Screen off - edge feed orientation - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have the night clock enabled. It displays on the RHS of the screen with the top of the text towards the centre of the screen.
However the edge feed ticker orientation seem illogical. I swype along the edge and back to bring up the ticker. Sometimes the ticker is orientated same way as the night clock. Other times it is inverted. If it happens to be orientated same as night clock and I tilt the the phone towards me by raising the opposite edge, the text illogically inverts. By the time I fumble around with it, invariable I bump a button & turn the screen at which point I give up with the feature as a gimmick. Then just use the regular display. What am I doing wrong?

Does any one actually use the screen edge ticker? Seems it just a gimmick of little use.

Im not sure, but I dont use Edge Feeds and Edge Lighting, as they keep the screen sensors "ON" at the phone edges, consuming unnecessary battery.

Call button images burned into the the screen?

Hi
not sure if anyone else has noticed this but it seems that the call end button, the button to view the dial pad and the button to view speaker options are burned into my screen!!! viewing in most apps it is not noticable but if you open internet explorer and go to a new page without loading a website the images of the buttons and very visiable in a brownish color I have had my focus since it was released in the US, I have also checked my wifes focus and it also has this burned into her screen.. Has anyone else noticed this?
Yes, I have the call tile, message tile, and the little circle/arrow burned into my screen. As you said, it's only visible on light colored screens, but it is visible. Unfortunately, unlike the temporary burn-in on new plasma tvs, this burn-in will not go away.
If you want to see something really bad, go up to the at&t store and check out the Focus that's on display. The Focus at my local at&t store looks horrible. I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy that phone if they saw that display model...
edit: by the way I love your weather app, I have had a few problems with it over the time i've used it, and you have always been fantastic with your support. Thanks!
Are you using blue tiles? I heard Blue OLEDs burn out faster than other colors and changed my tiles to green.
I have been using the brown almost exclusively; occasionally I'll go with blue, green, or lime, but the brown just looks the best to me.

thanks for the comment. on to your screen you have the actuall tiles burned into your screen? wow i only have the call end and function buttons burned i think its related to having my display on bright i took it off the automatic.
It's actually not the tile, it's the icon inside the tile that is burned in, but it's only visible on white screens. It's still quite annoying. As soon as the hd7s is out I'm going to compare screens, if the slcd is close to the samoled then i'm jumping ship I think...
and yeah my screen is on bright (not automatic) also. I think my problem is that I have the time out set to 5 minutes, and I never locked it myself

Based on HTC's latest track record with the Desire HD and Inspire 4G, make sure you analyze the viewing angle of the HD7-S. HTC has said it will have a Super LCD but, according to an answer they gave to a customer complaining it wasn't true S-LCD tech, the display will likely be what HTC is calling "Super" LCD...meaning it is their name for the super-sized display...and having nothing to do with true S-LCD tech.
If the viewing angle isn't as good as the iPhone 4 or Focus...or other SAMOLED/AMOLED equipped devices...then it isn't the higher-tech display but just an ordinary non-TFT LCD.
Super AMOLED is a great screen. But the pixel life span is still way short. The Blue pixels are the shortest. The old stats are 2000 to 4000 hours. New information point it around 10000 to 14000 hours. But Samsung didn't release any spec on this.
You should always keep the screen dim and keep it on as short as possible. Reportedly use a red theme will not only preserve blue pixels but also prolong battery life.
No burn in here. I have the phone set to turn off screen within 30 seconds, and have always used Lime colour tiles since it matches the Xbox Live tile.
Just a follow up on this issue, and possible a "what not to do" post. The burn in on my screen is getting worse. On a white screen, I can now see the phone icon, message icon, small circle/arrow, the word calender, and my google mail icon. I have the screen set to time out after 30 seconds, and I have the brightness set to high (not auto).

Always on screen just for the edge of the screen?

Hey all,
Curious if there is any option to have the always on screen just show up on one of the edges, I think it did that last year on the S6 Edge +? I personally prefer that since the clock might get super bright in a dark room if there is no option to dim.
Hope somebody knows!
Thanks
Yupp there was Auto Cocktail on features, maybe someone can build it for the S7 Edge too
Yes you can do this. Settings>Display>Night Clock>then just set the time you want night clock to show up and it will show the time, Next alarm time and Bat level on the edge.
I was wondering this as well, and I know it can be used as night mode but is it possible to customize it sort of like having the Edge Panels as AOD? Like maybe I want it to stay on with my S Planner, is it possible?

How to adjust Always On Display (AOD) brightness?

I really love this new Always On Display (AOD) feature, it's really classy and elegant.
But, one thing I noticed is that the brightness level seems to be automatically adjusted, and when its bright it surely drains the battery.
Is there anyway to set this brightness manually? I tried changing the display brightness in manual mode, but it does not seem to use that settings.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I dont think there is an option, if there is i am also interested.
I personally thought the Display sometimes was too bright.
i..e In a Dark Room and the Light was more ambient than it really needed to be.
Then the misses would ask me to turn off the night light lol!
Always On
Dear All, I just bought my S7 Edge and picked it up yesterday. I'm quite impressed with this display!
I thought the same thing you guys tought... The Always On Display is very bright!
But here is some info that I searched over the internet. Don't know about it's reliability, but seems legit.
New Always On Display
An interesting function that first appeared on the Galaxy Note 4 Edge in 2014 was always keeping a portion of the OLED screen on when the phone is off (in standby), so certain content can be displayed all day and all night long, but with a very small power drain that has very little effect on the battery running time. This is possible on an OLED display with a mostly black background because every sub-pixel is independently powered, so black pixels and sub-pixels don’t use any power.
The new Always On Display mode shows various personalized clock, calendar, status messages, notifications, and images on the main screen when the phone is on standby. It measures the ambient light level and has both day and night modes, plus it’s smart enough to stay off when the phone display is face down, or it senses a dark confined space such as a pocket or handbag. The OLED display produces an illuminated main screen image 24 hours a day so you can always discreetly check it with just a glance. As a result, the OLED Always On Display will reduce the need for a smartwatch, which seems likely to become an endangered species. We’ll cover this in more detail below.
Here is where I picked it up. Cheers Guys!
(Received a message with the information that I can't post url's.. ) sorry...
Type this in google, "always on display s7 edge brightnes" then it is the 3rd link in the url contains displaymate
same, it quite bright, and with my testing if you can keep ut at its lowest brightness, it consumes 0.3%/hr. that would be absolutely great.
there is an app always on display plus which helps in that
if you mark on auto brightness , it will be done
I unmarked Auto Brightness and seems not brights
Hello guys did anyone find a solution to this?

