If you are using an MHL adaptor that works with an S2, it won't work as the pin outs are different.

S3 mhl cable can only produces 1080/30p, go for S4 cable which is 1080/60p.

Incorrect, as the poster above mentions. S3 cable will be limited to MHL 1.0 spec output as given, S4 cable does MHL 2.0 spec output as given in the above post.
Hi all,
Do we have the ability to use a USB DAC with the g2? I'm considering the audioquest firefly and thought I'd ask. Is it kernel related?

I haven't tried the firefly, but the FIIO e 17 works perfectly on my LG g2.

No - which also surprised me. Works out of the box. You just need the special OTG cable. My Hegel HD 2 also works.
Bump.
Will Poweramp support it?
And How do you connect DAC to the Phone?

I haven't tried poweramp, but everything I have tried works with the USB Dac's I have tried. You need an OTG cable, that's all.
Does anyone know whether the s5 will support audio out the usb for use with an external dac/headphone amp? Many Thanks
100% yes

Great thanks! Would that be on the stock phone or would have to be rooted? Thanks again.

Well I'm pretty set on getting the S5 over the Z2 (which I know has usb audio out) so that's why that was what I wanted to hear. I also e-mailed Samsung asking pretty much the same as the op and the reply was basically "we don't know". I thought that someone would know the answer here

My answers was based on experience, all the flagship from S3 has the usb audio out. There is no reason not to include usb audio out as long as s5 has usb on the go capabilities. If you are not sure about that maybe you should wait a review but to me is 100%. I already preordeed S5 to use it with Fiio E17 external DAC/AMP. Take note that S5 has the same usb connector like Note3 but note 3 is backwards compatible with standard usb 2.0 on the go cables. And I used my fiio with note 3 without problems.

Just in case anybody was wondering. S5 USB Audio out works .. Hooray !
I haven't extensively tested how much better the audio sounds with USB vs directly from headphone.
My setup
S5 >> USB OTG Cable >> USB Cable to my hippo cricri Amp >> Headphones out.
In case you were wondering, s3 and s4 LTE+ didn't support that. The Note 3 did.

Edit: A list of standard USB DAC reportedly interworking with the Android-powered smartphone Samung Galaxy S5:
stock Samsung Galaxy S5 > digital USB audio out >> USB OTG cable (ID pin grounded) >> standard USB DAC >> amp >> headphones

hello to all
being that the mhl cable won't work on s7 edge does anybody knows if this would work before i buy one=

From my understanding mhl is not enabled in s7. Mirrorcasting should work though to stream video and audio.

I hate that it seems like current Android OS doesn't support MHL. This is one of the reason I kept my iPhone. Its a bad idea to have to use WIFI to stream a video and then have to use it to cast a video at the same time.
What are you looking to do?

Would the Samsung micro usb to hdmi adapter do the job?
Sent from my SM-G935T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
nope it is not supported on the edge 7 i still have my old one from the galaxy s5 no go
well the Belkin Miracast Video Adapter HDMI For Android or Windows came today works fine with my s7 edge and my dell laptop and tablet so i guess no need for a mhl cable adapter. very happy camper today
Chromecast is a nice cheap option as well.
Can anyone tell me if there are any USB C to micro USB adaptors that work for OTG. I've tried a few brands and they will work for charging, but not OTG.
