So I followed the availble tutorial, which is written by an S7 owner called "MoDaCo".
https://bgr.com/2016/03/11/galaxy-s7-edge-tips-microsd-adoptable-storage/
- I had a normal "179:32" or something like that IDs.
- The command in the tutorial:
Code:
sm partition disk:179:160 private
did not work.
- I had to use:
Code:
sm partition disk:179,160 private
After this I had a unified storage, but I had "128gb" of storage.
I did not try to fill up my phone then, but I tried to use Spotify and it said "cannot find storage device".
So my question is: Is it possible to fix this somehow?
I have a Class 10/UHS-1 card, Kingston, 32gb.
It should be fast enough.

This trick is known to not to work with several apps like spotify, but other than that it works fine.
ps i the haven't tasted marshmallow yet.
Oh wow. Spotify would have been like the most important app, because it always places the data folder to the wrong location.
Anyhow, if apps need to be updated to use this new merged storage, then people will have to wait like two more years until every app gets fixed.
I watched the video with s7, the procedure did not yet, although it seems simple. But I do not understand why you include storage 128g if you have an SD of 32 g. Any number should be changed?
Your note 4 is 32 g storage? or you have more space?

It shows 128gb storage on top as overall.
First the new setup was all messed up.
Tapped SD, pressed "Move Data".
Then - the top was still showing 128gb, but tapping the SD showed me the correct numbers.

Tried to find the said Sprint thread, but no luck.
Could you link it to me?
I am willing to test any tutorials, since I already formatted my SD card, and I have a second device that I can use while I fix up my Note.

Hello,
I've done a big search to solve this issue, but none that helped. I just bought a Note 3 32GB version Verizon, and I rooted it immediately and added Jelly Beans Build 4. I've barely put anything into internal memory. I look at the Storage and it says I have 29GB used up as Miscellaneous Files. (To which I clicked on and it at most lists 50mb of miscellaneous files) I then used DiskUsage and scanned and saw that my internal SD card only has 2493 MB of storage total. There's some type of issue with it that doesn't allow me to use up all of my 32 GB of internal memory. Could it be the root or rom preventing it?
How do I fix this?
Now that I think about it deeper. I did use Safestrap to root it and I had to create my own partition. Could it be the fact that I just created the partition with the default settings (as in the amount of memory used)? Should I have raised this to 32gb? I think Default was 2.5GB.
To further try to solve this issue, is there a way to increase the amount of data allocated to this partition? Or is there a way to copy everything in this partition to a new one that I would create at 32GB? I would rather not have to restart and redownload everything again, etc.

Your problem seems to be that you need to read a little more - you are not in the correct forum, this is NOT the Verizon Note 3 forum!
Oh I'm sorry, I Thought this was a general Note 3 forum. And I thought this would be a general Note 3 issue, but I guess it seems to be a rooted and ROM issue.
Your search failed you. Put the rom in the stock slot and your memory readings will be correct. Otherwise, ignore them.

Safestrap does not show your free space correctly, it has to do with the way Safestrap creates its partitions. If you use a file browser or switch to your stock ROM you will be able to see the correct amount of space. If you want to maximize your free space and if you want everything to show correctly the only way to do it is to flash the ROM to your STOCK slot. There have been numerous posts about this and I advise you search a little more. Anyways, it isn't anything abnormal and it's perfectly fine. Not something to worry about.
I just got the x pure with tax money and I want to root and ROM it I've read all the directions but my questions are a little deeper than that I think. I got the 16gb version cause I knew 6.0 and adoptable storage and I got a 64 GB card. So one of my questions is since I used adoptable storage once I download my ROM on device when I wipe the device before I flash, is my ROM data gonna be gone after the wipe or is there a safe place to put it so it doesn't get wiped? My next question is are any ROMs that uses 6.0 adoptable storage so i can get the same use ability out of my SD card, or is that built in to the Android code and always there on 6.0 so it wouldn't matter? Thanks for the help and if this is in the wrong place I'm sorry I know y'all could help me out the most. And any ROM suggestions that keep the moto voice and actions???
1. Wrong forum to post this. Please go to q&a sub forum.
2. When you use adoptable storage you will have 16+64 gb storage on your device
3. Adoptable storage is a beta feature, so expect bugs, with flashing other roms.
4. In that case use you sd card as adoptable storage.

