Security Policy prevents fingerprint unlock ? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After the April security patch, Are you guys able to use the fingerprint to unlock the device after using a 3rd party app like 'Screen Off and Lock' to lock the screen?
PS: Actually having this issue with my Galaxy S7 after the April patch. Before updating my 6P to latest I want to know that whether any of you are experiencing.

After playing in my Galaxy Note 8 phone with several apps that can lock my screen without requiring a PIN to unlock, I decided to create my own and share it with the community. You can find it in Google Play at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gr.ictpro.jsalatas.screenoff
Furthermore, it is distributed as Free Open Source Software and its source code is available at https://github.com/jsalatas/ScreenOff
A feature that I couldn't find is the ability to set it as the Assist App of your device and just long-press your home key to turn your screen off.
Hope you'll find it useful and I would really appreciate your feedback and comments.
Thanks!

ThrottleLock 0.3c security flaw

I loaded ThrottleLock 0.3c onto my Mogul today (since s2U2 is way to buggy right now on it) and I really like the concept and idea.
But I found a flaw in the application, the application name and the developer's name is in the lower left corner of the application when the lock is engaged.
I'm not against giving the developer credit, it is a VERY good app, but this flaw seems to defeat the point of having a challenge lock on your phone.
Since anybody can find/steal my phone, know what application is locking it (since its on the lock app) & who made it, run a Google search, easily end up on this forum or emailing the developer, and pretend to be the legit owner of a phone who simply forgot how his/her lock pattern.
Then all the nice, helpful, and trusting people here would tell them how to reset the pattern using a usb connector and a computer.

I don't really think the concept is to keep people out of the phone. I think it is to keep the buttons from not getting pressed. I don't think its a smart idea to bank your protection on a series of dots, or "slide to unlock" where there might be a few people in my office baffled, by "slide to unlock" it just does not seem like it will keep people out.
I think the reasoning for branding the software is because there are a lot of bad people out there that are trying to sell our awesome devs software. They need to mark it, we have almost lost many programs because of this data theft.
"security trough obscurity" is a very bad method. Throttle lock should be safe even if you know the program and if not, hiding the program name isn't the right method to get it safer
I'd suggest using some other locking program if your worried about security. Like the default windows pin one. Correct me if i'm wrong but i don't think throttle lock was made to secure the device but more for a new, more interactive/user friendly way to have a keyguard.

[Q] Popup Ads in Lock Screen

Recently I've been getting ads popping up on my lock screen. Sometimes the popup may be up when I swipe out of lock and onto the home screen. I have downloaded some security programs, AD push apps, but none of them are able to detect which app is doing this.
Has anyone else had this issue?

Are you using a replacement lock screen or the default one? If you can't narrow it down to be from a user based app you installed, I would full wipe immediately. You seemed to have done good troubleshooting with scanning with an antivirus(i prefer Eset) and using an ad push detector.
Do the security scanners get root rights?
ICS (and beyond) needed "tagged socket" support from the kernel so that the Android UI can tell you how much data had been used on an app-by-app basis (and probably also increase the granularity of Google spy-ware), so I have to imagine that it is possible to somehow figure that out. But this is sort of low-level stuff - not sure if there is a root app that will do this for you.
You sort of need some combination of "lsof" and "tcpdump". Maybe a tcpdump that is socket-tag aware. (I recently built an ARM version of tcpdump, but I haven't spent much time with it - don't know if that capability is in there.). In this scenario you would run a command-line tool via adb with the screen locked. Or maybe there is a way to dump android's "per-app data usage monitor" rapidly - review of time-stamped data might show you who the villain app is.
Are you sure it's not just the browser? (e.g. if you kill all tabs in you browser, does it still happen?)
Use "Norton Spot". Great app that tells you who is doing what.

Some of the amazing features of Honor 7 which will secure your smartphone:

• Secure locking of your smartphone
• Hide your personal data when sharing your mobile with your friends, by enabling guest log in option to your mobile
• Honor 7 back cover is well designed with metallic surface body. The surface is with salient point design, wear-resistant, anti-skidding, dust-proof, anti-fingerprint and easy to clean. Protects your phone against scratches, dust, dirt and other minor damages in daily use.
• The Honor 7's fingerprint sensor also has something in store even for fingers that have not been enrolled. For example, a long tap can send you back home, sliding down will also slide down the notification panel, while sliding up brings up recent apps. This is definitely more than what more common sensors allow and is a great way to reuse that small space.
Interesting tips...thanks.
Also individual apps can be locked and protected. I've got mine set up with the fingerprint unlock for sensitive apps. Works great!
On previous devices I had to use a third party app from the play store and a password to unlock each app. Now it is so quick and easy.
and somebody starts a new thread / topic just to inform about it??

Thanks, I didn't know that, and used finger print locking, however there are a few bugs with the guest account
1.if using nova launcher, if the app is locked, the desktop shortcut will disappear permanently (administration account won't solve it, but it can still be accessed through the launcher)
2.setting can still be accessed, which is not great for guest
But there is no Open Mode / Secure Mode option available, like some android ROMs have and I think stock Google also has. It is good when your official really needs to be separate from personal work

How to Disable the Security App

I purchased an app to track my sons usage and location (he's 11). It has a cool geo fencing option on it as
Do you know how to disable the security app. The developer emailed back saying i need to take it into a Samsung store to have them disable it. Which is over an hour drive away, so I thought I would ask here.
Thank you!
Your poor son lol. And what do you mean "security" app?
Security app on phone which provides protection. Comes baked into Android. I think it may be the smart manager device security rebranded from Android 6.0 but it's no longer visible in 7.0 in the applications manager. It blocks some 3rd party apps sideloaded from running if it decides it is non trustworthy or acting like a virus.

bypass android secure startup possible?

My phone was stolen by hobos. I'm trying to see if there's a way to bypass the android secure startup. I was hoping these crackheads would take it somewhere to get a new rom for a different provider put on it and they wouldn't be able to and that would make me feel better. I've done some googling on it but I couldn't find anything clear on it.
What? So some people stole your phone, and secure startup is enabled, and you can't get in? Hmm. Sounds like if it's YOUR phone, you would know the pass code and there's no issue. I don't understand how anything else in your post is relevant. If you have someone else's phone and your trying to ask XDA to help you break into it, sorry but no can do. And secure startup is part of the new encryption features starting with Android 6.0, so there's not just a simple fix for getting around it. It's designed to keep thieves and hackers from gaining access to someone else's phone when rebooted. If you want to take a crack at military-grade encryption with some hex editor and hours and hours of coding, be my guest.
Ex gf changed pin for secure startup. Any way I can bypass it.
question:
we have many nexus 5x and pixel phones in my company. before we had the option to disable the "secure startup" in settings. but now that option is gone on all our phones, our phones have oreo 8.1.0 and the security patch level March 5, 2018.
the problem is that many users forget their password because they like to use their fingerprint to unlock their phones. if for some reason they have to restart their phone, they do not remember it, and after 20 attempts the phone gets wiped.
any idea on how to disable this feature?
I'm so interesting too if a tips exist to bypass secure startup, without wipe

Just go to Settings>Lockscreen and security>screenlock type>change to swipe, should remove password.
