Hi there, I have an aussie galaxy note 3, and it came with a series of quirks that are really annoying me
First, the touchwiz launcher - you cannot edit the bottom row of icons in the dock, they are fixed.
The camera - The autofocus and camera shutter are ridiculously loud and cannot be shut off
The gallery - There is no auto rotate, to rotate to landscape, you must put your phone in landscape mode and then click on an icon to rotate.
Could someone please upload the above apks from their non aussie device? This means I could install them over the top of my existing ones?
Or is there an easier way of doing this? I tried deleting all the sound files in system/media/ui (everything like camerashutter.ogg) and still no success.

You're going to need root to install any of the above apk's or to edit/delete the camera shutter.

Thanks for this, sorry for the stupid question but I need help isntalling them - I have root.
I have deleted the old apks but when I try and install yours it fails. How do I install it with root?

You may need to push them to /system/app via adb. Additionally, you might just need to resign them. Sorry I didn't test it beforehand. I just pulled them straight off my N3. I can try it once I get home from work later tonight.

I moved those apks to system/apps
Changed permissions
Still failing.
Use root explorer and drop them in /system/app folder. Fix permissions, and reboot. No need to sign system apps.

Fyi. Don't delete old apk's until you are sure the new ones work. For example, rename systemuiapk to systemui.apk.bak

Thats what I did, maybe the apks the guy uploaded were bad. - I deleted the old apks after making backups with titanium so no issue
A guy on whirlpool said he just flashed another regions firmware, and that let him silence the camera and modify the bar at the bottom.
I don't have mine yet so can't test...
Does anyone know if that would mean the region locking would suddenly apply if i did that?
(Australian models don't have region locking...)

I dunno what to tell you. The apks were pulled straight from my phone which is running this rom
If your phone is N9005 then you did a huge mistake ..

You got it all wrong guys. Changing the apks won't do sh*t.
You need to remove a few of lines in your others.xml relating to this. I am on Aussie firmware and have done it already.
Search system/csc/others.xml and open with text editor in Root Explorer. I am in a rush now but if you can't locate the lines to remove I will find later for you.
Once deleted save & exit then reboot.
Done and enjoy
Just intalled omega rom, so don't worry about it. May as well post it for others.

if u r rooted, try out "Note 2 Hidden Settings" and "Wanam Xposed" both from play store. many configurations to play with.
not too sure about the fixed icons though.
I was removing some bloat after rooting, and everything I removed seems fine except one thing. Whenever I get an email, and pull down the notification bar and click on it directly, my email app force closes(using stock google app). If I go to the email app itself and then view the email, it's fine. Does anyone have any idea what the apk I removed that could have caused this,and if so does anyone have a backup they can upload, thanks!!

Do you happen to have the apk, or know where I can get it?
I downloaded the magazineapp, that didn't seem to fix it, I think I'll just re install the original EMAIL client APK, does anyone out there have that or a link to it?
This is driving me crazy, text message notifications don't seem to bother it, and I can set my emails to not notify in the notifaction bar and then they work perfectly when I go to open them. But if I set them to show in notification bar(which i need for my work exchange server) it says sorry, email has closed. Even if I don't pull look at the notification, and go directly to the email, it closes on the first try, the second time is fine

Have you tried booting into the stock recovery and clearing cache?

I'm having the same issue. Using stock email app, connected to exchange 2007 server and keep getting weird force closes when opening items from the notification window. I've been going through unfreezing apps 1 by 1 but so far no joy.

This seems to have fixed it for me... There are 2 magazine apps and I unfroze both. "My Magazine 1.0.0" & "My Magazine - Here and now 1.1.0"

Use a file explorer and drop the apk in the system/app folder and change permissions to match other files in that folder.

After getting FC with Exchange account after freezing a variety of apps in TiBu (generally the same ones frozen on my VZW S4), I've had to go back to defrosting everything, and only "Turn off" via application manger. I could never quite figure out which one(s) were causing it, but Exchange wanted the magazine app, Ant, and other what would seem entirely unrelated apps to be enabled. As much as I hate crap running that I neither use or want, the Note 3 has so much RAM and horsepower that it really doesn't seem to matter.

Did you have the Magazine app frozen. That is one of the few apps that I ran into that caused Exchange to FC.

Do you have the same problem?
I received I9505XXUEMJ5 OTA and first thing I noticed after installing is "Transition animation scale" (in Dev options) setting has been restored to "1x" (even though I had it previously disabled). I thought this is one time upgrade quirk so I set it back to "off".
Problem is that it keeps resetting back to "1x" after i start Camera app.
Try on your own: Disable this setting, start e.g. "Contacts" app - you will see animation is disabled. Now close "Contacts" and start "Camera". Close camera and start "Contacts" - transition animation will be there and setting will reset to 1x in Dev options.
Anybody knows how to get rid of those animations permanently?
It happened the reverse for me. I WANT transitions and it kept disabling it. I've put developer options off now and its fine.

Hmm - i see you are not using the same phone and I'm not sure if you have the same software version (surely not - as it is different phone).
If i disable Dev options - I get all these transitions back (and i really don't like them).

