Do Not Disturb not following Automatic Rules - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else notice this? I set the DND automatic rules to Alarms Only from 10pm to 6am, Sundays through Thursdays. The phone will automatically turn on DND at 10pm, but for some reason it never switches off at 6am. Once I notice, I can manually turn it off but that defeats the purpose of having an automatic rule in place. I've noticed this on both the March and April updates, but I'm pretty sure it worked properly before that.

I am having the same problem, did you ever find a solution?

I noticed this the other day on my 6P. It works properly in Safe Mode (you can tell when you adjust the volume control as it displays the rule name instead of the generic 'until you cancel it'). This means some app I had installed was messing with it.
I tried deleting a lot of apps but none made a difference. I ended up doing a factory reset and all is well. I have reinstalled almost all of my apps and it is still working. The only ones I have yet to install that deal with notifications are Tasker, and DLink and Samsung camera apps. Yet I deleted them before the reset and it didn't change anything.
Previous to me noticing this, I had set up a Tasker profile to read my notifications to me; in this case all notifications. I have a feeling this may have broken something (Android is so brittle), but odd that the behavior persisted after disabling Tasker (and even uninstalling it).

No, I think it just fixed itself at some point. I am Having the same issue again on my new phone (Xperia XZ), so I'll post here if I figure it out.

Oops I just posted the same question before finding this thread. Having the same problem on my 6P which was upgraded from M to N. I have a 5X too that I started fresh on N (stock image flash) and it works fine on that one, just not on my 6P. Not sure if it's the upgrade M to N or specific to the 6P.
I tried deleting the rule and re-creating it but it doesn't help.
(if a mod could please merge the 2 threads)

I have this same issue. I had it on the Pure Nexus ROM too. Now I'm on stock 7.1.1 and the DND still doesn't turn off when it's supposed to. Annoying AF.

Not sure what we can do about it, I'm thinking not use the rules and instead use an automation app to do it, the likes of MacroDroid, Automagic, etc. Don't know if such apps would require root to turn DND on/off though.

It happens since marshmallow, sometimes a reboot fix the issue and sometime you have to turn off the automatics rule manually turn on and off the DND and reboot.
I get this issue when DND is set on automatic rules and i change it to on or off manually (only sometimes).

Interesting, I never had a problem on M, it only started for me after I upgraded to N.

I didn't have this problem after I upgraded to N, it was the October security update when the problem started for me.

There's a bug filed it seems. Hopefully Google will do something about it. Please vote for the issue to be fixed.

Are you using Android Wear? It seams, that after today's update AW app (version 2.0.0.138705214), problem with DND mode went away. Look at Apkmirror for that version, and please report, if it solve this problem you as well.

I do use Android Wear and I got the update to 2.0.0.138705214 this afternoon. I will report tomorrow morning if the Automatic rule turned itself off. Thanks for the tip.

It seems that the latest Android Wear fixed the issue for me, at least for now. I hope it sticks. Yes, I use Wear.

Same here.

Android Wear update seems to have fixed it for me too.

Yep, it's been working fine for 2 days now.

Alarms Broken?

So I have been using Timely for quite a while on my HTC One m7 and Nexus 5, but ever since I started using my Nexus 6P as my daily phone, I have noticed that the alarm is hit or miss. I tried the suggestions from here, but that does not seem to have made much of a difference. I have also tried going to the stock Clock app, it seems to be a bit better, but not by much.
What I have been noticing is that the alarm I have set for 5:30AM it will either go off or it will just not go off at all and I will get a notification that the alarm was missed at 5:30AM. If the alarm does go off, I usually hit snooze and just lay in bed until it goes off again checking email or something on my tablet (so the phone should still be locked). When I realize that I have been awake longer than 10 minutes, I look at my phone and there is a notification that the alarm for 5:30AM was missed... So it realized the alarm should have went off, but didn't.
I also have 2 later alarms (9:35AM and 10:20AM) and both of them are still in Timely and they work just fine, so maybe there is something with the deep sleep in Marshmallow?
I am running the stock image, updated to 6.0.1 via OTA, no root, no custom kernel, nothing that IMO should be affecting the operation of this type of stuff.
Just wondering if anybody else is having similar issues or if somebody can recommend an alarm app that is not suffering from this issue.
It seems that any alarm other than stock has issues. I see the post you referenced mentioned adding exceptions for those apps to prevent battery optimization. Did you try that with no luck? I don't know if there has been much luck other than just using the stock alarm if you really need to depend on it to wake up for work or other important events. I have never had stock alarm not go off, but I don't use any other apps.

