Good news on Mate 7 Android 6.0 Marshmallow!

Some users have leaked Mate 7 Android 6.0 Marshmallow screenshots on Huawei official Chinese forum .
It seems like they had connected their Mate 7 to HiSuite and received the B506 update there.
But apparently, Huawei is only planning to start Mate 7 user testings of Android 6.0 on 22nd November with limited users on its official Chinese forum.
So it is unclear whether there has been a fault of releasing the B506 version early.
As a new user, I am not able to post pictures here. Screenshots can be found on the Huawei official Chinese forum within the Mate 7 thread. :fingers-crossed:

I won't update to LP and just use KK untill MM is out and tested.

I don't think that there's official lollipop update over ota ..only the one's available on here. I have b327 with the b300 ...everything else works fine but notification panel swipe down with finger print sensor does not

I have an official B324 OTA running on my Mate 7 and it works fine, no Problems...But I think they've stopped it,because
of the Sim-Bug some People had...

Official M3 Android 7.0 Nougat and EMUI 5.0 entering beta yesterday?

Short answer shorter: a leaked EMUI 5.0 schedule from Huawei claims the M3 edition of Android 7.0 (not 7.1) and EMUI 5.0 (with rumored much lower EMUI annoyance quotient (EMUIAQ)) is going into beta, and this may have already been released as of this past Wednesday the 18th. Release version is scheduled to go final in April and public in May. No word on if this is correct, current and not delayed, or even real. If you can read Chinese you may be able to glean a bit more info from the image.
Mate 8 users update to EMUI 5.0 over here.
Bonus cookie points if you know sekrit publik Huawei FTP dumps to check. Post type set to Q&A so any ROMs can get put up top.

That's actually a good question. I couldn't find any infos either...
I hope open beta comes soon, the 6.0 build is slow as hell.

I saw an update today, changing the build number from B002 to B003, but no other version info or specifics listed. I'll update tonight and see what it is.

Has anyone had success signing up for the Beta program & actually received outreach of any kind?
Also, has anyone from the US gotten signed up?

I'm on BTV-DL09-C100-B302 (a very advanced EU test version I guess) and it is very stable.
If you can find an android 6 EMUI 4.1 full stock rom for your region (equivalent to BTV-DL09-C100-B009 for Europe), you can always, while waiting for the official release, update to a very advanced test/unofficial version if you find one for your region also.
BTV-DL09-C100-B302 has been very stable so far and it offers a nice look and feel and experience. I do love EMUI and the v5.0. It's a nice mix between IOS / android.
I don't think the official release will be any different and better than BTV-DL09-C100-B302. Security and bug fixes probably but very fine as it is.
Better battery life so far, wifi, bluetooth and LTE and... fingerprint sensor are perfectly stable. Compared to B006, better cellphone signal strength and it's stable (or my cell provider has improved the coverage in my area which is also possible also).
Like you, I would love to get a full official Nougat EMUI 5.0 rom though.

I have EMUI 4.1 for my BTV-W09 and looking to get EMUI 5 or 5.1... any news on the upgrade date yet???

I unlock my S6 running Nougat with fingerprint and I noticed that on MarshMallow it did not require the PIN as much as it does on Nougat. I would say that Nougat has tighter restrictions regarding fingerprint unlock. I only use the fingerprint to navigate, partly because of this behaviour.

Just ask: when will Huawei release the kernel source of Nougat as is required by the Linux GPL license.
Make it maybe even clearer: Huawei is currently violating the GPL license as the kernel sources for Nougat are not released yet. When will this violation stop?

They are not going to release to us EMUI 5.1
They have said that they will release us an update with extra features after June but not EMUI 5.1
Why i don't know.
I got an email back from Honors Facebook page.
They asked me for a screenshot of the page on my phone that says that i need kernel source code !!
This shows what we are dealing with here.
The guys at Honor ain't got a clue.
I'm guessing that EMUI is just handed down to them from Hauawi and Honor have no control or say over releasing anything

The Facebook groups are only there to answer stupid questions like where can I buy this phone or what colours option is this phone available in? No tech questions what so ever.... I've given up hope on Huawei long time ago.

Go to Settings ->About Phone -> Legal Information -> Open Source Licenses
And you can screenshot that first section right there that say they will provide you with a copy of kernel source code if you request it.

You have to take into account that the kernel, as well as every other part of the operating system is built in China, specifically, in their Jenkins instance, that's why neither Honor USA nor Honor UK will (be able to) help you.

So I finally found Huawei's instructions for requesting the Honor 8 EMUI 4.1 opensource software here.
Here's the contents of the readme.txt file within the FRD-L04_MM_EMUI4_1_opensource.zip file:
Huawei Device Co., Ltd ("Huawei")is pleased to provide you the corresponding open source code of the device. If you want the code, please contact us with an email titled "Open Source Codes Issue" to [email protected]. Please note we may charge you the cost of physically performing source distribution like sending you a CD of the Open Source Codes, if you reqest. And the code download link will be ready soon.

