Phone is instantly shutting down after powering up - P8lite Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got my phone about a week ago and updated to Android 6.0 beta right away. The phone worked fine until today when it just shut down. As soon as I power it up again the notification LED goes yellow and the phone shows the message "Shutting down" immediately.
I got it to work 2 times after leaving the phone shut down for about 20 minutes. When it boots it says that the temperature is too high although there are no apps running and the phone isn't even warm.
The second time the phone worked I updated to the latest official B550 build which didn't change anything. I also wiped the phone in fastboot.
I'd be very thankful for any suggestions.

Probably something wrong with your battery , i would go and check if its ok at some nearby service. It works if you try to power it while the charger is plugged in ?

It makes no difference if I power it on while plugged in.
I think I'll send it back to the shop where I bought it and get another one. Since I only have it for one week I can easily do so.

Nexus 4 wont turn on

Hey everyone, Im having a problem thats making me worry. I was using my phone today and for some reason the phone wont turn on after I turned it off. I havent dropped the phone at all and it hasnt been abused in any way. The last thing I was doing before I turned it off was trying to send feedback for the Yahoo Mail app because it wouldnt sync automatically, but even that was unsuccessful because it wouldnt send. So I thought I should just reboot it but afterwards its not turning on at all.
I tried holding the power button for at least 20 seconds and still nothing is happening, and I tried plugging in the power cord to see if that would help but it hasnt. Has anyone gone through a similar issue? Please Help
Thanks.
Leave it plugged in for fifteen minutes without touching it.

Try holding volume up + power to see if you can get into recovery then reboot from there.
Also, give some more details about your setup...
Rooted/Stock/What Rom/Kernel?
Yea I left it alone for a bit and then I held the power button while holding down both volume rockers and somehow it turned on. I dont know why this happened but I'm just glad it turned back on, it gave me a good scare though. I just hope it doesnt happen again
Mine is completely stock, I havent done anything with it yet
And may I ask what was your battery percentage level like after the short charge? Maybe the phone drained it all just being turned off... There were some cases of this here...
i wanted to add that i had a similar problem with my phone not turning back on. However, I managed to fix what was wrong by just plugging in the usb cable. I know you've tried it, but just in case someone else stumbles upon this thread (like me!) and has a problem turning on their nexus, I wanted to share my experience.
I haven't done anything to my phone other than add my old apps to my Nexus since I received it 1.5 weeks ago. It's stock. I've never dropped it or gotten water on it or anything. I charged it overnight last night and stuck it in my purse on the way to work. I think I briefly saw a working screen after I unplugged it this morning. However, the first time I tried to access my phone today was after I got to work. It wouldn't turn on, though that pinkish light at the bottom was still blinking. I tried calling it and the Nexus wouldn't ring even though the call went through a few rings and then onto voicemail. I tried holding down the power button for a while and also holding the power button with the volume keys to see if that would work, and it did not. Finally I borrowed a usb cable to plug it in, hoping the jolt of power would wake it up. That worked. It gave me the charging symbol for a little bit and then gave me the startup/loading screen with the glowing x made of arrows. I checked my battery and it was at full charge. Well, it was at 85%, which is odd since I plugged it in for about 9 hours last night to charge and there has only been 3 hours of non-use since I unplugged it. Also, if it was really turned off during those 3 hours it shouldn't have ate up any battery. Anyway, I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents in case anyone else has this problem. My brother, who gave me the Nexus, told me that he only has 2 weeks to return it if there's something wrong with it or I don't like it. Needless to say this gave me a scare, since the 2 weeks is almost up.

Yes this happened to me the other night. I was making a phone call and accidentally hit the power button. I then tried to turn the screen back on in order to hang up the phone and it would work. I tried holding the button for 15 seconds, tried pressing the volume up/down keys, and still nothing. I then put it back in my pocket for a minute or so and tried again. When I did that the screen came back on and the call was still active. Very strange, and I hope it doesnt happen again....