I have 4.3 MJ5 (Not updated to the latest MJ8 yet, you know the OTA limit and Kies crash)
got the same problem with MJ5 and MJ8 , so disapponting
Only solution is install another camera app (4.3), the problem is lose all the features in stock app s4. But is a valid solution

Thanks for confirming this Braulio00. For some reason (OCD maybe) - I find this very annoying. I tried to speed up this transition but even if you change this to 0.5x - it changes back to 1.0x

Yes I know, it's horrible! I used the câmara app 4.3 for now to avoid this, is very very annoying for me because I don't like any transition, x0.5 it's fine, but x1.0 it's a lot for me.

I cant believe Samsung didnt fix it in MJ8 update, when it came out I thought its mainly for that, I think its the most annoying and apparent bug in the 4.3 update

I've found out that it's the camera apk that enables back to 1x the transition animation scale.

It's a known bug, if you search you see that was been found. Mj8 and mj9 released after don't fix this bug.

Newer 4.3 firmwares (like the MK8) fixed that.

You can avoid this by not using camera or keep the transition effects 1X
In Crash ROM MK1,if I close camera by kill it.The animation will automatically change to "None",but if you close it normally,you won't have this problem.

Yes development option is there...but better check with the owners of the module.

Yes I also tried this, I did it from a diffent link but the launcher actually runs off the Google search app so it should be the same experience and its great, only thing I don't like is the fact that when I hold down apps to move them on the home screen when in landscape the tablet flips orientation and it is annoying. Everything works in portrait though.

I have a solution for that ,
When you open app in landscape mode , touch the navigation buttons button then pull down the notification bar and lock the auto rotation, it should be stop rotating.

Thanks, I've already paid for that app and while nice, I still prefer the stock app switcher button. The aosp rom would've been best, I'd even take CM if we ever get either of those working well.
New to all of this custom rom and rooting stuff so please excuse me if some of my questions aren't good.
Do I need to root and use a rom slot to run this or can I just use it as a launcher and still get widgets/wallpapers to work?

Yes you have to have root permissions ,rom slot -custom rom installed- , otherwise dont use any other mods you have possibility of bricking your device.

This is because HDX has a "reverse orientation" compared to most tablets. So what happened is the app rotate to what was "normal" landscape, then autorotate 180 to proper landscape.
There's a patched launcher that implements the reverse orientation that's a part of the HDX Gapps V2 (forgot which topic) but I have a feeling that this may need to be an Xposed module that "patch" the launcher itself.
hey just got the fire hdx and rooted it got super su installed and installed safestrap but im getting a blank screen when trying to attempt to load another patrition and backup the stock one. can anyone point me in the right direction googles failing me.

Make a new thread for the sake of being on-topic as well as better visibility.
I like the phone, but the 16gb causes a lot of concern. After downloading my music from Amazon, it's almost gone.
I can't find an option to put music from Amazon on my sd card, is that hte new kit kat "feature"?
Also, the test message preview on my lock screen only says "New Message", ther eused to be an option that gave me a preview of the actual message..is it gone?
On the Note 3, it had a setting where screenshots would enter auto edit mode, came in real handy for me. S5 doesn't seem to have this?
When I disabled my magazine, my home screen transitions isn't continuous ..I know I seen the s5 do this in review videos.
Did you root your phone yet with Towelroot? If so go to play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix and install this to get read/write to your sd card. The other stuff I can't help you with. Sorry.

Before you root you may want to look into fix for SHealth and ISIS Wallet (if you use it). You have to stop SHealth and Health Services in app manager and clear data and cache before you installed Xposed. You may even have to uninstall their updates if I remember as well.
Install xposed and it's service , then update Shealth and it should work fine. Once you get that done install ISIS Root Bypass 3.0 module for xposed and check it in modules and reboot and the Wallet will work fine after that.
These were two things that I use often and really had to get working to be happy with root.

Why put off until tomorrow, what you could do today, and prevent yourself from being screwed by VZW when they push 4.4.3 soon, and Root may not work with it?
In the text messaging app you'll see a setting to display the message on the lockscreen instead of new message.
Plug your phone into the computer and drag and drop the music to the SD or use root explorer to move it there.. You don't need root to do this.
No, the S5 cannot auto enter edit mode as far as I know, maybe clear defaults of gallery and set images to auto open in an editor?
As far as continuous transitions just use apex or Nova.

It's under Settings -> Notifications -> and at the bottom you will see check boxes for Lock Screen and Status Bar

How did you "disable" My Magazine exactly? I was able to long press home screen, choose Home screen settings, and uncheck My Magazine. This allowed me to scroll continuously or not.

I unchecked it via longpress homescreen. I don't have an option anywhere (that I can find) for continuous scroll

Oh gosh, well that is a problem then. I'll definitely keep my eyes open for a solution. You should let us know if you find one. I'm curious now.

You'll have to edit a file using Root Explorer then if you disable My Magazine you'll have endless home screen scrolling. I use Nova launcher which already has the option in settings. If you definitely have to have the stock launcher and you can't get infinite scrolling to work let me know I'll tell you which file to edit.

I wouldn't have to modify the build prop to get S health to work with xposed?