I sent an email following their instructions requesting the EMUI 5.0 source code. We'll see if I get any response.
If not, the next step is probably to involve the Free Software Foundation (www.fsf.org). There is a page at http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-violation.html describing how to report GPL violations.
There is a file at /etc/NOTICE.html.gz on the Honor 8 that contains a NOTICE.html listing all? of the opensource licensed software on the device and the specific license covering each file. One possible avenue is the f2fs software that's copyright Samsung Electronics and released under the GPLv2. They might be willing to enforce their copyright on a competitor...

But what really is the issue with the kernel? Didn't they at least released the emui 4.1 source (and so the blobs needed)?
Can't this be used in a modern kernel, too?
Even if they release emui 5 kernel, what happens, let say with lineage 15 or 16 when there is no newer emui kernel?
How do other projects handle this, as there still are new versions of lineage for old devices?

Because 'other projects' OEM's do release the kernel source.

Why does this affect development? Let's make clear the kernel / userspace barrier, the kernel is (supposed to be) open source while the userspace drivers are not, so it makes sense to use the Nougat (proprietary) pre-built drivers because they'll work better with the Android framework, but those drivers are 'tied' to the kernel. It would be an option to rollback to the emui 4 kernel, but that would also mean to use the closed source userspace drivers.
TL;DR
If we want to use the newer libraries, we need the newer kernel

I doubt it that other companies release source code for devices not longer supported. There always is an end of life and still lineage comes up with new releases for those devices.
There is still new lineage for Nexus 4 or 5 or even older devices that also needed binary drivers and from my understanding those drivers are not open source, are they? With blobs i mean the binary files.
If i remember rightly, the only device with fully open source drivers is HTC HD2 since the drivers where reverse engineered back than in the good old days.
So why can't we take the binary drivers from emui 4 and use them with some adaptation to the interface in newer kernel versions as i assume is done for other devices as there are no more official updates?

Granted I'm not a developer, but I had wondered something similar -- can we cross-compile using the closed binaries from MM using a 4.1.18 kernel version.

If Huawei Nova or even old P9 lite got EMUI 5, Im sure Honor 8 will receive EMUI 6.
Ps Honor 8 should have EMUI 5 on start, we waited short for Android 7. For Example Huawei P8 still receives updates (security patches etc).

Huawei support his phones anyway. We'll see soon, I hope H8 will receive Oreo

As you can look by screenshots, different sites have differents toughts about Honor 8 "Android Oreo" update. The German site says it is in list for a possible update, the other it isn't in that list (but they are not sure because they marked the phone as controversial) . Now nothing is official but we have to wait (or push) Honor to take a decision anout the future of this great phone. We have to understand if "two years update" means "two major updates at least" or just "we will push security updates and won't abandon H8".

I am certain we will get it, but I am also certain it will take ages to release. May be wrong on both my opinions though.

I believe the most important question is not whether we will receive EMUI 6.0 (which is a possibility according to some sites: https://newsnexa.com/tech/huawei-android-8-0-update-emui-6-rom/ ) but whether EMUI 6.0 will implement Project Treble:

Essentially Project Treble (which will be enabled on phones shipping with Oreo) will allow the "Windows Update for Android", receiving security (and possibly other) updates via Google and not via the manufacturer. Or at least allow Huawei to implement said updates faster. Without it, Android 8.0/EMUI 6.0 will be the last useful "official" upgrade for our phone.
In any case, I won't hold my breath..

I think it isn't true...first the "oreo" logo present here replaced the "EMUI" logo that should be there. This can be easily changed by "Emui theme editor" with or without root. Second, the other info could be faked by any root user through build.prop editor. I think it is a theme applied to nougat with some build.prop info changed

Actually the fact that we will get emui 8 is confirmed by Honor once again and this time there is a thread in xda. Note that Huawei could well make a special version of emui 8 that runs on nougat. Xiaomi has been doing this with their phones as well

You can't base off of another phone company SMH. Honor has never does that and I highly doubt they ever will. Don't base what another company is doing to try to justify what u say, when again honor has never does that.

I would much rather have emui 8 using nougat without bugs than one using oreo with a ton of them though. I am however currently at a custom ROM and I will change back only if it has oreo.

sigh....... it seems that @damenbm is a true believer and wont even consider that honor/huawei might screw over its customers. regardless of treblized Oreo release..... some great devs will more than like hack together a treble rom for this phone. till then, lets just wait.

I just said that there is a possibility that we get emui 8 without oreo. Not that it is likely

You still don't understand that it's not emui 8 if they don't bring Oreo. There just bringing some features over that's not emui 8. That is something completely different. Smh

In fact i wrote it "EMUI 8 Feature Ported" wich means not new emui itself. However, the image clearly let us understand that the new skin will come. Now if it is with or withou Oreo only God knows.

As useful as discussing the angel's sex. Can be a port to Nougat or a full fledged update (Skin+OS). Speculation won't change that: as consumers we're either scammed or supported.