Same thing is happening to me right now.
Running stock. Not rooted. Phone charge was around 70% and I was on twitter and the app force closed. So I decided to restart my phone then went to turn it back on and it wont respond. Tried holding down the power button for 20 sec. Volume up and power, volume down and all 3 at the same time. Still nothing. Leaving it on the charger for awhile and the screen is blank no battery logo or anything.
Not quite sure what to do now?
That's scary

I get the same. I use Dophin Browser . After that i reboot my Nexus 4.
I try to hold Power Button for 1 minutes or more. But nothing change. I
I try hold Power + Volum Down - or Volum + but get same result.
I plug in Adater and wait for it. I will check it 2 hour later.
My Nexus 4 use Stock Rom, Rooted. and this first i get this problem. Please advise me on this case. Thank
I'm having similar problems. Lots of random rebooting and refusals to turn back on sometimes, even though the LED at the bottom is flashing so i know the phone is still powered up. Also, sometimes when i have it plugged into a computer through usb it will get extremely hot and completely shut down, not turning back on for a long time. I called the google play store and someone is going to get back to me. I love my nexus 4 so i hope i can get this fixed or a replacement.

I had this issue too a couple of times playing Pandora through my car's Bluetooth. That was when the Nexus 4 had 4.2.1. I have not had this issue with Pandora since the upgrade to 4.2.2.
However, I just now had this issue with Movie Studio app and exporting a video I edited. It turned off its screen like normal screen timeout but then would not come back on.
I had to Volume Up + Power button for a few seconds and then release to get it to reboot.
This same thing is happening to me. Haven't found a specific cause...
Just got the same issue
Today got mine not turning on.
Managed to turn it on by holding volume up and power button together for about 30 seconds while phone was on a stock charger. After that I saw blinking orange led. When I resolved buttons there was a battery pictogram. After pressing and holding power button I finally got turning on vibration and Google logo.
The only things a made after the charging were making few photos of my cat (from the lock screen) viewing them in gallery. Then I locked the screen and put the phone on a shelf. In a hour I was not able to turn it on.
My phone has stock rom and only few third party apps installed.
I got muy Nexus 4 on 21-Dec-2012. 4 days ago I flashed to Android 4.2.2 which phone dowloaded itself. After flashing phone was rebooted.
What I noticed is that it shows 70% battery. But It was fully charged few hours ago.
30% in 2 hours! In my opinion some service/app drained these 30% by using 100% of processing power that caused overheating and/or hanging.
I too have just had this problem. And I've had it previously when making calls, the screen simply won't respond at all, its quite annoying.
This morning my alarm went off and the screen wouldn't turn on, it went on for so long I almost threw the phone across the room. I eventually held the power button and volume down/up button and then the led blinked orange a few times and the phone reset, now it seems fine.
Its a very annoying problem, and could be very serious depending on what you are doing, might have to phone the play store and tell them.

This has happened to me twice now. First time was a month ago and the second time was this morning. Phone was at 100% just woke up checked my messages turned off phone 10 min later it will not turn on. Un plugged cord re plugged cord nothing finally pressed up/down vol and power for about a minute (long minute) and the phone rebooted. YIKES!
Every thing seems normal now but I hate that scare and the fact that it has happened to me twice. Full Stock, not rooted.

Happened second time.
I was able to turn it on again by following the same steps. But this time I got some strange issue: after resolving vol+ and power buttons I saw battery pictogram with some frame with a blue background; when phone finally booted up this frame and blue background were visible through the my desktop background an screen itself was much lighter with pure colors. Only after about 5 soft resets screen seems to became nice again. Each reboot caused blue frame to become less visible. I'm confused and worried.
Also during all these reboots this frame with blue background was visible even in behind "Google" and "X" logos during booting up.
Another strange thing is that on screenshots I made this frame is not visible.
That would have to do with LCD or software..
As the battery & Google are just pictures that change. If you understand what in saying lol ?

my device has just quit workin all together

my att g2 4.2 rooted stock rom worked normally last night, this morning I plugged it into the car charger and it displayed it was charging with 2% charge present. I pressed the power button the boot animation began I set it down and when I picked it back up a few minutes later to use it...well nothing...the charging indicator led wasn't lit and when I pressed the power button LG appeared for only a split second then went black. when I plug it in same thing, LG logo for a brief second then disappears. I haven't done anything recently except xposed modules, no flashing of anything. any ideas? thank you guys
It happened to me (on other devices) when I let them discharged too far. Just allow it to charge awhile then try to hold the power button
for 10-20secs ... The NookHD+ were the worst in this situation (it won't charge sometimes, I had to plug/unplug a few times to initiate a charge, I was almost about to RMA one of them).
something else that's odd
when I plugged my device into my laptop the laptop acted like I just plugged in 12 different things that all needed to have their disk formatted. what is going on? wierd

try charging the device in offline mode ( turn it off and let it charrge for a while) and then turn it on . mind wouldnt turn on because of very low charge yesterday. doing this helped
update
I let it charge for several hours, nothing...it appears to be in some kind of boot loop. I can't turn it off all the way, I hold the powwer button for tensec or so and the LG will appear for a second then disapear and then the back light stays on. oh ya, when I plugged it in a few hours ago it wouldn't turn on but the red LED was flashing. I'm not sure how long it stayed on, but it was off when i got back to it several hours later. thank you for your time fellas!
If you can get to recovery at all, leaving it on charge in there. Has saved me in a similar situation.

