Hi
I'm struggling to find a proper browser for my Nvidia Shield TV.
I tried to sideload Chrome but failed...
What are the alternatives ?
Why does Google or Nvidia don't provide a default browser?
Thanks in advance
I'm sure you'll get many replies offering suggestions.
I had sideloaded the dev version of Chrome, however if you just say "open chrome" with voice search the SHIELD should now link you to the playstore to download it. You may have actually already installed Chrome but not all apps will show on the Home screen. Look into adding Sideload Launcher to access these apps if you haven't already.
I side loaded Chrome v49.0.2623.105 yesterday and it works fine.
also use chrome dev works fine

Tried Firefox 17 & 18 Beta, both as you say crash after a few seconds, not really bothered though as I use Dolphin (v8.5.1) with Flash support, works great, I have Chrome as well but don't use it as I prefer Dolphin's settings etc.
Bug 791419 - Firefox for Android crashes on start on Kindle Fire HD 7"
Thank you for the feedback. Looks like Bugzilla has a report on the bug:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=791419
Bug 791419 - Firefox for Android crashes on start on Kindle Fire HD 7": Couldn't get a handle to libmozsqlite3.so
Since Mozilla is aware of the Bug we may be able to see the Firefox on the Kindle Fire HD 7" at some point.
Chrome Bata
I did find Google Chrome and have provided a download link for your testing: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/chrome.apk. Looks like it will not support the Flash Player plugin I just installed. Also, it also has the same behavior as my desktop version of Chrome. Crashes under heavy load. Although it is a fast browser.
Firefox nightly works just fine.

Screenshots of Chrome 18.0.1025308 Android app
my kindle fire hd is not rooted.
i installed chrome on kindle fire hd and having this issue when trying to sign in.. i get "Sync: Android system sync disabled. Please re-enable and try again." message.
google apps such as google talk and youtube are working fine on my kindle fire hd.. which would mean that the sign-in is working for those apps.. chrome is having a problem. does the kindle fire hd have to be rooted for chrome to work? i tried this with chrome version 18. i also tried with chrome version 25 but sites like yahoo.com were not rendering on that version.. also syncing wasn't working (same error message).
appreciate your feedback. thanks.

It's my understanding, based on a review at CNet, that this version requires ICS. Since I have been unable to root my Kindle, I need the earlier version. I had it before I reset to factory but the dropbox link at the top of this thread is no longer valid. Could you re-post it please?
This latest version seems to work for me except I can't get to a login screen and synchronicity is one of the main reasons I love Chrome.
Does anyone have a list of sideloaded games from Google play or Amazon that works with the Nvidia gamepad or any other one. Not sure if being rooted or not rooted is of importance!
I would like to see if FIFA 15 works!
I have yet to find a single game that WON'T work. I use Market Helper and then use the web installer so I don't have to sideload the APK files, and they all have worked with a mouse. You can also use droidmote to controll touch games, though I havent' done that I always have a mouse and keyboard at the ready.
They all work you just need a mouse to play the games they made for touch screen.

Has anyone tried any of the games from Nvidia Tegra Zone? I believe they are mostly for tegra 3 but should still work though the graphics might be a little lower?
I haverun games from both the play store, and nvidias own store, and they all work as intended. Even nvidias game stream worked pretty well. I was just playing Saints Row the Third, and set the game on ultimate, and it played with no noticable lag, and yes, I know it's not being run on my system, but mearly the fact that nvidia's servers will handle ultimate with no lag also. Great experience, and better in fact that it was on my PC.

Do apps installed with market helper show in leanback launcher or are they hidden like sideloaded apps?

It's not that they are hidden, but they don't have Android TV support. One of the biggest parts of "support" is having an icon that can display on the TV interface, so they won't show up. I suggest sideload launcher for any non supported apps.
I've been using xbmc/kodi as my launcher and am pretty happy so far.
Can you tell me how to get market helper working? I haven't had any luck getting it to work.

Give it root permissions when it asks. Pick tablet, then nexus 7, hit apply, then ga to a web browser on any machine, go to the play store on the web, and install to the nexus 7 from that. Done.
Just got a Nexus Player and am trying to find out if Chrome works on it. I searched the Play Store but do not find Chrome.
So I searched here and someone said to try Dolphin Browser but I cannot find that either.
Can you surf the web with a browser on a Nexus Player.
I have a keyboard with mouse/touchpad so I won't have any issues there.
Chrome works just fine, I'm still running v5.1.1 .
Although you have to side load the application you can't get out from play store.

If you go to Google Play from a computer, you can remotely install it to your Nexus Player
EDIT: The reason it is grayed out for me is because I already have it installed. It will allow you to select it if you haven't downloaded it to it yet
Maybe a silly question, but how do you turn it on?
I am using voice command as I do not have a shortcut or the "open" option in the app, but it's there another way?

Use Sideload Launcher. Since Chrome isn't intended to be used on Android TV, It won't show up. You can get Sideload Launcher here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.tv.sideloadlauncher&hl=en
So I installed Google play store on my Fire 10 HD, after the install the Kindle reader stopped working nor would it update. Google play worked flawless but the reader stopped working and would not recognize any of the books that we previously purchased where it had prior to installing Google Play. I did a reset as wife likes her books but there are Apps I would like on this tablet as well, on a side note how do you set the home page for the worthless silk browser, instruction on the Web are worthless, why can't I just go to settings and set my home page? ......... Grrrrrrr

It happens because Play Store tries to update Kindle app with it's Google Play version, which of course doesn't work. I'm not sure what will fix that.
I don't think you can change the home page in Silk properly. I also tried. :cyclops:
Silk and GP un HD 10
Silk does not have a home page set, that is why I tried setting the home page. I spoke with a friend who installed GP IN his fire 8 HD and had no issues, so with your reply if I don't use GP to update the Kindle reader I should be good, just turn off auto update and updated nothing kindle with google. I will try this on one of the other units first, also when I installed the files I didn't use the must current files for GP So will try that as well I just used the ones in the videos, I'll keep you.podted on the out come, may gave to chat with amazon about setting the silk home page. as well.
