I've been using my Nexus 6P without problems for a while now but suddenly I this morning I lost service. Tried the following:
- restarting the device
- searching for other operators (just comes up with Error while searching for networks)
- put sim card in another phone (it works)
- put another sim card in my phone (it doesn't work)
- factory reset
So far, nothing has seemed to work to get back my service. I'm running completely stock everything, unrooted, haven't even unlocked the bootloader. Any ideas what might be wrong/what I can do? I'd like to try as much as I can before I have to go back to where I purchased it from.
Did you find a fix for this?
I have the same problem with my 6P.
I have a similar issue. Mine will start and be connected for about 10 mins, and then it tells me the sim has taken to long to respond, and that it is locked.
I ordered a new sim card, but I would like a short term workaround.
I have exactly the same problem, too :'-(
Any way to fix this?
Are all of you running stock or a custom ROM?
Did you recently install any updates?
Did you recently restore from a TWRP backup?
More info is needed to try and diagnose this.
I had the same problem one month ago. It's not a software problem, it's a hardware. I did exactly the same steps as you and I flashed also stock images, but nothing helps. So I send it to service and they replace the motherboard.

I know this issue has been spoken of in other posts, but nothing exactly like the issue I am having and all I have read are not with the s4
I am on factory stock Rogers firmware. I337MVLUAMG1 unrooted. "Not registered on network" is keeping me from doing anything. I can access wifi and all my APN settings are correct. Nothing in my phone looks wrong or out of place.
I have tried 2 new sim cards and that certainly isnt the issue.
My imei and serial are reporting a.ok
Phone was unlocked from rogers and previously being used with bell all with no problems.
I did try some custom roms before heading back to this and thinking perhaps something got screwed up. I inserted my sim after installing omega rom v11 and it has not worked. that was the first time I even tried a sim in the phone. So it has never worked since I got it. Which sucks because I don't know if it was something I did or something that was already in place.
I have done a factory reset with data from settings in the phone and also from stock recovery.
I have removed the battery, sim and restarted. Doesn't help.
Phone says "not registered on network" when trying to make calls and says unregistered sim card when dropping down notification bar.
Any ideas? Help? ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Edit: Ok, after some heaving reading I think the issue lays with the update to Omega v11. I think it changed the efs file structure to a new format and I need to use a newer modem to access it the new format properly.
Can anyone please let me know an mg4 or acceptable modem that would allow me to test this theory and if I can just flash the modem with the stock firmware.
Once again its an i337m currently running rogers I337MVLUAMG1. IMEI + serial working fine but no network access. Looking for a modem that will work with this setup to see if I can access a modified efs folder.
Information of modified efs was read here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2377731

