Edited pictures - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I really dont understand the protocol with Samsung phones but why are pictures duplicated after editing them? One original and another that is edited. Isn't this just a waste of space? On iPhones if you edit a picture what shows on the camera roll is the edited version with an option to revert back to the original. Is there some way to avoid the duplication?

There maybe an app there somewhere, but with the IOS, with what you said, I'm sure theres two copies aswell, just hidden to you, so its wasting space aswell

If you use google photos it will act the same way as an iPhone with edits you can 'revert'. But also both copies are stored regardless so the same amount of space is saved anyway.

If your able to revert on the iphone then its saving to copies.
Samsung has done it this way so you can edit the photo and not lose the orignal or reedit it a different way easily

**Make Photo's invible, so know one esle can see them**

is there any software that will make my Pictures in my phone (that I don't want anyone esle to see), invisble and or hide them....
You could hide them. Use a file explorer with a little more functions than the embedded one and well.. hide them. Use resco or total commander (free) choose the file and change the file attributes to hidden. It is not hard to find hidden files, but it might be good enough.
Strange request btw.

I couldnt stop laughing when i saw your comment. Lol My GF photos are well kept from curious eyes
If you want to 100% hide photos, videos, documents you should try Best Crypto
www.smartphoneware.com/crypto-for-windows-mobile-product.php
Maybe someone should make a program to hide files and photos or somehow password protect them, most software encrypts which creates the time consuming hassle of decrypting when you need to access them, somehow be able to access with a single password that opends the folder for viewing.
Im very surprised it isnt intergrated into an image viewer (Splash Photo does it somewhat)

Don't want thumbnails?

Let's say I have a folder of images on my SD card that I don't want showing in the pictures app. Is there a way (besides chmod 000 on the folder) to make it so the images are no thumbnailed?
Yeah, sure, make jokes about adult photos being on the phone, but there is an actual use. I use my phone as a thumb drive of sorts, and I carry all my apps on it when fixing peoples computers. Having all the apps, majority of them having images in the folders, fills up the pictures app with thumbnails of things I don't want there. All I want to see are the pictures I take, or want to be there, not program icons and the like.
So, anyone got any ideas?

The best way that I know of is to rename the folder with a period in front like ".foldername" and then reboot the phone. The folder will then be hidden from the pictures app and they shouldn't show up. However some apps like 1cast load TONS of thumbnails that show up when you are trying to change your wall paper for an example and it can cause a long time to load all of the pictures depending on how much you have. Based on personal experience when setting my wallpapers with Locale, for example, I've had to wait almost 5 minutes for all of my pictures to load just so I can find the one that I want. If you find a better way, I'd like to know it.

How to hide pictures?

Hello,

Its pretty annoying if my friends uses my phone and i cant let them go see pictures becouse im not that kind of boyfriend So is there any way to hide pictures / make folder with password? And sorry for my bad english i hope you guys understand.

using file explorer.. go to...
(depending where your pictures are stored)
cut and paste the pictures contained in DCIM\100media\
into a new folder somewhere else on the storage card.. and it will no longer appear in the image gallery

That doesnt work, when i click "all albums" you can see those pictures.
Mate - have a look at this, in the hits & tips thread linked in my sig...
64. Disable Unwanted Folders From Showing in HTC Album
It just hides a folder from the album app. You can still manually browse to it with file explorer, for example, and open images from there.
Hope this helps

Haha =D you wish
i edited thet registry key but i'm having troubles.. while it is actually hiding pictures in htc album, they are still showing up in manila's tab, am i doing something wrong?
WinRar the files. You can even put a password on it so that if you loose the phone no one can see the pics. I found it the easiest and most secure way to hide your girlfriends pictures.

