what firmware should I download for vietnam? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I just got a snapdragon SM-N910F and flashed some custom roms onto it but the reception has been really bad so I want to flash back to stock and see if the region/csc, etc. makes a difference. However, when I flashed custom, I didn't jot down what region/csc it originally was. so I downloaded an app and it says the phone was made in Vietnam. so if someone can tell me which firmware I need for Vietnam, that would be great.
thank you in advance.

The firmwares are interchangeable, you can use any firmware made for N910F model. Also the phone is made in Vietnam, doesn't mean you need a Vietnamese ROM to run on it.

ok thank you. then I guess this phone just has bad reception. I've tried several stock and custom roms and all had very bad reception as I have only 0 to 1 bar of signal. whereas my Note 3 SM-N9005 always has 4 to 5 bars.

Nope, reception is fine on my end, as good as Note 3, if not better, and the call quality is immaculate, that's the best part.
And on XDA hit the THANKS metre, saying thanks doesn't mean much here

what carrier are you using this with? I have t-mobile, but of course it depends where I am from the towers, etc. too; however, with my Note 3 and t-mobile I always get 4 to 5 bars.

I am in India mate, using Vodafone India. Four bars is like always for me, and other time 5 bars, obviously not when I go through a subway or anything, but most times its more than fine.

[Q] Baseband Version doesn't matter that much (for me)... right?

Hey guys. I saw a Nexus 4 (16GB). It had the baseband version of "m9615a-cefwmazm-2.0.1700.33"
I live in Pakistan so i have no 3G/4G/LTE (yup we're that backwards!)
This phone couldn't detect my 2G operated SIM Card :/
Where it detects and worked well with my Galaxy SIII
Still haven't bought that Nexus 4 (buying it 2nd hand).
A person confused me in saying that is was a "CDMA PHONE AND IT CAN'T WORK WITH UR GSM SIMs AND ROOTING/MODDING WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS"
Is he telling the truth? This phone was actually a bargain for me and had no problems whatsoever in the Hardware/Software wise other than the above
Can someone please elaborate this? thank you

He is completely wrong. Nexus 4 is GSM only, with no CDMA variant. If your SIII worked, I don't see why the Nexus 4 wouldn't. It appears to be running an older radio firmware, maybe updating it to 4.2.2 would help.

Pretty much this. Try flashing a newer version of the radio.
Maybe your friend was right (backwards, but right). Your carrier might be CDMA. I know there aren't a lot of carriers that use CDMA outside the US, but maybe your carrier is one of the few. I would try updating the radio first before completely giving up on it though. If you can find out whether they are CDMA or not, that'd help decide whether you can use the Nexus 4.
Oh, and "ROOTING/MODDING WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS" is kind of misleading. Yes, technically, flashing new ROMs can affect the signals and stuff, but if you flash a ROM that has had plenty of testing, you'll be fine. Just pick a semi-popular one.

What's the version of android? If it's 4.2.2 the baseband should either be 48 or 54. 33 is an old one.
Does calling work? Or both calls as well as data don't work?
If it's just data you need to make sure data is enabled in settings and also your operators APN is present.

Note 3 Rubbish Signal... wrong modem? help needed

Hi, I bought my note 3 in UAE and I am using it in the UK. I am on Vodafone. I always get rubbish signal in my house. It is on "emergency calls only" nearly all the time. Also the LTE/4G has NEVER worked since I got it on launch (Sep). Whenever I turn the 4G on the H+ sign never comes up. Some people may argue that Vodafone is a rubbish network. I agree too but I think I may need to flash a different modem? My model is a SM-9005. Do I need to flash a different modem to get the 4G to work? Thanks

You can actually try a different ROM or maybe a custom ROM? At the same time, reception might just be poor in your house. So you might need to make do with regular 3G or EDGE. I no for a fact that in my friend's house i ALWAYS have to switch to 2G because 3G reception is never available, I have SM-N900 tho.

what if i flash a different rom/modem?
I just checked and vodafone operates 4G/LTE at 800MHz. On the samsung uae website it says that the note 3 supports 800MHz 4G/LTE
ROM's won't make a difference as it's the hardware on the device itself.
I also noticed the note 3 doesnt have a superb signal reception... For example in my house my moms s3 and dads s4 have full bars where i on my note have one bar less than they do. Little dissapointed

Check phone status in settings and compare it with the S3 and S4 - you'll see it's just the bar's that show different the dBm's are what counts. You'll see it'll be identical to the S3/4

The device itself has the bands. But you cannot access them by changing the modem. The N9005 supports many many bands but different MPN Codes on each device limit it to specific countries.
It's all a legal thing. Radio frequencies are controlled, unless the UAE version supports the exact same frequency that your UK carrier runs on it won't work. Upgrade to kitkat and test it.

