Hi after flashing a rom not on xda my phone's IMEI became erased. unfortunately the EFI backup that I had wouldn't fix either. I tried going back to stock using SmartSwitch emergency recovery. Still no fixes.
Please help my phone cannot use cellular service!
Any idea Im all ears. I tried various methods for older Galaxys around the xda, none worked.
I know my IMEI and S/N how can I fix it.
Please help!!!!

With all do respect.... I don't think he was bashing anyone....he was just saying he flashed a ROM that wasn't posted to XDA...more than likely there wasn't any other option to ask for help elsewhere since XDA is very helpful with responses from developers and others.
I was wondering if anyone that is overseas (outside america) could share an EFI backup partition with me so I can fix my phone. Maybe that would fix.
keep watching the echorom thread someone else had the issue as well.
I cant they banned me from seeing their forum when I reported the bug.
O I see. If something gets posted that might help I'll let you know. But 1 thing I saw already is trying to flash multiple times with Odin
It might not work the first time. Or the second... or the third. Try like 10 times in the mean time until someone can help. If all else fails there has to be a way to make a working imei again since you know it anyway

It was not because of unlock. My phone was already unlocked. It happened after flashing a bad rom.

This happened to me before in a old Tmobile S3 (T999) I had only edge network...
It was a headache and I was only able to put it back working going to a store that had BOX for flashing and do it myself with their box
and rewrite my IMEI manually during flash, as they were not able to do it (more say didn't have patience) .
I dunno if there is a easier way to do it... but this was how I fixed mine back then. But one thing is true, I lost a lot of time back then trying to fix it and if it happens me now again I would do a quick search and if not quick solution, try to find a guy that owns a box as it will literally save you days and sleep. However there are excellent devs around so they might be able to help..

Would u have any suggestions on where I could go to fix?
Quick question. What csc is in your phone now? Have to tried changing it again with a new one or the one that was originally on it when you got it? Like a flashable zip? Cos it looks like somehow the one you used must corrupt something in the efs... which is bizzare

I went to local store that usually unlocks/fixes phones, but I had a friend connection around.. hence they allowed me to go inside and do it myself.
Try to search 1st around if there is a solution, as it might be... I can't remember how it happened to my phone, but I was flashing lots of ROM without a problem and then it happened for some reason. There is a reason for it, however I couldn't find it as my knowledge is limited. I do remember that I tried, stock, odin, kies, whatever... and nothing worked until I went to try with a BOX.
IF you can't find a quick solution try to search around physical stores that flash phones, as they usually have a BOX and probably they might pull the S7 image already for their box... try to search a friendly one and take the purchase papers with you as most are not very comfortable with anything that might involve IMEI if you odn't know anybody.

It was the German based CSC
G935FDBT1APC5
However I flashed back STOCK which has
G935FNZC1APAX
The bizzare thing is my phone appears to still get a signal, but emergency calls only. When I #06# It shows 00000000000000 for 2 MEIDs. Which is weird as I don't have a dual sim model. This is even after Odin stock, no root.

Fair enough, I still have the original purchase, I got it from overseas, receipt, and sticker still on the phone. Even the box. at the same time i was wondering if anyone overseas, (not in the usa) would be willing to backup EFS and PM me with a G935F because I could use that meid in the usa. I have no intentions of going overseas to Europe anytime soon but I might go abroad if its oceana or Asia.

Hey I recently got a vibrant and have been trying tonged it unlocked. I sent the phone into samsung for a factory restore. When I got the phone back and tried to use the galaxy s unluckier and it would not give me a code. The application would return with "are you sure this is a galaxy s phone?". I rooted the phone and tried again with same result. I went on ebay and paid for an unlock code and it didn't work. I had the guy recheck the code and when he tried again the same code came back so it must be the correct code for my phone. I tried doing the i9000 hack that requires changing the data inside nv_data.bin to make the unlock code all0's. That didn't work either. Is there any reason the paid unlock code would not work if it was the correct code for my iemi? Is there anything I can do?

Omg, dude you have me freaking out over here. My Vibrant comes back from Samsung (where they restored it) on Monday! I don't even live in the US so I don't have many options. Please let me know if you get it figured out.
Edit: Wait a second, I think of heard about this problem before. If memory serves me, you have to flash it to another firmware (downgrade) for you to be able to unlock it. Can't recall which one though... run a search on here.
Here it is, try this post 107: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771158&page=11
I'm having errors also like yours, but you have already tried a code but i haven't cause i can't obtain my code. i'll just tell t mobile to give me the code.

