Which kernel is everyone using? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

I successfully completed the conversion to dev mode and root my device. I have the multi-system kernel at this time but was wondering which kernel gives the best battery life and which are most people using?
The only 2 kernels I am aware of that are available are the emotion and multi-system ones. Is there something else?

My N4 performs well with this multi-system kernel Courtesy of @hsbadr

I've been using the Eceed Kernel by @kairi_zeroblade:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/kernel-xceed-t3344742
there is a verizon version. I had no problems flashing this onto my jasmine rom 4.3 running android 5.1.1.
One user reported loosing data(4g) with this kernel but didnt give any info on what rom or firmware he was running.
the kernel works great so far, much better battery life. Scores 82,000+ consistently on antutu.
The kernel comes pre configured. The only things you can change if you wish is the cpu voltages, cpu currents, and a couple of read ahead tweaks in Synapse
the only thing I noticed was some camera lag (a bit slower to open and to switch from front to rear) that @kairi_zeroblade said could be due to the strict cpu settings. I believe hes working on a 6.0 MM kernel right now that should work for verizon.
Definitely worth a shot to check it out!!!! If you have any feedback just post in the original thread.

Got same results in antutu which is pretty awesome as fast as s6 but have no data on kyubi'so rom

This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...nt/firmware-safe-upgrade-to-lollipop-t3313224

I use the screen mirroring option all the time. I would say test that out to determine which kernel is best for you. I know one of the kernels floating around doesn't support screen mirroring which is a big no no for me.

Not really big on Viper and over clocking so maybe someone else could shed some light on those features.

I haven't tweaked anything yet and this kernal is pretty nice. Battery life seems to last longer. Gotta test for a few more days.

Xceed comes pre tweaked. The only thing that may give a little more speed is changing the internal and SD card read ahead from 512 to 2048mb and cfq as the scheduler. Most other adjustments are untouchable

any 6.0 roms working on the verizon note 4?

So looks like the kubyi rom will not work with this kernel. :/ I'm guessing the data fix will have to be patched into the Xceed kernel.
I haven't had the time to read through this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/general/running-international-roms-n910t-t3220738
Is it only for the n910t varient?
Does anyone have any info on the data fix for the verizon kernel so maybe @kairi_zeroblade can add it to the next build.?

What info do you want to know about the datafix for Kyubi? It has multisystem kernel included. So far that is the only kernel that is compatible with Kyubi. No changes to the kernel were made to make it work with Kyubi. It just happened to work when I tried flashing Kyubi on our phone. So it became part of the datafix since it worked so well. I think if anything, @kairi_zeroblade should talk with @hsbadr the developer of multisystem kernel. We got lucky that hsbadr's kernel worked !

I meant stock mm roms. I noticed the snapdragon note 4 forums have them, but I'm not sure if they will work on the Verizon note 4.

I was thinking there was some type of patch or fix @hsbadr may have implemented into the multisystem kernel to get it to work. looks like @kairi_zeroblade is focusing on marshmallow though which should be awesome! Can't wait for us to get the update

I just re downloaded emotion kernel and am going to try it for a little bit.. Strange thing is, my battery percent jumped from 20 to 42 after reboot.. I will have to see how it goes..

I second the Eceed kernel. Im on the jasmine rom and was using the emotion kernel but I noticed a fast drain on the battery. Switched over to Eceed a few days ago and have experienced a huge improvement on battery life, without the sacrifice in speed. Thanks Joemill for the suggestion.

Read about Exceed kernel so I gave it a try and thats the one Im sticking with. Runs great, using Jasmine Rom with it as well, battery life is great and my phone is very quick, highly recommend it.

Yeah, got 4k boost in AnTuTu score from this.
Haven't really noticed any real difference, though.
Yeah, this optimization works great with overclocking too, stock rom/tk-glitch kernel.
Has nobody else used this yet? Will this work for any 4.4 rom, cm 11 or aokp? And is this better tha trying art?

I have it installed. While I hadn't benchmarked this device prior to flashing, I can say that I'm getting in the 24000's on Antutu post-flash. I also can't speak regarding ART as I haven't enabled it since rooting and only ran with it on for the first day I had it so I don't remember.
Edit: all else is stock, aside from this zip.

