[case mod] Unlock full potential of 20.7 camera - Xperia Z2 General

Hello there ,
I recently replaced my Z2 back cover and I also decided to clean my back camera lens but ended up realising that is a cheap plastic that will never be 100% clear and photos quality were much higher without it .
I couldn't leave the phone without camera lens because it will fill with dust in short time and camera's internal lens can get damaged too .
So I decided to buy a iPhone 6 Plus camera lens because I've read on internet is made from sapphire that is very scratch resistant , and placed it instead original lens . Of course iPhone's lens are a bit smaller but they can fit very easy . All you have to do is pop out the original lens from the internal part of back cover and I recommend to not heat the lens because this way the double-adhesive band will peel of the lens and stay on cover .Then place the iPhone 6 Plus lens and center it .

Sorry I didn't photo same object before and after , I didn't think I will share my mod .
Now photos are definately much clearer than before .

The hardest part is taking off the back cover , wich is kinda easy if you have a hair drier and a suction cup .

you need lens from iPhone 6 PLUS , because normal 6 is too small
Advice : try to find lens from broken/dead iphones , because if you buy new lens they are mostly chinesse replica and I doubt they are sapphire .

why are Sony Using plastic camera Lenses on their Premium Smartphones? not to mention its only 16gb internally? we buy xperia phones for their camera.. i remember My Sony Ericsson K800i has a camera lenns Cover to protect it from scratches

I don't understand, i see very much Xperia using plastic camera. Why? Maybe, Sony want this it.

[MOD] Hardware modding, [Grey Chrome]

I read some where before that you can brush the chrome on the Galaxy S to reveal black plastic underneath it, has anyone tried this? I would love a Galaxy S with a full black front.
Any thoughts?
I heard it looks quite bad when you brush the chrome off, im sure I saw it on a utube video but if u can find any decent pics/videos of it then it might be worth a try, im sure it would look nice if it was just black
I did it. The plastic under the chrome is not black, it's grey.

To get it to look like this, after sanding off the chrome with fine sandpaper, I then rubbed oil into the bare plastic to give it a shine.

Eg: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Samsung-Galax...s=63&clkid=8314748327216415236#ht_3561wt_1119

The blury parts are just some random fingerprints!
Sandpapers that were used:
1. P220 Untill whole surface is matte.
2. P600 Untill whole surface is matte.
3. P2500 (This one i used a "wet sandpaper") Untill whole surface done and no other deeper scratches from the lower papers.
4. After sandpapering a matte nice surface you use a polish liquid like "Autosol" or as meantioned in the thread "Belgum Alu".
Those are used to polishing the metal to get a "chromed" surface. This is easiest done by using a handdrill having a polish towel.
If not having a handdrill with this set, just use cotton or some else soft material to polish it. Apply and rubb!
Voila!
Stumpzy9 took of is shell and shared his experience with us, thanks!
stumpyz9 said:
Ok so if you want to take off the back for chroming purposes or what ever you will need 2 things - 1. A torx t5 screwdriver. I got mine for $4 at Sears. 2. A medium guitar pick.
Ok first, take off the 2 covers and take out the battery, similar card, etc.
Next take the guitar pick and use it to pry up the GPS cover. Take note of the screw in the corner that was hidden under the cover.
Now use the t5 to remove all of the diver screwed around the edge of the phone , there should be 4. Now take out the screw that was hidden by the Gps cover.
You can now remove the body CAREFULLY!!!!
If looking at it from the front make sure you push up and to the left so you don't break a volume button like I did lol.
Now that the back is off, remove the power button, camera lens, speaker grills, and the volume button which is held in by a piece of rubber.
Youre now done. Make sure you don't loose anything and just follow the guide backwards to replace. The pic below shows the spots where all the screws are.

[I9000][I9000B][MOD] Camera Glass (replace scratched one)

[IM NOT RESPONSABLE BOUT PROBLEMS OR DAMAGES IN YOUR DEVICE USING THIS PROCEDURES!]
Im a photo enthusiast and i take a lot of care about my Nikon camera and its lenses to ensure its exelent quality and functionality. With my SGS I9000B isn't different!
I saw some dust inside my lenses and decided to clean it up because it interfere directly on the image quality.

In the cleaning process i scratched my SGS lenses from inside! (yes, using twizzers+loose cotton). Was a bad idea.
Thinking bout a replacement of entire housing, didnt find it at eBay because I9000B has a Digital TV antenna and a hole for it. Its a special housing.
Decided then to buy another international housing to take only the lenses, but no money at my paypal account :-(.
Without money, finally decided to take apart my dead Nokia N95-1 and use its CarlZeiss Vario Tessar lenses!!!!!
After opening the SGS again, take that steel frame that protects and decorates the camera lens was a boring process. Three bent fins through the housing, which are hidden by a plastic cover:
After removing this frame, I saw the lens is very well glued to the plastic. Which requires some work with tweezers to avoid damaging the substrate that has outline (it was used as a guide to the size of the new lens).
After that, I put a lens on the other (the N95 but is wider, same thickness) and made the cuts using a sharp scissors.
So now just put everything in place, clean the lens again, polishing and close the device.
Not intend to leave this lens for a long time. Only until i can buy the official Samsung (taken from a new housing).
This Nokia does not have enough glue to adhere to the plastic housing. This little space between the lens and the plastic inferfere directly in autofocus and the inhibition of reflexes = photo as ****!
The results:
Photo taken with SGS I9000B with my new lenses:
Hope this helps people that as me didnt found anything bout Samsung Galaxy I9000/I9000B camera glasses/lenses replace.

