Hello. I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's phone but I'm having some issues. Let me explain.
Out of the sudden, the phone shuts down and wont open. After she handles me the phone. I try to enter in recovery mode but without success. I tried all the possible combinations, but it got stuck at blue message "Recovery booting".
I can get into download mode. I tried to flash different stock ROM's (UK/ROU) but Odin gets stuck at system.img.ext4 in different phases. (30% 45% 35% etc, not a pattern). I tried different USB cables, different Odin versions, different PC's and 5 USB ports. The phone was not rooted and has no warranty. Now when I try to power on, I get the Kies error to upgrade the firmware (Kies doesn't recognise).
Is there any way solve this?
Thanks and sorry for my english.

Sounds more like you got hardware failure. Even if it was software you should still be able to boot up into the recovery. Better send it to a service center.

I too have a focus that is stuck in a loop at the Samsung logo. I bought it like that thinking I might be able to resurrect it as another toy. I have had lots of experience with Samsung, HTC and Sony droid phones, this would be the first WP.
It is a I917R on Rogers, there is no hardware revision under battery. I am assuming it is V1.3 as I have only seen software for the that version posted. I do not know how the phone got to its present state. They just said it happened during normal use?
I can get to both download mode and factory reset. I have flashed the stock rogers files without errors, but I never get the screen connecting to pc. The phone just restarts after successfully flashing, only to reboot continuously. I have been able to install MAGLDR and flashed every v1.3 ROM i could download. All without errors, just the same outcome they all just keep displaying Samung logo and then reboot. Only thing I noticed is that when I flash MAGLDR and custom ROMs it takes the phone longer to reboot.
I never get the connect to pc if I hold camera and power, nor do I ever get that screen when I flash a ROM.
Not sure if situation is similar... I am puzzled?
Your situation is very similar with other folks' here, unfortunately. It's not clear what causes it and there's no solution as of yet. For some, re-flashing worked. For others, a new battery. Most are stuck on loop...
When you connect the phone to USB when in download mode, what do you get?
When I boot to download mode I can flash Rom with WP7. I get to the yellow triangle download mode and flashes ok, no errors. Just noticed that it never goes to connect to pc mode.
Same with when I format, no connect to pc mode.
Nothing I try seems to help.

I see. What messages do you get when you connect the phone to the PC via USB, in either mode?
No messages, just shows up as Samsung USB composite device, Samsung mobile modem and Samsung mobile modem diagnostic serial port in download mode.
In magldr it shows up add Microsoft USB sync.
The only thing I forgot to mention was that when I flash with WP7 it finished without error in 90 seconds, but on the phone it says it will take 10 minutes.
Not sure what more I can add...
You could try different downloaders. Please see this thread for 7.41 downloader, maybe that helps?
Tried both, same outcome... No errors, just keeps rebooting... No Connect to PC message.
Im having the same problem. And i can see many other people who are having the same issue also. So i think its time to dump those phones, not worth a penny. The one i have in here was actually working, i followed all the directions in order to flash it. And still the phone got stuck into that bootloop. Its ridiculous from what i can see. I think ive read once you put that SDmini in it the phone will use it for the OS. But the one i had was working actually without it, i could turn it off as many times as i wanted and nothing happened. But if i tried a factory reset data would stay and diagnosis mode wasnt working. So i decided to flash it. Big, huge mistake! Hope you have better luck than i did. Because im dumping this one....
Same problem here, ive checked a couple of threads and no solution so far
Hi guys,
I can't update to Android 4.3. When I download the update via OTA and reboot the phone to install it, I always get an error at exactly 26% while installing it. Of course after that I get a notification that I should try with Kies, which in my case hasn't worked even once in a thousand tries (except sometimes with wi-fi, but it's useless since I can't update the firmware). I don't even remember how many times I deleted and installed the drivers all over again. I've tried updating via the Recovery boot, no luck. I tried 100 times with Odin and different versions of it, no luck with that either. It just won't start or I get the message <ID:0/009> Complete(Write) operation failed. I even ran at as administrator and deactivated my antivirus and Kies while I was trying. I downloaded the firmware twice from sammobile just to be sure it wasn't corrupted. I've tried with different ports - nothing. Also with 32 and 64 bit Windows 7 - nada. I don't know what else to try.

OTA gives a lot of failures. You need to install it by Odin:
1. Here is your new 4.3 Rom. Download it and unzip/unrar it (first listed rom, you must register): http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9505&pcode=MBM#firmware
2. Install kies 3 to be sure latest drivers are installed.
3. Download odin 3.09 (don't use prior versions even you had read it works)
4. If you have a diferent usb cable from stock white data cable, better use it.
5. With the phone off, push pwr+home+vol down for some seconds to enter in odin mode, then push vol up to confirm.
6. Open odin, put in AP box the unziped rom (.tar.md5)
Connect the data cable and you will see odin recognizes it.
7. Flash the rom (start button). Don't touch anything till it restarts.

