I've read many posts by i9500 owners on the echo issue. The problem is that the person calling can hear an echo of him/her self issue. I couldn't find a solution. I find it really strange that an issue as serious as this one hasn't been dealt with yet. What's the point of releasing new custom roms for the i9500 with this issue unresolved.
The only custom roms that don't have this problem are stock based roms which suck bigtime.
I really love cyanogenmod and other aosp roms and would love to be able to use them. Any developers out there. We really need your help. This is an issue that all i9500 owners have . I've installed cyanogenmod on 3 i9500 phones just to make sure it's not just my phone. The echo is always there
Please help
I finally found a way to fix the echo. This works on cyanogen based roms which have the same mixer paths xml file as cyanogen mod. However on many roms the mixer paths file looks different and I haven't figured out how to do the same thing.
So for anyone who has the same problem. Find this line
ctl name="Earpiece", "Builtin Mic", "Back Mic" /> remove "Back Mic" from the line so it looks like this ctl name="Earpiece", "Builtin Mic" />
Find this line <ctl name="Noise Gate Threshold Volume" value="3" /> and change the value from 0 to 3
Now delete the following lines
<!-- Route all mics via LHPF1 -->
<!-- need to move modifier field -->
<ctl name="LHPF1 Mode" value="High-pass" />
<ctl name="LHPF2 Mode" value="High-pass" />
I'm not sure which one fixed the problem and I didn't have time to check yet.
So for anyone with the i9500 echo problem try it.
I've installed slim rom 5.0.2 for i9500 on which the mixer paths file looks exactly like cyanogenmod. For some reason on 12.1 cyanogenmod nightly builds my bluetooth doesn't work. My phone pairs with the bluetooth device but there is sound only for a couple of seconds and then it goes off. Any idea why? Anyone else with this problem? I tried it with the original unmodified mixer paths to make sure it doesn't have anything to do with the changes I made. I also tried different modems.
Bluetooth works fine on other cyanogenmod based roms like GearCM
Any developers out there can you take a look at what I did and explain why it fixes the issue? Why haven't they fixed it on cyanogenmod nightly builds.
Also many roms like GearCM for example, mixer paths looks completely different. The microphones are not named build in mic, back mic etc... I can just see a bunch of inputs and I have no idea which ones correspond to which microphones. Also I can't find the "<!-- Route all mics via LHPF1 -->" section. Can someone explain how to do the same thing on these roms?
Anyway, now my phone finally works without an echo even at full volume, but I would love to be able to tweak GearCM 5.1.1 or 6.0.1 version in the same way but like I said the file looks completely different. Any help appreciated.

never tried cm13. I still get some echo at high volume but its really soft. tmyou said you have an idea? I can test it. maybe disable some mic for speakerphone mode
which build of cm13 are you refering to. gearcm 13?
there is also something called AEC which stands for acoustic echo cancellation. Maybe thats what we need to enable but dont know how. audio_effects.conf has some lines which refer to aec, agc automatic gain control and ns noise suppression. They are commented out by default but just removing the comments doesnt seem to work

Btw its for gearcm13
I know you like me want to use Marshmalow
Could you give a link for that thread that you found solution for echo fix
I didn't find a solution in any thread. I found possible solution but nothing that works. I just played around with mixer paths xml until I found something that works. Btw I downgraded to cm 12.1
Can you test it yourself and let us know? You can just back it up to your external sdcard and place your modified file in /etc with root explorer overwriting the original. Reboot and if it doesn't work just replace it with the original again that you've backed up on the external sdcard.
If you can't do it I can try backup my cm12.1 and install cm13 just to test it. Btw my camera didn't work with gearcm13 and some other stuff I don't remember. Does it work for you? Which is the latest build of gearcm13?
I've read somewhere about an application called Samsung Noise Reduction that allows you to enable or disable noise reduction on cyanogenmod based roms. Some people say it made a difference for them but it didn't make any difference for me. Give it a shot maybe it works for you.
To install it you have to download amazon underground. It's an amazon app similar to google play store that you can download apps from. Then find an application called "Samsung Noise Reduction"
Make sure you select "Apps and Games" category when searching for it. Install the free version and try to enable/disable noise reduction to see if it makes a difference.
What did you change?