In the future, it's easier for us if you omit #1 (#'s 2,3,4 were great answers) and simply hit the report post button to notify us to move it. Sometimes (especially on mobile apps like tapatalk) posts/threads land somewhere other than intended.

I found it better to use the external SD as portable storage when flashing ROMs because when I switched ROMs I had to format the card every time. Otherwise it would show up as unreadable after the ROM switch. If you plan on staying on the same ROM then you might get away with adoptable. I had a 16GB model too and didn't have a issue with storage space with it as portable. Just save your music and pics to the card.

No problem. Now if I quoted the right post it would have been better.... I did end up selling my 16GB and picking up a 64GB but for me it's kind of a waste because I put everything on my external card. I really didn't benefit anything other than a lighter wallet

Yeah my issue with the 16 GB is I have big games so I fill up internal memory fast but everything else goes on my card
So I shouldn't use adoptable storage before I flash a ROM just after it if I plan on staying on that ROM right?
I want to use the feature that allows the SD card to be used as Internal storage rather than Portable storage. When I go to Settings-Storage there are no 3 bar, "settings" to allow me to chose to change my current SD card to act as Internal storage. It only Identifies it as Portable storage. It does the same thing when I put in a new SD card. I have a second Galaxy S5 that does exactly the same time so it would appear that the Verizon S5 doesn't support that feature of Marshmallow. Any suggestions?

Samsung removed Adopted Storage because they were too lazy to make it work.
The trick to make it work on the S7 does work on the S5.
http://www.modaco.com/news/android/...e-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/
Instead of the : separator I had to use , as the separator to match what I saw in the responses to adb commands.
use the same character you see between the disk numbers after you execute the "sm list-disks" command.
Adoptable Storage Hack Not Working
My son and I each have a 16GB Samsung Galaxy S5, and have followed the procedure listed in Paul O'Brien's article for the S7. Neither of us saw any errors, but it is apparent that the S5 is not using the newly-prepared SD card. My son was getting low memory warnings, which prompted him to try this out. The problem is that he is still getting the warnings after setting up a fast 32GB SD card. Has anyone had the same experience? Has anyone solved the problem?

make sure you have the latest version of adb installed before executing commands. data ratio is done with this , instead of this :

To be clear before I try this (sorry if this is a stupid question), would you replace both : with , ?
Like this: 'sm partition disk,179,160 private'
OR just the : in the ratio itself
Like: 'sm partition disk:179,160 private'
Thanks!

I was having the same issue. Then, in the comments of the linked article I found the following step, which worked for me:
After following the steps to set it to private: Settings > Storage > SD card > More. Migrate your data
That seemed to do the trick for me. It now shows tons of storage even when plugged into my PC. So far so good. I'll report back if I run into any issues with it.
Worked for me

Followed all the steps for my GS5. I thought it was a dud at first, until I realized that I forgot to replace the : with a komma. Worked like a charm! Verizon be damned! Good luck.
My app downloads are still being saved to the phone internal storage, not the adopted storage on the SD card. Shouldn't have to migrate data do SD if S5 supports adoptable storage. Anyone know a workaround or a solution. Thanks.
After following all of the steps with ADB, it seems like I'm successful, but when I reboot, my new, formatted, working SD card (Lexar MicroSDHC 633x 32GB) comes up as corrupt. Any ideas?
(I tried using Root essentials too -tried both methods 4 or 5 times... but no dice)
For those of you that got adoptable storage working - what ROM are you on. I'm trying to figure out if Touchwiz is what's blocking it for me - do you have to be on a CM13 build?
@Nova5 ? @[email protected] ? @kuyankee ? @Mortis13 ?
Thanks!
To make it work on the s5 you need adb, connect the phone by USB and issue the commands through adb on the desktop. Samsung hid the option from the gui.

