable (the one included in the packaging of your phone)

Click flash (lightning button)
Sellect flashmode
Press ok
Sellect the location of the firmware (from" Source Folder : ")
Sellect anything you want to exclude from the installation
Then sellect flash
A window will pop up giving you instructions (follow the instructions or continue reading from here)

Hope this works for you Please Leave any question below or send me a message!!!
Also this thread needs improvement and i know it please help me improve it by suggesting corrections
Thank you and good luck.

For those Facing problems with unlocking/relocking their bootlloaders

Will only work for D6502, D6503, D6543, and hopefully the other models of the Sony Xperia Z2
Please note! It will only be possible to unlock the boot loader for certain releases. To check if your device is able to have its bootloader unlocked dial *#*#7378423#*#* in your phone app on your Xperia Z2 and tap service info then confirguration if it says at the bottom Rooting status: bootloader unlock allowed: yes then you can go ahead with this thread if not then dont do these steps.
Unlocking the device will erase all of your data!!!
Also you will lose your DRM keys and you will lose your warrenty. If you do not want to lose your keys use BackupTa for xperia z2
Recently I have faced a problem with relocking my bootloader on my Z2 where you will get an error saying could not relock or something to those line / For cmd i got the error not allowed or something to those lines , but i have found a workaround for this bug/issue!!
Note That this will work for unlocked/locked bootloaders.
I recommend that you use flashtool to unlock your Z2 as this is the software i used to unlock my device in the first place.
If you dont already have the software go ahead and download it . Search flashtool-0.9.18.2-windows.exe on Google
and look for the one named AndroPlus's Files :: BasketBuild open it up and look for the file named flashtool-0.9.18.2-windows.exe and press download to the right of the line
1.Firstly launch the Flashtool on your PC.
2.Now click on “BLU” icon in Flashtool utility.
3.Then you’ll be asked to connect the device in Flashmode (Fastboot mode).
4.Turn off the device and wait at least 5 seconds.
5.Plug your USB cable in your computer, hold the volume up key on the device and then plug in the other end of the cabel to your device.
6.Once you’ve connected device to PC using USB Cable, Flashtool will show the Device Selector screen.
7.Now select your device from the list.
8.Further, the flashtool will take you to “Bootloader Unlock Wizard” screen.
9.Click on the Unlock button to start the process.
10.Once the process get completed. Flashtool will show you a log screen, look on it and check that the process has been applied successfully.
If your device fails the unlock / relock do these steps
1.Go to your flashtool install folder in this case my location is C:\Flashtool
2.Open the devices folder and find the folder named D65XX and open it up.
3.Open the file D65XX.properties with notepad.
4.Edit the line loader_unlocked= (after the = (if your device is unlocked type true for a relock / if your device is locked type false for a unlock))
Now when you try to lock or relock the bootloader it should work out for you. Good luck!
All this was worked out and experimented by Me and luckily it worked.

PLEASE READ CHEERFULLY

Bricked phone symptoms:
can't power on after flash,
no lcd or led reaction for power button,
no lcd or led reaction for charger,
no lcd or led reaction if phone is connected to PC,
your PC can't detect your phone with vol-,
phone does not vibrate when holding vol+ and power together.

Click to collapse
Repair procedure:
1. Firstly connect turned off bricked phone to your PC. If phone will be detected in device manager as:
qhusb_dload device
Click to collapse
you are lucky and this is the end of the first step for you. Just disconnect phone.
If your phone can't be detected at all, you must connect it using testpoint.
Disassemble your phone using this service manual:
remove battery and connect this point on main board to metal shield and attach usb cable.
2. Download and install the latest Gordon's Gate Flash Driver from this post: Attached File ggsetup-3.0.0.7.exe 3.58MB
3. Download and run this s1tool: Attached File s1tool.exe 2.52MB
4. Download proper APPSW firmware for your Sony Xperia Z:
5. In S1tool choose S1 EMERGENCY MODE, press Flash button, select correct APPSW .sin_file_set file (or you can select whole firmware if you have it in order APPSW, FSP, Elabel - but you can't use .ftf flashtool files),
6. Press Testpoint READY button:
and if your phone is detected as qhusb_dload device, just attach usb cable. If not, perform all steps from point 1 (connect testpoint to GND and attach USB cable).
7. When drivers will be installed and phone will be detected, program will ask you to disconnect testpoint. Disconnect testpoint from GND and press Testpoint READY button.
8. After that phone will load emergency s1 loader, re-enumerate usb, load s1 loader, update boot in your phone and flash selected firmware.
9. Now you have to flash (if not done yet) your phone with all firmware parts (APPSW, FSP, ELABEL) using S1 FLASH MODE, phone will be fixed. Also you can flash your phone using Sony Update Service, Sony PC Companion or any other flasher like current Flashtool.
10. Time to reassembly your phone using service manual: Sony Xperia Z C66XX Service Manuals

How do I get this file from my own phone?

[Solved] Latest FlashTool not detecting (not showing) FTF files..

I solved the problem by manually let the FlashTool sync the devices databases from Github
1 - Connect to the internet
2- From FlashTool > Devices > Device Sync > Manual Sync
3- after it's done syncing close FlashTool and open it again..
4- it should say loaded ninety something devices (in my case 94)
5- choose flash > flashmode and choose a folder that contains any correct FTF (not corrupted FTF file) whatever the names of the files are..
you should now have your device(s) listed in the Firmwares box with the FTF files after expanding the device name..
if this method doesn't work for you simply install an older version of FlashTool
here is a link of Ver 0.9.18.6 for windows

Have a good flashing

Had the same problem with my Xperia T (LT30P). Just disconnect the battery and hold power and volume up for a few seconds (dunno if it does something, just repeating what i've read somewhere). After that it should connect to your pc just fine so you can flash another kernel and/or ROM.
Please delete this.

Click on very left arrow not in content..... Working 100%......click untill the end of the arrow
View attachment flashtool_2020-08-05_05-13-41.logflashtool is not flashing my xperia z3 it just stays in connect your device and says connected with usb debbugin of 2011 devices make sure mtp is off help asap
Didn't work in my case, tried on Flashtool v0.9.34 for windows and linux and v0.9.28 for windows, it refused to read the Xperia SO-02K firmware which I needed to flash for DRM keys backup.
Flashtool v0.9.18.6 and v0.9.15 for windows were both able to read it, but threw "root : this bundle is not valid" and "Cannot open bundle. Flash operation canceled" errors during flashing. I tried four different versions of the firmware and ultimately used newflasher v20 instead.