Hi everybody,
This mod will fix every sound issue (sound recorder, camcorder, audio playback...)
Flash works only on twrp recovery !
For official CM12.1 recovery don't flash ! just unzip and copy the files inside and set permissions.
Update : google voice command fixed
Everything works now perfectly !:fingers-crossed:
Wow! the volume is so perfect with this fix, not too high, neither too low, sound recording quality has been improved as well. Thanks! GREAT work!

yes, dpi = 440 you can change it on build.prop
change this line :
ro.sf.lcd_density=440 to 480
440 is optimal density for 5" size
Can you please tell us what else has been changed? the phone feels and sounds a LOT better, this is an amazing improvement!
First of all, i don't have Z1. This is from my Z1 compact tweaks !
- There are a lot of modifications on : build.prop, media_profiles.xml and mixer_paths.xml
- Z1 (and of course Z1c) don't have stereo speaker or mic. I tweaked mixer_paths.xml and media_profiles.xml for this.
- FPS on video recorder was increased on media_profiles.xml
- CyanogenMod forgot to put a file called "audio_platform_info.xml" on the last build from aug.29 and there was some errors on audio_effects.xml that didn't match with soundfx and audio_policy.msm8974.so
That's all !
New update out (OP).
Please flash over the new nightly from 13.09.2014 and up !

finally!!!!!
great, awesome i make party now..love you for doing this...every voice recording was so quiet until now...whatsapp voice memo was useless cause nobody was able to understand...
one single bug: in Cyanogenmod Version it shows only "11" and so the cm version which is installed get offered to update...so it wants me to update but it is the same version which is already installed..hope you understand what i mean..
but thats a little mistake ....
great mod!!!!
---------- Post added at 05:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:11 PM ----------
it also changed the build date...why? please fix
Edit
no it is simply perfect...your great mod!!! is causing many little problems... because of your edited build.prop...in landscape mode in youtube for example it shows no on screen buttons...only one circle of it but is has no function....also all the build updates were disturbed which was causing wrong update messages...
the simple solutin is to delete the build.prop in your audio fix zip file and flash the file.....but you have to reinstall google apps after flashing the zip without the build.prop...but now all is fine and thanks again for this mod!!
cant use cm until i found your mod

Hey guys. I'm no expert in modding and stuff - but I'm using CM11 for my Z1. Now I don't know how to install this sound fix. Some weeks earlier, I downloaded and installed the Z1 camera hotfix from the xda forums, but that was an .apk...
Would you guys please help me? Do I have to "simply" overwrite the files in that .zip?

Hello.
Based on these findings and this commit, I've made a patch to fix the noise cancellation issue. You don't need this if your ROM already has the fix built-in.
This is an universal patch. It is meant to work on every custom ROM
Tested:
-Official CM13
-AOSParadox
-...
If, for some reason, you want to go back to initial state, just flash revert zip
Thanks:
@ashwin007
@saurabh40629
Report back mentioning the ROM you're using.
Downloads
Thank you very much
If I've already done this fix, is it worth flashing the zip in this thread?

I've added a modified audio_platform_info.xml as seen in the ashwin's latest commit.
But if the build.prop alone fixes the noise cancellation issue, then you don't need to flash this.
In the fix from @saurabh40629 the "persist.audio.fluence.speaker" is set to false and here you set it to true. What's the difference? Saurabh40629's fix worked good for me
Rom: official cm13
Honestly, I haven't tested that much.
I wanted to keep inline with the ashwin's commit, since that's the one that will merge on official CM device tree.

I think what @phoberus meant was that you changed more than Ashwin did.
Ashwin's changes:
Code:
ro.qc.sdk.audio.fluencetype=fluence
persist.audio.fluence.mode=endfire
Your changes:
Code:
ro.qc.sdk.audio.ssr=false
ro.qc.sdk.audio.fluencetype=fluence
persist.audio.fluence.mode=endfire
persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=true
persist.audio.fluence.voicerec=false

Yes, the script overrides the values already present on build.prop, making it compatible with any custom ROM.
Ashwin's commit just changed what was missing for CM13.

Yes I had better results when speaker set to false. I used @saurabh40629 fix on Purity Rom . Phone and hands free speaker where 100% better when noise present in background . (I tested in bathroom with exhaust fan on.) Thanks for taking the time to make a flashable zip. Gives some people who are not comfortable editing a good starting point.
That was the main purpose for doing the zip file, to make it easier to apply the patch until ROM devs do the commit. It is easier to apply between nighties
All the credit goes to saurabh40629.
By the way, you can easily edit the zip at your will. Just open it and edit the "patch/fluence_config" file.
I've tested a phone call on speaker mode and persist.audio.fluence.speaker set to true causes echo on the other party. Better leave it off
I'll update the 1st post as soon as I get to my laptop.
1st post updated with these build.prod edits:
Code:
ro.qc.sdk.audio.fluencetype=fluence
persist.audio.fluence.mode=endfire
persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=true
persist.audio.fluence.voicerec=false
persist.audio.fluence.speaker=false
It is also included the updated audio_platform_info.xml from here
Hey, thanks for your investigation. What's the difference to ashwin's changes.
I did some testing and it was always a little noisy or the sound was little crappy. Wondering why...