I've noticed that it is automatically adjusting by the amount of light in the room (and it's quite sensitive, always brighter than needed). It would be great if there was an option to manually set the brightness, but only small bunch of people are actually interested in this.

This app does not changing the actual brightens, seams to be there is no solution yet.
I tried changing the screen brightness to minimum and disabling auto brightness, but the AoD brightness seems to be controlled independently.
Trying out an app called Always On AMOLED - it has a night mode. Gonna test power consumption of both
Mine used to auto adjust but not anymore. I think the last software update changed this.
GS7
I'd love to have an adjustment setting. I'm having the opposite problem as most. Mine isn't bright enough! Oh well. Hope they change that!
AOD brightness fix for Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. May fix others
This may not help everyone as I am giving you the solution for the S9 and S9 Plus, but look in your settings to see if you have the same thing.
Under 'Lock Screen and Security' select AOD and select 'Show Always'. Once you've selected the Content to Show, disable Auto Brightness then move the slider as far right as possible and underneath that select Show Always.
Job done. Next time you see your AOD it'll be full brightness. It is still not bright enough but better than before. If you then go into 'Clock Style' and change the colour after type and choose a fairly stand out colour, this will make your clock stand out even more.
I hope I've helped at least a few people.

i feel like its to bright... i want to dim it. dont need it to be that clear.... i wil continue my search....
Threw search and having both s7 and s9+ I noticed the 9+ has the ability to adjust the brightness of the AOD very easily in settings or double tap the screen and u see the settings. Works perfect on the 9+ as for the s7 doesnt have the same settings they both say the latest version available is downloaded but it's an s7.. so I just think that setting dont exist on the s7. The brightness is controlled on it's own and u really have no control manually on the brightness.. I think it's a new thing for new galaxies but the 7 isnt gonna do it.. eh.. so I suggest a contrast color which makes it "brighter" to the eye. And basic and big.. it's for quick glances anyways... sucks tho..

Samsung S10+ Proximity Sensor issue

I would like to tell you that it often happens when I pull the S10+ out of my pocket, so the display is not in "stand by" mode, it is not always on display, but it is slightly backlit. Classically, the display is black and shines only AOD. But when I pull it out of my pocket, instead of the classic AOD it shines for hours and even seconds and after them you can see the wallpaper of the locked display and it is slightly backlit. The display itself is dark, but it is slightly backlit and you can see the wallpaper. With the classic AOD, the display is completely black and I have set only hours, minutes, date and battery, and of course, the notification, if any. Does anyone know what it is, whether it can be turned off so that the display does not illuminate the pocket?
I have accidental touch protection on.
As far as I know proximity sensor is only accessible when you are in call, that's why other apps can't access it.
Samsung should remedy this. Because I always change the Always On setting in my pocket. Specifically - Rotation and Brightness Always On.
EDIT: It happens most when I tap wake-up.

Prevent burn in?

So I only went for phones that ever had an LCD display, because they'd not have an issue with burn in, from experience. But high end devices with an LCD display seem like a thing of the past. So, this is my first phone with an AMOLED display.
Now I use my phone constantly. All the time. That said, I actually have the brightness on this lower than my other phones of past, and I am super critical of what I do when binge watching youtube videos, or more. I even copy the link from youtube, paste it into newpipe (since I can resize PiP there) and then have a black screen running and move the screen around for the video on occasion.
But a lot of display issues I see keep arising on other forums, and I thought... Let me check. I got pretty lucky with my display, I think, but I really hate burn in. Upon my testing, when checking grey scale, or off-white images, at low brightness, I catch a very FEINT amount where the status bar is, such as battery and such, and only when brightness is maybe 15% or less.
Now I'm extremely paranoid. I hate burn in. What can I do to hide the status bar? Maybe force immersive mode on all screens? Is there a mod I'm unaware of that'll have it display the colors of the rainbow or something? I actually dislike gesture navigation, and actually switched due to the fact of potential burn in by having the navigation bar always visible. I already accepted I'll be dealing with a hole punch on the phone, burn in is going to drive me mad.

I've used many AMOLED phones and never had any issues with noticable burn in. I even used AOD on my S7 Edge. I keep my brightness all the way up most of the time.
Look into substratum for themes that can change the colors of the status and navigation bars.
I find that I just don't have a device long enough for it to really be an issue. Typical lifespan of a device for me is about 1.5 years.

Relax. Just dive in, the waters are good.
PS you can hide the nav pill thing in gesture on op8pro. Where it's invisible.
I have had no previous issues with burn-in on a phone but did get status bar burn in after 4-5 days of use on the OnePlus 8 Pro and that was mostly indoor use at medium to low brightness. I also noticed anecdotally that it also had noticeable temporary retention (which did eventually fade)
No idea if this was just my model or is typical to the new 10 bit panel OP is using? I had none of the black crush or green issues that others had.