Yes. Like all hardware mods in PCs, Game consoles, notebook systems or IT generally, some electronic/engineer knowledge and creativity are very appreciated.
Or, assume all the risks trying "blindly" the procedures(for me, the best way to learn something by yourself).
Great info, thanks!
Does anybody have any idea weather there is a way of polishing that lens? My phone is already a year and a half old and the picture quality is really really bad, since I was not taking care and had my phone in pocket with keys and everything all the time
I was thinking of some method like used for polishing front lights on cars. Do you think it would work?
Never never try the polishing! I've tried today but i fu**ed the lens and the photos was blurred. But i had an "old" nokia 5610, changed the lens and now the photos are too much better, almost like new!
where to buy a camera glass.
i have been using this phone for a long time and now a few days back during a trip i got some scratched on the camera glass at the back and now i am unable to have any good picture.
so can someone tell me how can i replace this one with a newer or where i can buy this size camera glass.

You can buy @ ebay a full housing kit (which comes with brand new OEM samsung lenses) or just a back plate.

Camera lens simple mod to get better image quality and focus- Enjoy!(sample img inc!)

Hi all,
I have the xpreria ray, and I hate what SE don to us regarding the image quality(look at our camera in iCrap 4s)
so I was looking how to improve the quality.
1) to solve the compression issue Use CameraPro-works!
2) do this simple mod to the camera lens- just make small hole to be bigger slightly bigger then camera lens.

I found out that the big glass(?) cover of the camera reflects the lights and make the sensor to shoot low contrast photos(landscape) and makes the auto focus not accurate.

About which hole are you talking about ??
Looks like cutting a hole in the lens cover? Probably not a good idea
no no, no cuting the lens!
Just take black Scotch tape and make small hole (little bigger then the camera lens to not get black frame in photos) and place it on the camera lens.
Its no hard mod to the camera! no risk or damage!
here the images to show what u need:
this is my camera (same on all xperia)
I took Scotch tape and made small hole
the black ring is extra, not must- i took it from cd player (the ring that stopes gear parts to come off)
and i just placed it on my camera lens (under the back cover) - U need to center it corectlly to not get black borders on edges.
no risk no cutting- u can always take it off! this is what u see on my first photo
Oh I see, reduces glare then?
Sent from my LT18i using xda premium
yes, and better focus, contrast and WB.
try it yourself and say what u think- 1 minute to do it.
I don't really know what's a "scotch tape" or where to get one

U can use regular pen metal head to make the hole - it has good diameter

srry i cant, but here the simple steps u need to do.
1) take your phone's back cover:
2)take small peace off duct tape (black recommended) and make small hole, its should be at size of the pens tip
3)place the tape on the lens cover- center it carefully avoiding black edges on photos
4) put back the back cover and you are done!
It's very simple, now i understand everything
I don't really know what kind of paper is this.. but very nice!
The tape my friend is talking about is often called electrical tape or insulation tape. Very cheap to buy can get it from almost every electrical store

So how can i take off the covered tape if I want to remove it?
Will the tape leave scar on the glass of the camera?

Yep, I Know if I change camera absolutely add z1 firmware library..
what makes you think the camera lib files will work on z firmware? If it was that easy surely a lot of people would do that?
You're Crazy
Dude, Its nowhere near possible I think, smartphones are very tightly integrated, is it just me or the size of the lens looks a bit bigger? If this is so then it wouldn't be possible.
You can ask monx or krappabel as they ported z1 camera to our z.

You mean the camera app, that is something completely different.
If you want to built CM11 (or another open source ROM like PA, Omni etc.) with Z1 camera libraries you could probably succeed. Try to built and boot one Rom with the Z1 camera libs just to see if the CSI interface of the SOC is similar enough, if this works I would rate you chances good (read as in I would guess 40%) that it will work. You could get a more educated guess from the guys of the FXP, I think, though they might be more pessimistic as they might not be fans of those kind of tinkering.
With original Sony firmware I would think that it is way harder to accomplish.

They ported the apps and not the HAL/framework. They most likely can't help you. Read my previous post.
The camera on Z1 have it's own firmware and a lot of other things related to the kernel.
You'll have a enormous work here,for sure.
Sent from my Odin!
It would be awesome if it worked since I also need to change my camera due to dead pixelz.
I think it would be hard tho, even if you asked monx or any other dev. Because they aren't in the same situation as you are. Of course they can give you some support, but it's still limited compared to if they did it themselves.
this will never work
1) you need to modified camlib
2) also you need to modified the internal system core -> kernel etc
3) also it will screw your phone badly and all you will have is a device which does nothing
take my advise just get a Z1 if you have the money if not just stay on Z it is not a bad phone...