Sorry to worry you. I dont know what they did, but the codes are no longer stored in the nv_data.bin file and where the unlock code should be its all F's. From what I read that happens when you update to froyo, but I never did and I verified the phone was not on froyo. So I went ahead and paid for the unlock code and when I got it and tried it, it sadly did not work. I thought it was maybe the incorrect code so I had the guy check it again and he got the same code back. He is going to credit me back what I paid, but I am affraid to try from someone else and get the same code. I am hoping someone can shed some light on a possible fix, I have tried flashing to various 2.1 releases and trying the code but it didnt work.

Yes I tried that method already. In fact I spent an entire day trying to get it to work. Every time it says network lock unsuccessful and doesnt unlock my phone.
Is that method suppose to work because I could never get it to. I followed the directions perfectly with no errors so i dont know. maybe I am using the wrong firmware, but since its posted in the i9000 forum I am guessing most of them use firmware for that phone. I have tried the original firmware, the one that came after that, and the very newest one. I think there were a couple in between.
Could anyone send me a good nv_data.bin, maybe I can inject my code into it and get it to work.

same thing for me except I never sent mine into Samsung, still on JI6 firmware and never flashed it with another rom...but the application says, no codes found
I recovered and there's a nv file there but after using 0xHex, I get FFFFFFFF and a bunch of numbers

i am having the same exact problems as u with my vibrant...i`ve tried everything the last 3 days and nothing...my nv_data.bin shows 0kb so if anyone could send me a good nv_data.bin also i would appreciate that....if it still doesnt work i will have to sell my phone because i have att thats why i am needing to unlock it
If you guys don't get anyone to send it, just send me a PM on Monday and i'll be glad to help.
I don't think I'm gonna have any problems as my phone was unlocked before. And I have the unlock code for it. In my haste, I misread and thought Laaf's phone was unlocked then came back from Samsung locked. Then he couldn't re-unlock it. My bad...
I had the same problem with my phone. I used this method:
Step 1
Punch this code into the dialer
*7465625*638*#
Step 2
Lock it to the MCC of the carrier you want to use.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code
Here's a list
I think you need to flash to stock use to use this dialer code, I'm on Froyo and I can't use that code.
Good Luck. PM me if you need more help.
I don't think a nv_data.bin from someone else will do you any good, I am sure it would be their code , but I may be wrong ...
The problem is, way back , before you ever flashed any new rom or update, many threads stated, make a backup copy of your nv_data.bin, and you can restore it whenever you need it ...
I have flashed many many many custom roms and always restoring my phones original nv_data.bin allowed me to generate codes(I have unlocked it but did it just for testing purposes), and no matter what rom I flashed after restoring it always generates my same code.
soooo that being said, if you do not have your nv_data.bin, there are some hex edits you can do to the one with the F's in it, or you call tmo for the unlock code.
There are many threads on the subject.

Is a non-TMO sim card required for the unlock?
I got it unlocked but now the imei is wrong. Gotta figure out how to fix it. No backup of nv_data.bin so may be out of luck.

Just because...
no real reason since it works now, but maybe in the future i might need my original imei on the phone.
So I just got my Sasktel phone back from Futuretel.
waited over 4 weeks.
I turn on my phone, goes to main menu. ASKS FOR AN UNLOCK CODE!!!!!!
Sasktel doesnt have a network lock. I work for Sasktel in repair , and theres nothing we can do on our side.
I called Futuretel, and after waiting for half an hour, I get a msg telling me that they cant do anything, and that I will have to send the phone back.
Anybody know if reflashing a new JL2 will remedy my issue, or is this network lock tied to the mainboard itself?!?
how about this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913681
and you posted in the wrong section of the forum by the way...
out of curisoity, would reflashing a different firmware change that lock? Or is that something tied up to the mainboard?
I was gonna ODIN in a new JL2 and hope it fixes!~
You can unlock it with one of several apps on the Market but you shouldn't have to unlock it if it is a SaskTel phone (on SaskTel's network). Maybe check the product code and see if it is maybe a Bell phone they sent back.

yes, buy the SGS unlock pro app for $5
it works
but the guide i liked is even easier, just go in and delete the files, and it works, FREE!!
make sure you make a backup first
That guide is really long and complex (all the root commands), unless im missing something.
I saw your comment, but Im not sure I understand if you went thru all the steps, or if u just went and deleted 3 files and u were unlocked?!?!?