@Nova5 - thanks. But as I mentioned in the previous post, I've tried it on adb on the desktop. Looks/acts like it works, but when I reboot, the SD card shows up as corrupted. Everything I've read seems like it SHOULD be able to work, but I'm running into a dead end with every tip I get.
Have you done it and gotten it to work? What ROM are you on? What SD card are you using?
(Those are the only variables I can think of that would be causing me a problem.)
Im running my stock rom, non-rooted VZW S5 with it, used the ADB commands, many reboots. No problems. You do have to ignore the bizarre memory count in the Storage settings. When Samsung removed the UI for Adoptable, they also prevented it from properly calculating it. It works, but it just counts wrong. I used a 128Gig Silicon Power Ultra1 class card. Did a 25/75 split so that I have a decent sized user accessible space.
"sm partition disk:179,160 mixed 25"
Was the command I used (change numbers to match your discovered disk numbers) the 25 is what percentage you want to give to adopted internal memory.
Running fine and has been since I posted on June 3rd. Start with a totally blank card, no partitions at all. get into developer settings, enable USB debugging, use ADB, connect, issue command. Wait while it processes. Sometimes its seconds, sometimes minutes. If you're using a custom rom, that could be the problem. Samsung half crippled it, but it still works
Is link2sd still not working with marshmallow? Not being affable to really move apps to the adoptable storage was really killing me, had to downgrade to 5.0

If the phone is rooted, I believe there is an app that you can install that will set it up for you. Otherwise you have to enter some commands using ADB shell.
I used this guide to get mine going. Don't forget to migrate data when you are done!

hi,
I am on a rooted 900w s5 and I'm trying to move apps to the system partition. Mainly, Im trying to move viper to stop it from turning off and on constantly when installed as user. When I try to do this and reboot, the app disappears. Only flashing the app from recovery works but then i get issues with the convolver in viper not working. Permissions are all set correctly too.
Any solutions?
Thanks
Hi!
I 've used Link2SD to do what you want.
I had done this manually in LP , but something changed in MM. I haven't found out the difference because I've used Link2SD and it is easier
Not working for me. Nothing seems to be working
The only way to install apps on system its using a zip file and flashing it from recovery to add those apps on system dir
if you are on Marshmellow, DONT EVEN THINK OF LINK2SD!!!!! _ (it will mess your internal & external Storage. yu'll need to flush stock os again).
the changes between MM & LP are mainly to the Storage Permissions.
Samsung disabled the option to move or link apps and their DATA to EXTERNAL!!!!
THOUGH..... there is an AWESOME App Called: "ROOT ESSENTIALS"
this is how you do it: (in case your premissions is not messed up)
in "root essentials" choose the storage tab and then format your Ext' SD as "Internal Storage". This way you will have all your storage as Internal (up to 256GB)
you can also choose how much % you want to allocate from your Ext' SD to be Internal, And how much leave as External.
-
This is the Only Good Solution I found on S5 6.0
p.s.
I just formatted all as INTERNAL and now my phone have 140GB as Internal (everything is handled as admin!!!)

How is that any different than what marshmallow can already do? Unless you can actually access the sd card when taking it out, it's the exact same.

Thanks for this but I dunno if this will solve my problem. My problem is mainly with viper4android crashing and staring up again (turning off and on) while listening to music. It happens when I install it as a user app which I have to do to get the convolver and field surround to work. To get it to stop crashing I moved the app to /system/priv-app and rebooted. I can't do that on my s5 MM. When I reboot the app disappears. LOL
I'll try your method and see if it works.

its not perfect but, if you do 50% as internal and 50% as External.... you will be able to access those 50% external from any machine (will req' a fat sd to enjoy space)
or
Downgrade from Marshmallow.