Thanks for the replies guys!
It won't start. I did everything, over and over again.
Try to change the usb port.
I found out that if you turn on Kies while Odin is up you can jump-start it ....now every now and then I have to turn on - turn off Kies so Odin can continue xD
It got stuck at the system file... I don't know what's the matter but the only time something happens in Odin is when the loading screen from kies shows up...right before kies starts.
Damn... Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again. And Kies is not connecting :/

Don't start kies! I wrote just to install version 3 so that to be sure to install last s4 drivers. Don't execute kies!
Did you followed my advice on step 4 (use a different data cable). Also, if you have a desktop, use rear usb ports instead of front usb port.

I tried everything and every single instruction I have found. The only way something moves in Odin and my phone is during the loading screen for Kies. When Kies opens nothing happens. I have to turn on and off Kies over and over again so I can get some progress. When I open Kies there are three things that show up in Task Manager (besides Kies). Only the dllhost.exe - COM Surrogate appears only briefly and disappears when Kies is open. I think some of these tasks have something to do with my problem. Either they are allowing or stopping something for a moment to get through to Odin.

I see on first screen odin works fine without opening kies... Why are you opening kies? If you have kies open while using odin, it will necessary fail.
Otherwise, if you are saying odin only work while opening kies, you must change the process to a different pc, and also it would better to use a different data cable.

These screens are after two hours of turning on and off Kies. I just wanted to show you how I get progress in Odin. Anyway, I gave up this morning after spending way too many hours on this. I tried everything. I tried every single port on my PC, different data cable, re-installing Kies and the drivers, restarts, different PCs, different OS, different versions of Odin and I don't know what else. I just had enough. I went few hours ago to the T-Mobile store and gave the phone for service, since I still have the warranty they will probably fix it. We'll see in about 10 days.

Guys I was willing to flash CF Auto Root on my i9505, but It stucks at PIT Mapping, in download mode when process gets started there's another entry appeares below "emmc burst mode enabled" which is Start 224, 1440, now my phone is stucked to i9505 logo, and even trying to flash newest firmware gets stucked in PIT file Mapping, I can't do any thing to my phone, only it's able to reach to download mode, and nothing else, it doesn't boot to recovery either, everything gets stuck to PIT Mapping, my note 2 running well on same computer

I'd tried your suggested option no.1, 2, with USB cable I will find that, but my Note 2 is still working perfectly with what I have, I thought Odin supported version maybe different for different devices, so I changed among 3.04, 3.07 & 3.09 I'll see about the cable

Hi, first time here so sorry if in wrong place.
so my s4 has gone into a boot loop, it wont get past the first samsung screen before rebooting.
things i have tried; going into safe mode, no luck.
going into recovery mode, no luck
trying, to wipe it by holding down volume up, home and power, still nothing.
the screen will sometimes artifact whilst stuck in the boot loop.
so i looked into trying to use odin to flash the phone back to stock, as im using lollipop. odin won't even recognise my phone.
the phone is no longer under warranty.
Bump
For Odin to recognise your phone you need to boot into download mode. You also need the samsung drivers installed.
Also try different usb ports and cables.

in the vol.up+power to get to recovery. i have 3 lines
its stuck on this.
top blue: recovery booting....
middle red; recovery is not seandroid enforcing
bottom yellow; set warranty bit : recovery
I suggest you flash a stock rom and go from there.
my phone isn't allowing me to flash a rom http://imgur.com/Lkkmqyz
ok, so i talked to samsung support, looks like the mainboard is moslty likely the culprit and they said it will need replacing $250...
funeral service for my phone will be held at 1pm gmt +10.30
thanks for your help though.
Buying an S4 with a broken screen and switching the motherboards would be cheaper.
Recovery is not Seandroid Enforcing Odin isn’t detecting my phone, any suggestions?
I successfully rooted my phone and was trying to install the exposed framework and i guess downloaded the wrong one. When i flashed it i ended up getting into boot loop. I am on N910F with the 2 Network.
I have tried factory resetting with the caches but to no avail. The only other option i found was Odin, the problem is Odin is not detecting my phone when in recovery mode but seems to have no problem coming blue when starting up giving the 3 logo startup which just goes when it start looping again. I have tried 2 computers, a different cable although old and all my USB ports and the same thing keeps happening. I have already reinstalled Samsung USB Drivers times. I am wondering if they are any others.
Please Help

Are you connecting phone to Odin in Recovery mode or you mean to say download mode. You should put phone in download mode For connecting to Odin.

Thank you,
I just figured that out from some genius from Reddit Not 4 Thread. I guess the guy in the YouTube tutorial accidentally said "hold volume up" and so did everyone else I happened to come across which ended up wasting me a lot of time.
That was so lucky, because I really would have done some crazy stuff I didn't know about.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Maybe I should contact the guy from YouTube to add an annotation or something.

Yes it was, the problem was I was given a bad tutorial and told to hold "volume up" to go into TWRP recovery instead of "Volume Down" into downloader.
Everything is working great now and my phone is working again.