Hello all, there are some people pm me with problem of fake imei or not registered on network. I'd like to tell you who have these problems try to search through the site first. If there is no way you can do to retrieve your original imei back then please, pm me your email address or else I won't answer your message. I must look after my daughter full time now so please be patience if I reply your mail late. Thank you
Angel S.
Wait a minute!!!
Hello all,
Down below you will see the original thread of this topic and the help from many people who are very kind to me. Anyway, I just wanted to update that I found a way to get my original IMEI back now. But... still can't make any call...
So, for everyone who has the problem of "Error mount efs" just wait a minute before try to do anything with your phone... I have posted the new thread about the problem of my phone but seems like people like to come and post in this thread more...
First Issue!!!!! for people who have efs corrupt...
Your problem started at the same point as mine... If you need me to help please, kindly explain all the details to me to my private message box... and please leave your e-mail so, I can mail you back in case I don't have time to come and answer you here... Normally when your efs corrupt, your phone can't boot up normally. You will stuck on Bootloop... which is softbrick... so, don't panic... be calm... everything's gonna be fine... I was panic at that time and ended up that... there must be some mistake been made to my phone when I sent it to repair... So I suggest you who have this efs corrupt problem to take a deep breath and search through internet a lot... learn more about your phone first before you do anything...
Second Issue!!!!! for people who have imei changed...
For the phone that has problem about imei changed only...(no error mount efs) I strongly suggest you to... restore your efs backup first... If you don't have efs backup... Then I suggest you to go back to the last firmware you are on... if that's not help... let's try the stock firmware of your phone... If the single file is not enough let's do it separately with PDA, MODEM and CSC...
I have learned new thing about the Samsung firmware that... they are not prefect... many firmware of Samsung can harm your efs folder and make your imei change... even though your phone never been root, never been on custom firmware, never installed infected apps, doesn't mean you will never ever have this imei problem... Again...people, be clam... everything's gonna be fine... There are tools and methods that can fix your situation... but as I said...you must know your phone first before you do anything...
BEWARE!!!!!
I must tell you the truth that I'm not an expert... I'm just the girl who has the problem with my very first Samsung phone, and I'm trying real hard to find a way out from this situation... with help from good friends of mine all around the world... They all are so kind and so helpful to me so, my phone can boot up normally again but...not completely fix yet!!! My problem is harder, tougher... and more difficult to fix... there's a tool that may fix my phone's problem now...but I just wanna try to do something else first to see what exactly is the problem of my phone... so I can give you all the details about it later, clear and true. Including the solution of these problem also...
Down below is the beginning of my problem...
Original thread:
Hello everyone,
My name is Angel from Thailand, I have problem with my S4 GT-I9500 two weeks ago about "error mount efs" anyway, after a week of searching for solution I've finally made my phone boot up normally.
But the IMEI is a fake one "004999010640000" I'm trying to find a solution for this problem but so, far...going nowhere... tried many methods from this site and many other sites but still can't fix it... the phone right now can connect to wi-fi, I can use social app and connect internet as usual but can't call out or accept call...
The phone is on latest stock firmware I9500XXUBMEA root already... I try to look in the files from efs folder, open nv_data.bin in Hex Editor but can't see IMEI anywhere... I'm not sure if it's the right place to look for or not but after search through internet for week I found some picture of nv_data.bin in Hex Editor, it's from the good phone with good IMEI, I can see that in text field it has IMEI there...but mine is not!!!
Then I found article about EEPROM, that it contains the real IMEI permanently. So, I'm trying to find a way to read or pull out that file from EEPROM but...there's none can answer this...
So, I'm back to search for IMEI repair service, but no one can guarantee that it supports model GT-I9500...
So, I'd like to ask...if anyone has idea of how to fix this IMEI problem?? I'm so exhausted now... I just bought this phone for only one month...now it can't make any call... I really need help for this issue... so, please...if anyone has idea for a way out, please point me direction...(not SAMSUNG Service...my phone is not in service...) Thank you so much for your time...