Could have been the power switch that makes the phone short circuit and goes off anytime.

Thank you sirs, unfortunately still no good
it sounds like you had the same thing as everyone else yesterday that had twrp installed and the carrier automatically updated the system.
I could not get my phone recognized by the laptop and had to use pdanet drivers, which finally worked, but I still had to dig for the device. then had to flash back to stock. There is a pretty good thread on this topic, already. Search for it in the developer section. Do not skip any steps, such as setting the date back to jan2012 and turning off the internet. go slow and methodically, or you will miss a step and get frustrated.

[Q] Yet another Nook not holding charge and hanging at the boot screen

Google shows me I'm not even remotely alone in my trouble, but with the way tech works every problem is at least a little unique. I'll give a rundown of what I've down and whats happened up to this point.
First, I bought it used from Amazon. Very Good condition from a seller with 99% or whatever satisfaction. I think I've bought from them before, actually. So while this isn't a new device, I know I wasn't scammed. It was also factory reset and I'm assuming it wasn't rooted, though admittedly I have no idea how to check on a Nook.
Second, when it arrived the first thing I did, naturally, was turn it on. Plugged in the Nook to my computer, it booted up just fine, I registered, and loaded one a few ebooks with Calibre. The books opened up, they looked great, we were golden. That was when I noticed the battery indicator in the top didn't have a number on it. It was solid black with a ?. I thought that was weird, so I tried rebooting the device. That was when I was hit with an update, it downloaded and installed then rebooted. Here's when it all went to crap.
Third, I can get into the device. If I hold the power button and wait a bit it takes me to the homescreen where I'm met with a 0% Battery warning saying to plug it in or the device will shut off. Waiting for this message do disappear seems to give me normal access to the device, except the battery indicator is still just ?. This still happens now, after about 10 hours of charging.
Fourth, plugging in the device to anything be it wall charger or computer causes the device to reboot back to the Read Forever screen. Even if the device is completely powered off. It just hangs at the boot screen and goes nowhere. If I hold down the power button, or power + n, all it does is flash the screen to blank and then goes back to the boot screen. If I unplug it and hold down power it goes back to the previous problem.
That's everything I know. I seem to have the proper Nook micro USB cable, but the adapter is a little white Chinese looking thing so I know it's not the official. So I've switched to my Nexus 5's micro USB cable since I know it works and plugged it into my PC. The charging indicator is on, but thanks to my minor colour blindess I'm having a hell of a time deciding if it's orange or green. It's either green, orange, or yellow for sure though. Right now I'm going to go to sleep, let it charge through the night. I've had a similar problem happen to my Nexus 7 where it wouldn't turn on, and a nightlong charge seemed to fix it so who knows, this thread might be useless in the morning.
In the more likely event that it's still very useful, any help would be appreciated. And please try to keep it simple. I'm not new to technology or Android in phone/tablet form and all the associated hairpulling, but this is literally the first time I've ever dealt with an ereader. I'd like to get this solved at home, since I don't have a warranty and the price to ship this thing back to the seller would make this end up costing more than a new one would have since I'm Canadian and the seller isn't.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: After a night of charging, still 0%.
This, unfortunately, is the sign of a factory buggy (for lack of a better word) device. I doubt there's any hope. Sorry about that.
Keep me updated.
I think that there might be software to blame. My Motorola Defy also had that sort of weird battery behaviour after one of factory resets. Since then I have to install a patch written by one of XDA members every time I make a reset. But it works. Unfortunately I have no idea if it can be helpful in this case. (I'm refering to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34590229&postcount=1 )
Nonetheless I would seek some slight hope in disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.
Alright, so. Progress report:
I tried the 8 failed boots trick to reset the device back to the original firmware. This brought me back to square one. The device worked, I could load books on to it via USB, and read them. But the battery indicator was just a question mark. Going into the settings revealed that the battery was at 100%, or at least claimed to be. But hey, I could read on it so I figured I was alright.
Now, a couple days later, I just woke up to find it with a new problem. Pressing the little N button to wake it up isn't doing anything. It won't respond to holding the power button down and my computer wont pick it up when it is plugged in. The charging light still comes on but I don't know how much it can be trusted.
I'm going to let it charge for a bit, but I'm beginning to think the battery is just toast.