Interesting... hadnt heard of a bad simunlock. good to know!
Any other options?
Answer...... NO!
!!!LESSON TO BE LEARNED HERE! BACK UP YOUR EFS FOLDER!!!!
If you are reading this and never done it... DO IT NOW!
It is a simple thing to overlook. I have been flashing roms for over 2 years and not once have I back it up... New S4.... not so good. Just sent for repair.
Now I wait to get the phone back so I can play with it again
BACK UP YOUR EFS
Update:
I ended up sending it to Samsung and they fixed it for free lol
Model: AT&T SGH-I337
Baseband: I3377UCUAMF3
Firmware: Stock/SHOstock
I bought a used GS4 on Swappa last week. Got it today, rooted w/ Kingo, and installed Safestrap.
I put in my old sim from my GS3 and can't get service on the stock FW or any SS-safe ROM I've flashed.
- All other radios (Bluetooth, WIFI, NFC, etc.) work with no problems.
- The SIM works on my AT&T GS3 with no problems.
Now the strange part is that the SIM is getting recognized, but is missing certain information. (See screenshot)
+ My phone # shows up and is correct
+ My IMEI is correct and matches the sticker on the back
+ Somehow, signal strength is showing up in service mode
I've attached screenshots of various service mode screens that could be of use.
Now the question is: What should I do/ how do I fix this?
Does this happen on both roms?
Honestly, I'd go get a new sim. Cheers
Yes, I've tried it on stock and 3 ROMs I've flashed.
I'll try my brothers ATT SIM when I get home today.
I'm also going to try removing Safe strap and root, then factory resetting.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
- UPDATE -
So I successfully removed Safestrap via ADB, removed root, and factory reset from stock recovery.
The no service problem still persists. I guess the only things it could be now are:
+ My SIM is somehow messed up, as xBeerdroiDx suggested.
or
+ The SIM tray needs to be replaced.
The original owner called me today and affirms that the phone completely worked before.
Does anyone know what else internally could be causing this?
- UPDATE 2 -
OK now I'm at a complete loss. I tried other working AT&T SIMs. Nothing.
Tried replacing the SIM/SD card tray. Also nothing.
I've flashed all stock MF3 and reset EVERYTHING.
I've even gone as far as enabling the service menu and doing a NV_REBUILD multiple times.
Only thing I haven't flashed is a new .PIT because of the signature checking issues with MF3.
It's weird, because I can get a signal if there is no SIM inserted. And I was able to enable data and LTE functionality at one point by messing with the service mode settings. But that was it. No calling or cellular functions.
Could it be that my /EFS partition is somehow corrupt?
I'm getting close to giving up and seeing if Geek Squad can send it in with no warranty/coverage. I don't enjoy having a $400 wifi browser.
Hi Guys I think I got a serious Problem.
A few times a day I'm getting the Error: "Sim Card has been removed, please restart your phone with an inserted Sim Card"
(My device and the error is in german so the translation could be not "word correct")
The Sim Slot and the Sim Card has already been changed so I can say its not related to them. (Via Insurance)
My device is rooted and I tested original(Samsung and Samsung-Custom) as also aosp Roms and it happens on both.
Thanks in advance.

Probably an hardware problem with the main board since you already had the simcard an simcard slot replaced,
I suggest that you have it repaired under warranty.
It's a motherboard issue on the flex connector, put something above flex connected applying pressure and the error will be gone

Thx for the replys, my Knox flag is triggered but I will give it a try to repair it under warranty from Samsung.
The device is under 1 year old so Samsung should not complain about it.
If they refuse to do it I will have a look at the flex connector.
Thanks for the hint
They repaired it in under 2 weeks. Didn't get any info what they did but it runs errorfree so far.
They also changed the old battery to a new one.
Really happy now.
Knox flag was also resetted but I couldn't keep my hands of.
Rooted and new Rom online