Hi
I Can tell what I did.
First data: I have a S5 900H Dualcore. Marshmallow 6.0.1 and it was impossible to mount the second partition using Link2SD I always got an error. So as described in this forum. I downloaded from Play Store the APK Root Essentials, and chosed the tab Adopted or Emulated Memory (I have this APP in spanish and I do not know how is displayed in english) a new window appears indicating taht the SD will be formated, I accepted it, the APP began the process and ask me to download from Play store a plugin to continue the process.
Downloaded the plugin directly in my cell, I flashed it (the plugin is in zip format, my cell is root and has Teamwin recovery) the cell reboot automaticaly and again I opened the Root Essentials, thats all. Whit this same APP you now may choose to move your APPs to the SD card.
Opening the system to see how is my phone now I found that Memory is 49.73 GB used to a total of 64GB (I do not know why those numbers because my Cell has 16GB internak and other 16GB External SD maybe some one may explain this) Anyway it is saying my cell memory has now 64 GB
Internal Memory 16 GB--External SD 16 GB. You cannot find that your internal memory is bigger than before because those ar the phisycally configuration BUT now your phone added the Extrnaal SD to the Internal Memory and works like a unique one.
There is another method you may try and it is using Xposed Apk, it has a module that make the same and links the ext SD with the internal memory. I saw that it works well. I cannot try it because I never could install Xposed App in this cell I alway got an error.
Hope this may help you. Regards!
Thnak you.
So i did not flush the plugin.
How did you flush it please?
Using odin or recovery mode? (and what did you choose? Update?)
Thank you
Does anyone actually have a solution to my issue?

Your first post in this thread says "This is the Only Good Solution I found on S5 6.0.1."
Look I don't care either way really. I have other things to worry about...

so, you really got me motivated to sort this out. (not about our dear thread opener though i hope he'll fin the answer, but regarding the sd as internal).
i did not quite on Root Essentials and investigated some more. happy to say i found a solution for S5 G900F, Android arshmallow 6.0.1.
this is what i did:
1. Root The Device
2. Install Root Essentials
*note*: there is a plugin file that we need to flush using RootEssentilas, but we will be asked to do so only after : Adopting, and the Revertring. (on reverting we'll be asked to flush the plugin). So....
3. Adopt the Sd. (Adopt the whole 100%)
4. you will be asked to Reboot, so do so
5. after rebbot, go to "Adopt SD" tab again, AND NOW "REVERT" the Process.
* Now you will be Given Ifo To Download the Plugin and Flush it USING ROOT ESSENTIALS FLASHER TAB!
(you would be also asked to Backup System and such, I DID IT maybe 10 Times But NEVER BACKED UP ANYTHING! so IMO, you can skip the backup).
6. Download the PlugIn
7. In RootEssentilas goto "TOOLS" tab and then the "FLASHER" tab, Click "Flash Zip File" and then choose the Downloaded File to flush it.!
8. After Flashing the Plugin Restart your Device
9. NOW ADOPT the SD _ (i have 64gb, I choose 50% so ill be able to connect my phone to Pc and Still Get the other 50% to move Files from Pc to Phone)
***IMPORTANR*** _ YOUR PC WILL NEVER LOAD THE ADOPTED SD!!!! (so if you did 100% from 64GB you will see Only the Real Phisical Phone Storage, on S5 its either 16GB or 32GB)
SO Choose 50% !
10. After Adopting the SD, goto "STORAGE" tab on RootEssentilas , And then goto "APP INSTALL LOCATION" and Choose INSTALL ON SD!! (SAVE)
11. Now install all your games and favorite apps (regullary!)
*****************************************
Now come the important Step
******************************************
12. in RootEssentilas goto "ADOPTABLE STORAGE" tab and then goto "MIGRATE DATA" tab. Click on Migrate Data,
Now pay Atention:
CHOOSE THE SD CARD That Was ADOPTED!!! _ (if you did 50%, the you will have 2 Sd Crads, one as Portable, And second wil be Writen As Oly "SD Card" Which is the Adopted AS Internal, So choose IT)!
after choosing the Adopted SD, Look On the Upper Right For the Three Dots of the Settings, clikc them for Settings and choose "MIGRATE DATA".
Let the Device to its trick, it will move anything it can.
you will see that your Orginal Internal Storage has more free space then Before the Migrate, And that the ADoptabe Storage Is getting Filled!.
thats it my Friends.
Hope This Help Someone.
if ill Do it again, Ill Make sure to Video it.
Specials Thanks for those Hard Core, Digging Friends that gave the the motivation to keep on.
thnka you.