I did try turning off optimizations for Timely, that did not seem to help much. The funny thing is that the stock alarm is also having similar issues, so either I am that heavy of a sleeper or maybe I just need to try flashing the factory image back to it, which, like I mentioned, I do not think I did anything to cause this type of issue, but it is an OS after all, so who knows what could anger it.
I did just tonight try setting the auto dismissal time to Never as well as maxing out the volume (it was down by about 10%), so maybe that will wake me up.
I'll see what happens tomorrow morning and will report my findings a little later. In the mean time, if anybody can think of something that I could try, it would be greatly appreciated, although a restore is not the end of the world, I would like it if I didn't have to spend the time restoring the apps and accounts and what not.
Does this apply to you?

Like Red said, you need to have an alarm set first. AND... Any automatic "do no disturb" settings like, "every day from xx : xx to xx : xx" will override the "do not disturb until next alarm". So if you have the phone automatically do not disturb until 8am every day, but you need to wake up at 6am and set the do not disturb to until next alarm before your usual rules kick in... at 6am, do not disturb will not automatically turn off with the alarm. It'll stay on until 8am. Just FYI.

Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I'm on 6.0.1 stock and I use Timely, have no issues at all...
For what it is worth, after I set it that the Stock Clock Alarm Never gets dismissed and made sure the alarm volume was set to 100%, it has been going off like... umm, clock work. I tried doing Timely last night and made sure I had another alarm setup just in case, I noticed the Stock Clock alarm went off on the other device, but my 6P with Timely, did not go off.
I'm just going to give up on Timely for now, maybe they will release an update and I will give that a shot, but for now, Stock it is.
The new doze mode will impact any alarms apps that are not updated for android M to use GCS etc. that's why your alarms are not firing.
For now you have to use the stock google alarm which correctly works with doze mode.

Loving the marshmallow update but issues now with notifications

Hi guys
I updated to MM on Sunday night and find it really good. But one issue I have is with doze and gmail. When the phone is left for a while doing nothing and it goes in to doze mode I do not get gmail notifications. Sometimes they come through hours later, other times I have to go in to the gmail app and manually refresh. I have gone in to the doze setting and excluded gmail but the issue is still there. Also I have an android wear watch and if I loose signal whilst going out of the room it doesn't always reconnect until I pick up the phone (movement to the phone disables doze).
I know it's a widespread issue with the nexus phones as well but wondered if anyone had any fixes until Google get their act together?
Cheers

6/128GB, 7.0, I can't stop notifications from turning screen on?

With 6.1.1 I was able to stop notifications from turning on my screen. Since the update to 7.0, no matter what my settings, text messages (using Textra) always turn on the screen.
Does anybody know how to stop this?
Seems like I remember the exact same thing happened with my HTC A9 when it updated to 7.0 as well. But, I was able to stop it. For some reason, the Axon 7 will not stop, no matter what settings. Unless of course I'm missing something.
Thanks!

Oreo Notifications.......