I want to buy box or dongle to fix it but since no one can tell for sure if it supports GT-I9500 then it's a waste of money...

Hello,
Well, very easy..lol... I never use custom rom before..so my S4 always be on stock rom.. Last update that I did I updated through Kies.. all was well.. my phone is root..and I decided to find out which app will suits me best so I did install and uninstall many apps and usually after uninstall I'll do wipe cahe and dalvik.. so I did the same as I did everytime.. the last app that I used was swapper2.. but I don't think it's the app that make my phone down..or maybe it is..I'm not sure.. all I did is I'm about to uninstall the app swapper2..but since I did re-partition my extSdCard..and use it as swap for ram I think I should unmount the extSD. first.. then reboot the phone and will come back to uninstall the app.. and that's when it happened..I didn't make any back up...the last one that I had I just delete it earlier of that day...but well, since the normal backup can't backup the efs folder...I'm still wonder what's the difference it could be...
After I unmount the extSD. from swapper2 I reboot the phone..then it stuck on Samsung logo..and go nowhere since then.. I used the swapper2 for 2 days already and the phone was fine.. so, I'm not sure if it's the app or me did something wrong.. after that the S4 stuck and can't boot up normally...
A week passed...after visit the shop that I bought the phone from and another shop..there's no one there can make my phone boot up...then they said..maybe something inside broke down..need to change..when I asked "Oh...what is broke down?" none can't tell...so, I decided to get my phone back from them..and started searching on internet.. many people have problem with efs corrupted.. then I found the article on a web call DroidView... the guy there.. Mr.Rakesh helped me out... actually on this site has threads about the code to mount efs also.. but that time my phone can't boot...there's no way to install Terminal Emulator app from Google Play...
At last...the hero appeared...^_^ The tool that I used to enter the code that Mr.Rakesh gave me was the Terminal Emulator...which I used it through the Aroma File Manager that I opened in recovery mode of PhilZ Touch Recovery... so, must give PhilZ and his friends the full credit for that...without his recovery...I can do nothing... I tried to connect my phone through adb shell but it said the status of device is off all the time...there's no way that can use any code to force the efs to mount without the PhilZ tool...
After that... the phone works just fine... except...the IMEI is lost...(well..not lost..it's the fake one...some say it's a default IMEI that your phone will use if the efs files corrput and the system can't find your IMEI data...) so I can't make any call... when I check the details of the phone it shows the firmware..it shows the baseband..it shows the kernel...it shows everything the phone must show you except the IMEI. !!! when I check the files in efs folder...the serial data there also be all zero... now I'm stuck with this phone for two weeks... eat less...sleep less... and still can't find a way to fix the IMEI... I search on many sites...some forum have members that have IMEI problem like mine also.. some decided to sent it back to Samsung Service...but even the Samsung Service can't fix the problem... they changed the motherboard instead!!! my phone is not in service...it's a phone from outside country...the csc code shows XME, means it's the phone for sell in Malaysia... so...what I can do now is keep on searching for solution... I'm not intend to give up til I find one... I never fix the phone before...in fact...I have no idea about the android phone... but if I can fix one problem of it...then I may fix another problem too... with all the help from many people who share their good details in those articles and threads...(God bless them all...)
So, that's my story... I hope nothing will happen to your phone... It's such a heartache for me...coz this phone is a gift from my boyfriend... he works so hard to bought it for me..just because of my curiosity...I broke my gift in less than a month!!! (stupid me!!!)
At last... just so you know...again... there's no one...and nothing...as far as I know by now that can fix the IMEI problem of the model GT-I9500 of Galaxy S4. I'm so curious again...that who's gonna be the first... but not me...for sure...the Hex Editor made me sick already...since yesterday...like my eyeballs gonna pop out from my head...lol... ^_^
Very long story huh?... just wanna make sure no one made mistake like me again... so, please after make full back up of your system and datas... just hit the button to backup the efs too!!!

Well i hope your phone works fine.. I can understand how u feel when the phone is faulty and you cant do anything to fix the same
I had read about EFS backup and restore in the SGS3 forum.. Maybe You can Give a Try there.. Create a Post there maybe they are able to help you out. As SGS4 has less devs here then SGS3 forum.
All the Best

Your IMEI is listed on your original box as well as on the back of your phone under the battery. If you were able to enter a fake IMEI, could you not just enter your IMEI that's printed on the back of your phone?
Thank you...