CORRECTED. I Unistalled the adopted memory because I did not like the readings I get. I reinstalled it and now I am getting the correct reading 49.76 GB in use a total of 64GB. The problem I am encountering now is that sometimes the cell reboots.

I got this installed and mostly working I think. Device storage says Internal Storage is 16GB and SD Card is 64GB (I assigned that). Then the portable storage is 120GB from the rest of my 200GB SD. So it's working, though the SD Card in Device Storage is barely full and internal storage is almost full!
Hello all,
I have been using Galaxy note 3 for the last 3 years or so, have rooted it, installed AOSP and stock ROMs (including the latest Note 7 ports) on it. So I have a fair understanding of how the phone works, and am able to work with errors on a very comfortable basis (sometimes, with help from other XDA members as well).
Now, here's where I am stuck. I was running a Note 7 port ROMs (Phronesis and Magma-NX), and also ran an AOSP ROM. Since last week, my phone has not been able to recognize my SD Card (I have two cards: one, a 32gb card, and the other a 128gb card) on either of the stock or AOSP ROMs. It says: Corrupted. So I begin to format the card (both of them) on the phone itself, and I keep getting this message when I try to format my SD Card via phone:
thread binder_7 gave up waiting for partitionPublic after 180000ms
The SD Cards format properly on my laptop. The end result is my phone doesn't recognize any memory cards, and I basically end up working with the internal storage of 32gb. I havent encountered this error before, and I have no clue about what to do. I have tried googling it, and Google gives me a result for partitionPrivate and not partitionPublic. I dont know if these are the same things or not, and in either case, I absolutely dont know
what to do.
Can anyone suggest/guide as to what should I do?
I had an issue where my phone wouldn't see an SD card unless it was given a name when attached to a PC, might be nothing to do with it but could be worth a try?
Sent from my Power using XDA-Developers Legacy app

Sorry buddy, but didn't quite understand when you said" given it a name". How and what did you do to name your SD Card? I will definitely try anything to make it work
I have same problem and I never fix it. I follow so many guides from Google without luck, seems that my N3 decide to not read external memory any more.

Hey buddy, in that case, what did you do? Did you end up using a lot of cloud based storage on your note 3?

Yes, I use Google Photo app for my pictures and videos, Spotify 4 music, large files like Twrp and Titanium backups stored on external hard drive.

I guess that is probably working good for you; do you have your photos and videos setup to be directly posted on the Cloud then?
Definitely, you have various options how to upload directly, with mobile plans, only with WiFi, only on charge.
Awesome, thanks buddy.. Did you try to have someone look up the SD Card slot to see if it was damaged or if it needed a replacement?

Just to check, have you tried to convert your sd cards into internal storage (adoptable storage) before the problem occurs ?
@zlazaar I'm not sure bro.. All I did was just copied one app from my internal memory to the external SD Card. But I didn't jot try to convert Tele external SD into an internal memory.. Do you think that's what the issue is here?

Can you try this please :
- Format one of your sd cards using your PC (use this recommended tool)
- Make sure you choose FAT32 as file system before format
- Check if you got the correct total size of the formatted sd card
- Shutdown your phone, put your sdcard, boot directly to recovery
if the recovery is able to recognize the sd card with the correct total size, then you don't have a hardware failure.

When you connect it to a PC, when viewing My Computer as it used to be called, you can see all of the drives, C:, D: etc, on that screen if you right click above your SD card drive select rename, it should be under removable drives. A long shot but also an easy one so worth a punt.

I totally agree, sd card volume must have a name.
Thank you

@zlazaar Hey buddy, so I downloaded the SD Formatter, and did a quick format (should I have done full Format - if yes, which one - Erase or overwrite). I also tried the Format Size Adjustment ON and OFF.
I have 2 SD Cards, one 128gb and the other a 32gb. The SD Formatter formatted the 128gb card as an exFAT, and the it formatted the 32gb card as a FAT32. However, TWRP still didn't recognize either of the cards. I still dont have the cards running on the phone..