Has anyone else experienced sporadic notifications since updating to 8.1? Unrooted, and ever since the update, my notifications will only vibrate when the screen is off, but will go audible if the screens on.... or ill get a few hours of normal functionality, then back to whatever it wants to do... Ill get delayed text notifications or even doubling them up. Ive never had this issue before. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated

I have the same issue. Orea 8.1 unrooted.
Have you tried removing the apps that need immediate notifications from battery optimization? Oreo is more aggressive stopping the background activity of apps than Nougat was. it's an intentional battery saving feature.

I've noticed this too, and literally just came on XDA to post this same question!!
It seems to take away notification sounds for most apps until I restart the phone. Based on the timing, maybe it has to do with going into a deeper sleep mode or something. Seems more like a glitch than a feature to me, since the notifications don't come back until I restart.
I'll try the battery optimization thing mentioned above, but I don't want WhatsApp draining my battery.

Good tip, Thanks. I was unaware they automatically optimized the apps for battery in the update. what a pain in the a$$. Ive changed the setting for messenger and telegram, Ill report back if i see an improvement.
Hmmm. I changed my battery optimization do exclude Google Voice and Android Messages... it worked for a small amount of time, now I just get vibration, but no sound for notifications.
Oreo 8.1 release.

I was using Nova Launcher when I had this issue. I switched to the default launcher and haven't had the issue since.

App Battery Optimization resetting after reboot?

There are are a few apps that I set to be "NOT OPTIMIZED" such as wear OS and Nest. Lately I've noticed that apps that are set to this setting are reset back to OPTIMIZED after a reboot of the phone. I tried to see if this behavior is on my Pixel XL 2 but the settings stick after a reboot on the Pixel. Is anyone else experiencing this on their OnePlus?
Yes, I am experiencing this as well. I thought I was going crazy. I use the Nine email app for work and after every reset it tells me that the app is not set to be used the background for syncing. I just set a bunch of apps to not optimize to be sure, and upon restart my 'not optimized' list is empty.

I'm having the same issue with Wear OS. Every reboot I have to set to Not Optimize
I posted in the OnePlus community and support contacted me to get a log file but it's 69mb. They asked me to email but i can't. I'm waiting for their response.

They know about this. It's been happening on all of my OP phones. It's really irritating.
All of your op phones meaning previous generations of OnePlus phones? If so that doesn't bode well for a fix.

Yes, 5t and 5 as well. Problem here is for me and a lot of other people, they are using apps like Plus Beat to get notifications since OP idiotically removed the notification light, and those apps need optimization turned off to work. It's not a hard fix to go unselect it again but it shouldnt be happening regardless.
This is now happening WITHOUT rebooting the phone. How do we fix this?? Plus beat us constantly being overwritten to optimize battery when I turned it off.

Same thing here. I did find that the reset happens after reboot. If you restart and go straight to battery to look at your app optimization, everything will be fine. Then wait 30 seconds or so and everything will have been reset to "Optimize." Super frustrating.

It is a know issue and Oneplus has this set this way on purpose. We can only help enough of us complained to Oneplus and this gets changed on some future update.
Battery optimization see more list on free software download site it will open your device and see the the problem.
This issue and the microphone/ audio issue pushed me back to my Pixel. Add to that a weird issue with tune in radio where it keeps thinking it's offline when you launch it initially and takes a good 10 minutes to come back online and all that was a deal breaker. Factory reset did not fix these issues.

Seems fix turning off folowing.
I disable "deep optimization and" "sleep standby optimization"
Settings --> battery --> battery optimization --> 3 dots on upper right and then "Advanced Optimization"

Hmm... I went to try this out, but I don't have the 3 dots to get to the deep optimization and sleep standby optimization settings. I have the T-Mobile version of the phone.
This is incredible irritating! I rely on being able to get emails from work, and I keep finding the optimize setting reverted from "Don't Optimize" to "Optimize". At first I was blaming the app but have now come to the conclusion that it's the implementation of the Battery Optimization on this phone. Reboots definitely revert the setting, but I also suspect it gets reverted after some time without a reboot. I haven't really been keeping track until recently to confirm this.