There is no "Best". There are only choices. Everyone has different needs.
Try downloading a few different ones and give them a go and see what works best for you.

Personally I'm using Sweet ROM and Ultimate Kernel v9. I have the N910H variant and all is working good for me
sent from somewhere
Im using stock and it's amazing for me (I910U)
stock is better always never try xnote ...coz of poor batter life i dnt know others
I am in the same boat. For the past 3 months I have been trying to get ultimate kernel. But XDA is acting stupid when it comes to this kernel.
I followed the complete fight that the author had not made it open source.
Then latter I see that somebody posted the open source code for Ultimate kernel but some self rightous mod removed the link.
I just do not get why the issue is with XDA and Ultimate kernel. If somebody can help me get Ultimate Kernel I would be much obliged.
I have tried all the other ROMs and Kernels posted on XDA and sad to say this but the rooted and basic tweaked stock ROM and kernel proves to be the best over and over again.
Today was the 10th thim I have reverted to stock. In the last few months. And Im re-runing Geek Bench to confirm that my phone is back to performing well.
For some crazy reason sometimes after loading another ROM / Kernel even restoring does not bring back the best bench numbers. Then I have to do a factory Imagine and start again from scratch. My best Single Core number on stock was 1092 and 3509 on multi core. Today after a restore I am seeing Single Core 790 and Multi Core 2941.
So either I find Ultimate Kernel or I reset to stock.

Custom kernels for g900V and CM13?

I have CM13 on the g900V and have some problems with CPU frequencies (posted on the ROM thread). It seems the only custom kernel for this phone and ROM is an unofficial boeffla kernel which was last updated in April and with which I had some problems too (random reboots).
Really aren't there any other kernels that work on g900V and CM13?
Thanks!
Some g900f kernels work on the g900v like try crazy super kernel
sent from my nexus 4 I also own a voyager tablet and an I-phone 4s
I want to report that I just installed the original Boeffla 3.3 for G900F and it's working just fine.
The issue with simple_ondemand for GPU governor seems fixed. The issue that I cannot set the lower CPU freq lower than 1881 MHz remains, though. (workaround in another post)
EDIT: Although almost everything runs smoothly, and I get amazing battery life with some CPU governors, camera doesn't work, it "does not connect"
Gonna try crazy super kernel as recommended
I used crazy sure kernel last time I used it 3 months or so ago the features I used worked including changing CPU MHz and fast charge and governors worked that is what I used

Thanks, what I did was to edit out the check in the install script.
But, still, I get no camera ("cannot connect to camera"). Exactly what version of crazy super kernel do you have working? I tried the latest (16.0) and no camera. Gonna try some newer test versions now.
Finally!
I can report camera is working!
I had to install the latest CM13 nightly. The latest snapshot does not work. It's not on CM's site anymore so here's a link.
The kernel I used is the very latest test build. This link is the developer's folder which will hopefully contain the latest ones. Mine I pulled it from the folder "cm13-new test kernels".
If anyone wants, I can explain how to edit the script so the kernel doesn't refuse to install in g900v.

Yes you are right. When I was Testing it I am using wifi. Its been stable for for almost whole day without freezing or fc. Then, when I put sim card and data was on that's the time my phone become laggy and freeze. That's why I realize its only stable when connected to wifi. Yup I test it too and its fine and very stable. I need more test. I am in the middle of a new rom right now testing it with Emotion (Emotion-TW-stable-MM-beta-r25-RC7_test) kernel that Lanc City modify it.

Hey all. I've spent most my time here on sprint forum because i had unlocked n910p.
Well i recently got a n910t and wanted some experienced opinions on what's the best stable release of Ram kernel for this device?
I see this Op states v7 is good, but since there's been more releases, was wondering if that's changed.
Fyi, i don't need. cutting edge or the bells and whistles like extra governors. Just most stable running cool version? Thanks!

If you going to use N7 port your best bet is Ram kernel v5 is the last stable kernel but RC1 and 2 is the newest beta. Between v5 and RC1 is unstable. For stock rooted rom you cannot go wrong Beastmod kernel .