[Q] Galaxy Note 3 modem version - improves signal strength?

Hi,
I have had the note 3 since release here in the UK. I have a unlocked version from car phone warehouse on the three network. However I have poor signal at my desk at work if I hold my phone in the right spot I have H+, but the right 'spot' moves around unfortunately. According to their coverage map I should have LTE signal indoors and out. I do have 4g signal if I leave the building. (I am in the center of London)
So as it appears my signal is close but not quite good enough, I was wondering if there is a good modem firmware out there that people have found helps? I am running the latest software updates (the last 1 I installed was the KitKat upgrade).
Thanks in advance
I am on Giffgaff, they use O2. Currently using the NC2 Modem with no issues and great data speed.

Short off topic, but i dont want to create a new thread: You can only upgrade modem in odin of you have "official status", is that correct? How about a TWRP backup of the modem partition? If s.o passes me TWRP backup of the modem partition, can i upgrade/downgrade modems?

Thanks for the info
my current baseband version is N9005XXUENB1
so the NC2 is slightly newer isn't it? am I right in my understanding that the version number is the last 3 characters of the baseband version?
Is there a good resource where I can get the latest modem version from?

My status is not official. I powered off the phone, waited a few seconds and did the button combo for download mode, and it flashed fine
I have a backup of my current rom/modem in TWRP, i havent had to restore it yet so i couldnt tell you.

Yes it is slightly newer by about a month. If you go over to the alexndr Rom thread in the android development section, in the first post he has just the odin package, its about 50mb.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Katkat modems don't seem to be any different btw, seems they've just rebundled and named the original one - Carrier modem *may* (I say may because I seen no difference) be tweaked slightly different but ultimately it's just a placeholder for APN settings really.
Indoors, always tricky.
It could be related to the frequency band your provider is using. The 800Mhz band penetrates solid concrete with ease, but the higher bands can't.
Any metal in the walls? Killer for any digital signal.
Does anyone else experience the same issues with other phones on the same provider in the same spot?
3G is always weaker than 2G, and 4G is even less powerful than 3G. (Because of the higher required frequency). Have you tried enforcing GSM mode? It'll kill your data speed, but at least you're more likely to get a signal.
Thanks for the help guys.
Yes other people have signal issues too, so I am just looking to get every ounce of signal strength I can.
I had a chat with my network last week and apparently before the end of the month they are rolling out a new spectrum but the support guy didn't know which frequency it was. he was confident it would fix my signal issues. (how true this is or not guess I will see!)
I have tried restricting to gsm and it is still unstable unfortunately
According to the coverage map, 4g signal in my post code is very strong, DC-HSPA i'm on the edge of a strong section. but right on the edge so I can understand dodgy signal. Ive just got my fingers crossed over the next few weeks
Silly suggestion, but... Have you tried opening a window? it could add just enough strength for the signal to stabilize.

[Q] [T-Mobile] VZW S5 Poor Performance on T-Mobile - Bad ROM?

Hello All,
I have 2 Verizon Wireless Galaxy S5s running on T-Mobile, but the performance is awful.
LTE is highly unstable
Overall radio signal in the same place can go from 4 bars to 0
Text messages don't send 1/2 the time, especially over Wi-Fi
Currently I'm running Rick'sRom V20 on 4.4.4 NK2.
I do not want to have to sell the S5 to buy a T-Mobile handset, as I have heard others having good experience taking other World-Devices from VZW to T-Mo without these sort of issues.
Is there anything I can do to improve this? Flash any newer ROM or radio?
Please let me know, thank you!

Wouldn't hurt to try different modems to see if one works better than the next. Here is an article on how to see what band your phones are operating on. My understanding is you need to be on band 4. I checked to see if this works on the galaxy s5 and it does. Mine is running on band 4.