Hello, can you tell me where the Flex connector is? I have same Problem.Where should I add something? Maybe you could explain. Thank you very much!
It's not a hardware problem, maybe you can fix change motherboard or slot sim card, but it is a incompatibility problem between Hardware and Software of ROM 4.4.2
I change to AOSP Rom and the problem disappear. (Cyanogem11 4.4.4)
Let's wait for 5.0 Stock Rom if this problem is solved or not.
For me it is an Hardware problem. Tried to flash AOSP rom but did not solve the problem.
I solved putting pressure on sim card
I had a similar problem. The error will appear sometimes several times an hour, necessitating reboot. I have a rooted S4 i337.
I have solved this problem by installing Xposed framework and then fixing some definitions with Greenify. Then I had a new problem with tethering. Fixed it as well by disabling tethering with Wanam module.
All is well now.
I have the same issue with my I9595, since stock ROM, several versions, then with root and custom ROMs same problema.
Just installed 5.0.1 and same again.
I believe is related to some Hardware problema.
It's very annoying because you never know when the bloody message appears on screen and your phone gets ofline.
If someone has any idea on how to fix it without having to take the machine to Samsung is most apreciated.
Hi, I've had some issues with SIM cards in my Mi A1.
I've tried rebooting and I've tried both SIM slots, but neither of them are detected. "No SIM card - No Service" shows at the top of the screen. There's nothing wrong with the SIM itself, it works fine in my old phone (a Redmi Note 3) so I'm not sure what to do now. Everything worked fine yesterday and I haven't dropped it, splashed it with water or anything since then.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks
hello brother please imei number check
hey
I'm having the same issue. How do you fixed it?
Thanks
I had this issue too, try restarting the device 2 or 3 times. If it doesn't work, try doing a factory reset.
was anyone able to fix their SIM issue?
my Mi A1 received an OTA update last month and the "SIM card not detected" msg
when I check my Network Settings, the menu options are all greyed out and i can't do anything with it
i've tried flashing many different versions of stock/custom ROMs
i've tried a variety of different SIM providers (Rogers, Koodo, Fido, etc)
i've even flashed a few modem versions to see if it would fix the signal (cuz that's how i used to fix my SGS2)
but nothing works... it's behaving as if there isn't a SIM card inserted at all
...which is leading me to believe that this could be a hardware failure
anyone with suggestions on how i can fix this? cuz otherwise, it's a great device... it runs AOSPExtended like a champ
thanks in advance
Hi all,
I have a problem with my XC, i hope there's someone here who could help me out with this .
I get a SIM card error when i start the phone. After a while (5-10 mins) the error transforms into "No Service" as if the phone now detects the SIM card but has no service whatsoever.
Things i did to my phone prior to this:
- unlocked bootloader
- installed custom recovery
- root
- installed custom ROM
- drm fix
The phone did function properly for a few months actually after these operations without a SIM card error even once. But then i tried to install custom ROMs again (and i'm sure didn't flash ROMs not suited for XC) -actually tried to install "existenz" ROM but i did get a bootloop so i -once again- did the usual procedure with flashtool and flashed a firmware to set everything back to stock as close as possible. That was, when i started to get the SIM card errors. After several restarts (cold and warm) the phone sometimes recognized the SIM card and i could use the phone normally. But this was true only till the next restart, where i got the same SIM errors again.
Things i tried:
- flashed several different firmwares (official) with flashtool (wiping everything) - all the newest firmwares.
- *#*#72786#*#* in dialer to wipe carrier settings
- *#*#4636#*#* in dialer to go into phone settings and changing those settings randomly
- flashed another AOSP based custom ROM instead of stock sony
- wiping and formatting everything between the flashes of course
- cleaning and re-inserting SIM card (which i never took out before anyway)
But unfortunately nothing worked. Phone keeps to not recognizing the SIM card (which is working just fine in another phone). Everything else works just fine on the phone. The IMEI is displaying correct. I'm almost certain that the fault isn't hardware-based (i didn't drop the phone or exposed in water etc.) but software-based. Did i just managed to brick my phone by flashing something related to the modem which i'm not aware of?
I can't find any solutions on google, which help me, which is why i'm posting it here. Sorry for the long post.
Did anyone experience such an error and/or knows what else i could try to fix this? I hope for answers
Thanks in advance!
Anyone?
I've got the same problem.
I didn't unlock the bootloader or anything prior to getting the bug.
I wanted to downgrade to nougat, because aparently it helped someone in the forum below, but I didn't manage to do it.
https:// de.ifixit. com/Antworten/Ansehen/468864/Sim+Card+not+picking+up+mobile+network.+Possible+software+issue+(Oreo)
Did you try nougat, when flashing different firmwares?
Your post makes me question if its worth it, trying to downgrade.
Try to remove sd card if you have one. then restart the phone and see if sim card is recognized.
I had the same problem and I think it was a hardware failure in the end.
I also tried almost all the things you were writing above. In my phone it started slowly. Sometimes the SIM was detected but after some time the connection was lost.
It happened some time after I installed a new battery.
But since there are no original batteries available for the device anymore and the new battery was even worse than the 5 year old original battery, I gave up investigating the SIM issue and don't use the phone any longer.
I bought a new (used) x compact because I still like the size and I saw some development was going on for this device.
In the end I cannot tell whether the SIM was not detected because I broke something while changing the battery or due to age of the phone but I think it was a "normal" failure.
I also read from others that they had the problem and the SIM was working for some time after I switched the battery before it stopped working.
Nevertheless. Good Luck to you. Maybe it is something different on your phone.