Free app to protect pictures
Hi,
Search for an app called FreeOTFE4PDA. It allows you to create a fully encrypted, password protected folder on your card. This can then be mounted as a storage card when needed. Within this you can create folder and do anything else you can do on a storage card. The important part is of course that you can not mount it if you do not know the password.

i run both windows and android, so what i'm trying to do is to hide android's gallery cache files (why did developers think that using readable jpg files as cache would be a good idea in the first place?)
that's the reason i want them to remain accessible for android use, but still don't want them to fill my windows photo tab with duplicates, so no rar storing can solve my problem
i fear i'll have to give up the 3d glory of android's gallery due to this stupid issue...
Use Total Commander, find the pictures, press & hold a picture, tap Properties, check the box "Hidden", press OK. The pictures can only be accessed through Total Commander.
It's a good thing my 900th post went to a good cause!

That's exactly the problem i'm having. You just have to keep the photos rarred while you using android. Not the perfect solution, if you find a better 1 i'm interested too.
Sent from my HanDroid2 using XDA App
1)Change the extension to some other (from jpg to ipg in example). So no one program will open it. When you need it change again to jpg.
2)make it hidden or system

Newbish question involving wallpaper directories

I've tried searching for this, but mainly come against various versions of "how do I set a wallpaper?" To avoid confusion, I'll just explain the situation.
A friend set an image from the Facebook app as my wallpaper. I like the photo, but just not as my wallpaper, so I wanted to copy and repurpose it. The issue is that I don't know where the image is saved.
I did find one page saying it was somewhere in /data, but that directory is empty for me, so I'm guessing that Samsung (stock EC05 rom) is using a different directory for saved background images. Any ideas where that might be?
i don't think it saves to the phone if you just set as wallpaper, it has to be downloaded..it kind of just copied it and pasted it to your background

You mean like saved in a clipboard? That seems unlikely since user wallpapers are persistent if you turn the phone off and back on, but then again I'm not too familiar with Android to know that it wouldn't do that. I'm still thinking it has to save somewhere ...

i duplicated exactly what you did, i set a pic from my facebook app as wallpaper instead of downloading and copied the image name so i could try and find it easier.. by using root explorer it searched every directory for that image coming up with 0 results, even tho its set as my wallpaper. i then took an image from my sd card and placed it in a data folder and it still appeared in my gallery. so if it is indeed in your phone you would still see it in gallery no matter the directory unless it is in a zipped folder which a pic from facebook wouldn't be... if you want to store that pic on your phone go to the facebook website in browser and make sure you download pic instead of set as wallpaper lol let me know if any of that confused you lol
No, I understood perfectly, thanks for looking into it! I don't even have a facebook account, my girlfriend was using my phone, but the picture itself is VGA resolution (or worse) scaled to fit, and makes a horrible background for an 800 verticle height.

Device memory not adding up (applications and pictures, videos sizes are bigger than)

Didn't really know what to search for to get any results, but the automatic title search helped with that. Still the threads were of no help!
I'm adding a couple of pictures of my issue, don't really know what to think of it, but I don't want to see it anymore.
The pictures, videos size was 7,7GB under a minute before I took the screen shot, I have ~99% of my pictures on my new 64GB microSDXC, but still, it show 18+GB. Also all the bigger apps that I have are moved to the SD, and I don't have many nor really big ones at the moment. I can get rid of the pictures videos size by clearing the gallery's data (gallery's data at the moment is 7,5GB) - I'm guessing that is because of the phantom thumbnails files in DCIM/.thumbnails - I recently got two .thumb.... files there, both 7,5GB!
Still what to do to get the apps part to refresh itself or to show correct data?
Any help/thoughts appreciated (on both the huge sizes and the phantom files in DCIM/.thumbnails as I haven't found anything that helps permanently with those)
got some views, but just going to try to bring this back to someone's attention who can hopefully shed some light on what's going on or what to do with this.....also if anyone has a similar issue??
Dude if u use foldermount it can do that
because the symlinks created are detected by the settings apps so it counts it in but if u want to see ur memory stat for real just disable the links in fokdermount and see settings again

I've read a bit about foldermount....it requires root, doesn't it?
If I didn't mention in my first post, then my bad, have had a lot on my mind with school and the medical examination for the army....
I'm completely stock, haven't rooted (yet), no custom kernel, no hocus-pocus with the memory except a new microSD (64GB SanDisk)
Thanks for the reply anyways and I'll try to remember that and not freak out once I finally root my S4 and see that...