Hi, I just went through something similar 48 hrs ago. The NST is frozen, stuck at reading forever. Before that, the battery icon had a '?', and the device info said battery status was "unavailable". Plugging in to charge had a solid green light.
I read around, and what worked was to open the case, and disconnect the battery. Google said to wait 30 mins, I waited 1. Re plugged in, put it to charge. The LED turned to orange, and 15 mins later, the NST booted. All good now.
Total cost: set of TORX scredrivers (you need a T5).

Okay, so. No T5 but I managed it with a teensy weensy flathead. Unlugged the battery, left it that way for about 20 minutes, plugged it back in, then left it to charge. 15 minutes later I came back and viola, it works and the battery is reporting it's remaining juice. Thank you very much, that seems to have done the trick.
You know, this might be the first time I ever managed to have a tech problem solved entirely by a forum.

Nexus 7 won't charge/power on/can't access fastboot or bootloader

Hi guys,
My Nexus 7 (2012) turned off(not properly) when the battery level was low and won't power on. I tried a battery from a working tablet and tested my battery in another tablet. It seems like the issue is somewhere else.
These are the things I tried:
- leave it for a couple of hours charging (no battery sign at all)
- hold the power button with/without the volume levels while it being both connected and disconnected.
- tested my battery in another tabled and put a fully charged battery from another tablet
- made sure that the battery is connected
There was one more thing I tried - to press the Power button with no battery inside but the tablet being connected to a laptop via the USB cable. One could hear something like a boot noise coming from the tablet (doesn't happen when the battery is inside)
In December, 2015 I installed a Custom ROM with android 5.1.1 which I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/development/android-6-aosp-grouper-t3268172/ (the thread was renamed and is now about the Android 6 update) The tablet worked fine for these 3 months but one day when I was checking my email it went off and won't respond to any actions.
Could you please help me to fix it? I'm just not ready to give up on this tablet. Thanks!
Both you and i, same model, essentially, the same circumstances. I also tried every method you mentioned as well. Even down to the flashing of a rom. Same results. I even tried "jump starting" the battery. Not wanting to give up on it. It sits in my closet like that boy in A.I at the bottom of the ocean, waiting... I know that is not the reply or help you were looking for. Just so you know, you are not alone..

Well, that's a good start, at least I am not the only one!
Have you tried to connect your device via USB? My laptop can see a connected device but it can't recognize it and I hear some sounds coming from the tablet when I try to hold the `power` button. This made me think that it can be a display/screen related, so the device works but we can't see it due to the broken screen/display. Don't know how to check that though.
Same here, stock Nexus 7, won't turn on, just switched off one day and won't come back on, have tried everything as suggested above, can't get it to flicker, doesn't even register the power connection with a green light or anything

Try replacing the screen, just to check. If that doesn't fix it, at least you have a brand new screen!

I fix mine,
let it sit on the charger for a hour, then hold down the button for 20 sec
same issue here as well ive had it for about a year and im not able to access anything via my pc google help forums had no answer either, looks like we may be screwed..........
Hi, I just had same issue with my tablet only thing is that I was using it with ~20% of battery, nothing special - browsing the web using chrome, then the screen lit gray and shut off. After that no response either from charger, holding power button for 60+ seconds didn't work either, tried re-connecting the battery, still with no signs.
And then, I tried to plug in the charger and then pressing VolumeDown+Power immediately after connecting the charger. Suddenly got some response, that battery charging icon appeared, and it shows my battery charging, but from 0%. Still waiting to charge a bit until I can try to boot it.
I'll update this post with any news.
EDIT: When I connected my tablet to the charger it had that hissing sound, but after few minutes it stopped.
After 15 minutes of charging I managed to boot my Nexus7 with 7% of charge in it a that moment, It seems to work for now.
Summarry of what I did to solve my problem:
1. Opened the back of the N7 (I used a guitar pick for this) and re-connect the battery.
2. Then plugged in the charger and at the same time pressed VolumeDown+Power, battery icon lit up but went out, repeated step 1, and then step 2 again gave me animated battery charging animation which showed up for like 10 seconds
3. Waited for 10-15 minutes and tried to boot normally. And it works now

This helped me get my N7 2012 back up and running, too. Thank you so much!