Greetings, fellow users!
I noticed many custom ROMs for the K3 Note and A7000 Plus having issues with 1080p/720p quality not showing up in the Youtube app's menu. I experienced this myself when I installed Risma's Paranoid Android. Well I found the issue after trial and error.
The issue is because of the Youtube app determining 1080p/720p playback by model number. If the model number is invalid, Youtube disables 1080p and 720p by default.
To fix this, you need to use a root file manager like Root Explorer, Total Commander, ES File Explorer, etc. Navigate to /system and scroll down until you see build.prop. Save a copy of this first before modifying it.
After backing it up, open that file, and look for the following line that looks like this:
ro.product.model=(model number here)
Change its value to the model number of your phone. You can refer to the phone's packaging for its model number.
If you use a K50-T5, change the value to Lenovo K50-T5
If you use a K50a40, change it to Lenovo K50a40
If you use an A7000 Plus, change it to Lenovo A7000-a
...and so on and so forth.
The line should now look like this after editing (using K50-T5 as an example)
ro.product.model=Lenovo K50-T5
Save the file, and reboot your phone. Open the Youtube app and play a video and you should notice that 1080p and 720p are working again.
Remember to do this at your own risk. I am not responsible for any software/hardware damages that arise from not following the instructions carefully.

-If you want to enable stereo mod set this command with terminal emulator : "echo 0x8093 > /sys/kernel/debug/tfa9890-34/regs/04-I2SREG"
-Stereo mod will be disabled when you reboot, you can use tasker app. to apply stereo mod on boot.

c-non, latest build of lineage got a sound bug due to changes on mixer_paths (low sound on headphones). Can you provide a mod with the mixer_paths from 0308 build of lineage?
Work with dolby atmos?

Hi Guys,
READ THE THREAD CAREFULLY
So I Have Modded The mixer_paths_mtp.xml File Present On The Resurrection Remix ROM And I Was Able To Enable Dual Speakers While Playing Music.
Just Go To The Links Down Below, Download The File You Want, Replace The Downloaded mixer_paths_mtp.xml To System/Etc And Set Permission To rw-r-r And Then Reboot. For Oreo The Path Is System/Vendor/Etc
Note :
1. Before Doing, Take A Backup Of Your Current mixer_paths_mtp.xml So That You Will Be Able To Go Back To Normal If Something Happens.
2. I Only Tested It With Resurrection Remix 5.8.5 Final ROM. So If You Want To Try It On Other ROMs, First Back Up mixer_paths_mtp.xml Then Download And Replace The File To Root/System/Etc For Nougat. And For Oreo Replace The File To Root/System/Vendor/Etc. Also Don't Forget To Set Permissions And Then Reboot
3. If Your Device Bootloops, I Am Not Responsible, Just Make A BackUp Before Flashing Or Replacing.
4. There's Not Much Difference In Sound Unless You Listen In 100% Sound.
5. The Max Volume MOD Will Increase The Sound Of Front Earpiece And The Difference Is Noticeable. But Use It On Your Own Risk Cause It Pushes The Earpiece Level To Maximum.
6. I Am Not Responsible If You Damage Your Front Earpiece
Drop Your mixer_path_mtp.xml From System/Etc If You Want Me To Make It For The ROM You're Using.
Working On : Resurrection Remix, AEX
Working Alongside Viper And Dolby, Oreo, MiUi 9

Yes.. That's Why I Made Two Mods.. One Plays Music And Pushes The Limit Of Speakers And The Second One Plays At A Decent Volume (Will Not Damage).. But I'm Using The Maximum Volume MOD.. Will See Some Days, If Damages, Don't Care.. Have It Under Warrenty ?
working ????. thanks a lot bro ?

I Haven't Compiled Any ROMs Yet.. I Think You Have To Add It On Source.. I Mean On The ROM Source, You Have To Replace The Code With Mine.. Not 100% Sure Though
Well, it works somewhat. Tried the "normal" version and I have to put the phone up to the ear like I am making a call to hear anything out of that speaker. Holding the phone away, the bottom speaker overshadows the output of the front speaker completely, could just as well be off.
I did not try the max version, because I am a little chicken
I am using the changes for low call volume / low volume on video recording from this forum. I checked for possible conflicts, but they should not interfere if I am not mistaken. https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/how-to/fixed-bad-audio-videos-finally-t3625069

Well, Try The Max MOD Someday . I Have Just Seen The Link You Given.. In My MOD, I Just Changed The Music Output Speaker Values.. As I Saw His YouTube Video, He Modified Only Earpiece Volume And Added More Line.. I Think You Can Follow His Guide On My mixer_paths.xml And Enjoy The Both MOD I Guess