Well,You said that ur BF gifted u and this phone is from a different Country So why not send it Back to Ur BF and Ask him to Give to Samsung Center and get it covered under warranty?
Basically, send the Phone back from whichever country it was bought from and get the Board replaced under warranty?

Well,, let me explain it to you like this my friend... In Thailand..we have 3 major kinds of mobile market...1. we buy the original real phone from the authorized seller.. just like from the Samsung mobile shop or the provider of your baseband...(mine is DTAC) 2. we buy the original real phone that been imported from another country...which sell through the small mobile shops that you can see all over the country...there are many of them... 3. we buy copy phone from any mobile shop that sell copy phone...
Now... the 1.group...you'll get warranty from the shop you bought the phone from...software&hardware...for a year at least... but as you know that..if the service know you root the phone..flash custom firmware..or drop it real hard..or accidentally make it wet...the service will not fix it for you...if you want them to fix...you have to pay...
2.group...you'll get warranty from the shop where you bought the phone from...mostly...they'll support you with software for a year...maybe less... in my case...they gave me support for software 1 year...problem is...when I asked for help...they can't help me...and they try to make it easier for them by told me that there's some hardware in my phone broke...if I want to use my phone again...I need to pay for the hardware and the mechanic man who fix it... so, I decided not to accept that choice unless I really have no choice left...
3.group...usually you'll get nothing... but some shop will give you support for software also... as you know that the copy phone is much more cheaper...but...break down so easy also...
My phone was bought in Thailand...from a shop that import the phone from outside the country...the price of this kind if phone is cheaper than the one in Samsung shop... but it's the original one too... only you won't get the service from Samsung...that's all...
So, I guess I can't send it back to its birthplace... coz the shop that bought the phone from won't send it for me...
That's why I'm here...
Hi everybody,
I'm having some questions. My phone was rooted and I tried to unroot the phone yesterday. Well I used many of the tutorials on this forum and something went wrong, because afterwards my phone lost the IMEI number, which suddenly was changed to something like 004900.... And the "no service" started. I've called the phone company which told me that everything seems to be correct and that I should try to restart the phone and so on..
Well after many hours of searching on Google I found a program called Chimera, which helped me out with restoring the IMEI number to the correct one and after that my phone worked and the "no service" was gone. But this morning somehow the no service came back and I'm currently not able to do call anybody with the phone.
What do I do now? And how can I get the latest firmware 4.3? I live in Denmark and I can't find a stock firmware for the danish company Telenor.
Please help me out with this problem.
Guess you will have to flash firmware of other country, just like I do.

But does that work for you? Which country do you for example use as stock firmware?
Questions go in the q&a forum, report your post and ask a moderator to move it.
A search would have found many duplicate posts on the same subject. Suggest you read the sticky thread, efs 'know this stuff' for further information.

BTU Vodafone. Works as it should. If phone isn't from UK,it doesn't mean that firmware will work bad on it. Phone just doesn't care about that, don't worry.
So, I'm at a total and complete loss as to what to do. I have spent hours upon hours googling, and searching xda and trying step after step after guide after guide and I canNOT fix my S5! I've tried recovery, I've tried Odin and there has got to be something I'm missing. When I plug up the phone into my laptop, it sort of recognizes it, in the sense that it makes the notification noise of it being recognized, as with any external device. Odin picks it up as well. The issue is when trying to boot up the phone, it's stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S5 custom, android etc screen. it will not go past this. i'm almost in tears right now, and just want to get the phone working again. Is there anyone out there that can help???
Tiny update.
So I tried another method, and still having issues. Only difference is, I get past the powered by android screen, but then when getting to the Samsung with the color and oval it freezes and shuts down. One step forward, 2 steps back.
which G900 model do you have? like is it a G900F? Mine is a G900P

good to hear!! (or see, rather LoL) usually a flash in Odin with the correct tarball fixes most issues with S5's

well, let's just say i have a folder of 26 links, majority from here on trying to find a solution on how to root and consequently unbrick my phone when I messed it up. that's probably not even all of them. I only posted on one asking a question, but it was about upgrading the firmware (still waiting on a reply on that, lol). so I have no clue which post it was that was finally successful in restoring my phone.