Hi guys,
My Nexus 7 (2012) turned off(not properly) when the battery level was low and won't power on.
Thanks!

Honestly, I do not think it is the battery, I can see the Charge signal, and the Battery is showing 1,784 VDC tested unplugged and disconnected, my smart young co-worker seems to think POST is failing, I still never see a "Charging" indication.
Does anyone know , Is there a fail safe, say the battery is disconnected, and usb charger is plugged in, will i just see all 5VDC at the sub port, ?
I never see a screen flicker, DEAD battery sign, nothing.
co-worker, tried some things that made sense when he explained what he did, I would have to agree with him.
Now it is rooted, 4.x something I forget, Never went to 5.x did once early and did not like it, Back stock, ran 2 days no issues, Rooted again, 4.x still do not remember, worked great 3-4 months, Sons ran it to DEaD and that was it, put it up for 90 days or so, wife got new tablet, kids have Fire each, and here i am tabletless, CRAP, did not want to throw to much $$$$ at this thing, nor did I want to buy a new one.
Samsung Tablet here we come.
any body want this Nexus 7, it is a 2012 model.

Phone suddenly wont turn on

I woke up this morning after realizing my alarm on my phone didnt go off. When I went to check my phone, I found that it won't turn on.
I tried the Volume Down + Power for 15 seconds, 30 seconds, and 1 minute. I also tried safemode Volume Up + Power for 15 sec, 30 sec, and 1 minute.
Tried connecting to the computer to see if I could adb reboot it but the phone isnt being detected by adb. I can hear it connecting and disconnecting constantly from windows.
I put the phone on the charger last night at about 60% charge, so it should have had enough battery to sit unused for a few hours but it was only about 6 hours later that I noticed it wouldn't turn on.
Right now I am just hoping the battery bugged out and drained so the phone is sitting on the charger charging up but there's no signs of life. My phone has been fine for a month with the September patches and fine before that. I havent taken the october patch yet.
My phone is a little bit over 2 months old.
What else can I do and what would have caused the phone to suddenly not turn on?
Update: Phone has been charging for about 2.5 hours. It is charging at a constant 11mA (0.11A) and has taken in about 220mA. The screen still hasn't came back on. Email sent to Essential a few hours ago, no reply yet.

I'm from Mexico, but I do not know if my equipment is still guaranteed, is there any way to check if it has a guarantee? because I do not want to have a nice paperweight.

Phones purchased in the US come with a 1 year warranty.
I would assume Mexico would get a similar warranty.
You will need your original proof of purchase.
Contact Essential and explain your situation, they will probably be able to come up with a solution for you.
https://support.essential.com/hc/en-us
Click the “?” In the lower right corner and send them an email that explains your situation.
Couldn’t find a Mexico support link. Even using my VPN set to Mexico, it gave me the US support page.
I thank you for your attention, I let it be completely discharged and I have connected it to charge right now and on ... I am happy !!!!
Same problem here, actually my phone was on but screen would not come out of wake. Screen would brighten slightly when combination of buttons pushed,
This happened to me after about two weeks of use, first time it happened I was able to make it come alive by playing with buttons. Than about a week later after having it charging it would not become active.
Emailed Essential with problem, they sent out a replacement unit.
First time I had problem, I was on PIE non rooted, when it finally died I was stock rooted PIE. I don't think rooting had anything to do with problem since it happened even before root. Network Sprint
good morning to all, I hope and can help my team last night when I was watching videos after 2 hours the screen froze so I decided to force a reboot with which I thought the problem would be solved, but to my surprise it was not like that, the phone when turning on did not give imangen only the screen cleared so I knew it had been turned on, but never gave an image, I let it completely discharged thinking that with that it would be fixed and nothing, I put it on and when I turn on the same thing happens it clears the screen but it does not give an image, try the button convention and nothing that solves it, someone has had the same problem? the phone and try tentadilla unlock and put music in spotify so the touch and sound work, also frame and enter calls as well as calls by messenger! help

I filed trouble ticket at the Essential support web page, then they requested I send copy of receipt, IMEI etc.. Then a day later a new phone was mailed to me. Pretty efficient I must say,