And good, I'll try v5. Yes I've tried rc1 and 2, and even though they worked, it seemed like i had heat problems. Also i don't mess with governors so i don't need all the added stuff.

[Discussion] Favourite Kernel and Why ?

We have another post for ROM. Why do we not have another post for Kernel ?
As we can see, we have more than 5 kernels that are from XDA developer or someone else. But which one is really good for your ROM and which one still keep updating ?
I have been using OP5T for 2 months. Have used so many kernels but i still got stuck in those and do not know which is more stable. I am planning to use the kernel from Blu_Spark. Is that good ?
Post your favourite kernel and tell everybody why you use that. It will help newbie to pick what they want.
I am using Flash kernel at the moment but I have already tried Blu, franko, arter, ElementalX etc, but honestly for me it's difficult to see any difference since this phone have already a great battery life and great speed. On my previous phone (S8) the custom kernel gives a big advantage since the phone have tons of bloat and and isn't running stock like Android.

I have tried Blu and Franco for now and both have been very good. I really think kernel performance depends on the combo with the ROM as well as your device. I'm on Liquid Remix with Franco currently but I may give Resurrection Remix a try with Flash. If I had more time, I'd flash every ROM with every kernel to get a feel for all the possibilities LOL. :good:
For me Franco and flash kernel are the Best.... Now with ob3 with Franco kernel
Enviado desde mi ONEPLUS A5010 mediante Tapatalk
Did the Franco improve battery or performance? Someone Tried the Boeffla?
At the moment, both Flash Kernel and RenderKernel are great options in my opinion. I have tried most of the other kernels on xda and if you are looking specifically for smoothness/speed, these are the two you should test first. I do not run battery cycles; everyones daily use scenario really differs too much.
Flash Kernel currently has some kernel features I need (Kcal support & wakelock blocker) while RenderKernel does not have these features quite yet. While it lacks in some features, RenderKernel is undoubtedly the smoothest kernel for 5T right now.
I am on a 5T with OOS 5.0.3.
I like Franco but recently some custom ROMs have WIFI cannot turn on problem after I flash Franco kernel.
:fingers-crossed:
(Don't blame any devs here just sharing.)

I haven't really played around with Kernel choices much.
I use and appreciate the professionalism of ElementalX kernel.
With it's options to adjust for extreme brightness, it quickly became a favorite a couple years ago and I've just stuck with it since.
Now most devs are adding high brightness to their kernels.
I guess I can start checking other kernels out.
I do like that ElementalX stays very stockish, reliable.
I can pretty much flash it and feel confident nothing weird will pop up over the next few days.

ElementalX, Franco, and flash were all my go-to kernels back in the 6p days (just a few months ago, lol), so it's hard to pick, especially since they all ended up on the 5t. Right now I'm on exkernel though I am partial to flash. Battery life is amazing on all 3, but the overclock on ex just adds that extra bit of smoothness that I've never experienced before. Call it placebo but I just love this kernel (exkernel).
any more input?
im curious to know if fsync affects battery performance at all, can someone also test this out if you are on a kernel that enables disabling the fsync feature

Tried it but didn't notice any difference.
Technically it should improve performance when using the phone, but it won't be noticeable.

simple and steady, close to stock for daily using.
blu_spark, always on the Fastlane. ?
Does flashing a custom kernel solves Google play services battery drain?
Do I need custom recovery and root to flash a custom kernel? I'm not willing to play with kernel adiutor so I'm not really interested in rooting

Custom kernel has nothing to do with google play services. You need custom recovery to flash a kernel, but most kernels for op5t are "flash & forget" which mean there is no reason to change the setting of the kernel.

maybe not Google play services specifically, but with my latest phone (zuk z2), kernel was directly related to deep sleep
stock OOS/kernel has a serious issue with Google PS in terms of deep sleep. Besides that, I dont feel any need to flash a custom kernel. SOT is incredible already, and performance is really fluid.

If you are OK then there is no need to flash a kernel. If an app is crap (like Google services or facebook) the kernel can't do miracles and its not kernels job to control wakelocks of user apps

I keep changing between blu and new kernel
Not sure which to stick with but I think new kernel gives me a bit more battery
